Don't have an OC myself, but sounds like a nice nod to the fans as well as a rather convenient way to spruce up the background filler so we don't see 2-3 Bon Bons & Lyras on screen at the same time in some frames.
Probably not going to get me off my lazy flank to come up with something to submit but I'd be lying if I said that this hasn't caught my attention and piqued my curiosity with how it will pan out.

I think Nyx would be cool, despite the hate she gets sometimes. She's adorable and is pretty believable, given her backstory. But also, Twilight as mom is just awesome IMO.

Before you submit the OC's of other people ask for their permissions.
Also keep in mind that we’re are talking about background ponies. So if there’s a “Nyx” in the background it’s probably just a black unicorn filly and not an alicorn or an incarnation of NMM. Same goes for Littlepip, Midnight or any other OC character.
And don’t be surprised if some fans spot your OC character, give him/ her a different name, a new back story and ship him/ her with Carrot Top, creating a new popular background pony that has nothing in common with your OC.
If not Littlepip Velvet Remedy would fit in really well considering her cutie mark looks like a normal canon pony one
Yonasomun does have a point with that, so I'd say be a little careful with their characters if they are included in this.

Personally I don't that Nyx's actions were so egregious to a point where it warrants the amount of flak towards Pen Stroke and Batty Gloom. It's been 2 months and people are still upset over the pure existence of the fic. It's time to move on to other things new season has arrived and people should pay attention to that. But I digress.

If I see Nyx in the background, I... *sigh* she's not fitting as pony in the show. Just her colors are too dark, and her eyes are too special. Same with her cutie mark (whatever that was again).
Let's just say that, if Nyx were to get accepted, it wouldn't be Nyx on the screen. If you know what I mean (they'd probably change her color scheme and... everything).
I think a good OC made for this "event" would be much more suitable, as people are bound to create OC's that actually fits in with Equestria and Ponyville.
