Good afternoon, everypony. I'm here to talk to you about something near and dear to my heart: little Derpy Hooves. This young mare needs love, hugs, and 3 square muffins a day to stay healthy, but she can't do it alone. She needs your help. There's some rumbling and shaking going on, and the bottom line is that our favorite mailmare is in trouble. Here, have a better petition than the one that was up before.

Show her how much you care by purchasing any one of the many awesome, stylish, and high quality shirts from We Love Fine. Act quickly. Act today! This may be your very last chance to score yourself a Derpy shirt, so please. Don't wait.

Dollars speak louder than words. So show Derpy how much we love her, and keep her smiling for all of us.

Quick Edit: Derpy has been renamed on Welovefine to Ditzy and Simply "pony cutie mark".

    1. I will definitely support our dear Derpy.

    2. I fail to see WHY she wouldn't be called Derpy?

      ReplyDelete
    3. Square muffins? That doesn't seem physically possible.

      ReplyDelete
    4. Why are you being so vague? Is Hasbro considering changing the name or getting rid of Derpy altogether or something?

      ReplyDelete
    5. I acctually bought a shirt yesterday...

      ReplyDelete
    6. Quick question to any Europeans who have ordered from WLF in the past; how long did they take to arrive and were there any additional shipping fees beyond what it says on the website?

I've asked before in other places but never got a response :P

      ReplyDelete
    7. @The Invincible

The Japanese have square watermelons, so maybe the muffins are made in a similar way.

      ReplyDelete
    8. Also, I very much doubt Derpy will get such a significant scene or even be adressed by name in the show again, so I think a petition to change the name at all is pointless and stupid.

      ReplyDelete
    9. *hugs Derpy*
We will not let the hater bronies take her away from us!

      ReplyDelete
    10. Number of votes rose by 54 (from 192 to 246) by the time I signed.

      Go, Derpy!!!

      ReplyDelete
    11. never! haha i signed the other one

      ReplyDelete
    12. @Marcoooootje1

"Haters" cannot be Bronies, since Bronies love and tolerate.

      ReplyDelete
    13. Hmm. Any thoughts, guys? Is Hasbro seriously considering axing the "Derpy" name?

      ReplyDelete
    14. @Rasrap Smurf

I ordered a shirt from them January 3rd, they shipped it on Thursday 19th, and it arrived today.

      ReplyDelete
    15. what is this? a welovefine commercial?

      ReplyDelete
    16. Check it: Derpy herself signed it.

      ReplyDelete
    17. I didn't even read any of this. Once I saw that Derpy needed my help, I signed right away. God speed Derpy, God speed.

      ReplyDelete
    18. @CityFlyer502

I haven't heard anything about it. This may be a knee jerk reaction against the few people who claimed that Depry was offensive in some way.

      ReplyDelete
    19. Oh, and I had to pay an additional £11.51 for shipping and handling.

      ReplyDelete
    20. Signing an online petition to counteract an online petition which wouldn't have made any difference as the toy's been celled Derpy for months now?

      I'll pass.

      ReplyDelete
    21. @MyBoyJ

Derpy, not Depry. I am a blasphemer.

      ReplyDelete
    22. @FamusJamus

I don't think there are any Derpy toys...

      ReplyDelete
    23. this is ridiculous people need to stop being so damn oversensitive about everything

      ReplyDelete
    24. @CityFlyer502
Hasbro is considering this solely on the large amounts of hate mail they've recieved about how 'Mentally deficient people are not derps!' and 'Derpy is slang for retarded!'

Honestly, I think that Tabitha's little voice derp is partially responsible.

      ReplyDelete
    25. Hoo boy, I hate to be a neighsayer, but... (you knew there was a but coming, didn't you?)

While I fully agree with the sentiment of the anti-petition petition, I'm not terribly happy with how the pro-Derpy one is worded. Mainly the part that directly calls out to the other one and says "Just relax and unclench your butthole people, jeese." (Poor Jesse, why is he being singled out?)

Look, Derpy _is_ Derpy, and always shall be that way to me. But if you're trying to convince the Powers That Be that Derpy should stay Derpy, including insulting lines like that, even if they aren't being directed at the people who the petition is going to be sent to, just comes across wrong; it is at best superfluous, and at worst insulting.

Get rid of that last line of the petition, and I'll gladly sign it. Otherwise, while I fully support what the petition is trying to get across, I really don't want my name attached to it.

      ReplyDelete
    26. @Rasrap Smurf
I think it took mine about 2 weeks to be delivered. Can't say for sure, it was two months ago. And, well, there's a high price shipping obviously, but that's still affordable. Anyway, do your things and go just before you pay for it, you'll see the price :p

And for the petition, I can't see why anybody would find this offensive.. Unless they're overmoralized puritans (does that exist ?). There was goofy character in all show for about.. forever. Love & Tolerate anyway ! :D

      ReplyDelete
    27. I refreshed literally 10 seconds after I got on the site, and the signature rate is friggin skyrocketing. No worries here.

      ReplyDelete
    28. Derpy looks adorable in that picture.

I think she should stay named Derpy, had she been not as popular I wouldn't have minded too much. ( Derpy could have always been a nickname)

By now though I think it's stuck, she's become one of our icons and should not be changed.

Here's hoping it gets all the signatures they need after all you don't want to make Derpy sad now...do you?

      ReplyDelete
    29. Vivat Derpy!

And I happen to have an unused giftcard from Christmas worth a hundred dollars. So I might consider one of these shirts.

      ReplyDelete
    30. I'm calling it now: Cash Grab. Then again, Derpy Shirt.

      ReplyDelete
    31. Signed and signed. :) Long live Derpy Hooves!

      ReplyDelete
    32. ...and the petition link is gone.

      ReplyDelete
    33. @Laurence Brown i think he means as in Geez.. not jesse

      ReplyDelete
    34. Derpy in danger!? OH NOES

      ReplyDelete
    35. Is it just me, or is the petition link gone?

      ReplyDelete
    36. the petition wasn't written too well and was a bit immature sounding

      ReplyDelete
    37. I actually just bought the new Derpy shirt Tuesday.

      ReplyDelete
    38. Sad Derpy makes meh sad, consider this motherfucker signed.

      ReplyDelete
    39. Guys here's the link
      http://www.change.org/petitions/hasbro-keep-derpy-named-derpy

      ReplyDelete
    40. Guys, this is actually serious. Exactly why you can read here:
      http://derpyhoovesnews.com/hasbro-pressuring-welovefine-to-remove-derpy-merchandise/

I was on a hiatus from buying pony merch but this is a really big deal.

      ReplyDelete
    41. @Kinrah
I think we just accidentally the entire petition.

Signed before the link vanished. It's a shame that Hasbro would give us this nod to the fandom, and suddenly a bunch of people turn around and bite their heads off for it. Not cool.

      ReplyDelete
    42. Derpy petitions? Take your pick:

      http://www.change.org/petitions#search/derpy

      ReplyDelete
    43. Make up your mind internet!

First Derpy's in trouble, then Seth proclaims that it blew over and everything's fine, now she's in trouble again, this time severe enough to warrant a "support Derpy" post!

What the heck is going on, and also, what is it that everyone is signing, the only link in this post is to WeLoveFine.

And I'm pretty sure we can just forget right now about any more fan inclusion from Hasbro after the stink this made.

      ReplyDelete
    44. I don't understand how Derpy is in trouble. Is there some link I'm overlooking, or something? This all seems a little vague.

      ReplyDelete
    45. I highly doubt that Derpy is "in trouble" in any way. The anti-Derpy petition seems to be the work of trolls or at least people who hate our community.

      ReplyDelete
    46. @MyBoyJ Really? I thought there was... Ah well.

It's still an online petition though. Then have those ever done anything? :P

      ReplyDelete
    47. This has gotten out of hand. I can't believe people are getting this angry over Derpy because *they* defined it to mean something offensive. Derpy never has and never will have anything to do with anypony's mental capabilities.

      Rant over..
      Lurk ended..
      Petition signed..
T-shirt bought.. (it was about time I did anyway)

      ReplyDelete
    48. I'm confused by everything in this article, so I'm just going to ignore it.

      ReplyDelete
    49. NO.
      Derpy's name must not change.
There's nothing wrong with it, it's not offensive, and the people who ARE getting offended are being excessively uptight!
I signed, and so should everyone.

      ReplyDelete
    50. @FamusJamus

At least there are no official Derpy toys. You may have seen custom ones made by fans.

      ReplyDelete
    51. @Zoot101
Yeah, Last Roundup vanishes from iTunes and now this. It looks like they are erasing derpy from existence. Nice job butthurt squadron! I hope it was worth it.

      ReplyDelete
    52. I dont get this, "Dollars speak louder than words" what the hell? what is the point asking to buy a shirt from that particular website?

"derpy is in troube", "This young mare needs love, hugs" ...this is stupid..

      ReplyDelete
    53. Was the link to the petition just removed? I don't see it anymore.

I did sign it by the way.

      ReplyDelete
    54. I lose track of which way the wind is supposedly blowing day to day. So... now there *is* a significant anti-Derpy movement somewhere?

Ah well. I honestly wash my hands of the whole thing. I love Derpy, I loved her appearance. People who are making a big deal out of it are just going to make her go away entirely when it comes to new appearances or speaking lines for her, not get her successfully changed to whatever it is they want.

But at the end of the day, such appearances make up 01% of the show's content. People will still draw Derpy until the end of fandom, and still name her that. She's not going anywhere, regardless of the lack of shout-outs. I suspect any Derpy toys or Derpy products beyond what's already out there wouldn't show up until the property gets licensed for collector merchandise anyway, and I doubt that market would be scared off by some busybodies manufacturing false outrage.

      ReplyDelete
    55. Death to Derpy. I hope Hasbro erases her from the canon. I hope Studio B never puts her in a episode again. All her merch should be burned. She totally sucks, srsly.

      And while I'm at it....

I MUST BE IN QUAHOG, 'CUZ ALL I SEE IS A BUNCH OF HICKS!!!!

      ReplyDelete
    56. Wish I had known about this a couple hours earlier. I already put in a order today for a Fluttershy shirt.

      ReplyDelete
    57. @MyBoyJ Nah, I was thinking of a post on here about somepony's name and thought it was Derpy's.

Knowing me, it was probably a Lyra/Heartstrings blindbag one.

      ReplyDelete
    58. You know, I need to read things more thouroughly, the petitions intentions were good but it was orased rather badly..

      ReplyDelete
    59. Are people actually taking the anti-derpy petition seriously?

It's like 50 signatures. And look at the names of the people signing it.

Yeah, I'm sure Hasbro is gonna take notice when they see that Dicks Dicks et al. are offended.

There's no way the petition has anything to do with this. Either DerpyHooves's source is wrong/lying or Hasbro is preemptively trying to be politically correct.

      ReplyDelete
    60. I just purchased two Derpy shirts. I don't want to see one of my favorite ponies be taken away from us! ( and we may as well call it now, she's one of the first things they did to show that they acknowledge us! She's Iconic to the Brony Community! )

      ReplyDelete
    61. Now, I am totally confused. Is there a movement to get rid of her or what? Is this for real? We named this pony all the way back in Season 1 and now that it's official, people are getting all fired up? If Hasbro does a complete 180 on us because of all of this, I would not be surprised.

      ReplyDelete
    62. So wait what i understand is that they are trying to either change her name or not use her in any episodes because people were offended? what about Ed from ed edd n eddy he was always like that i didnt see the post so somebody please let me know whats going on so i can ne caught up with this

      ReplyDelete
    63. The petition is past 500! Come on guys, we can do it!

      ReplyDelete
    64. I think Ditzy Doo would be an infinitely better name.

Derpy is a nickname. Not a name.

(Repeat the above sentence several thousand times and you'll come to a realization that Derpy is a nickname)

Petitioning for them to keep the name Derpy is pointless as all it could potentially do is have them seal her name permanently as Derpy, giving her fairly low coverage in any potential for future episodes.

Please. Just leave it as a nickname.

      ReplyDelete
    65. @Lupus Albus

I just saw that petition yikes full of hate and rage

      ReplyDelete
    66. We get it, Phoe. You are bored...

    67. The "missing link" as it were:

      ReplyDelete
    68. What if Derpy is completely safe and this is a ploy to get us to all buy Derpy shirts?

      ReplyDelete
    69. http://www.change.org/petitions/hasbro-do-not-change-derpys-name#

I made a differently-worded version, since I noticed people didn't like the wording on the one already posted.

      ReplyDelete
    70. lolwut? Phoe's better with a sale's pitch than Billy Mays' ghost!

Also, Don't worry so much everyponi. You will make Fluttershy cry.

      ReplyDelete
    71. Way ahead of you. I already proudly wear my Derpy shirt around base. "Hand over the muffins. You have 10 seconds to comply."

      ReplyDelete
    72. I'd buy so many of them if they were only like ten bucks each. $25 seems like a bit much.

      ReplyDelete
    73. You fucks are LITERALLY WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS.

      ReplyDelete
    74. Since Change.org is probably the only entity in the world that actually takes it's own petitions seriously, they couldn't ignore this, could they?

      ReplyDelete
    75. I ain't made of lods of emone!

      ReplyDelete
    76. @MachinimistLukeBut why would it only be a nickname? Why can't it be her real name? What's your basis on that? The fandom named the pony way before Ditzy Doo was ever mentioned. She was even adressed to in the show as Derpy. So why assume it's just a nickname?

      ReplyDelete
    77. @Flutterfan

Most likely getting rid of her all together.

To make a long story short, some people weren't happy with how Derpy was portrayed in the show. They ended up sending complaints to Hasbro (and directly to the writer of the episode), and now she is all apologetic for including Derpy, and it sounds like Hasbro is going to 'rectify' the situation.

The correct action here was to be excited simply for the mentioning of Derpy, and celebrate that. They can't make her exactly what we want her to be, because there are quite a number of versions of Derpy. Unfortunately, this is not how things went down.

I get the feeling that this is a situation where the minority is louder than the majority, and they are spoiling this for everybody else in the process.

This is twice now that we've bitten the hands that feed us (Hasbro and the show's team). If this gets too out of hand, they could conceivably cancel the show BECAUSE of us.

Watch the show. Enjoy the show. Discuss the show amongst other bronies. But for the love of God don't ruin this for everybody by going straight to Hasbro with anything. Unless it's praise. I think they'll accept that.

      ReplyDelete
    78. @MachinimistLuke

Christ, really? This is the time to pull this "Dizy is better" shit, when Hasbro appears to be pulling episodes and dumping merchandise?

      ReplyDelete
    79. ...I bet they will go back to the episode and change her name to Ditzy or something. Dash can be a jerk sometimes maybe she was being mean.
That being said if I could find these people that are complaining and punch them in the face I would.

      ReplyDelete
    80. It sure is nice that the angry mails didn't have an effect. Oh wait it did.

I'm not one to use sarcasm often, but when I do I do it for a reason.

      ReplyDelete
    81. HOW DARE YOU!
      MAKING DERPY SAD?!

YOU ARE BAD AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD!

      Derpy <3

      ReplyDelete
    82. Inafter yet more stupid freaken complaining by a bunch of internet idiots about Derpy shit.

Anyway... what's this post about again? lol She's not going anywhere. Some random creeps from online who think they're tough shit aren't going to cause that. So I wouldn't worry. And Derpy is her name. Deal with it already, my goodness. Stop being an immature self-righteous twat and just suck it up already and move on. Jeez.

Anyway, again. I still wish they carried some of the shirts in both men and female sizes. Some shirts I love, but they don't carry them in females.

      ReplyDelete
    83. Can we please have an actual informative post with the explanation of what is going on instead of BUYSTUFF?

      ReplyDelete
    84. @famusjamus do ou remember that whole SOPA thing not a few weeks ago? Do you not remember all the petitions signed ONILINE to get the attention of our congressmen senators and THE FRIGGEN WHITEHOUSE. Online petitions CAN work. There just need to be enough of a response to get the attention of those who make the decisions for us.  Signed the antichange petition bought my shirt and am hoping to Luna that those in charge over at Hasbro can ride through the haters and make the appropriate decision. We as fans need to respect the outcome and let them do what they do best. Making a show that has brought so many peoples across the planet together under a banner of friendship.

      ReplyDelete
    85. alright, since many haven't heard apparently....

"We have a reliable but anonymous source that has confirmed that Hasbro Inc. is currently pressuring WeLoveFine T-Shirts to remove their Derpy related merchandise. We are currently at this time unsure if it is all Derpy related material, or just that which carries the so called “offensive” term on it.

Yes, sadly this is due to the petitions and loud protests of many. Do not spread hatred because of this, it is the human right to have an opinion or a dislike of something, and it is also the human right to be able to protest that which you do not like and petition for its destruction. There was plenty of people who had opinions on the whole Derpy incident, both sides have valid points. But it takes the entire situation to a whole new level when you begin protesting something that appeared on a cartoon. I am sorry if that is insulting to some, but there are more important things in this world that could use that effort and benefit more. But such is life."

      - derpyhoovesnews.com

FWIW, my experience with online political communities (shudder) has taught me to take ANONYMOUSLY SOURCED NEWS OF DOOM with a grain of f'n salt. I'd see this crap all the time. Example: Politico publishes article claiming that "anonymous White House sources" have told them that Obama plans to announce a plan to privatize Social Security in his State of the Union speech. Cue everyone on the left-wing blogosphere FREAKING THE FUCK OUT for half a day before somebody goes "Wait, who's the source again?" and a WH spokesperson confirms that, yes, that Politico is full of shit and Obama isn't crazy enough to commit political shotgun suicide.

So color me skeptical about Derpy's demise. Because I keep hearing about "people protesting Derpy", but I can't find any, y'know, actual evidence of actual people actually protesting it.

      ReplyDelete
    86. I'm thinking of buying a derpy shirt. To be honest, I was worried what the Public reaction to derpy would be. If Hasbro does have to do something I hope that its a statement explaining Derpy's origins amd that no offense is meant.
If Derpy does suddenly dissapear it would have somewhat dark implications. They just make everyone in Equestria who don't look normal dissapear?

      ReplyDelete
    87. Link again if anypony was wondering where it went:
      http://www.change.org/petitions/hasbro-keep-derpy-named-derpy

Let this be a message, both to Hasbro and ponies like Jeese who don't allow us to have nice things. That's why I fully support this petition, if you don't, fine. Stand with me or be crushed under my hooves!

      ReplyDelete
    88. @txgb324

      lol, that petition's hilarious, actually.

If we can't laugh at ourselves sometimes, how else, y'know?

    89. @Shantara

No!now shut up and buy a shirt or derpy will die

      ....

    90. Sorry for the ever-shifting nature of this post, folks. We're really scrambling for the right things to say and do. You'll get more information just as soon as we have it, and that's a Pinkie Promise.

      ReplyDelete
    91. I feel like saying the name "Derpy" is inappropriate because it means "retarded" makes about as much sense as saying "poop" is inappropriate because it means "shit".

      ReplyDelete
    92. @mycutiemarkisagun

Oh wait, I just found real evidence of a anti-derpy movement - a single petition w/ 54 co-signers that totally doesn't seem like a troll attempt nope no siree

Yeah, Hasbro's totally gonna bend to such MASSIVE PUBLIC PRESSURE.

      ReplyDelete
    93. A polite request to ED:

If you have something to report, report it. Don't put up a vaguely-worded post hinting at something that may or may not be the case, forcing people to scroll through the comments in search of whatever it is we're supposed to know.

      ReplyDelete
    94. @Masquerade

"Honestly, I think that Tabitha's little voice derp is partially responsible."

Agreed. As far as I'm concerned, they can rename her and re-voice the scene. I don't want to see the scene removed, it was cute, so if that's what it takes then so be it. I'm not invested into the name "Derpy" or the voice enough to care.

      ReplyDelete
    95. @Phoe That'd be much appreciated. If something is really going on, I want to help out. But after what happened the last time we had a Derpy debate, I really want to see RELIABLE facts before we needlessly go and anger Hasbro. 'Cause that's the last thing I would want to do. They've been so great with us. Don't make them go 180 on us.

      ReplyDelete
    96. Calm down everypony!!

      @Zielmann

Thank you for that. But I'll believe it when Derpy starts not showing up anymore in future episodes. All this anonymous sources and cloak and dagger stuff. Ugh.

And I'm really dissapointed everyone is blaming fellow Bronies for this (which may or may not even be real) Do we have solid evidence that the people who complained were Bronies? It seems like something some oversensitive mom would do.

      ReplyDelete
    97. Thanks for putting up the new petition, Phoe!

And don't worry about the haters on this shifting post, if this is something that could actually be happening, even if it just appears that way and ends up not being a big deal, it's still something we should be doing things about.

Derpy needs to stay, blast it all!

      ReplyDelete
    98. Signed and bought (I wanted a Derpy shirt anyway)

      ReplyDelete
    99. I think maybe the best thing is if everyone agrees to let this die down for now? Let the shirts go if that's what needs to happen. Hasbro will forget about this as long as it doesn't snowball, but this shouldn't turn into a big thing the MLP team has to deal with.

People, if you're grateful for the inclusion of Derpy, as an easter egg or a speaking character or whatever, don't bombard Hasbro or the creators with emails, it just serves to make it a bigger issue than it needs to be.

      ReplyDelete
    100. @mycutiemarkisagun

While I can't give you anything concrete, I honestly can't think of any other reason why the word Derpy would be blanked out, every instance of it, on the voice actress's blog.

(I'd link to it, but I don't want people to go and rush said blog with cries of outrage. It looks obvious to me that she doesn't like having to do so [otherwise, why would she leave the fan letters up with the blanked out name?]. And I wouldn't like to think that I added to the whirlwind of knee-jerk reactions by providing easy, one click access to harassing someone who is just a bystander caught in the middle of all of this.)

      ReplyDelete
    101. @Octavia

Actually, this might be apparently pretty serious, as there's a rumor (from a supposedly reliable source) posted on derpyhoovesnews.net (linked by someone in the comments above) that Hasbro's pressuring We Love Fine into dropping all Derpy merchandise, and the other rumor that seems to be going around is that Hasbro themselves removed The Last Roundup from iTunes because of backlash from people saying the name 'Derpy' is offensive.

      ReplyDelete

    104. Hasbro is used to Transformers fans that hate and complain about everything they do, so I think they know to take complaints with a grain of salt.

I'm not too worried about this situation. Derpy is Derpy whether anyone likes it or not. I just don't see Hasbro doing a massive retcon on her just to please a few people.

Ordered by stuff on the 25th of November. Took almost two months for it to be delivered. Nothing wrong with my order - was actually pleasantly surprised by the quality of the stuff, but I don't think I'll be ordering anything else from them.

For the outrageous shipping prices they charge, two months delivery time and incredibly slow e-mail response to my query as to what's going on... I expected better.

    111. @mcatusf Actually, it was people writing to their Congress people, coupled with how badly SOPA was put together, which stopped it.

Online petitions have never had any effect on any issue whatsoever. I dare someone to prove me otherwise.

      ReplyDelete
    112. I can understand where the people who were offended by Derpy's canonizing are coming from, but honestly I think they are still making a mountain out of a mole hill. The whole issue seems like a bunch of over-reactive PC BS to me.

Would I have preferred her to be named Ditzy Doo instead of Derpy Hooves? Yes, though Rainbow Dash still might have only been using a nickname. Would I have preferred she be presented as only an easily distracted air-headed clutz rather than possible mentally deficient? Yes, though her brief appearance was hardly enough to make such a distinction clear.

All that said, making a big fuss over it now is just plain silly. I for one take it for what it was a generous shoutout to the Brony community.

      Long live the Muffin Queen!

    113. @Octavia

Yeah, agreed. I'm not going to get to worked about it myself (though I would very much like the Derpy shirts to stick around until I have the money to buy one lol), it just seemed you were a little confused by the post is all.

      ReplyDelete
    114. @Zielmann

Reposting something from a while back because it predicted all this and gave a better alternative solution for future Derpy behavior than is provided in the petition:

"I hope they do more with Derpy. The way I see it, they could go two directions with her character, just as the fanon has: lovable oaf, or misunderstood genius with terrible hoof-eye coordination.

Given those choices I hope they go for genius. It's less predictable, puts more common stereotypes on the chopping-block, and makes Doctor Whooves + Derpy as time travelling companions all the more likely.

Besides, The 'lovable oaf' concept is nice, but it’s a tricky direction to go for a budding TV show. Worst case, it would trip over stereotypes like 'Blonde' and 'Mentally handicapped' instead of destroying them. Not sure if want."

See guys? It is possible to reconcile the differences of people who like/dislike Derpy by having Derpy appear in yet another episode, except as a genius or something: this would make a humorously consistent character of Derpy, and simultaneously destroy the stereotypes associated with her.

Haters will ackgnowledge that this depiction of Derpy does more to purge stereotypes from modern society than reinforce them, and people who like Derpy shouldn't mind because:

1: We'll get to see Derpy again
2: We've seen Derpy portrayed that way before in many fanfics, so there's no reason NOT to be used to it.

Overall, it's more constructive, and the only people who lose out are those who prefer the type of Derpy that reinforces the stereotype... Sorry to them.

    120. Hasbro's not going to change the name from Derpy to Ditzy Doo. More likely they will just order that Derpy be removed from the show altogether, even as a background pony.

Anti-Derpy bronies are like those animal rights activists that accidentally released the Rage Virus in 28 Days Later.

In trying to correct a small injustice you've unleashed a greater horror.

    121. Ekhm... I'm sorry but I don't know what's going on here. Is Hasbro going to change the offical name of this clumsy pony back to Ditzy Doo? Where's the source of this info? Is this a protest against this? If yes, why is there a commercial for shirts in the post?

Moreover, who cares? Really, gyus. Derpy Hooves is lovable but still a minor character. You can call her whichever name you like. In the same time Hasbro has the right to pick up whatever damn official name they think is the most appropiate. Geez, let them run their business their way - they have the right to.

And while I doubt that we were ever going to see Derpy in the capacity we saw her in The Last Roundup again anyway, it would be lame if this had an effect on our chances of any more fun shout out in the future. ReplyDelete
    146. Derpy is my favorite pony. Derpy is a symbol of cooperation and goodwill between a production studio and a fanbase at a time when most studios are more concerned with busting their fans chops because drawing fanart violates their precious copyrights. Derpy is similar to a modernized Goofy or Gomer Pile and nobody complains about them! And most of all even if she IS a bit different than most ponies, if you label her "mentally retarded" you have made the biggest derp of your life; Derpy is a perfectly wonderful pony! When I get so worked up about this, I have to remember to chill out so my eyes don't Pinkie Pie out of my skull.

      ReplyDelete
    147. If hasbro and/or studio b want to make the name "derpy hooves" a nickname and cement her as not being retarded, I am completely fine with this.

IF AND ONLY IF they do it by showing it in an episode. We all (at least the vast majority of us) love her how she is, although I doubt anyone would be opposed to further development.

      ReplyDelete
    148. @Ace2401

I'm not sure about it effecting other shout outs in the future. Other shout outs have been received rather well as a whole. This seems to be the only real incident with something like this occurring. Honestly, I think it's not so much people who were genuinely offended by it, as it is simply people who liked the name "Ditzy" over "Derpy", and are using any kind of leeway they can to either have it changed, or anything else about her in the future removed entirely. That's what I'm gathering from this so far.

But yes, buying Derpy shirts is not a bad thing either. :)

      ReplyDelete
    149. Wasn't there an email screenshot posted a couple of days ago where someone from Hasbro confirmed that episode takedown from iTunes has nothing to do with Derpy debate? Even more - that they didn't even heard about it. And I haven't seen any massive anti-Derpy petitions with thousands of signers either.

So, why are we panicking now? What exactly new information do we have? Someone asked welovefine to remove stuff? Any confirmation of this or are you going to believe all internet rumors? In this case I've got a portal to Equestria to sell you.

I understand that EqD is in need of funds and don't mind the occasional ads, but causing panic without any factual evidence only to post link to merch site is kinda low.

OMG THE SKY IS FALLING! WE ARE GOING TO DIE!

On unrelated note: I would have preferred the name and personality of the gray pegasus shows in the episode were different, but I don't care enough to sign either 'for' or 'against' petition. The will never take my headcanon from me.

      This. Just this.

      ReplyDelete
    153. Both sides of this upset me. Not what I wanted to see from the community at all.

I really like Derpy, and have become attached to re-watching episodes to look for her and smile every time I do see her. I just want to continue doing that, you know, if it doesn't 'offend' anybody.

      ReplyDelete
    154. It's funny to me how people will get so worked up over what is essentially nothing. Yes, Derpy got her scene and it was awesome, but more than likely it was a one-off nod to the fans by the writers to show us they're in on the joke. This may be an unpopular sentiment, but I'd be surprised if she ever got a bit part like that again.
And even if this ban does pass, and the character is re-edited and the old episodes taken down, it won't matter. The damage has been done at this point, in the character will be known as Derpy forever no matter what they do.
I mean, that's just how I feel about that.

      ReplyDelete
    155. as other people have said, it should also be noted that derpy has proven perfectly reasonable in many social functions. I mean, she was at the Grand Galloping Gala, and who derped that one up?

    156. @Cloudynights

Oh, you must be confused. People here aren't offended by Derpy being named Derpy, people here are offended by people who are offended by Derpy being named Derpy.

      I hope I got that right :P

Actually, if we had to send some message to Hasbro/Studio B, I'd vote for something in the lines of "It's all right. There are few people making noise, but the vast majority of us just love you and your way of doing things. So just carry on being yourselves, we'd like you that way. Seriously guys, you're the best and don't let a few noisy people think otherwise. there's no problem here"
Ok... perhaps reworded in a way that doesn't sound like a stoned guy talking, but you get the idea :D

      ReplyDelete
    157. Also just to interject on the petitions side of things, sometimes it really does just take one complaint to have something pulled especially dealing with regular or childrens television.

Not to say this makes me any happier about the situation, I just want to let people know that I've seen multiple instances of stations such as BBC channels here in the UK having to make edits or apologies based on a literal handful of complaints, so it's possible, and unfortunate.

      I still don't want to believe any of this though, I just want to smile every time I see Derpy ;_;

      ReplyDelete
    158. Derpy Hooves is a well-loved, and innocent character. She is not some symbol of hatred to be held up by a loud and obnoxious minority.

Allowing the silly mare her wonderful scene in The Last Roundup showed that even characters who are a bit ditzy are loved and tolerated.

To take that away from her, and from the fans who love her, would be showing the community that being a little different, maybe a little slow, will not be tolerated. That, my friends, would be a step in the WRONG direction.

    163. Should be noted that aside from the episode down on iTunes all other Derp related things remain. The rest that have her with scenes and game on the Hasbro website still the derp vector.

Really, with the group complaining about here there is always going to be an insulted group. There have been others that have already complained but thankfully ignored on other issues. This one might have gained some traction because political correctness is viciously effective at times. Yet, all it succeeds in actually doing is purging anyone of a certain nature more often than it gets them in and makes everyone else feel more awkward because they are objects to be pitied and tip toed around for worry of insulting them.

I also boggle at those that say because she's had some negative pictures it shows that's only how people view her. How about the hundreds of positive ones? Not to mention every pony has been drawn in unfortunate ways. Complain complain.

Tabitha rocks, she could totally pull it off. Though with this controversy I dunno if they'd take the chance sadly.

Then they threaten to call for a "nationwide ban of your product". The advertising company gets scared, threatens to pull support, and the network or show has to make concessions or apologize. No
because they know when something just isn't good and lessons are shown in an expository way, bronies fail at that because they don't "tolerate" stuff, they ignore it, in paper, but then they go sending hate mails and crying because they have no idea what a "derp" is

I know what they are, and I have my opinions on these kinds of people.

It's just I felt the need to say that while there's a good chance all of this is complete rubbish it's actually not unheard of for something to be pulled from even just one complaint.

The BBC have done it on various occasions and they don't even have advertiser money to worry about, in fact they devote an hour each week on a special program to addressing complaints. When you throw "concerned parent" into the mix things get a bit more 'srs'.

Finding this whole thing rather upsetting to be honest, in no uncertain terms discovering MLP:FiM staved off a depression relapse over Xmas and the thought of losing my weekly Derpy search upsets me a lot.

    178. This kind of thing angers me. Enough so that I just penned an email to Hasbro and Hasbro Canada's PR department. I think this is a fair statement of support without being a dick.

      My email to Hasbro PR:

      Dear Hasbro PR,

I am writing to inform you that I am extremely disturbed to learn you have both pulled the episode, ‘The Last Round Up’, from iTunes and are apparently pressuring WeLoveFine.com to drop Derpy Hooves related merchandise. While I am hoping this is not true and you’re not actually harassing WeLoveFine, if it is indeed true it will be an enormous slap in the face to one of your rapidly expanding fan communities and frankly does not inspire me to continue spending money on your products.

Yes, I am an adult fan and while I realize I am not your target audience I do represent a demographic that consists of people with large amounts of disposable income. Disposable income I have not only used to purchase your products (My Little Pony, Nerf, etc.), but also to purchase products from your licensed partners (WeLoveFine) for myself and my niece and nephew. Income I will feel far less compelled to spend on your products if Hasbro pushes for the removal of Derpy Hooves.

I understand that you have most likely received some negative feedback regarding the portrayal of the much beloved fan character and I will even admit that I also think the voice chosen by Tabitha St. Germain, was probably not the best choice and could be misinterpreted. That said, this is no cause to go on the offensive and start purging the character. We love her, we made her and she is without a doubt the single symbol that represents your adult fans. When DHX decided to give her a full scripted appearance it made our hearts soar. It was the ultimate acknowledgement of our existence and it was hugely respectful. To attempt to undo that is to say that we don’t matter and if we don’t matter than we won’t support you. We may not be the biggest part of the fan base, but as I mentioned earlier, we’re the part with money to burn. I cannot see how any responsible business could actively choose to ignore a source of revenue.

Up to this point Hasbro’s acceptance and support of the Brony community has been seen as a shining example to other businesses. The way you’ve handled us has even caught the attention of major media outlets like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Forbes (http://www.forbes.com/sites/danielnyegriffiths/2012/01/19/skyrim-ponies-sopa/). Don’t let this be the decision that throws all of that good publicity and support away. Don’t be the company that took the complaints of a few people and spat in the face of a far larger portion of your customers.

Derpy Hooves is not now, nor has she ever been an insult to the handicapped community. If people choose to take her that way, then it’s the people who are wrong and a responsible business should stand up and correct them. Sweeping it under the rug is little more than an admission of guilt. Guilt that should not exist because DHX Media, and by extension Hasbro, Inc., have done nothing wrong.

Again, I hope that I am being misinformed, but if all of this is true then it’s a big mistake. Thank you for your time. I would appreciate a response. I can be contacted at [redacted] or at [redacted].

Exactly. I don't mind if the posts don't come as fast so long as you get the story right. Knee jerk reactions like this don't help.

    181. I'm going to have to echo those bothered by the vagueness of this post. If you have something to report, you should report it directly. If you can't, then I feel like it shouldn't be reported at all until it can be. I feel like this kind of rumor-mongering does not reflect very well. :\

You're offended by me being offended? Well I'm offended by you being offended by me being offended.

(And yes that would be the best, it's seems paranoia has gripped the masses)

    183. I can't believe you guys are emailing Hasbro based on unconfirmed rumors and speculation. You know you're only drawing more attention to this from this suits than we need, right?

    184. Ditzy Doo is a better regular pony-like name. Derpy Hooves sounds like a "herr derr" name :(...but I'll by a shirt anyway for my favorite background pony character, DITZY DOO.

I'm not one to say people what to send or not, but if you accept at least a bit of advice, I'd try to write it so the possibility of all of this not being true is stated at the beginning.

    187. Wait...what? This...this is contested? When did people derp on what a meme is? Have they never herd or been to the internet? I'm so confused!

      >Seth, STOP REPORTING ON RUMORS THAT WILL MAKE PEOPLE SIGN PETITIONS. We are an army of angry fans and it is your job to make sure we aren't jumping the gun and making us all look like asses.

      This.

Don't get me wrong, I think it would be great if this is the way it was handled. But given both the rumors AND the hard evidence we have (episode off iTunes right now), it doesn't seem to be the way this will go down. It's just too little too late at this point.

And another very important point needs to be made:
Whatever comes of this situation, we, as a community, need to just roll with it and lay low for a while. Unless we're sending positive feedback with no mention of the Derpy incident whatsoever. Again, I don't think Hasbro or Studio B will mind that kind of feedback.

      Cool fanon fanaticism, bro.

Anyways, what the fuck is going on? I thought the whole derpy controversy blew over? What happened this time? Sources please?
