Uh oh, this episode is going to completely slaughter 70% of the fanon out there. Not even Luna can match the potential disintegration of all things pony history.
Once again, the source is Zap2it. There is something a bit off about this addition though. The episode actually shows up as the 13th in line. So far, they has been 100% accurate about everything. Maybe it's a typo?
Regardless, have a Synopsis/Air Date after the break!

o_o Backstory episode. Yay. Yayayayayayayayayayayayayayayay. Give it to me! I must feast on its delicious lore!
ReplyDelete@MizuTakishima
ReplyDeleteThe founding fathers of Equestria were the unicorns that went on Noah's Ark. After the Flood, they were like, "Screw this universe. Humans suck!" And they opened a dimensional vortex and entered the world that would become Equestria! (God helped too. Cuz he also knows how much humans suck. He was all like, "Yeah... I know... ok, how's about I give you your own world?") ;3
I'm hoping that this is episode 13, giving us two bonus episodes to see sometime before it to make up for skipped weeks.
ReplyDeletePerhaps a two-parter? Maybe something with Pinkie? She's been sorta off ever since all of that chocolate milk... maybe it's had some effect on her.
Look, it's just a winter holiday, and doesn't HAVE to have religious roots. It could just be a cultural holiday, like the Independence Days of various countries. The only reason the bulk of the holidays in the United States have religious connotations rather than purely cultural ones is that the immigrant colonists who took over the country were religious types.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they're not trying to make it "it's like Christmas BUT" and focused more on making it its own thing. As a Christian myself, I am really interested to see what they do. At least it doesn't seem like it's going to be gift-giving commercialist tripe or try and put Santa Claus in Equestria. That would make me gag.
Also, it would be interesting to get some confirmation that the Princesses are in fact goddesses, as everyone seems to assume they are. (Granted, they're ageless and wield powerful magic, but that doesn't necessarily make them deities.)
and that's how equestia was made?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely episode 13, being aired early (as per Nayuki).
ReplyDeletePossibly controversial episode? Sounds like a job for Dave Polsky. Can't wait.
Slaughter the fannon, Oh god the Jedi are gonna feel this one!
ReplyDeleteI for one can't wait to see an origin story of this world.
ReplyDeleteI must admit, sadly, I will be thinking about all of the fanon that will be shattered at the end of this.
@Alondro
ReplyDelete(Regarding the founding unicorns and God helping them to a new world)
Hahahaha. . .Wait. . .
Seriously; bronies need to calm down. So we're getting a look into what probably happened in the far passed, big friggin' deal; this will not destroy any fanon. It may damage it some, since people love to speculate as Glaivester said on the bottom of the first page, but that's nothing new to us.
ReplyDeleteCanon!Luna damaged the fanon, we adapted; those blind bag ponies damaged it, we adapted; the worst this can do is damage us, and we will adapt when it does. It's what we do, it's what we've always done. Look at this as a new opportunity for information; something that we can use to make better fanfics, better fan art, just have a better grasp on how Equestria and the ponies in it operate.
Bring on this episode, I say; and let us see what we can learn yet.
All I know that this scraps the "origin fic" I was working on...;_;
ReplyDelete...and makes way for all the "more detailed insight fic" I will write based off this epi, because it's gonna be totally awesome. xD
@Jason "Njiska" Westhaver
ReplyDeleteIf they don't do this, there is no justice in the world.
@Ronan
ReplyDeletePerhaps so, but in all honesty, it would vary. I don't think we can consider them deities because they can move the sun & the moon. We'd need more than just that. But as for them possibly being "mortal" deities, that would in most ways make them less deities and again, just really VERY powerful mortals, which is what I'm getting at.
But, again, hardly matters.
Since this episode sounds like it might have a Christmas feel to it, I'm gonna guess that the 13th episode IS a typo. Cause if it isn't then the episode would air on the 27th, and it'd be a bit weird to have a Christmas type episode two days after Christmas, wouldn't it?
ReplyDeleteWait... Isn't this the theme for the Twilight Sparkle Story app for the iOS?
ReplyDeleteFinally. It was a while since I saw a great MLP christmas episode which was the Very Minty Christmas. Anyway I'm so looking foward to learn more about how ponies will celebrating Christmas or Hearth's Warming Eve as they call it there.
ReplyDeleteI hope there will be a great song in it.
The chaos is gonna be hilarious. I love this season!
ReplyDelete@Glaivester
ReplyDeleteI think religious folk themselves wouldn't want a particularly religious episode. Because this won't be Jesus and God and all the rest, but Celestia, Luna, etc.
But really, this is a land of magical marshmallow ponies. Getting in huffy over there being some religiosity is kinda silly, particularly as the religiosity in question at best gives a shout-out to any real-world religions (and most of the RL religions it so far gives a shout of to are the older ones that aren't really in vogue these days).
All hail pony-Jesus!
ReplyDeleteNO!! Paradise! My favorite and unfinished fan-fic! It will be destroyed, decimated, NOOOOOOOOO!
ReplyDeleteBut it will be fun to see. This is a children's cartoon after all. We can't expect them to have complex backstories that will satisfy the more mature audience.
... How in Equestria did I manage to miss this entire post as I went about my online business all day?? I mean, I know I'm frequently distracted when I'm online because I'm doing so many things on and off the computer at once, but still...
ReplyDelete@Harwick
I'll be honest, before I read your comment and some of the rest I'd never even heard of that app before, but I find that to be extremely interesting. Whether that's the backstory we shall get in this episode or not (I'm thinking, and really quite hoping that it is), I'm very much looking forward to this one.
"BURN, FANFICS! BURRRRRRRRRN!!!! *maniacal laughter*"
ReplyDelete-Jayson Thiessen
You guise.
ReplyDeleteThis is probably going to be FULL of songs...
Hmmm, a X-mas/Thanksgiving themed eps. with backstory...should be fun, all we have to go on so far is that Discord ruled eons ago till the Princesses sealed him away. Then they ruled for an unknown amout of time till Luna when mad and got locked away for a thousand years.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be interesting to see what they use to fill in the blanks.
Cool, a backstory episode. I've wanted a "How Equestria was formed" episode for a while, so this is pretty exciting news.
ReplyDeleteAs for the fanon, those stories can always be chalked up as alternate interpretations. Canon is law, of course, but these kinds of stories can still be written. Sure, Paradise will be hit hard by this, but that doesn't mean it's ruined. It'll be interesting to see Slywit's interpretation compared to the show's, which is perfectly fine.
Discord made a few screws loose, but people adapted. I'm sure this will be the same way.
Hush! This isn't bad. Rainbow Dash not breaking her wings in Lesson Zero was bad. We survived that; we'll survive this.
ReplyDeletemabey the leaked song that everypony has heard might be in this episode as well
ReplyDelete@Pascoite
ReplyDeleteThey generally don't even look at fan-created material like fanfics. They may look at dA pictures and everything but Jayson Thiessen said that they don't want to accidentally take ideas or even get influenced in any way unintentionally so they try not to look at anything that may have a story in it.
BUT back on topic to the episode ... I'm excited. I, personally, love stuff like this and I can't wait to see what the history of Equesteria is. Or, at least, what the perceived history or Equesteria is.
And I still want a copy of Obscure Unicorn History, dammit.
So this is going to be a Celestia episode?
ReplyDelete>Uh oh, this episode is going to completely slaughter 70% of the fanon out there. Not even Luna can match the potential disintegration of all things pony history.
ReplyDeletethis is a good thing
Christmas time?
ReplyDeletePleasenotbereligious pleasenotbereligious.
Equestria, though, is a country, is it not? So explanations might be avoided.
@AK
ReplyDeleteUm, I don't think 99% of fanfiction even touches history. I don't think even 70% is going to be affected by whatever is revealed here.
@Sedaheht
Whoa there, nelly. You're reading a lot into the motivations behind that line about fanon; I don't think it was meant anywhere near as seriously as you're taking it. It's not a giant middle finger to anyone; it's a joke. Settle down.
I don't know if it's just me, but I've seen an awful lot more angry reactions to "fantards" than I've ever seen actual fantards. It just seems like some of you are looking for something to be angry about that just isn't there.
@Dream Seeker
There, that's what I'm trying to say. Glad I'm not alone here.
The only thing I've seen this fanon be unable to cope with is the use of a non-"pony" pronoun, and even then it usually gets over it.
ReplyDeleteEverybody'll get over it by next Tuesday at the absolute latest.
I do hope this doesn't kill all the fanon.
ReplyDeleteI mean, I remember people in the livestream I was in for the Luna ep yelling out "PAST SINS IS NOW CANON!" (Which I agreed with) as well as I saw potential beginnings for both the Naughty Naughty Luna and Looney Luna Tumblrs.
It kept some of the biggest fanon alive.
Here's hoping this does the same.
NUHHH!!!
ReplyDeleteMY FANON!!!
Keep Equestria's origins a mystery! Gah!
Should be good wile I like the fannon backstorys
ReplyDeleteIm keen to see what the cannon vertion is
I love the different names for holidays in Equestria. Summer Sun Celeberation, Nightmare Night and now Hearth's Warming Eve.
ReplyDeleteMore Equestian History? Alright!
ReplyDelete@Sedaheht Agreed.
I think that the whole episode will be a musicale. It makes sense since they are doing a play.
ReplyDeleteI doubt there will be any religious allusions or connotations to the play. I believe that Lauren had said she did not want Celestia being viewed as a deity.
Oh,the Fannon is Gonna BE SLAUGHTERED!
ReplyDeleteFOR THE GODS OF CANNON!
this makes me cry tears of joy.
I wish this fannon would go down. not the fics, just the whole shipping,Tyrant Celestia, Trollestia... it would me make squee whit joy.
It kinda feels like they're actually trying to destroy the fandom with this episode... and it's probably not even going to be that great of a story, I wouldn't excpect any parents to be made for Celestia and Luna... which kind of sucks.....
ReplyDelete@AlucardHellgate
ReplyDeleteDestroy the Fandom?
How can A christmas episode destroy a fandom?
you meant fannon, right?
Well, I suppose I'll wait until after this episode airs to start work on my own fic. No sense in trying to make sense of Equestria if they're gonna do it for me! ^_^
ReplyDelete@Full Metal Cupcake
ReplyDelete>Hush! This isn't bad. Rainbow Dash not breaking her wings in Lesson Zero was bad. We survived that; we'll survive this
And then Dash breaking her wing in May The Best Pet Win overturned that. I wonder how many fics were tossed out the window, and subsequently revived a few episodes later? Like the return of Luna, canon both destroyed and fortified fanon, with only minor inconsistencies left dangling in the wind. Expect the same thing with the upcoming episode Secret of My Excess, that has spike experiencing a growth spurt that threatens to destroy Ponyville.
Someone said musical..
ReplyDeleteAAAAAAWWWWW YYYEEEEEAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!
i like the way the rip off earths holidays and give them an another name
ReplyDeleteEARTH: STOP COPYING ME!!
EQUESTRIA: problem?
play? Christmas episode?
ReplyDeleteis this is going to be a MUSICAL episode?!
YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
Doesn't 'Confessions and Considerations' by BronyNeumo start with the mane six in a play...
ReplyDeleteI must admit that although I haven't read this fan fic, I've seen the blurb for it in the story updates section and it was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the synopsis!
I think the PLAY is the thing.
ReplyDeleteNo, really.
Everyone's focused on the background of the holiday, when they'll probably focus on the production of the pageant.
I think a bunch of people are getting bent out of shape over nothing.
Please have Luna in this episode, Even if she is only in the background, we need more Luna!
ReplyDeleteApplejack: "And then Jesus Christ forgave all the ponies for their sins, and that's the true meaning of Hearth's Warming Eve."
ReplyDeleteBronies: "...."
This episode will either be fantastic and make my heart weep tears of joy and Christmas-esque spirit... or the gates of Rage will open. Not by me. I'm pretty sure I'll love it regardless.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually excited for a potential Christmas-type episode coming out.
@melissaduck There, there..Wait..Why am I doing this?
ReplyDeleteWell, this need not TOTALLY destroy the fandom history. This is a pageant, and, while Luna and Celestia HAVE been around since the founding of Equestria (we are to believe) the kingdom of Equestria has existed for far more than 1000 years. Ergo, details and events may have been...forgotten...
ReplyDeleteI think the concern about an explicit Christian message is overblown. What's in it for Hasbro to take sides on religious matters?
ReplyDeleteHowever, I wouldn't be surprised at a subtle reference. Suppose the founding of Equestria is when Celestria starts living with the ponies. Those who celebrate Christmas religiously will enjoy the analogy to "God-with-us". Those that don't, get to enjoy an essentially political story. Everybody wins.
DARN IT! here i was, writing a story that took place at the "Winter Moon Celebration"! (I personally think it's historically closer to what Christmas started as- plus there should be balance to the Summer Sun Celebration)
ReplyDeleteI love Pinkie Pie!
ReplyDeleteSo *this* is how Equestria was made.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Fluttershy is going to be playing a tree.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, It's going to be interesting seeing how Equestria was made (Bonus points if Pinkie is the playwright)
...and that is how equestria was made.
ReplyDeleteEggsactly!
hey guys...what if they mean the birth of a NATION. not like, the entire fucking planet >_>
ReplyDeleteoh snap this is a day after my birthday, what a great present :D
ReplyDeleteyay we get to find out if pinkie was right about how Equestria was made.
ReplyDeleteThough this may be the 13th episode in the Season 2 production order, I'm still gonna consider this episode 11, because it will be the 11th Season 2 episode to air. I have nothing more to add other than "can't wait, gonna be awesome".
ReplyDeleteAlso, what's up with all the debates about religion going on here? We don't know anything about this episode yet other than its name, its synopsis, and that it's a Christmas episode. It's not even set to air for 13 more days. If you MUST argue about religion, might I suggest at least waiting until we know a little more?
ReplyDeleteWell, an episode which might give me some good backing for a fanfic I've been doing that's generally for fun. A Christmas special chapter.
ReplyDeleteThis episode is probably going to be like the fanfiction 'Paradise' in some ways. Like how the Pegasai, Unicorns, and Earth ponies don't exactly all get along back when Celestia and Luna were young.
ReplyDelete
