I know people throw that out a lot whenever the new episode comes out, but this is just filled with what made this show enjoyable to us.
Not my favorite of the new season, but definitely a good episode. Caught the swap about halfway through (the hair was pretty obvious, and the eyes can't be hidden). And yes, Sweetie Belle, everypony is conspiring against you.
I get it! Now I see why episode happened! So Twilight wouldn't have to be in Every single episode for the lesson to get sent off. Which allows for episodes that are character centric that never even see Twilight.
Oh my Luna, that episode was Awesome! It was so adorable. And it really had a WHAT A TWIST ending. Once I saw those blue eyes, though, I knew it wasn't Applejack. Disappointed in the lack of Celestia/Luna plug at the end, it would have been a perfect opportunity. Also, THEIR PARENTS! WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT! XD They were hilarious. A very good, solid episode. Can't wait for next week.
So I think that one of the fillies in the race was Dinky, so that means that she has a sister. Does that mean Derpy has two daughters? How old does that make Derpy?
You know (and before the 'Dinky is not Derpy's daughter' backlash kicks in)...this could be an interesting twist to cannon.
What if that purple pony with Dinky isn't her sister, but instead a very close cousin - thus Derpy (in the audience to support her daughter and niece) can remain Dinky's mother, reconciling this episode with fanon.
I loved this episode, I did not see some of the twists coming ("Applejack is my new sister"), which only made this episode purely amazing. I was surprised quite often, I was laughing almost non-stop, and I actually almost burst into tears during some of the d'aww moments.
Also RARITY'S PARENTS! WHOA! I didn't see that coming!
It really isn't the same kind of episode as the others in this season either. The two-parter and Lesson Zero were both crazy, chaotic ones while Nightmare Night was the special that reintroduced Luna. This one was a bit less crazy, sure, but I think it makes up for that by being so ridiculously sweet ^^.
After thirty straight episodes (30!) it's about time that Twilight got a break. Don't get me wrong, she IS best pony, but I would say she has earned a vacation. Especially after going insane in Lesson Zero.
Also, said episode now actually impacts the rest of the series.o.o
I think Rarity's and Sweety Bell's parents are from Wisconsin. At least that's the stereotypical accent they have, could also argue that area of Canada too.
i liked that episode! i also love how all my friends call me a fag for watching the show and say their disappointed in me, yet they stand infront of the tv n watch it XD
Well, not a 5 star episode this time, but still solid and funny. The Ditzy thing makes me worry that the creators will keep there finger on the pulse of the fandom less than when Lauren was at the helm.
Wow that episode was good! Lots of funny moments, and I liked that twist in the race at the end! Also Berry Punch and Dinky having sisters of there own was nice. And Im just blown away that Rarity sent a letter to Princess Celestia! So rarity is the first outside of Twilight to send a letter to her at the end of an episode!
Adorable episode. Way better than I expected from the description. Glad to have an episode just about the characters in a sympathetic situation as a break from the madness.
Shock and awe at parents. Breakfast looked like something out of the Worst Bakers in Equestria fic. Complete with burnt juice.
Totally called Rarity disguised as AJ mid-race. In retrospect, should have been easy since she had blue eyes instead of AJ's green.
To resolve some of the comments I've seen, marshmallows were made from plants (the marshmallow plant, no less) before they were made from horses. And the sheep thing is a pretty direct reference to Babe.
Y'know, it's funny. Going into Season 2, one of my biggest hopes was that the Sister relationships would receive more exploration. When I saw the summary for this episode a few weeks ago, I was expecting a fun enough Rarity/Sweetie Belle episode, but bringing in Applejack and Apple Bloom into the equation was a pleasant surprise indeed, and one that very much made me smile; AJ herself was a nice surprise this episode, finally getting a chance to show her own unique brand of wisdom and compassion rather than her usually showcased stubborn streak.
I don't know that I'd call it a GREAT episode; there aren't a whole lot of memorable jokes (although Granny Smith struggling with the loudspeaker gave me a good giggle, as was the fight over who would be AJ's sister) and I feel like introducing Rarity's parents for the sole purpose of sending them away felt a bit odd (though it WAS amusing to meet them even so). But nonetheless, I very much enjoyed this episode overall. "Friendship for Magic" is, for me, at its best when it's exploring the emotions and relationships of its characters, and "Sisterhooves Social" does that with a lot more focus than the show has done in some time. There are too many heartwarming moments to count, and the final act surprise is both a brilliant reveal AND subtly tipped off before hand in a satisfying fashion. A+ maybe not, but definitely a solid A. ^_^
-Too much Rarity, as a character I find her irritating in large doses -The ending was pretty daww though -WTF No Twilight(or Pinkie, Fluttershy, Rainbow for that matter)!!! -Given that they've established you don't need all of the Mane 6 in an episode(or even most of them for that matter), I really really hope that there is a just Celestia and Twilight centric episode this season. -I thought they nailed the sibling dynamic pretty well.
I think the whole Dinky sisters with Star Sparkle thing could be Dinky just using Star Sparkle as her sister, like what Sweetie Belle did with Applejack. Kinda like was TB3 said.
This is the story of my life. Until my sisters moved out, then one moved back in, then she moved back out, then back in and-
dinky had a sister and they weren't related to ditzy at all. berry punch was a sister to pinchy. Almost every background pony's family got rewritten. In this case i like Fannon much more than cannon.
That was an awesome episode! Its good to see the writers aren't making the series into just a humorfest, I like to have a few episodes with some drama in it.
But still no songs, they must be putting them off we still have 20 more episodes of this season so I'm not worried
Are we just going to overlook the whole, Berry no longer "overprotective mom" now "overprotective sister" thing? Also, Hasbo do not fuck with Dinky and Derpy!
I have yet to analyze the backgrounds in this episode, didn't quite catch them during the whole competition thingy and the race... I'm impatiently waiting for the uploads.
So, the fan-fiction becomes an alternative universe. Creators certainly don't read it. Which is good! Because they still can surprise us. My only hope, they don't screw it ;)
Good episode! First thought - no Twilight, that's something new. Rarity getting dirty and doesn't care about her mane geting ruined? Now THAT was unexpected.
You're all wrong about Dinky. Derpy/Ditzy was either on her mail route, or afraid that she would make Dinky mess up in the contest, so she asked Dinky is she would mind if somepony else went with her. You see? Apply some logic, stallion.
my favorite part is after all the bitching about how no Applejack-centric episodes have been revealed yet, she's the only one of the mane six other than Rarity in this episode.
Good episode. Not best episode, but a good nonetheless.
Pros: Rarity & Sweetie's parents. Too bad the cutie marks are never shown. That artwork and the flowers. D'aww-able.
Cons: The Ditzy/Dinky pairing got sonic rain-nuked. A moment of silence for the bonfire about to take place.
I don't include the fact Twilight isn't there because Lesson Zero did indeed establish that she doesn't need to appear in all episodes. Too bad, I miss the little egghead.
As a side note, while I wasn't super excited over this episode, it actually is a fantastic episode for its target audience. Getting into fights with older siblings can quite quite the issue to kids.
gotta say, this episode makes me highly excited for for more "focus on one pony" episodes. with Twilight apparently no longer required to play a major role in every ep, this could lead to some very interesting new episodes...
I thought that this was specifically a competition for sisters? If that is the case then Derpy and Berry Punch not competing with their foals doesn't change anything. Dinky and Ruby are their foals, not their sisters.
Best episode of the season in my opinion. It actually had a plot, the character development was great, and the overarching theme was just what this show is about. Plus, I can relate very well to Rarity in this one. Hopefully they continue these slice-of-life episodes.
Wow, Just got done watching the new episode. History has been made here in two ways. One we have just meet Rarity and Sweetie Belle's parants for the first time. The second this is the first episode that Twilight does not make an appearance at all. I was hoping to see Luna in this episode since it is about relationships between your siblings and it would have been fitting to see Luna and Celestia together but you can't wish for everything. This episode I definitely can relate too. Even though it focuses on the bond between sisters, those with older or younger brothers can relate to it too. Episode was funny and carried a great message throughout.
Dinky and Sparkle (I think that's her fanon name) are both sisters. Ergo, Derpy has two daughters and is either older than time itself, or all those DoctorxDerpy fics got it right.
Unless if Derpy is older than we think and has two daughters and happens to have a very young sister herself, stranger things have happened. Fanon can work around it somehow, it always does.
Ya, something like that. As this episode shows, competing together doesn't necessarily mean they're sisters. Maybe Derpy was conceded that her eyes would have messed them up in the race, so she waived participation to a friend so Dinky could have fun.
The tears over canon kicking fanon in a pit are priceless. Come on, folks, did you honestly expect that Studio B was going to take all of your fanwakery and make it 100% canon? Be thankful that you got Derpy.
As vocal a subculture as this is, they are not under orders to cater to fanon wishes when they script eps.
Might have been wrong about the theme but Derpy was there... at the social...
It seems if there was an important event Derpy will be there. All hail the muffin queen!
Things I've learned...
Lethal Chef is Sweetie Belle.
This was more of an Applejack episode.
Rarity is talented in more than just dressmaking.
Rarities Father and Mother make an appearance, her father is a football player.
Obvious lesson was obvious. The trade-off was easily recognizable if you pay attention to the muddy hair. In fact it was entirely obvious that Applejack could clear the mudhole.
Applejack can hold her breath for ten minutes... she's a pirate.
This episode was below average in my opinion, I'm not a Rarity fan. However I will be giving points to my appreciation of Sweetie Belle.
P.S. Ponies are capable of eating eggs and dairy products, but not meat.
... Well... Uhh... At uh... At least now Trevor knows why the discussion is help in these places... Trevor didn't know that spoilers weren't allowed in Ponychat. (Even thought that SHOULD have uh... Been obvious to Trevor... *headdesk*)
Still... Now one knows for the future! ANYHOOF... So apparently,
~SPOILER~
... Okay, so apparently, Sweetie Belle lives with her parents, as Rares lives on her own. That makes sense as to why Sweetie Belle is so excited to spend time with her sis, while Rares is kinda... Unenthusiastic. (Stupid works...)
Wait a second... Parents are alive.. which means that Simply Rarity is... NO! NO! NONONONONONONONONONONONONONOOOOOOOOOOOOO! But! ... But!... GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! *Dies*
I loved the ending, I loved Rarity's acting during the whole thing (Tabitha St. Germain is the best VA of the whole show, seriously), and the entire story was really engaging. This comes from a guy who argues with his sister all the time because she takes his stuff all the time (drawing tools, videogames, etc.)
Great episode. So far we haven't had a bad episode this season. Keep it up guys! My body is ready for Dashie looking for a pet!
When Sweetie and Rarity were arguing, it reminded me of how my two sisters lock horns with eachother. My brothers laughed when I pointed at the screen and said "meanwhile in our house"
I should probably say it again because it's really sinking in now: I REALLY like this episode, the story was really fresh and had several surprises, the interactions were brilliant, comedy golden (as always), and Applejack and Applebloom's roles provided so much more character development for everypony.
Also, it figures that Rarity's parents (particularaly her dad) are more laid back and calm when compared to Rarity in her almost-usual OCD-mode
if you're upset about the Derpy-dinky thing, just do what I did with lyras renaming: pretend it never happened. you know this show can get incredibly redundant and confused with background characters; they might fix it later in the season
So, from what I've gathered, in the first few minutes that I missed, we saw Rarity and Sweetie's parents, there was a smoke alarm (maybe? only saw one comment about that) and Twilight didn't appear at all in this one. I liked this episode, but now we have to wait till next week for another (hopefully awesome) new one.
Why is everyone freaking out about Dinky being paired with another pony? As we saw with Sweety and Applejack at the start of the race: They don't NEED to be blood sisters to participate.
-Sweetie Belle lives with her parents most of the time. -The Apple family are slavers of sheep. -Ponies really do think of Celestia as a god-princess. -There are several sister pairs of background ponies people are going to have a field day with. -TWILIGHT IS NOT IN EVERY EPISODE!!! -And lastly, Spike is a major creeper.
I loved this episode, especially how their parents are completely different from them. That seems to be a recurring thing...
As for the people saying 'OMG this means Dinky isn't Derpy's sister!' She NEVER was, she was her daughter. Fanon knowledge fail. That also means fanon can still be intact- Derpy could have two daughters, or that pony could be a cousin or even a close friend that may as well be a big sister.
Also...
>Spike is well known to have a crush on Rarity >Spike was just randomly in Rarity's boutique? >*Suspicious*

What a twist!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that was clever, never saw it coming.
ReplyDeleteMIND BLOWN
ReplyDeleteWell, at least Sweetie Bell doesn't have to deal with her big sister's alcoholism and violent outbursts.
ReplyDeleteApple Pie?
ReplyDeleteThat's a ship you don't see every day.
Rarity and Sweetie Belle are ApplePie. Alert the shippers! Also, I'm confuse.

ReplyDeleteBerry Punch wins! :D
ReplyDeleteFirst twilightless ep?
ReplyDelete@DcmRulz
ReplyDeleteYOU ARE CORRECT SIR
That mane styling with the bows...
ReplyDeleteSpike really is the best friend anypony can ever have.
ReplyDeleteNo Twilight? I AM DISSAPOINT HASBRO!
ReplyDeleteSpike is best pony again!
ReplyDeleteThat was over much too quickly...
ReplyDeleteTime to watch it again!!!
Didn't see that coming! Mind blown! Also Derpy no longer has a sister!
ReplyDeleteNo its overrrrr
ReplyDeleteWOAH
ReplyDeleteTwilight isn't the main character anymore.
And then Twilight went ballistic because somepony else wrote to the princess.
ReplyDeleteThis episode wasn't as good as the last ones....a bit too weak for my tastes
ReplyDeleteWell, they can't all be best episodes.
ReplyDeleteAwww Happy Ending! :3
ReplyDeleteIt's on again!!! :D
ReplyDeleteLol at random Spike
ReplyDeleteFirst episode not to feature Twilight?
ReplyDeleteYup. Twilight got no lovin' this episode. Not even enough to send the usual letter to Celestia. :P
ReplyDeleteAlso 1º episode without Twilight in it.
ReplyDeleteI can legitimately say that I did NOT see that coming.
ReplyDeleteDamn, Studio B, you keep raising the bar on these.
Don't patronize me, I don't get the HUB!
ReplyDeleteSpike is so...wise
ReplyDeleteI saw Berry Punch both in the competition, and the crowd.
ReplyDelete...
it was alright

OUT OF NOWHERE
BEHIND RARITYS PLOT
?!
November, the fifth.
ReplyDeleteThe day where many fanfics and fanons died on the Hub-battlefield.
@Equuizzicals
ReplyDeleteNo ! ...final dot.
It's episodes like these that are the reason we love this show! Good moral, good plot, realistic conflict. I feel content at saying this is my favorite episode so far. I know people throw that out a lot whenever the new episode comes out, but this is just filled with what made this show enjoyable to us.
ReplyDeleteRarity's parents are awesome!
ReplyDeleteMY GOD! the first episode with no twilight, was just upon us...
ReplyDeleteApplejack: at the very first...
ReplyDelete@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteLol, this was gonna happen at some point, i mean lesson zero did set up the others writing to her, did you all forget that.
Holy crap Rarity has mad skills....
ReplyDeleteAnd no Twilight for once!
Dinky ISN'T Derpy's daughter?
ReplyDeleteNUCLEAR FANFICS RE-WRITES MIDDLE INBOUND.
HAHAHAHA I SAW THAT COMING!!! WHAT A CLASSIC TACTIC!
ReplyDeleteNot my favorite of the new season, but definitely a good episode. Caught the swap about halfway through (the hair was pretty obvious, and the eyes can't be hidden). And yes, Sweetie Belle, everypony is conspiring against you.
ReplyDeletereal bronies also don't all live in america.
ReplyDeleteI get it! Now I see why episode happened! So Twilight wouldn't have to be in Every single episode for the lesson to get sent off. Which allows for episodes that are character centric that never even see Twilight.
ReplyDeleteAlso AJ + Rarity episode FTW!
At the last part I was all "There's only 3 minutes left how are Rarity and Sweetie going to makeup?" LOL. Well done show.
ReplyDeleteDerpy/Dinky fandom just got nuked.
ReplyDeleteEpisode was mid-tier for me; Not the best, not the worst.
ReplyDeleteAll around, I thought it was a good ep.
D'awwwwwwwwww
ReplyDeleteAhaha, the story of my LIFE. Until my sisters moved out then one moved back in then she moved back out and now she's back in and-
ReplyDeleteMaybe Dinky was using Star Sparkle as her substitute sister, like Sweetie Belle and Applejack? That's how I put it.
Curse how short these episodes are! Great episode though, loved everything about it.
ReplyDeleteNO Twilight?? I am outraged.. OUTRAGED.
ReplyDeleteOh my Luna, that episode was Awesome!
ReplyDeletedude... only two of the main six in the episode, I'm confus...
ReplyDeletewell, not as good as the previous episodes, but still, could have been worse; it's okay
Sence when did Ditzy Doo have Two daughters
ReplyDeleteDINKY IS CLOUD KICKER SISTER
ReplyDeleteOH SNAP
BEAUTIFUL.
ReplyDeleteIt's an alright episode. But I prefer Lunar Eclipsed a lot more. So that's still my favorite of season two so far. :)
ReplyDeleteThat was great. I liked Berry Punch's partner and Dinky's Partner.
ReplyDeleteDerpy has two daughters
ReplyDeleteSo I think that one of the fillies in the race was Dinky, so that means that she has a sister. Does that mean Derpy has two daughters? How old does that make Derpy?
ReplyDeleteDerpy now has two daughters.
ReplyDeleteYou know (and before the 'Dinky is not Derpy's daughter' backlash kicks in)...this could be an interesting twist to cannon.
ReplyDeleteWhat if that purple pony with Dinky isn't her sister, but instead a very close cousin - thus Derpy (in the audience to support her daughter and niece) can remain Dinky's mother, reconciling this episode with fanon.
I think you can make a strong case for this being the...WORST...EP....EVAR
ReplyDeleteRemember: even classic era Simpsons had "All Singing, All Dancing"
Directed by M. Night shyamalan lololololol
ReplyDeleteNo Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Twilight Sparkle, or Pinkie Pie??!?
ReplyDeleteDoes not compute.
So many fannon pairings broken.
ReplyDeleteI freaked out when the parents showed up
ReplyDeleteTHAT RARITY IS A SPAH!
ReplyDeleteI loved this episode, I did not see some of the twists coming ("Applejack is my new sister"), which only made this episode purely amazing. I was surprised quite often, I was laughing almost non-stop, and I actually almost burst into tears during some of the d'aww moments.
Also
RARITY'S PARENTS! WHOA! I didn't see that coming!
*watches new episode, noticing several new exploitable concepts*
ReplyDeleteMe: BRING ON THE SAD AND GRIMDARK FICS!
Best episode yet
ReplyDelete@Streek471
ReplyDeleteI did too...
TWINS?!
I loved that, the ending was just perfect.
ReplyDeletehaha new found respect for rarity, also PARENTS
ReplyDeleteand the fact that rarity lives alone and sweetie lives with thier parents is now canon
I will remember remember the Fifth of November.
ReplyDeleteThree of my unfinished fanfics have been utterly ruined by this episode.
Time to look for more background stuff.
Dinky!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
ReplyDeleteSpoiler kinda...
ReplyDeleteDoes this make Sparkler Derpy's Daughter?!
CARROT TOP HAS A SISTER. I HAVE SH@T BRICKS OF JOY JUST NOW~~~~~ <3
ReplyDeleteI am still kinda mad, 5 whole episodes with out a song, wtf Studio B, then again, sever lack of pinkie this season.
ReplyDeleteIt really isn't the same kind of episode as the others in this season either. The two-parter and Lesson Zero were both crazy, chaotic ones while Nightmare Night was the special that reintroduced Luna. This one was a bit less crazy, sure, but I think it makes up for that by being so ridiculously sweet ^^.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Derpy had to sit out due to an injury, and got a friend to run with Dinky...
ReplyDeleteJust like I thought, since Lesson Zero's ending, This show is no longer about a main character (Twilight) and her 5 friends.
ReplyDeleteIt has six main characters, all of them of equal importance in script.
After thirty straight episodes (30!) it's about time that Twilight got a break. Don't get me wrong, she IS best pony, but I would say she has earned a vacation. Especially after going insane in Lesson Zero.
ReplyDeleteAlso, said episode now actually impacts the rest of the series.o.o
I support the show, I just don't support my cable provider. They're eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil...
ReplyDeleteI watched it, and its the best episode i season 2, too bad it will be second best after "Mysterious mare do well"!
ReplyDeleteI think Rarity's and Sweety Bell's parents are from Wisconsin. At least that's the stereotypical accent they have, could also argue that area of Canada too.
ReplyDeletei liked that episode! i also love how all my friends call me a fag for watching the show and say their disappointed in me, yet they stand infront of the tv n watch it XD
ReplyDeleteWell, not a 5 star episode this time, but still solid and funny. The Ditzy thing makes me worry that the creators will keep there finger on the pulse of the fandom less than when Lauren was at the helm.
ReplyDeleteThis episode was awesome. No Dash, Twi, Fluttershy, or Pinkie, but still awesome. Also, alchohol in ponyville is now canon XD
ReplyDeleteAre we forgetting the end of Lesson Zero already?
ReplyDeleteCelestia wants letters from everypony now, not just Twilight.
Also, I can feel the family trees being re-written as we speak.
Wow that episode was good!
ReplyDeleteLots of funny moments, and I liked that twist in the race at the end!
Also Berry Punch and Dinky having sisters of there own was nice. And Im just blown away that Rarity sent a letter to Princess Celestia!

I don't know if anyone else caught this, but Rarity's father has a cutie mark of 3 footballs.
ReplyDeleteCalled it before anyone else as far as I'm aware of.
But... no Twilight! D:
ReplyDeleteMore like the first "the-4-other-main-characters-of-The-Mane-6" episode.
ReplyDeleteBetter luck next Saturday!
-Too much Rarity, as a character I find her irritating in large doses
ReplyDelete-The ending was pretty daww though
-WTF No Twilight(or Pinkie, Fluttershy, Rainbow for that matter)!!!

ReplyDeleteThat picture Sweetie Belle made... ;A;
ReplyDelete@Marvin Martian
ReplyDeleteDinky will forever be Ditzy/Derpy's sister in all realms and alternate dimensions, before, now, and after in the mind of all.
Just that.
Any real fans will tell.
that was... BEAUTIFUL
ReplyDeleteI have yet to analyze the backgrounds in this episode, didn't quite catch them during the whole competition thingy and the race...
ReplyDeleteI'm impatiently waiting for the uploads.
Sister for a day!
ReplyDeleteONE. DAY.
So, the fan-fiction becomes an alternative universe.
ReplyDeleteCreators certainly don't read it.
ReplyDeletemy favorite part is after all the bitching about how no Applejack-centric episodes have been revealed yet, she's the only one of the mane six other than Rarity in this episode.
ReplyDeleteGuys, we should just stick to fanon! Fanon rules over canon at times! Derpy as Dinky's mother for the win!
ReplyDeleteBerry Punch's sister, though, we can keep that.
This episode obliterated so much fanfiction.....
ReplyDeleteLoved it.
Good episode. Not best episode, but a good nonetheless.
ReplyDeletePros: Rarity & Sweetie's parents. Too bad the cutie marks are never shown. That artwork and the flowers. D'aww-able.

ReplyDeleteI dont see why so many people saying, derpy isnt dinky daughter, when it was a SISTERLY competition, not a mother daughter one, lol.
ReplyDeleteRarity is so cute when she's wet. Oh wait, shoot!
ReplyDeletegotta say, this episode makes me highly excited for for more "focus on one pony" episodes. with Twilight apparently no longer required to play a major role in every ep, this could lead to some very interesting new episodes...
ReplyDeletewho cares about the pairings
ReplyDelete@Unknown
ReplyDeleteYeah.
Ditzy was probably too busy delivering the mail to enter the competition... but she wanted Dinky to have fun, and let a friend go with her.
Season 2 needs more singing.
ReplyDeleteRewatching...
ReplyDeletewait, socks? SOCKS! They do have socks!
plus, tons of new stuff for all meme creators ;)
ReplyDeleteWow Derpy has a Unicorn husband. Two Unicorn daughters
ReplyDeleteSweetiebuse.
ReplyDeleteSo basically, Rarity's like Damon Wayans character in Bamboozled, talking all fancy while dad is like "negro, where the fuck did you get that accent?"
ReplyDeleteI thought that this was specifically a competition for sisters? If that is the case then Derpy and Berry Punch not competing with their foals doesn't change anything. Dinky and Ruby are their foals, not their sisters.
ReplyDeleteEither way, time to watch it again!
This is actually the first week since season 2 started that I haven't had access to the actual channel.
ReplyDeleteBest episode of the season in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteIt actually had a plot, the character development was great, and the overarching theme was just what this show is about. Plus, I can relate very well to Rarity in this one.
Hopefully they continue these slice-of-life episodes.
How could Dinky be the purple pony's sister if Dinky was a unicorn pony and the purple pony is an earth pony?
ReplyDeleteWow, Just got done watching the new episode.
ReplyDelete@Greenf0x By episode 5 in S1, we only had 'Giggle at the Ghostie' and Pinkie's bit in Ticket Master.
ReplyDeleteGranny Smith made me laugh the most this episode.
ReplyDeleteEnding was heart warming and had a nice twist in there to make it so.
Good episode. Not in my top favorites, but I haven't disliked any episode thus far and this is no exception.
I loved this episode. It was so cute... rarity and aj centric... and Sweetiebelle being terrible at everything is now cannon.
ReplyDeleteDinky is Derpy's daughter, not sister. Did everyone already forget?
ReplyDeleteDinky and Sparkle (I think that's her fanon name) are both sisters. Ergo, Derpy has two daughters and is either older than time itself, or all those DoctorxDerpy fics got it right.
ReplyDelete@DJnickbeta
ReplyDeleteUnless if Derpy is older than we think and has two daughters and happens to have a very young sister herself, stranger things have happened. Fanon can work around it somehow, it always does.
@TB3
ReplyDeleteFans would agree to that, yes... A family friend or a relative playing with Dinky.
Wow this was a brilliant episode! Really heartfelt and funny!
ReplyDeleteHm, not sure if the last one went through, so I'll summarize:
ReplyDeleteCARROT TOP has a sister.
Therefore, Carrot Top is still best pony.
THUSFORE, I am stupidly happily excited~ <3
I wanna sister!! Being an only child has, and always will, SUCK.
ReplyDelete@Aspio
ReplyDeleteYa, something like that. As this episode shows, competing together doesn't necessarily mean they're sisters. Maybe Derpy was conceded that her eyes would have messed them up in the race, so she waived participation to a friend so Dinky could have fun.
No song. I am disappoint.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know Dinky had 2 children, she is way older then I thought.
ReplyDelete@Unknown
ReplyDeleteEither that or Derpy is older than she looks...
By far the worst episode of the second season :(
ReplyDeleteAwesome episode, but I can't help but get disturbed that Twilight wasn't in it at all.
ReplyDeleteWell, others liked this ep. *shrug*
ReplyDeleteand Robot Chicken was right, Hungry Hungry Hippos should be the next Hasbro summer blockbuster.
Another reason I loved this episode. It did not focus around comedic exploits unlike the previous two. Very well done, indeed.
ReplyDeleteScootaloo: How could you two do something without me?! Our friendship is over!!!
ReplyDelete@snowfi6916
ReplyDeleteI don't think it was established they live WITH rarity... but rather that Rarity was babysitting her little sister while they were on vacation.
Also... doggie doo? Did anyone see that commercial? WTF?
Sure as hell was better than Lesson Zero, but not an amazing episode. Mid Tier at best
ReplyDeleteThe tears over canon kicking fanon in a pit are priceless. Come on, folks, did you honestly expect that Studio B was going to take all of your fanwakery and make it 100% canon? Be thankful that you got Derpy.
ReplyDeleteAs vocal a subculture as this is, they are not under orders to cater to fanon wishes when they script eps.
A game show based around Hasbro boardgames.
ReplyDeleteI SEE WHAT U DID THERE
I thought this episode was stronger than Luna Eclipsed tbh.
ReplyDelete@Jen
ReplyDeleteThis does seem like a logical explanation.
Not everypony can get vacation for a day, to go for a competition... only need a family member or good friend to replace.
who was the episode writer?
ReplyDeleteMaybe Twilight was on a "vacation"... on the moon
ReplyDeletethere was no song...FFFFFFUUUUUUUU-
ReplyDeleteMight have been wrong about the theme but Derpy was there... at the social...
ReplyDeleteIt seems if there was an important event Derpy will be there.
*headdesk*)
ReplyDeleteStill... Now one knows for the future! ANYHOOF... So apparently,
~SPOILER~
... Okay, so apparently, Sweetie Belle lives with her parents, as Rares lives on her own. That makes sense as to why Sweetie Belle is so excited to spend time with her sis, while Rares is kinda... Unenthusiastic. (Stupid works...)
Wait a second... Parents are alive.. which means that Simply Rarity is... NO! NO! NONONONONONONONONONONONONONOOOOOOOOOOOOO! But! ... But!... GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! *Dies*
~ Magical Trevor, Minstrel of Equestria
Dinky can still have an older sister, Derpy is just older than we though
ReplyDeleteSo, the Dinky thing is proof that Studio B isn't going to start warping things to accommodate us. I'm okay with that.
ReplyDeletei lub these episodes
ReplyDelete@Zeitgeist
ReplyDelete...this is indeed something that people seem to have forgotten. Myself for a second.
Thus making 'that' pony, a possible family member OR friend landing a hoof for the occasion.
Noi and Carrot Top are sisters. This is canon now.
ReplyDeleteHow am I the first one to mention this?
Cylestia's stream got banned somepony just ruined the best channel on live stream for ponies ;-;
ReplyDeleteI think Dinky's evident sister is called Sparkler. And Derpy is now immortal to have two daughters.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great episode.
ReplyDeleteI loved the ending, I loved Rarity's acting during the whole thing (Tabitha St.
ReplyDeleteI should probably say it again because it's really sinking in now: I REALLY like this episode, the story was really fresh and had several surprises, the interactions were brilliant, comedy golden (as always), and Applejack and Applebloom's roles provided so much more character development for everypony.
Also, it figures that Rarity's parents (particularaly her dad) are more laid back and calm when compared to Rarity in her almost-usual OCD-mode
Having a close, older sister, I loved this episode. This episode reminded me of how my sister and I would treat each other lol.
ReplyDeleteFanfics that get Jossed by canon are still valid; they just become alternate universe, what-if fanfics.
ReplyDeleteI'm calling it now: Someone's gonna write a Bobby's World crossover fic now, don'tcha know.
ReplyDelete(Though it ain't gonna be me...)
@nemryn
ReplyDeleteHonestly, this means jack-nothing.
Just that Derpy/Ditzy had a family member or a friend to help and go with Dinky to the competition.
Dinky is Ditzy's DAUGHTER, not SISTER, after all...
...yep, Equestrian sheep are SENTIENT, yet treated like our world's sheep.
ReplyDeleteSLAVERY. IS. FUCKING. CANON.
if you're upset about the Derpy-dinky thing, just do what I did with lyras renaming: pretend it never happened. you know this show can get incredibly redundant and confused with background characters; they might fix it later in the season
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFzLd8EK3sU
ReplyDeleteSo, from what I've gathered, in the first few minutes that I missed, we saw Rarity and Sweetie's parents, there was a smoke alarm (maybe? only saw one comment about that) and Twilight didn't appear at all in this one. I liked this episode, but now we have to wait till next week for another (hopefully awesome) new one.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWhy is everyone freaking out about Dinky being paired with another pony? As we saw with Sweety and Applejack at the start of the race: They don't NEED to be blood sisters to participate.
ReplyDeleteFanon is still intact folks.
@TB3
ReplyDeleteI'm going with that. This seems like the best way to do it.
Further evidence for "scootaloo has no family" sadfics.
ReplyDeleteIm Uploading this right now to my youtube channel <3 Without commercials.
ReplyDelete@mycutiemarkisagun
ReplyDeleteyou mean sapient. I mean, sheep are sentient IRL too. All mammals are. But yeah, that's funny if you think hard about it.
Also... seriously... did nobody see the doggy doo commercial?
Watching it on the HUB with my bronies on skype is the best.
ReplyDeleteGreat episode!
Ruby Pinch: She's my sister and my daughter!!!
ReplyDelete@mycutiemarkisagun
ReplyDelete"Since yah won't stop tryin' to run away, ah'm gonna have ta cut yer hoof off..."
An episode without Twilight. A first.
ReplyDeleteRewriting fan-fics? That's nonsense.. "Simply Rarity" can't be rewriten.
ReplyDeleteSimply tag them non-canon or something like that.
Watch MLP:FIM on the HUB? I can't. I live in Canada. -.-;
ReplyDelete@mycutiemarkisagun
ReplyDeleteThe cows and sheeps don't care.
Nor does Angel the rabbit care of being and acting a rabbit, or spike being Twilight's assistant, as example.
No need to search for racism OR (other things) that sort of things.
What we have learned from this episode:
ReplyDelete-Sweetie Belle lives with her parents most of the time.
DAT TWIST
ReplyDeleteI loved this episode, especially how their parents are completely different from them.
Also...
>Spike is well known to have a crush on Rarity
>Spike was just randomly in Rarity's boutique? >*Suspicious*
@Jimperz
ReplyDeleteThis man raises a good point
After looking back through the episode, I have come to a conclusion.
ReplyDeleteCLONE PONIES
There are soooo many duplicates. It's the only explanation.
1080p current status: Render render render.
ReplyDelete@nemryn
ReplyDeleteYou may be one of a few. The comment above yours and others showing up tells me that fans have forgotten their place.
I rather liked it :3
ReplyDeleteThat was a sweet touching episode
