And I forgot to mention the air date! Looks like part one of the season finale will be on April 21st, according to this little snippet.
Have the actual synopsis after the break in text form!
Thanks to Alex for the image!
"Not everything is rainbows and gumdrops in this two-part special that finds unicorn Twilight Sparkle digging up a wedding shocker as her brother Shining Armor prepares to get hitched. -MWB"
Twilight Sparkle has a brother?! Madness!
Someone pointed this out in the comments, his mark is pretty much the same as Twilight's, with a shield.

Duh FUCK?! Shining Armor is Twilight's BROTHER?!?!?!?!
ReplyDelete...MORE FAMILY MEMBERS! :D
But I do have my doubts about the legitimacy of this...
HOLY ACTUALY FLYING FUCK!!!!!! O_O
ReplyDeleteis this is not a hoax, this could break a HUGE amount of fanfiction XD
@anzul
ReplyDeleteWhy do people keep saying that?
Maybe I just read the wrong fics, but I can't really recall that many where Twi's family life is all that important a factor. Her parents occasionally show up, and some authors like to make Trixie her lost/estranged sister, but I've really seen very little that is dependent upon Twilight being an only child.
The sudden appearance of Rarity's parents recked more fanon than this.
what do you ean he has no similarities? he's white, like their mom, and his mane is blue, like their dads. if anything, I'd say he's MORE similar to his parents than twilight is. I for one, can see this being pretty interesting. I don't know why it's such a WTF to know that she has a brother.
ReplyDeleteOMGOMGOMG

ReplyDeleteThis is gonna sound a little egotistical, but I saw it coming. :3

ReplyDeleteWait... Why would we get the synopsis for episodes 25&26 before we get the synopsis for episode 24?
ReplyDeleteYep...as usual, the mantra of the members of the community that freak out so easily:
ReplyDelete"If I can't find a reason to be butthurt,
I'll MAKE a reason to be butthurt."
Yeah grab the pitchforks and torches. Again.
Can't believe some people here care more about their fanon characterizations and fanfiction than the possible opportunity for a character to have a expanded backstory. When in some of those fanfics, they tend to be over the top when it comes to creating a "backstory" for the character (looking at you grimdark origin fics.) More canon means more fic fodder anyway.
ReplyDeleteI for one welcome the idea of Shining Armor possibly being Twilight's brother. It would make for some interesting interactions.
@Pegadonkey
ReplyDeleteI can so see that. Some people to chill and learn to not overreact.
WOW. just WOW.
ReplyDelete@Mason
ReplyDelete>fanon people rage about twilight having a brother
-*What* ''fanon rage'' about twilight having a brother...?
There's virtually NO story whatsoever, that feature Twilight with a sibling, other than the occasional (and usually interesting) Trixie story.
Seriously, you're seeing/projecting things...
I'm so excited for this to be real!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, everypony is overreacting of something that they haven't seen yet. =/
ReplyDeleteJust like when Discord was leaked, everypony was like "WTF!?" and now, they treat Discord as the most awesome villain ever. =O
I call that Twilight from the future in the next episode will tell Twilight of the present about the wedding! °3°
Kinda jarring that main heroine's brother just drops into the story outta nowhere. It's like "Hai gurls, I never told you I have a shitload of siblings? My bad."
ReplyDeleteMaybe they'll introduce him better. I hope. The whole derailed wedding scenario is a potential win. Let's see if they can pull another Best Night Ever.
@Strange Phantasm *And then the wedding happens* And now, the wedding singers! *a big glass fishbowl is rolled in* Shoo-bee-doo, shoo-shoo-bee-doo!
ReplyDelete*mass hysteria occurs in the brony fandom! Discord's powers grow exponentially and he takes over!*
Applejack's big brother is Big mac
ReplyDeletenow Twilight's big brother is Shining Armor! lol
@Ultimate Hoofs It turns out that Princess Cadence is a ponmunculus! And she's trying to steal magic to create a Philosopher's Stone! And Twilight messes up a spell and loses a foreleg and back leg and must use automail to compensate! And her brother's soul ends up in a suit of shining armor in a feat of incredible dramatic irony!
ReplyDeleteYep, that's how it's all goin' down.
Now I hope this is true, because suddenly my put-off crossover with "Full Metal Alchemist" will work REALLY well with this new development! Hell, it'll fit PERFECT with the details I just half-jokingly mentioned above!
NO! Hasbro please no! Just... no.

ReplyDelete@WGIJ
ReplyDeleteWould "Kuchen" in German be "cake" though? =\
it shouldn't be so surprising. I mean, Shining Armors color scheme is even more similar to their parents than twilight. if anything, it's more of a WTF when you think about how Twilight could possibly be related to her parents because of her weird color scheme. her mane matches her mom, but that's about it.
ReplyDelete...Whaaaat. This can't be for real. They can't be seriously just giving Twilight Sparkle a brother at the very end of season 2 after no mention of him whatsoever. Either the staff have decided to make another risky sudden-plot-decision (adding a third alicorn was bad enough), or this is just a typo in this synopsis. Maybe they meant to write cousin instead of brother. I dunno, maybe they did intend it and maybe they will find a way to make suddenly giving Twilight a brother and adding a third alicorn work out.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how to feel about this. Twilight having a brother utterly blindsided me, to be honest.
ReplyDeleteSo far me INTERNET e-RAGE had been entirely focused on Cadence, Shining Armor had been more or less an afterthought.

ReplyDeleteseems to be fake...
OMG Hasboro is shoehorning girly stuff into My Little Pony.
ReplyDeleteBoo, I say. Boo. :')
Well this is a bit of a surprise.
ReplyDelete@darkconsoles
ReplyDeleteOr that too! Could be entirely fabricated. I'm not closed off to the idea.
I hoped a few hours would calm down the community, but it seems like it will take more...
ReplyDeleteSeriously, who cares? 'Oh, hi, I'm Twilight's brother', so what? People keep saying they want Scootaloo to have new family members, I truly expect massive excitement should a synopsis even suggest she's going to have a background. Nobody went crazy when Rarity's parents popped out of nowhere in Sisterhooves Social, either. Why such panic? Geez...
Don't you have faith in the show producers? We know for a fact Cadance/Cadence was upgraded to Alicorn status, likely required to make up for the Celestia toy being white, and therefore requiring a new pink princess since these apparently sell so well. So what? So freaking what? The show is loved so much for a reason, and it's because it's damn good! Have faith it'll keep being good, for Khorne's sake!
One of the best ways to ruin your enjoyment of something is to blow your expectations out of proportions and be disappointed at a less-than-perfect result, but the opposite is also true. If you expect something to fail, anything even remotely out of the ordinary will be seen as a total disaster, and you'll be disappointed, self-fulfilled prophecy style.
Calm the heck down and pony on, that is all.
Lots of complaining going on. I can't believe it. Do you people really latch on to your fanon like it was your life? So what if Twilight has a brother that was never mentioned till now? We never knew about Rarity's parents until Sisterhooves Social does that she has no parents? We didn't know Sweetie Belle was Rarity's sister until Stare Master, does that mean Rarity's an only child? We didn't know Twilight had parents until Cutie Mark Chronicles, does that mean Celestia adopted her? Then when those happened you were all fine with it.
ReplyDeleteBut when Twilight's possible brother who was never mentioned before since there was no need to comes in the same fashion as other relatives you all scream "Boycott!", "OC Stu!", "My fanon is ruined!", "This ruins my completely made-up super grimdark origin fanfic!", and so on and so on.
I remember hearing that most of us wanted to see more of the Mane 6's family, then when somehting comes up that doesn't fit your oh-so high standars, you complain that it isn't the way you wanted. I can't believe I'm saying this but I see why some haters and outsiders think bronies are just a bunch of manchildren. Whining when something doesn't go your way, does that sound like a grown man/woman?
Why don't you all just wait and see what happens? After all the staff has done great this season (I don't what anyone says, I like Season 2 as much as I love Season 1) and have been nothing but supportive of this fandom, so let's not be like most fandoms and act like ungrateful spoiled brats.
@Sothalic
ReplyDeleteWatch. If they ever introduce Scootaloo's parents, expect some people who have it in their fanon that Scootaloo's an orphan to complain how it ruins a fanfic that staff members probably don't know about or are discouraged from reading because of copyright issues.

Well, I figured that this whole wedding business was a serious point where the show could jump the shark, especially after Lauren said Cadence was not an Alicorn when she worked on the episode.
ReplyDeleteThis just makes it even more likely for the shark jumping to occur. I remain cautiously pessimistic, but would like to be pleasantly surprised.
Also, there is some evidence pointing to this being fake anyway.
@Fork.Job: You serious? There's a good amount of comments freaking out about this. Just because it isn't the size of the Derpy freakout doesn't mean it isn't a freakout.
ReplyDeletewow?
ReplyDeleteI don't see the problem with him being her brother- It's not like it's going to be a plot twist or anything- and will almost certainly be explained in advance, maybe even in an earlier episode. And ponies keeping family members to themselves is hardly new- Pinkie Pie has only mentioned her sisters once in a vague background story.
ReplyDeleteThis WOULD completely support a bridesmaids toy line series... Which I remember hearing about somewhere!
ReplyDeleteOh my fuck I've now hit rock bottom in my brony life
ReplyDeleteShining Armor = sparkles?
ReplyDeleteDid people here throw a fit when Rarity's parents were shown to be alive after so long too?
ReplyDeleteEspecially Inspira and Yu Kigono.
Oooh, two days before my birthday is the air date!
ReplyDeleteBest. Advanced. Birthday. Gift. EVER.
Sweetie Belle is a terrible character.
ReplyDeleteRarity didn't mention having a sister until later in the series.
She is contrived. Like Shining Armor.
Also, Rainbow and Fluttershy should never have their family shown because of them not being shown before. Elaboration is always.
Well come to think about it, it *COULD* be possible Shining Armor is Twilight's brother. Remember the view of Twi's parents from the Cutie Mark Chronicles? Twi's mother has a white coat and Twil's dad has a blue mane so genetics is in favor of Shining Armor as well as his cutie mark having the star Twilight symbol on it.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem I see here would be that those of us who try to restrain our toy collecting to the mane cast will feel obligated to go purchase Shining Armor dollies if he is indeed Twi's blood relative. It could get expensive. :)
ReplyDeleteThey never even explained or hinted to her having a BROTHER!!! What the buck? I can't wait!!! :D
ReplyDeleteThey never hinted or mention Twilight Sparkle having a BROTHER!!! I can't wait, this is going to be so bucking awesome!!! :D
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I hadn't checked in on ponies for a week or so... and this happened. Not sure what to make of it though.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to this as being a great end to a great season. Don't expect the wedding to go as planned ala Grand Galloping Gala in such a way that something is going to go wrong or Cadence freaks out in a nod to Bridesmaids and the girls have to search all over for her.
ReplyDeleteAlso theto all you Sweetie haters the phrase you meant to say was "Sweetie Belle is great".
You know... I've noticed something recently...
ReplyDeleteIn season 1, there was a Grand Gala ticket episode, eventually leading to the season finale WITH the Grand Gala...
In this case, Discord made the ponies go all... Discordish, and we have seen a few of the Ponies, namely Twilight and Fluttershy, take a resurgence back to those times...
Could this possibly have to do with the finale, i wonder?
@joetraincool
ReplyDeleteActually, if you bothered looking at him and comparing him to their parents: Her father's blue hair, her mother's white body.
Not to mention: Twilight Sparkle doesn't look much like her parents at all.
YES, knew it! As soon as I saw that post, I remembered the picture of him with Cadence!
ReplyDeleteMy god...
ReplyDeleteTwilight's brother is a Canadian Mounted Police?!
ReplyDeleteBrother, really? I was expecting Discord to return in the finale, since there was a lot of chaos this season. :(
ReplyDelete@joetraincool I know. He looks more like Vinyl Scratch then Twilight
ReplyDeleteI personally think that Shining's hair looks kinda like Twilight's, were it not so evenly cut and blue instead of purple.
ReplyDeleteWHAT?! If they're telling us about a brother now, then they should've waited for season 3!
ReplyDeleteShining Armor, who was Twilight Sparkles Brother, was one day in a library, writing on a scroll. When he got a letter from his sister that said...
ReplyDeletePROBLEMS AND MONSTERS WERE ATTACKING HER PLACE!
(at first, exercises usual "no-spoilers" preference)
ReplyDelete(holds out for a few days)
(finally gives up and decides to spoil self since it might help the writing process re: Twilight)
...oh. Wait, that's it?
Well, that was anticlimactic. ^^; I'm actually curious to see how this turns out!
This will suck harder than interstellar vacuum.
ReplyDeleteHasbro cares not for your ridiculous interest in their toy marketing show. Go away Bronies, with your continuity and sense and complex ideas about Hasbro's intellectual property. You are not the target demographic.
If it sells toys to little girls, then Twilight can have a brother out of nowhere, and there can be alicorns everywhere, all over the place. Alicorns are popular in the test group.
And remember, it's JUST A CARTOOOON! So don't you dare get upset or care or anything. Something as worthless as a CARTOON is just there to be laughed at and used like a two-dollar whore. Cartoons, after all are stupid, and you are stupid for caring.
As Hasbro says "Fuck y'all!"
Happy day.
WHAAAAAAAAT! A BROTHER! Awesome.
ReplyDeleteShining Armor looks like an even mix of his parents: mother's coat and father's mane.
ReplyDeleteRemember the last time Hasbro asked them to put their toys into the show? How intrusive was the train or the hot air balloon? Did the schoolhouse seem like a set to you? Aren't their houses more awesome than obvious toys?
I'm betting it was the writing team's decision to do a two-part season finale around this.
You guys remember the episode about making dresses and the episode about going to a ball? This one is about a wedding. Personally, I can't wait to see what they do with this.
http://profile.typepad.com/username
ReplyDeletethis airs 1 day after KONY 2012 you will watch mlp with posters around your neighborhood
ReplyDeleteOh my! First the Warrior Cats spoilers saying that Scourge was Firestar's half brother. Then a lost SEGA spoiler as Alfred from TMOAH is Sonic's lost cousin and brother. Now this? The fun has been trippled! :D
ReplyDeleteAre people seriously getting upset that Twilight has a brother? Really guys?
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, nobody knew Sweetie Belle was Rarity's sister until what ? Episode 17 ?
ReplyDeleteIt sort of bugs me that he doesn't look anything like Twilight (even though his dad is blue and mom is white, so it does sort of work).
ReplyDeleteStill bothers me. Otherwise, I'll wait and see what happens. Not a fan of wedding episodes, but after 'How I Met Your Mother' did theirs, I have some faith. :)
Maybe the "wedding shocker" is that Shining Armor isn't her brother at all! *dramatic chord*
ReplyDelete...
If that turns out to be true by some bizzare chance, I promise to whack myself about the head with my keyboard for saying it...
fucking oath.
ReplyDeleteThis is fake no one freak out i saw the episode http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_qye9KApNE there and it isn't here brother no one gets marryed, its a future twilight
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is one of those "I didn't mention my older sibling because you would all love him more than me" situations. I mean, we all know Twilight was an introverted, friendless little filly. Maybe this is why: because she has a popular, talented, and likable brother.
ReplyDeleteIf this is a troll.. I swear..
ReplyDeleteFrankly I feel like "Princess Cadence" and this "brother of Twilight" is a giant plot hole. There is nothing at all that would ever logically lead to that. If Twilight had a brother, I don't see why we wouldn't have at least heard him mentioned once or twice and I don't see where in Equestria another alicorn could have simply popped out of. Theoretically, any new Alicorns would have to come from the present Alicorns, both of whom are female. Reproductive likelihoods aside for plot... Unless Alicorns are somehow less rare than thought? I frankly don't even understand the real ties between Hearth's warming eve and the stories of the princess' a thousand years ago and their roles raising the sun and moon tie together. How is that there were two princesses' and now there could be three? Twilight isn't royalty, so far as we're told (her being Princess Celestia's student wouldn't be as all important then), so why would her "brother" be marrying some hitherto unknown other princess of Equestria? We aren't even told that much about Twilight's background I call all these seeming plot holes bad writing, or orders from on high that should never happen. Still I guess we can only wait to see how this pans out. If this were a book, people would be going WTF and insisting that the author explain.
ReplyDeleteThis is starting to sound more and more like a bad fanfic.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI must say I was skeptical of the whole "hey there, here is another alicorn, cause lol" thing which first appeared, because it smelled like executive meddling (and Faust's comments only seem to reinforce that) and quite frankly seems a bit odd all things considered, because the show has more or less made sure things are logically plausible from the previous events. In other words, things made sense. I like the example with Sweetie Belle because it shows exactly how it makes sense: she is introduced on the very end of the episode, and then when she next appears she is given a relationship to the main six, no lull or distance from the fact that, hey, this is a quite important character in her life. Imagine for a second that that hadn't been mentioned until The Cutie Mark Chronicles, but nothing else had been changed. What about until Sisterhooves Social? I know I would have said "well, that's convenient."
ReplyDeleteNow, Twilight has a brother who hasn't appeared anywhere before (take him to the Sun Celebration when Twilight was a girl? Naw, he maybe was traveling... or maybe we just don't like him... or maybe he is an alien... who knows?), no mention of this fact before, despite multiple visits to Canterlot (five? six?) where a family visit would make sense to introduce the guy who apparently is marrying a goddess (more on that later), yet now, he will appear on the last episode, which means he will be: introduced, his baseline established, then developed, and then brought to closure, all in a single episode. Of course, one could argue the same thing is done with multiple other characters, but the difference is the distance between the main characters of the story and them. Donkey's behavior can easily be ignored for future episodes, he is not related to anyone and he doesn't have a serious ability to affect anyone in particular: making him be a recurring character will be odd and forced. Same for Gilda, Trixie, etc., all of which weren't all that developed anyway, and all sorts of other things. The rest? Background characters in the most part, with no major action and filial connection other than support crew, they weren't even the main part of the story (Uncle and Aunt Orange come to mind, who only serve to prevent Applejack from becoming a hobo).
This? This is different. This a character who has to interact by tour de force with the main cast quite a lot, and if he is important enough to be marrying Princess Cadence (oh, my insides) one would guess he would be talked about just about every single time someone mentions anything even related to the Sparkles. Introducing him like this, one a single episode, for the hell of it, it's akin to having Gandalf appear at the very end of the lord of the rings, with an army of gun welding wizards, riding hawks who shoot metal feathers.
So no, people should not freak out, really, but I can only raise an eyebrow and hope to god they know what they are doing, or everyone and their mothers will go and say "wait, what?"
@One Radical Dude
ReplyDeletethey could have even gone so far as to print it themselves and insert it into a TV guide
i've known about this for a while now.
ReplyDeleteif you go to the MLP:FIM page of Wiki and look at the list of episodes, go allll the way to the bottom you'll see the same summary.
i learned this trick when i was scanning the Adventure Time episode listing when season 2 had started.
If Shining Armor is Twilight's brother, and he's marrying a princess, Twilight'll be a duchess...Duchess Twilight Sparkle of Canterlot xD I have a feeling Rarity will be a little jelly.
ReplyDelete@KBNinja Wow...
ReplyDelete
