The French and Powerful Trixie!

Remember yesterday in the nightly roundup when I posted that Spanish Trixie?  Remember how "meh" it was?

Well over in France, they apparently went all out.  This Trixie glorious. Her obnoxiousness levels are reaching critical mass!

Have it after the break

Miss French Voice Actress is not getting angry enough.

Ranakel said...

Opinion from France: While indeed deliciously obnoxious, she does loses a bit of sultriness the original Trixie gets.

She still IS quite Trixiely Trixiesque.

Radimir said...

Trixie is basically the perfect French person: Thinks they're so great and lets everybody know about it, then surrenders at the first sign of aggression.

miauzi said...

Too bad I forgot how to speak french, but I understand it.
Ponies certainly are glorious in every language, but this voice ftw.

Basharoonskis said...

Eh... I don't really like the French dubs, they butcher the mane cast, only Rainbow Dash and Applejack sound decent. Oh! And Flutterguy, sweet Jesus, French Flutterguy is like liquid chocolate sex in my ears.

Yes, much like that.

Anyways, I prefer English Trixie. And Russian (if it exists) because everything sounds amazing in Russian.

Litchee said...

I must admit this is pretty good. The translation and tone are spot-on. And I usually hate French dubbing. [Insert Fluttershy "yay !"]

Litchee said...

(Oh, and thanks for that, Radimir. You just made the brony community sound like any other community, ever. Congratulations.)

Mon Dieu, c'est incroyable. Ils ont trouve une voix parfait pour la formidable Trixie!

lance said...

Yeah, Trixie's VA was great, but did you hear Rainbow's? That was terrible.

Octavia said...

French Trixie! I love her speaking French. Especially since French woman always sound so uppity. At least to me. I think French suits her. <3

DeeperMadness said...

It's hard to believe how far and away the characters sound, despite only being on the other side of the Channel. Very interesting.

J'aime LA FORMIDABLE TRIXIE!!

Puzzle Plate said...

wow according my readout, French Trixie made an obnoxigen cloud large enough to scare away an Ursa Major

David said...

@BasharoonskisOh GOD I KNOW. I melted into a puddle when I heard her voice. Her lullaby is like....I can't even explain man. There isn't a word to describe how adorable it is.

Samuel7897 said...

Amazing voice acting, it's as good as English the dub :D

Vinny said...

I'd like to hear an episode in all Australian accents.

DulTek said...

Lol, this is soo much better if you can understand what she is saying! xD Priceless. I mean, its more or less the same as the english version... But to hear it in french... =3

MedicShy said...

@Basharoonskis

I agree. French Flutterguy is worth looking up. Liquid chocolate sex is too mild for what it is.

Miyajima said...

... That's it, Trixie is from Prance. This is canon.

Mooke said...

@MedicShy

And then her singing voice... wow, just wow.

Fluttershy needs her own (adult) song just so we can hear more French Fluttershy singing.

@LitcheeJust doing my job ma'am

Twilight_Crow said...

I hate French, but dear Trixie sounds quite good.

Nolim said...

My first reaction to hearing those ponies in my native tongue is "they all sound the same".
Not the same as the english voices. The same as each other.
Is that weird?

frederic said...

The french version is not too bad. Some obvious puns are lost in translation, but the overal package is nice. Pinkie's voice sound a little too womanly however.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to download the french episodes!

Steve Rowland said...

I must say some scenes sound great in French and I dont even understand French. French Trixie is good, but try French Rarity in art of dress or CMC theme song (it is actually good and not off note).

Steve Rowland said...

*and I didnt finish sentence xD
- i wanted to say french rarity and cmc theme is great.

Rhed said...

I like how french Trixie always changes her Title name. "Merveilleuse et puissante Trixie" ; "L'Extraordinaire et fabuleuse Trixie"

Armando said...

>> No neighing sound.

I forgot that joke would be lost on other languages. I feel sad now :( That was pretty good though.

Polaris said...

I think Trixie got the best VA of the show. But Rainbow Dash, Oh Celestia, what have they done to your voice? D':

Marcoooootje1 said...

Haven't you already posted this a while ago? O.o
Ohwell, it's kewl!

Keanno said...

dear god tell me there is a German version of this

skyringsprod said...

The french dubs are too bad. The only that is good is the voice of Twilight. The other are terrible. And it's not the voices, but the way they translate the dialogs. They just sound so ... empty !

And you didn't heard the songs…

Original version FOREVERRRRRRRR !

David Johnston said...

@Radimir

I'm so sick of that joke. It isn't true of France or Trixie. Trixie DID try to stop the Ursa.

Saddlesoap said...

@Rhed

..."La Fantastique et Incroyable Trixie"

..."La Grande et Fabuleuse Trixie"

SO true. It adds a certain arrogant flair.

Omatic said...

If Trixie comes back in the english season 3 speaking French like this, I'll probably faint (in a good way).

ToonNinja said...

That was pretty damn close. Props to whoever did Trixie's voice.

Nyerguds said...

Judging from the French Ep3 I've seen, the French voice acting is really good overall.

Delta Pangaea said...

Trixie in French comes of as more smug and obnoxious? WHODA THUNKIT?! :P

James Corck said...

Trixie does sound BETTER in FRENCH!!!

But come on man, "meh"? Sometimes I feel you bash quite a lot on the spaniards >_> If I didn't know you well, I'd say you actually do.

@Radimir

Speaking as someone who actually has cursory knowledge of World War II history, never-mind actual knowledge of French military performance in the First World War, I'm pretty sick of this display of casual bigotry and ignorance...and I'm not even a Francophile. You could start by actually getting a basic understanding of the military situation in WWII:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_France

(And yes Trixie did try to stop the Ursa Major, just as the French army did try to fight off the Nazis and got utterly creamed due to superior tactics and not properly guarding the pass through Belgium. THEN France surrendered, mostly under the aegis of a Field Marshall who wanted to avoid the slaughter he witnessed in WWI...not that I support Marshal Petain's decision, though framed in proper context it's a lot more complicated than, "The French are bunch of surrender monkeys.")

And I don't see any loss of sultriness on Trixie's part in the French dub. (Then again I don't recall any in original English.) If anything she seems to gain some, as well as sheer obnoxiousness and superciliousness.)

Rarity also sounds good in French too. :)

Baree said...

Its certainly better then the Dutch dub. I really like Rainbow. Monday the Dutchies will see Gilda, no idea when Trixie will make an appearance, (not for the rest of that week anyway).

duffdawg said...

@Radimir

I'm laughing for real right now. Also at the responses.

Mr.offspring said...

@Radimir

The f*** did you just say about French ?

ZVAARI said...

I actually like the french dub. I'm french myself and i usually play/watch in English, but this one sounds pretty decent. For a change.

In France, we have a hobby: changing voices over seasons for absolutely no reason. Let's just hope it won't happen this time.

Bien joué, ponies.

Nyerguds said...

@Baree
Don't remind me... Dutch Rainbow Dash sounds like Rarity *shudder* :|

Firespikez said...

oh no no no, you guys got it all wrong, our dubs are always as corny and horrible as this. it just fits Trixie most

TenchiFreak5 said...

In this round of comments, people act shocked and appalled at French stereotype jokes that have been common for longer than I've been alive.

NikeXTC said...

Whoa, French dub seems pretty nice! Trixie's voice is pretty annoying, hence it fits her very well :D

Other ponies' voices are quite nice, too... Although I just watched this video and the Flutterguy one. Maybe Pinkie Pie's voice is a bit... flat

Mr.offspring said...

@NikeXTC

French don't have any problem with this dub, but the translation is just awful.

NikeXTC said...

@Mr.offspring

I see... I haven't paid much attention to the translation, also because my French isn't that good :P I was focusing on characters' voices and tones.

I just noticed that Hoofington was renamed Sabotville :D

Anyway, if translation is bad, that sucks...

WhiteDiamonds said...

While I'm really not sure my body can handle Trixie sounding (potentially) more obnoxious than she did in the original English episode, I am game to find out. Yay, more French dub! *watches*

Mr.offspring said...

I totally forgot but there's at least one very bad voice: Rainbow Dash's.

SightlessOne said...

You know, she's even more obnoxious now in French.

mycutiemarkisagun said...

Well of COURSE the French would nail the Trixie arrogance and obnoxiousness...

*obligatory American "WE SAVED UR ASSES IN 2 WORLD WARS" comment*

blindredquine said...

@TenchiFreak5

I'm really not sure what you're point is. Tons of jokes based on bigoted stereotypes that have been around longer than most of us have been alive. That doesn't make them any less appalling or wrong-headed.

Plus, it's kind of disappointing to see members of a community who took the mantra, "I'm gonna love and tolerate the shit out of you," based on the values of the show give a pass to this kind of bigoted humour.

Sumica said...

Now I want to know how they are going to do Madam Le Flour.

TenchiFreak5 said...

@blindredquine

"Bigoted humor"? Give me a break.

My point is you are making a massive overreaction to a joking quip that no one has taken seriously for decades, to the extent that you made an attempt to cite historical examples proving why said quip was factually incorrect.

If you think that a single-sentence light-hearted joke warrants that kind of passionate response, I have to wonder what you did when The Simpsons came up with the phrase "cheese eating surrender monkeys."

CoffeeGrunt said...

The irony when the people fighting back in the name of France's military honour...aren't French.

Just saying, it holds to the stereotype.

Pinkie Pie said...

"La Merveilleuse et Puissante Trixie"

XD

I vote that Trixie's name be officially changed to "The Magnificent and Powerful Trixie" in the English version if she shows up in season two... "Magnificent" IS much more Trixie-like than just "Great"...

NotAGoodUsername360 said...

@NotAGoodUsername360 Whoops, that should be "Marvelous", not "Magnificent". XD

Mr.offspring said...

@Sumica
Actually, the next episode to be ripped is the 25th. Soon.

NikeXTC said...

@NotAGoodUsername360

As far as I know the phrase "The Great and Powerful Trixie" is a citation for The Wizard of Oz... Of course, replace Trixie with Oz...

Blue Cord Dragoon said...

Is this France French or Quebec French?

Nova25 said...

The voices make me think of Wakfu, for some reasons ?

Also... Sabbotville ? Ursa Major ?
That's France-french for you, alright ?

In Quebec-french, we would actually tend to keep the English names for places and the like, but would translate things like 'Ursa Major' (into : Ursa Majeur/Mineur).

Nova25 said...

@Dusty the Royal Janitor
Ah ? Vous parlez français ? ...ou vous avez utilisez un traducteur ?

(wow... I write so much stuff in English, now these days, that my writting speed is, like, cut in half when writting in my own language ? Fascinating.)

Nova25 said...

@Radimir
Well, this sentence is, in itself, worth more than a metric ton of crap, if I ever saw one ?

Also, massive malus for taking such a stupid ''stereotype''(which is more like a half-broken pseudo-fact ductapped hastily together) completely out-of-context.

That look SOOOooo smart.

@TenchiFreak5
"....I have to wonder what you did when The Simpsons came up with the phrase "cheese eating surrender monkeys."

I can't clearly remember, though, being about 13 years old at the time. I imagine I did laugh, having significantly less taste and maturity then, and still far off from doing things like disabusing myself of the term "gay" as a slur.

"If you think that a single-sentence light-hearted joke warrants that kind of passionate response..."

To quote a friend of mine: "I laughed, then felt immediate guilt about how F*CKED the Continental Army (and the US) woulda been without the French Fleet at Yorktown. Knowing things really takes the humor outta stereotypes."

If I seem humourless my own perspective it this: it's not only WWII history, but the fact that interwar French governments were often more forceful in trying to check the rise of Nazi ambitions than the British government (or the American and Canadian governments for that matter). Yet more specifically it's knowing how hard France fought during World War I while taking the brunt of it in terms of casualties and damage to their country. Never minding that entire villages and towns were wiped out by Nazis just for having the presence of resistance members.

If I don't find it funny, it's because knowing the history involved this is like making jokes about Americans being "whiners" due to 9/11.

(Well that and the slur was revived en masse in living memory to attack France's opposition to the Iraq War, when just recently the UK and France led the charge to provide air support to keep the Libyan rebels from being massacred.)

TenchiFreak5 said...

I consider myself a history/military buff as well. I know probably everything of consequence that there is to know about France's role in WWII. I know about their role in WWI. I know about their role in the American Revolution.

And yet, I'm not so humourless that I feel the need to go on long tirades chastising people because they cracked a joke about something that is probably 30 years past the point of actually being offensive, and is only even common today because of popular culture.

I can laugh at the idea of the French coward just like I can laugh at the idea of the American tourist in Europe demanding everyone to "speak American." In fact, I'd even say that knowing the truth behind the joke makes it even funnier, because it gives me more perspective. I'm sorry that you find no humour in these things, but I have to admit that I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

CoffeeGrunt said...

In other news, the French surrender, British have tea with the Queen, Spanish fight bulls, Germans invade stuff, Polish immigrate to Britain, Americans are stupid and fat, Australians just surf and drink alcohol, the Chinese are smart but weird, everyone in North Korea is a slave, Japanese are awesome at tech but can't write stories that aren't weird, Russian is awesome, Canada is a northern state of America, Brazil is currently just a burning rainforest, Norwegians sleep on icebeds, Icelandics survive on pure moonshine, Tibet is a Chinese state, Israel is a nation of squatters, everyone in the Middle East wants to burn their own towns, everyone in Africa is starving.

Now that we have these stereotypes off our chest, can we stop whining about people making light of them?

Nova25 said...

@CoffeeGrunt
>Canada is a northern state of America
-..Ho oh... Did the Fallout series foresaw the future ? US VS China, and all that follows ?

Also, you forgot that Russian LOVE Vodka, a LOT.

Also, you seem to overlook the fact that there's a *difference* between making a light-hearted joke using a common stereotype... and the kind of crappy comment like 'Radimir' did.
