So no Fluttershy? She better be getting one of the next episodes then (I try to avoid spoilers of upcoming eps so forgive me if we know she is). Also, Twilightish haired Rarity and Rarityish haired Twilight make me HNNNNNNG.
I see what you mean with more visual gags then story line, but it was needed. alot of seriuos episodes so far this sesson, that a bit of light hearted fun is what was needed
I gotta admit I was very happily surprised by that ep. Not only was it alot better then I figured it would be...but it had alot of Zecora which is always a plus.
My only complaint is that it seemed a bit rushed but I guess that's what happens when you show Applebloom turning into a super acrobat for so many long minutes - but it was worth it lol.
Wait....at around the one minute mark where Scootaloo kicks the bowling ball and it nearly hits those three guys....is that.....weird al in the middle?
In keeping with most episodes that focus on the CMC's desire to obtain a Cutie Mark, "The Cutie Pox" is fun enough but nothing special. There are a lot of fun little details, and I think "Were your Zebra Senses tingling?" may be my new favorite Applejack joke, but on the whole it's just sort of average. The plot feels like it takes forever to actually get started, and as amusing as Apple Bloom's showboating is, it feels like it just sort of goes on and on without ever being particularly interesting or funny.
Still, like I said, there are quite a few good details. VERY nice for Zecora to finally get some good screen time again, all the better to have her relationship with Apple Bloom revisited. Plus, hey, Twist! And with dialogue no less. :D It was also kind of cool to get to see the interior of the Apple Family's home for the first time, and as always AJ's sisterly concern for little Apple Bloom is very touching; her increasing desperation to get somepony to tell the truth was well done. And once it really gets going, Apple Bloom's Pox Powers get pretty funny (I particularly liked her "fancy speak" Cutie Mark X3; ).
But on the whole, the ep's definitely on the lower end of what FiM can do. The pacing feels very bizarre, with Pinkie just sort of showing up out of nowhere to deliver her "truth" (and not in the good, random Pinkie Pie way, but in an awkward-directing way), and none of its story elements ever really coming into focus. Most importantly, there just doesn't feel like a whole lot of humor that really hits home this time around.
P.S. - It's also not a good idea for a little kid to try mixing up medicine, especially when she doesn't know what she's doing. I probably should have included that with my lessons about being honest with yourself and learning to be patient.
My friends and I will now hit the reset button and go back to being the lovable little maniacs we normally are.
This was a hilarious episode. I couldn't stop laughing, except for when AB chipped her tooth. I think that's the first time we've seen a pony in real pain. Weird.
Just so much of that episode I want to bring up, but I can't remember it all. WHY CAN'T I HOLD ALL THIS AWESOME?! XD
Okay, so France (Prance?) is now def a canon place in equestria... and pretty good episode! And were those AJ parents on the wall?!
And also... fucking give big mac lines!!! you did it before! do it again! stop making him a gag! he is the only male other than braeburn and arguably the doctor with speaking lines! LET. HIM. SPEAK. No more Eeyups and Nnnopes!
No one's gonna mention how AJ actually called Big Mac "Big Mac"? Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm not), but I do believe that's the first time that nickname has ever actually been used on the show.
And the Equestrian Gothic ponies are absolutely their parents. That is part of my own personal fanon now.
Also, Big Lebowski ponies.
Big. Fucking. Lebowski. PONIES. I love this show more than ever now.
Hey guys, during the scene where Apple Bloom is loop-de-hooping, look carefully at the background ponies after she does the trick with the flagpole. One of the fillies back there is a pegasus with blonde hair, a grey coat, and cross-eyed yellow eyes.
That was another wonderful episode, between Zecora's 'Zebra Sense', the Ponyville Bowling Alley (owned by 'Kingpin') and the Hazmat ponies, and so much aborable Applebloom!
You know, Lauren was right, the CMC do have the strengths to carry their own spin-off!
That said, I am looking forward to seeing some Dashie and Fluttershy again soon - Pinkie and Twilight presence in this episode was welcome, but I really want to see our Pegasai back!
Nb: Between the Sonic Rain-Nuke, 'Little Pip' and the Hazmat suits (complete with radiation symbol in place of a cutie-mark) there's enough material to edit together an FOE trailer, hah!
Nbb: Dinky WAS derped on screen - ye gads, I saw it right now on the repeat, just after Applebloom does the trick with the hoop and the flagpole!
Studio B loves to mess with our heads. Between this week and last week the Dinky/Derpy fanon is getting slapped around like a pinata! It's beautiful to behold...
...that said, I hope Dinky hasn't inherited her mothers strabismus, and simply is used to mimicking her expressions...damn that's adorable!
I believe that Derpy is married to Dr. Whooves. As such, that could have led to a time rift in which Derpy as a child came to the present and is now attending school. We just need to make sure the two never meet, otherwise TIME PARADOX
I NOW KNOW WHAT DERPY'S CUTIE MARK MEANS! I also know that Derpy was alive in the paleo-pony period.
She's obviously a snorkler pony! It says so in Twilights book! But then again she could also be a great golfer, could have an excellent lung capacity for high altitude flying or the bubbles represent seven different talents revolving around water.
Also could someone tell me the formula Apple Bloom was working on that chalk board before she went tazmanian devil?
Also prehensile tails comfirmed for Apple Bloom, Applejack and Zecora... why haven't fan fiction artists used the pony tails to do more things in stories?(Using tails to wield spoons and stuff.)
I could write a spy thriller with the entire 'slow laser strapped to a table bit' where Applejack free's herself using her tail.
Overall, it's a pretty good episode. Not amazing, but still entertaining and enjoyable.
The first was rather "meh" for me, with most of the jokes, while not falling flat, just didn't have me laughing. Though the Big Lebowski pony DID take me by surprise! Also, I expect many new fanarts of Ponies bowling. I'm also glad to see Zecora getting more screen time.
The best joke in the ep for me was either: Spike fawning at RarityManed!Twilight, or AJ's proclamation of "My Sister's speakin' Fancy!"
Also, I would love to have either a French Speaking or Chess Playing cutie mark. And come to think of it, haven't we seen a BG Pony with a Fleur De Lis cutie mark before? NOW WE KNOW WHAT THEY DO!
Pinkie Pie's cameo was fun too, especially the "Make it stop!" bit.
Overall, not an amazing episode, but enjoyable, and I hope the CMC DO eventually get their Cutie Mark
Lots of fun in this episode for sure. Think my favorite part was when Applebloom turned into Frenchbloom. Sacrebleu! <3
Seems a lot of people also liked the Big Lebowski reference, the hazmat suits, Derpy/Dinky appearances, and a bunch of other stuff people are trying to pick apart now.
Sometimes the comments here are almost as funny the as the episodes. x3
To all who think that it is Dinky who has Derpy eyes:
I just rewatched the clip on YouTube. It is not Dinky. The pony derping does NOT have a horn, but instead has wings. It really is a mini-Derpy Hooves. OR her daughter.
I swear I saw Ms. Faust's filly daughter in this episode when Spike was talking to the trio of ponies and said that Applebloom had "a mysterious disease called Cutie Pox for which there's no known cure." Right here http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=obxpgVmm9JI#t=162s on the left. Same color scheme, same hairstyle. Am I right? Also, there seems to be lots of new BG ponies in general this episode.
1>There are some scenes in this episode which are going to get edited to be so lewd. I eagerly await it. 2> Zecora plot. Also, OMG ZECORA IS BACK AND HAS A BED IN HER HUT. ZEBRA MAGICS. 3> Is the Want it Need it spell related to that Heart's Desire plant? 4> It feels like Pinkie Pie is having all of her negative aspects hammered to the moon and back this season. She may be my bestpony of Season 1, but if things continue this way for this season, I will have a hard time continuing to adore her. 5> Obligatory balloons comment: YAY, PARTY SCENE! 5b> Apple Bloom is Best Pony. Seriously. That was epic level adorable.
Wow and here I was thinking I was the only one that read the mass of comments... and all the opinions everyone writes.
@Killsteal_wolf 9:06 AM
Yes we're all aware that stealing from Fluttershy will incur horrible staring from her empressness. She will also sic her army of animals on you, then have a manticore gobble you up in a big tasty stew.
It was great to see more Zecora and Applebloom, and Twilight with Rarity mane's was really funny XD. Overall this was another great episode to me. And is it just me or is Applebloom full of potential meme lines? First it was 'One...Day' and now it's 'Help me'.
Is it me or does Scootaloo have a new voice actress? I've heard people comment that the VA's voice was changing, which would explain it too.
If the episode spent half the time showcasing Applebloom's emotional struggle with her decision as it did spotlighting the zany manifestations we could be looking at top tier CMC episode.
@Astrophel Agonistes From what I understand, the CMC all have actual children for VA's so I figure they're just starting to hit puberty, and thus their voices are subject to change some.
this episode gave way to a lot of possibilities of fan fics 1. hearts desire- that plant will be in shipping, i guarantee it 2. Multiple cutie marks- i can see someone do some kind of fic where a pony has more than one cutie mark 3. a lot of new fan comics- come on, this episode gave a whole bunch of new ideas for fan character comics
well that's all i got to say for now, until i think of more things to say
I hate to say this, but I think this was the weakest episode so far this season. And this is coming from someone who likes the CMC as main characters in an episode. Everything just felt pretty average when compared to other episodes of this same season.
The humor was alright with some funny moments (French Applebloom FTW) and the plot was interesting enough to carry an episode (Just barely). However, it's nowhere near the level of Lesson Zero (For humor) and Sisterhooves Social (For drama and character interaction). This whole episode felt like a filler to me. I'll elaborate more on this later.
Plus, this is probably THE first time in the show's history where I felt that the pacing was too slow. It took us two thirds of an episode to reach the big problem of the day instead of the usual one third. That second third simply dragged on with Applebloom showing off to her classmates. I was hoping to see other reactions of the mane six and maybe some drama b/w the CMC about their friendship now that Applebloom has gotten her cutie mark. But nope, the writers felt that showboating Applebloom was the way to go.
And of course the last third. Although it was humorous and well paced, I felt that nothing really got accomplished. After Applebloom delivered her friendship lesson, she went back to being her usual self. Why? Where's the character growth? And with that, the episode ends and I feel like nothing important happened. This is why I felt like this episode was filler. It never tried to be a humorous episode. It never tried to be serious and develop character. It didn't introduce anybody new. It really wasn't anything remarkable.
yeah, I thought it was dinky at first, since dinky was in that scene a lot too, but then I way filly derpy and they are definately two different background characters. Derpy's almost exactly at 8:00.
Actually not quite sure it beats Luna Eclipsed (I'll need some time to reflect on that), but it definitely beats Lesson Zero and Sisterhooves Social by a landslide.
Thanks to everyone who pointed out the wall-eyed filly was clearly Derpy's mini-me (lol). Someone in the production team is having so much fun from this!
However, one other thing I noticed while rewatching (and apologies if I'm not the first to observe this), is that the statue Applebloom spontaneously carves is a ponified representation for Botticelli's famed painting 'the Birth of Venus', complete with seashell and coy positioning of hands/hooves and hair/mane. I could go into further details of the various metaphors, but it might get a little risque in the event of any children reading this.
Cutie Mark Crusader Classical Art Appreciation Yay!
@ZeusAssassin They will continue to illustrate the CMC, but they're not going to do any development that would make them stop searching for their Cutie Marks. That would instantly end a lot of the purpose of the CMC as a group to drive a story forward together. If you give one a cutie mark, then you still change the dynamic as a group.
But. It kinda also brushes off the idea that the CMC would quarrel if one got their mark in advance of the others, as noone was really worried about it. So I guess in a way that could count as a negation of possibility.
Anyway. I think it's visually a pretty nice ride with a ton of cute without invoking a crisis, and it does a bit of worldbuilding. (Zebra potions are straight-on magic like most other things in Equestria.) Dunno if I really feel comfortable ranking episode in any tiers other than "How much X likes it" though, because of how many ways they take focus and casting. It makes for different flavors.
Easily the best CMC episode. Pacing was good plenty of visual gags. But not the best of the season. I'm not saying the episode was terrible but just a a little boring. Though I am pleased with more Zecora and AJ screentime.
I do occasionally. But only when I want to hear from the community at large.
I'm almost shocked that people thought that this could approach Lesson Zero. It had a checklist of things the community likes (e.g., Zecora, pop culture references,) but at the end of the day, it was an episode where the protagonist gets sick from lying, does wacky things for 15 minutes, and gets better by telling the truth.
Not that I expect overly complex plots from FiM, and I liked the continuity and nods to other episodes (e.g., Being a lion tamer and a chimney sweep from The Stare Master,) but the episode kinda bored me.
I just cracked up at how the majority of the cutie marks AppleBloom got in this episode were all the things she and the CMC were talking about in some manner in Call of the Cutie, Stare Master, and some of The Cutie Mark Chronicles.
What's that Aesop about being careful what you wish for...
Highlights of episode: 1. More background pony models 2. Zecora 3. Holy crap, is that a COLT in Apple Bloom's class? 4. Twarity 5. Pinkie Pie ate 6 cakes. That's as many as two threes, and that's terrible!
Well there's the thing. I wasn't expecting a CMC to earn a cutie mark this ep, but I DID expect the CMC to develop more as a close group of friends when an improbable situation happened.
So, as you pointed out, I agree that this episode developed Ponyville more with an introduction of a bowling alley, LOTS of new/cool-looking BG ponies, and of course, the the CMC's class. However, it's a shame that an episode surrounding the CMC develops Zecora as a character more than the CMC.
And I don't know about you, but I'm not convinced that Applebloom will not try and cheat her way to getting a cutie mark again. If that were to happen, this episode will have become a complete waste of time. Thus, it becomes filler, something I loath in most cartoons especially when they are not funny.
thinking about it I wish this episode had some fanon distruction, cause laughing at fantards who hold fan fics and stuff over the actual show and get butt hurt when fanon is jossed is always fun.
as for why AB and the CMC don't really learn anything, that's kind of the joke guys.
When there's a spectacle to see ponies watch with glee, but when danger's in sight they all take flight. Only the Elements stay fast as does Zecora and solve the problem with a fresh growth of flora.
@Killsteal_Wolf Yes, one pony did make the link to Geri's Game with the pony chess game sequence, although they were a bit vague, something along the lines of "that animated short before a Pixar main feature". You are not alone. 8^)

Pinkie Killed it for me, she is too much.
ReplyDeleteLoved the episode <3 And the first one i managed to get on the stream to watch!
ReplyDeleteWelp I learned that Pinkie has issues. (She couldn't tell the truth about her eating habits.)
ReplyDeleteApple Bloom and her friends haven't learned their lesson.
Zecora has seen some pretty neat stuff.
Also Fan Fiction writers like me will probably jump on the Hearts Desire flower and run it into the ground when it comes to shipping...
Did I really just put that in peoples minds... really...
Magnifique!
ReplyDeleteDid anypony notice the picture of two farmer ponies in Applejack's house? Their parents maybe?
ReplyDeleteI was satisfied. Good moral, good characters interaction, great overall episode.
ReplyDeleteThat in mind, Sisterhood Social is still my fav ep.
Now, please don't go on about the lack of Luna or the lack of a song. Both will come in time.
You know what these radiation suits mean, right?
ReplyDeleteFallout: Equestria is now, arguably, canon.
That was a very cool episode, but was it jsut me or was there a filly derpy?
ReplyDeleteBTW The part with the flower sisters and Spike was my favorite part of the episode!
ReplyDeleteThat was hilarious. I loved the use of Zecora for it, I'm sure glad she's finding her way into more of the show.
ReplyDeleteThat was an AWESOME Episode! season two you dont dissapoint!
ReplyDeleteCool. I just finished watching it on TV. Yay! I'm contributing
ReplyDeleteWow, is it just me, or did Zecora sound awfully resigned to her fate as an outcast near the end?
ReplyDeleteThat Applebloom's a Spy!

ReplyDeleteSuper cool episode! I love that Zecora gets some real screen time and some awesome powers.
ReplyDeleteAlso, ponies in Hazmat Suits=best ponies
Good episode for visual gags... not so good for storyline. You could see just about everything coming from the end of the scene at Zecora's hut.
ReplyDeleteFirst thumbs down of the season, but at least it's only a small thumbs down.
Zecora just dipped.
ReplyDeleteTheir getting better, alot more like Lauren's work, which is great!
ReplyDeleteMY ZEBRA SENSE IS TINGLING.
ReplyDeleteSacrebleu! That was oh-so-awesome! Yeeehaa!
ReplyDeleteI'm grateful for people who host these streams but they have got to either keep the chat through the WHOLE episode or not have a chat at all.
ReplyDeleteIt is infuriating when halfway during the show you disable chat. Chat is one of the main reasons I watch it live, for the Brony reaction.
@WWRDD?
ReplyDeleteTrue, bur Big Macintosh needs more to say except "eyup" and "nope"!
The Pony abides. Walter Sobtrot. Rarity Sparkle. So much greatness! Now... back to skyrim.
ReplyDeleteThree cheers for more Zecora and Applejack!
ReplyDeleteAlso, did Big Mac sound different to anyone else?
One Ring, then get them all
ReplyDeleteSo no Fluttershy? She better be getting one of the next episodes then (I try to avoid spoilers of upcoming eps so forgive me if we know she is). Also, Twilightish haired Rarity and Rarityish haired Twilight make me HNNNNNNG.
ReplyDeletei almost freaked when applebloom walked into the everfree forest alone "it's the story of the blanks all over again!".
ReplyDelete@MyBoyJ
ReplyDeleteThat's a parody of that "American Gothic" painting!
I see what you mean with more visual gags then story line, but it was needed. alot of seriuos episodes so far this sesson, that a bit of light hearted fun is what was needed
ReplyDeleteI'm the only one who felt this episode was VERY short? :L
ReplyDeleteWonder what AppleBloom was saying in French
ReplyDeleteGREAT EPISODE
ReplyDeleteBut..
Season 2 needs for Fluttershy
I hate this episode!!!!
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else notice that Dinky was derped!?
ReplyDeleteI gotta admit I was very happily surprised by that ep. Not only was it alot better then I figured it would be...but it had alot of Zecora which is always a plus.

ReplyDeleteTonight's or tomorrows draw friend i can see having a lot of spider zecora.
New meme everypony.
That was a really good episode. not the best of season 2. i think the still EP 3. but still good.
ReplyDeleteYou're out of your fucking element Applebloom!
ReplyDeleteWill the CMC ever get their cutie marks this season?
ReplyDeleteBatcora is best pony.
ReplyDeleteSo much goodness here. Applebloom, epic burns, Zecora, hazmat ponies, potion-making, French - definitely Lesson Zero-tier. :-D
ReplyDeleteWe need some pony to make a hazmat pony banner for Seth!!!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha, that episode was great. I lost it when Applebloom starting speaking French though. Lol
ReplyDeleteSeems like their doing a lot more lil animation tricks this time around. More poses, angles, and lil tricks.
ReplyDeleteDinky derped again.
And well, Spike is a dirty two timer. The only the he obviously cares about is manes!
Wait....at around the one minute mark where Scootaloo kicks the bowling ball and it nearly hits those three guys....is that.....weird al in the middle?
ReplyDeleteI think it was klstixbro
ReplyDelete"were your zebra senses tinglin?"
ReplyDeleteand then applejack stereotyped
@RBDasher11
ReplyDeleteYeah, and I love that they keep bringing in references like that.
Also, possible confirmation of Apple parents!
So many new memes! Spike loves Twilight, Vinyl Scratch fencing, "help me" *shocked face*......and Equis is now cannon.
ReplyDeleteSacrebleu, c'est un poney français! Is that the first time a pony has spoken anything but English?
ReplyDelete@Feral
ReplyDeleteThat sudden disappearance was hilarious.
French is a fancy language.
ReplyDeleteQuick everypony DOUBLE CHECK.
ReplyDeleteIn keeping with most episodes that focus on the CMC's desire to obtain a Cutie Mark, "The Cutie Pox" is fun enough but nothing special. Grade: B-
That derpy-eyed filly WAS derpy!
ReplyDeletetook a cell-phone pic during break, it's hard to tell but it's definitely a pegasus and it definitely has the same color/mane scheme as derpy
http://i.imgur.com/ChxEB.jpg
also it was only in that one three second clip, and nowhere else in the scene.
Was it jsut me or did anyone else think of John of ark [no idea if that was spelt right]
ReplyDelete@kylock
ReplyDeleteMY JEWISH SENSE IS TINGLING!
It tells me not to eat those pork rinds.
I liked that Zecora, Twist, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon had speaking roles again; loves me some continuity
ReplyDelete@kylock
ReplyDeleteBringing out the racist card? xD
Dear Princess Celestia,
ReplyDeleteP.S.
Your faithful subject,
Applebloom
Can't wait. Every fiber of my being is ready.
ReplyDeleteSacrebleu!
ReplyDeleteMulti-multi-multi-multi-...talented Applebloom!
ReplyDeleteAlso Zecora awesomeness.
And now the CMC has to do friendship reports. Wonder what they did to cause Celestia to make them friendship reports.
Great episode!
Alright, now next week is Rainbow Dash heavy episode, So Awesome, cant wait.
ReplyDelete@Rainbow Dash
ReplyDeleteWell, Fluttershy mentioned French haute couture in Suited For Success and said a few French words pertaining to fashion design.
@Killah
ReplyDeleteTime travel is now cannon (sorry I had to)
this was a good episode. I don't see why it isn't.
ReplyDeleteThat was bloody fantastic!
ReplyDeleteIm not going to wait up for rainbow dash, shes cool but meh rather have a BG pony episode focusing on tavi, flower trio or somthing
ReplyDeleteNo fluttershy. Sigh. But I LOVE season 3's use of Zecora. And YAY! Background ponies had much dialogue.
ReplyDeleteStill nothing on Youtube or Ponyarchive... *sigh* Wish I still had cable.
ReplyDeleteall i could think of was that picture of applebloom as old as granny smith and with a blank flank
ReplyDelete@IWearHatsIndoors
ReplyDelete*canon whatever :(
@Lightning Crash
ReplyDeleteYOU FOOL! BE QUIET, OR YOU'LL CREATE A TIME PARADOX!
I SAW A FILLY DERPY HOOVES!
ReplyDeleteBig Lebowski ponies, filly derpy, Zebra senses... Pretty great episode!
ReplyDeleteWhoops. Meant season 2.
ReplyDeleteAnd then Applebloom became Mike Dawson's worst enemy.
ReplyDeleteShe succeeded at ring tossing.
SACREBLEU! THAT EPISODE WAS MAGNIFIQUE!
ReplyDeleteThis was a hilarious episode. I couldn't stop laughing, except for when AB chipped her tooth. I think that's the first time we've seen a pony in real pain. Weird.
Just so much of that episode I want to bring up, but I can't remember it all. WHY CAN'T I HOLD ALL THIS AWESOME?! XD
Gonna go watch it again...
Okay, so France (Prance?) is now def a canon place in equestria... and pretty good episode! And were those AJ parents on the wall?!
ReplyDeleteAnd also... fucking give big mac lines!!! you did it before! do it again! stop making him a gag! he is the only male other than braeburn and arguably the doctor with speaking lines! LET. HIM. SPEAK. No more Eeyups and Nnnopes!
"Oh no, she's speaking fancy!"
ReplyDeleteAlso, Zecora is amazing as per usual. Not the most surprising episode so far, but still really fun!
...though I wish the CMC had ACTUALLY learned something. XP Silly undeveloping fillies.
No one's gonna mention how AJ actually called Big Mac "Big Mac"? Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm not), but I do believe that's the first time that nickname has ever actually been used on the show.

ReplyDeleteLI'L DERPY?
No one filly should have all that talent.
ReplyDeleteAlso did anyone get the joke about clopping?
OMG DERPY AS A FILLY!!!!
ReplyDelete@Radimir
ReplyDeleteEvery FoE artist is gonna pounce on those screencaps. XD
(And best pacing so far this season. I approve!
That was WAY better than I expected :D
ReplyDeleteAnd Spike in love with Twilight's mane... I died of laughter
@GaruuSpike THAT IS DERPYS DAUGHTER NOW, SO HAS DECREED THE INTERNET
ReplyDeleteto be honest I don't like the filly derpy.
ReplyDeleteCome on, computer! Get with it!
ReplyDelete@Floof Cat I think we all knew she'd get multiple cutie marks, but I at least didn't predict that she'd be forced to act on all of them.
ReplyDeleteNo one's commented on the obvious thing about the episode's opening, by the way.
ReplyDeleteWhy do the bowling balls have three holes?
So, Dinky had 'derped' eyes when Applebloom was doing her loop-de-loop.
ReplyDeleteDinky being Derpy's daughter, officially canon.
Becuase like trench coats ponies haven't changed the desine from when they took over earth?
ReplyDeleteI just saw soarin eat apple pie again!
ReplyDeleteThat was another wonderful episode, between Zecora's 'Zebra Sense', the Ponyville Bowling Alley (owned by 'Kingpin') and the Hazmat ponies, and so much aborable Applebloom!
ReplyDeleteYou know, Lauren was right, the CMC do have the strengths to carry their own spin-off!

@goldenCapitalist
ReplyDeleteNo it isn't. It's just Derpy. She got in the wrong end of the Tardis again, that's all.
The Doctor will have it all sorted out by the next episode don't worry.
The trots? Honestly? That's disgusting.
ReplyDelete@Spikely Whiplash
ReplyDeleteHaha, good question.
Apple Bloom is NASCAR filly.
ReplyDeleteA Big Lebowski reference!? Hey you, the animator responsible for that, you are awesome!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Jesus is best pony.
@TB3
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't Dinky, unless Dinky shed her horn for some pegasus wings too :)
@daBomb619
ReplyDeleteHey, it could mean something completely different in Equestria.
I don't think that filly derpy will catch on.
ReplyDeleteits to much of a ingrained fannon that Dinky is Derpys daughter
Oh, one little observation - when Twilight checks the book of ailments, she notes 'The Trots', which here in Britain is slang for diarrhea!
ReplyDeleteMLP, now with scat humor!
Was the chess-playing pony supposed to resemble anyone in particular?
ReplyDeleteThe old guy from the pixar short films they play befor the feature films
ReplyDeleteAbout the filly derpy, uh.... :D
ReplyDeleteI believe that Derpy is married to Dr. Whooves. As such, that could have led to a time rift in which Derpy as a child came to the present and is now attending school. We just need to make sure the two never meet, otherwise TIME PARADOX
@Bat3man "Nopony bucks with the Jesus."
ReplyDelete@Vulcan539
ReplyDeleteThat was the first thing I thought when I saw him, too.
call me crazy, but i think i saw a cameo from the main cast of The Big Lebowski.
ReplyDeleteAlso, i swear to CELESTIA i saw Jesus from The Big Lebowski too!
You can always count on the citizens of Ponyville to panic on cue and where did those lions come from? -Q.
ReplyDelete@Vulcan539 I don't think so; this guy had an orange shirt.
ReplyDeleteffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
ReplyDeletei want see the episode now ;___;
hmmmm well thats what I thought when I saw him *shrug*
ReplyDeleteT-minus how long until we get more pics of Twilight sporting Rarity's hairstyle?
ReplyDeleteFunny episode, but not quite as awesome as the past three have been. I do appreciate the new animation techniques they're trying out, though.
That might've even topped Lesson Zero.
ReplyDeleteI NOW KNOW WHAT DERPY'S CUTIE MARK MEANS! I also know that Derpy was alive in the paleo-pony period.
ReplyDeleteShe's obviously a snorkler pony!
Who bothers to read all these comments anyway?
Ponies in hazmat suits, lol; reminds me of that movie I saw a while ago, Contagion.
ReplyDeleteThis was the best episode yet! If only for the Big Lebowski reference!
ReplyDeleteAt the twenty seven minute mark: a radiation pony takes off her mask to reveal a pony with white skin, blue eyes, and carrot top's hair, wat.
ReplyDelete@Colt Classic haha That's exactly what I was thinking.
ReplyDeleteThe episodes keep getting better and better. And now:
ReplyDeleteTwilight Sparkle = Rarity
Zecora = Spiderman
Her name is cauliflower, called it.
ReplyDelete@Dshadows
ReplyDelete-_- i do
yay I'm not the only one :D
ReplyDeleteAnd the Moral of the episode is, don't steal stuff from Evil Enchantresses.
ReplyDeleteSeems like Ponies have perfect health care. Also I believe Dinky had Derp eyes. Poor Big Mac needs to expand his vocabulary though.
Oh yeah, and Zecora is Batman now. Or Spiderman... basically this universes super pony I guess (Until the Masked Mare comes along).
Also, Pony Bowling is adorable. Now I demand to see Pony Skiing.
@D. Shadows Me.
ReplyDeleteOverall, it's a pretty good episode. Not amazing, but still entertaining and enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteThe first was rather "meh" for me, with most of the jokes, while not falling flat, just didn't have me laughing.
5/10
Lots of fun in this episode for sure. Think my favorite part was when Applebloom turned into Frenchbloom. Sacrebleu! <3
ReplyDeleteSeems a lot of people also liked the Big Lebowski reference, the hazmat suits, Derpy/Dinky appearances, and a bunch of other stuff people are trying to pick apart now.
Sometimes the comments here are almost as funny the as the episodes. x3
Uhhh...not just Derpy as a filly...but it looked like a colt Soarin' and a filly Spitfire flashed by too...
ReplyDeleteTo all who think that it is Dinky who has Derpy eyes:
ReplyDeleteI just rewatched the clip on YouTube. It is not Dinky. The pony derping does NOT have a horn, but instead has wings. It really is a mini-Derpy Hooves. OR her daughter.
Zecora is best dentist.
ReplyDelete@Bloodfaceyea it was /)(\
ReplyDeleteIt is a filly derpy and to be honest I don't like it.
ReplyDeleteTho I didn't notice the wonderbolts?
For those complaining about Big Mac, its not like he got a lot of lines in Season 1...
ReplyDeleteAlso we now know what colgates CM spell is lol
ReplyDeletebig lebowski pony is best bg pony http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/4948/blpony.png
ReplyDelete@Trilobiteer
ReplyDeleteYeah, the lack of Fluttershy this season is beginning to disappoint me.
That being said, the episode was good, but my favorite so far is still Luna Eclipsed.
Wait. French. The French eat horse meat. Two and two....
ReplyDeleteOH DEAR CELESTIA MLP FRENCH PEOPLE ARE CANNIBALS!
ReplyDeleteWHERE'S FLUTTERSHY? D:
why no Fluttershy :(
ReplyDelete1>There are some scenes in this episode which are going to get edited to be so lewd. I eagerly await it.
ReplyDelete2> Zecora plot.
ReplyDelete@Killsteal_wolf 9:06 AM
Yes we're all aware that stealing from Fluttershy will incur horrible staring from her empressness. She will also sic her army of animals on you, then have a manticore gobble you up in a big tasty stew.
How are people thinking the Derp eyed filly was Dinky? She had Derpy's colors and was a pegasus.
ReplyDeleteJust a newly introduced Derpy Hooves filly playing Waldo games with us.
@Mithzan A filly take on Derpy?! *Le Gasp* Is this Derpy's younger sister?!
ReplyDeleteI just finished watching the youtube version, and mother of god! The vast majority of background ponies are fanon!
ReplyDeleteI also hope "She's speakin' fancy!" becomes a meme too.
It was great to see more Zecora and Applebloom, and Twilight with Rarity mane's was really funny XD. Overall this was another great episode to me. And is it just me or is Applebloom full of potential meme lines? First it was 'One...Day' and now it's 'Help me'.
ReplyDeleteawesome episode
ReplyDeleteUhoh...I just noticed another animation error. =\
ReplyDeleteIn the derpy filly scene, Twist is apparently a blank flank.
Is it me or does Scootaloo have a new voice actress? I've heard people comment that the VA's voice was changing, which would explain it too.
ReplyDeleteIf the episode spent half the time showcasing Applebloom's emotional struggle with her decision as it did spotlighting the zany manifestations we could be looking at top tier CMC episode.
As it stands, Lebowski Ponies justify everything.
@Xplayer
ReplyDeleteThat's actually just Rose. She was in season 1 as well, before the Fausticorn was a thing.
Did anyone else notice that Applejack called Big Macintosh "Big Mac" not once but twice?
ReplyDelete@LcplBronyUSMC
ReplyDeleteOr, conversely, her CM was on the other side.
@Astrophel Agonistes
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand, the CMC all have actual children for VA's so I figure they're just starting to hit puberty, and thus their voices are subject to change some.
this episode gave way to a lot of possibilities of fan fics
ReplyDelete1. hearts desire- that plant will be in shipping, i guarantee it
2. Multiple cutie marks- i can see someone do some kind of fic where a pony has more than one cutie mark
3. a lot of new fan comics- come on, this episode gave a whole bunch of new ideas for fan character comics
well that's all i got to say for now, until i think of more things to say
I hate to say this, but I think this was the weakest episode so far this season. And this is coming from someone who likes the CMC as main characters in an episode. Everything just felt pretty average when compared to other episodes of this same season.
ReplyDeleteThe humor was alright with some funny moments (French Applebloom FTW) and the plot was interesting enough to carry an episode (Just barely).
I give this episode a C overall.
Two full episodes without Fluttershy?
ReplyDeleteWHY?!
@KaotixFUSIndeed, I mentioned it earlier. Why are more people not jumping on this?
ReplyDeleteAlso, not pony related, but when the hell did EqD start requiring captchas for comments? This is getting really annoying.
@metaXzero
ReplyDeleteyeah, I thought it was dinky at first, since dinky was in that scene a lot too, but then I way filly derpy and they are definately two different background characters. Derpy's almost exactly at 8:00.
Despite having a ridiculously fast computer, this sure does take a while to render. I hope y'all are more patient than Applebloom!
ReplyDeleteROSELUCK!!!
ReplyDeleteROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK ROSELUCK!!!
So I saw a Derpy filly... this is either ANOTHER daughter or maybe fanon fuel for DerpyxTheDoctor
ReplyDeleteThis Dinky vs Derpy debate is kinda funny to watch people arguing over. :P
ReplyDeleteOMG! I can't believe they put in My Little CDC ponies!
ReplyDelete@XyroTR1 But I want it NOOOOOOWWWWWWW!!!
ReplyDeleteBut srsly, keep us updated on the status! XD
This is going to be interesting. Derpy and Dinky is probably going to be a running argument the whole season.
ReplyDelete*grabs popcorn*
@XyroTR1
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance for the upload, you rock!
First impressions:
ReplyDeleteBest one since Return of Harmony.
Actually not quite sure it beats Luna Eclipsed (I'll need some time to reflect on that), but it definitely beats Lesson Zero and Sisterhooves Social by a landslide.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XoE5wjydsQ
ReplyDeletesingle part 480p hope you like :)
i waaaaaant a song
ReplyDeletey there no song??? 8(
Background pony reporting in : http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jeezus-Pony/145958792171453
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone who pointed out the wall-eyed filly was clearly Derpy's mini-me (lol). Someone in the production team is having so much fun from this!
ReplyDeleteHowever, one other thing I noticed while rewatching (and apologies if I'm not the first to observe this), is that the statue Applebloom spontaneously carves is a ponified representation for Botticelli's famed painting 'the Birth of Venus', complete with seashell and coy positioning of hands/hooves and hair/mane. I could go into further details of the various metaphors, but it might get a little risque in the event of any children reading this.
Cutie Mark Crusader Classical Art Appreciation Yay!
@XyroTR1 Rock!... *ahem* I mean trot on XyroTR1!
ReplyDelete@TheSharp0ne
ReplyDeleteWill do! :D
And as soon as it's up, EqD will have it listed up top. In ONE part. Screw this multi-part business. ;)
@DcmRulz
ReplyDeleteYou're so welcome! :D
@frith
ReplyDelete*brohoof*
;)
Loved this episode. Not just saying that because Roseluck appeared again. YAAAAAAAaa
ReplyDeleteGreat episode! Applebloom-tornado of talents cracked me up-and Twilight with Rarity hair and spike's epic reaction. XD
ReplyDelete@ZeusAssassin
ReplyDeleteThey will continue to illustrate the CMC, but they're not going to do any development that would make them stop searching for their Cutie Marks.
@Spikely Whiplash
ReplyDeleteI thought she was making a joke about that, since she was obviously a part of the town in "Luna Eclipsed".
Easily the best CMC episode. Pacing was good plenty of visual gags. But not the best of the season. I'm not saying the episode was terrible but just a a little boring. Though I am pleased with more Zecora and AJ screentime.
ReplyDeletePony emergency services: first cause of action: run and hide in fear!
ReplyDeleteI thought it was ok.
ReplyDeleteThis season desperatley needs more Pinkie, Rainbow and Fluttershy: the heart of the order.
So, Zecora, mistress of potions, is Snape with all the isolation and rejection complex but with a sunny disposition.
ReplyDelete@D. Shadows
ReplyDelete"Who bothers to read all these comments anyway?"
Zecora is best side character.
ReplyDeletethat is all.
great episode, S2 hasn't disappointed me so far.
I don't really like CMC but heck, that episode was great!
ReplyDeleteI just cracked up at how the majority of the cutie marks AppleBloom got in this episode were all the things she and the CMC were talking about in some manner in Call of the Cutie, Stare Master, and some of The Cutie Mark Chronicles.
ReplyDeleteWhat's that Aesop about being careful what you wish for...
Highlights of episode:
ReplyDelete1. More background pony models
2. Zecora
3. Holy crap, is that a COLT in Apple Bloom's class?
4. Twarity
5. Pinkie Pie ate 6 cakes. That's as many as two threes, and that's terrible!
I really liked that episode.
ReplyDeleteNot my favorite of the season, but good enough to make a smile super glue to my face!
Big Lebowski ponies for the win!
Also hazmat ponies, and MOAR ZECORA!
not to mention more bg ponies talking in general.
So yeah, This was a good episode for multiple reasons.
No one picked up in the Geri's Game reference in the episdode? I thought everyone loves Pixar films, someone should have noticed it.
ReplyDelete@Retl
ReplyDeleteWell there's the thing.
ReplyDeleteas for why AB and the CMC don't really learn anything, that's kind of the joke guys.
When there's a spectacle to see ponies watch with glee, but when danger's in sight they all take flight. Only the Elements stay fast as does Zecora and solve the problem with a fresh growth of flora.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone else besides me noticed that Fluttershy wasn't in this episode?
ReplyDeleteBut this episode was actually pretty cool x3
@Killsteal_Wolf Yes, one pony did make the link to Geri's Game with the pony chess game sequence, although they were a bit vague, something along the lines of "that animated short before a Pixar main feature". You are not alone. 8^)
ReplyDelete
