@Peter Yeah, gotta agree - way too melodramatic. I mean come on, most of the world doesn't even know we exist - other than spreading memes like wildfire, we've hardly "shown the world" anything at this point.
But regardless, this was an amazing year for bronies. I became a brony in July of this year, mere days after finding out about the show, and the fanbase just keeps growing at a size that astounds me. It's gone from pretty humble numbers at the start of 2011 to the colossal meme/art/music/video/story-generating force of the internet it is today. And I only expect even better things for 2012!
So here's to a new year, full of promise for this community! See you all next year!

I may have come into this a little late, but I'm glad that I did. This is just the most awesome community, and I can see it's been an equally awesome year. Ok this video is SO FUCKING inaccurate. I'm pretty sure this guy only made it to be featured in EqD (and I must say, good job sir).
EqD was never a refuge for ponyfags when the bans started in 4chan because the ponythreads were only banned for one day, no more, and Ponychan and FiMchan were already online.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. This video is a highly inaccurate account of the growth of the brony fandom. It was the spread to /b/ that popularized it and Equestria Daily was around a good month before he Febuary bans (which only lased a couple of days). Yeah, 4chan isn't the center of the fandom it used to be but it is still a part of it.

While I don't think MLP:FiM will have quite the change on the world as we think it will (or we think it should), it definitely has a tremendous impact on the animation industry for sure.
It's opened the door for a whole new breed of storytelling...which actually isn't new at all. More of a comeback. But MLP:FiM has shown that there is quite a market and appeal for making a simple, straightforward story that doesn't depend upon cynicism or sarcasm to make a point. Just write sincerely from the heart, throw in some d'awww, make all the characters four-legged and marshmallow-shaped, bam, success.

Regardless of what anypony thinks about the politics, you can't deny this show has led to a seismic shift in animation and online. Even Hasbro execs say they haven't seen anything like this in 25 years. We're starting something that can't be stopped, that has gone beyond a mere fandom to a philosophy, a way of thinking. That's not an exaggeration. Dare to believe you can change the world, it's OK. Start with one person and let it spread. Just don't force it, let it happen naturally. People want to be kind and happy, they've just forgotten how.

Congratualtions on making the New Years without dying out the fandom Bronies! Despite our recent setbacks by the mainstream media and ignorant individuals, we have become very strong. Just think of this, what new coming bronies in 2012 will see in just 1 year.
1. Fallout Equestria: One of the longest and most liked fanfics of the fandom.
2. Almost 300 Drawfriends and a endless amount of comics for new artists to get ideas.
3. A countless number of fanfics, not even half of them are shown in this 1 site.
4. Videos of people making wonderful music, music videos, and spreading the word through the silliest and even suicidal ways. (A guy on a unicycle down a highway playing a ukelele singing giggle at the ghostlies, NO FEAR)
5. Every single episode can be gotten from YouTube, I think... Unless Hasbro took action.
The point is, we did in 1 year which usually takes fandoms 3-4 years!

Pizza pony you look so tasty. Being slighty new to the fandom (1-2 months now I think) I just got to say it's been amazing to see the creativity and passion of all the bronies in the community and it is something that I am very proud to be part of :) *raises glass* onwards to the new year my fellow bronies
Seems to sum it up pretty well.
Some of these statements sounded like mockery after the situation with PonyArchive. You know, when 98% community has just flipped off their former friends on the first sign of trouble :)
If we want to make this fandom really great, we must figure out how to do things together, not only enjoy projects done by individuals. PonyArchive was a failed test. No actions towards convincing Hasbro to create a reasonable system of distribution of episodes seem to be another total fail, a walkover this time (I don't count tiny petitions for local communities like the one in UK).

The guy narrarating the video is exaggerating. He makes it sound like this show is having a profound impact on society itself, which definitely isn't the case. Sure, it spawned memes that kind of spread to bits of the English parts on the Internet, but I could still walk around a high school and ask anyone if they're aware of the show and only like 10% of the people would know what I'm talking about. The only reason why we think it's everywhere is because we only go on sites related to it. This show still isn't as nearly widespread as many of the memes of the past. Sure, it made "meme of the year", but it's not like it was a good year for memes anyways.
My point is that this guy is blowing the effect this show out of proportion. He's being as dramatic as a furry.
@Maquabra Just stop. PonyArchive only brought that reaction on by themselves by acting in a childish and impudent. If people TRULY want the fandom to stop getting a bad rap. It's to stop taking everything so seriously. It was something that was never a problem when it started out but gradually people have taken things so much to heart and it really is a shame.
It's hard to support someone if they start taking things too seriously like PA did with their repsonse.
And another thing is that the Kibosh on the "love and tolerate" motto for the fandom. And get it back to it's orignal purpose as an effective counter trolling measure in internet interactions around the net. I'm not saying that is an excuse to act antagonistic towards others but rather. Using the tactic properly.
But I digress.
