• Italian Episode One + Opening

Apparently that TV spot from a few days ago actually was the intro song.

I'll be honest, I like the lack of a "My Little Pony" jingle at the start.  That has always been a hurdle for me in showing friends the series.  It pretty much always elicits groans. The rest of the song is great, but the first 5 seconds are always difficult! I was also told by Cereal that I only like it because I like anime, so maybe it will click for those of you who are in the same boat.

In Italy, they apparently split each episode up to 10 minute segments, so only the first half is out right now.  You still get to see a few of the mane cast voice overs though.

Episode 1/2+Intro Lyrics is after the break!

    Lyrics to intro:

In a splendid, colorful and magical world
my little ponies always live in peace and harmony
they make the sun shine, they make the plants grow
and also they spark off the joy
    if you'll meet them.
Fly and go ! My little pony !
If you wanna meet new friends !
Take flight and listen to your heart, and you can face every adventure.
Fly and go ! My little pony !
Chase your dreams, and don't stop !
    Don't stop !

    3. O.O
      It's like an Anime Intro!!!

      Do i like it?
      Hmmm...
      It's definitely different.
      I don't Dislike it.

    5. Eyup, totally anime style. You know, I like anime but the openings often infuriate me. To convince me to sit through 1 minute of credit oenings it needs to be awesome, like Soul Eater (black paper moon~) or the FIRST Bleach opening. If not, take it back. Give me a 30s intro and dive right into the action any day.

    6. I love it. It sounds brilliant. xDD;;

    7. They have ruined. EVERYTHING!

I just love the regular voices to much.

    8. I really like this intro, but I dig anime so...

    9. Can't wait for all my family in italy to see this finally!

    10. It is certainly less traditional, but I do really like it. It would be cool to have a translation of what the singer is saying.

      ReplyDelete
    11. LOL they have a good pinkie_gasp.wav voice for sure xD

      ReplyDelete
    12. This now somewhat canonises those "What if MLP was an Anime" video on youtube.

I liked the intro, even though I hadn't faintest idea what they were saying. I know zero Italian.

      >video gets to Spike's voice

      WHAT IS THIS?!?!

      ReplyDelete
    13. Definitely wouldn't work here since it's double the normal 30s intro. We need that time for commercials and shit, y'know.

I do like how it goes all clip show with the first season though and music at least sounds nice.

    14. I <3 this opening.So anime ish.

      ReplyDelete
    15. Oh, lord. Applebloom's voice. I hope that isn't permanent.

      ReplyDelete
    16. I like the opening, I would love to know what the words are. It should be interesting to see it when someone translates it. It took me a while to get used to the voices, but it could be worse. I am disappointed that the video cut out before Rarity came on. Her and Applejack have the most distinctive accents so seeing what they do with Rarity will be interesting.

    17. So, they seriously split the episodes in half over there? Seems odd, but oh well.

I kinda like the intro. Kinda catchy.

      ReplyDelete
    18. I like the opening. I wouldn't want anything like it to replace the real opening, but I like it. It is very anime, and I do like good animes.

I don't like the voices though. Obviously, there may be inflections and tonal qualities lost on my foreign ears, but eugh, they haven't captured Spike's, Applejacks' or Rainbow's voices well. Easpecially Rainbows', way too high pitched. Pinkie's gasp was all wrong too.
That said, I still want to watch the rest of it.

    19. Now, the italian first episode has some flaws that can't be denied, but the adaptation did a work that if you never heard the original english version will sound at least "normal" for the average spectator. My only real concern is about applebloom's voice: for a 4 seconds line it could be ok, but if she's going to talk that way for all of her episodes I think I'll rather skip them. Oh and there is some evident mistake in the adaptation, like not traslating the title of Celestia, that is "princess" even in italian instead of "principessa" or "pegasus" that is kept that way in stead of the italian "pegaso" but actually I can't complain because I've seen bad works and this is not one of them.
Said this, the voices are not perfect but they do thir works and they avoided to gibe Applejack an accent but all the texts are clear and can be easily accessed by kids, so... not a work that will give me a fangasm but not even a two thumbs down.

      ReplyDelete
    20. Applebloom kinda got cuter at the same time she became less tolerable/likable with that voice....

      ReplyDelete
    21. Tomorrow italian bronies should record the second part, so stay tuned. I have send to Seth the lyrics in english of the opening traslated by our comunity, but for who wonder what they say and can't wait...

    24. I absolutely don't like it. In my opinion the characters have lost their personality with those voices.

      ReplyDelete
    25. Thanks Grifen! That was fast.

Also, anyone else notice that Lyra TALKS? She says "Ciao" (hello) as twilight rushes past. To my knowledge she says nothing at all in the entire season 1.

      ReplyDelete
    26. Lyra actually gets a line in this dub. I wonder why they added that, she just waves without saying anything in the original.

      ReplyDelete
    27. I like it, but I prefer the American version.

      ReplyDelete
    28. Can't say I'm fond of it, really.
Feels too drawn out, and the idea of it being comprised almost entirely of clips from other episodes gives me it a somewhat...low effort kind of feel.

Despite the Masculinity Shattering first few seconds of the current intro, I still have to say I like it more. Plus what follows that part catches people by surprise, makes people have second thoughts.

      ReplyDelete
    29. I prefer the old opening, but this ones not bad either.

It's really weird hearing the english names of the ponies spoken in italian, untranslated.

      @Grifen
      Thank ya kindly!

    30. im italian i saw the entire season 1 in english, today i saw this on tv and i dont really like this italian version voices doesnt really seem to fit the characters also i bet the songs would sound awfully bad in this version

      ReplyDelete
    31. I like the intro! But probably because I like anime..

      ReplyDelete
    32. Youre right Greenie Pie, Lyra (outside of crowd songs) never utters a single word. Makes me wonder if they'll add words/dialogue to other background pony scenes.

      ReplyDelete
    33. I'll be honest, the opening caught my attention, and I'm not even that big an anime guy. But Spike's voice didn't seem right, and neither did Apple Bloom's. Rainbow Dash's was iffy.

...Wait a minute, Lyra TALKS? Holy sh*t!

      ReplyDelete
    34. Italy has a history of really cool, different theme songs for dubs. Me likey.

      ReplyDelete
    35. It's MUCH better than the Portugues voices they gave here. I'd rather have this than the crap we got here in Brazil.

      ReplyDelete
    36. I already appologize for the french version ;_;

      ReplyDelete
    37. That new intro... it sounds nice, but there's too many spoilers.

      ReplyDelete
    38. It's... alright. The bass is annoying in my opinion :P

      ReplyDelete
    39. Oh, and I forgot to mention... you might notice in this new intro has Applebloom, Scootaloo, Trixie, Zecora, Sapphire Shores, and even our dear Derpy... but no Sweetie Belle.

      Poor Sweetie Belle...

      ReplyDelete
    40. I approve of their theme, if only because they show Trixie when they say "magical".

Otherwise, though, it's actually kinda catchy.

      ReplyDelete
    41. Yeah, with how it's done with dynamic random scenes, it's rather like most anime intros. Personally, I don't mind the normal intro. But then again, I did watch the first generation when I was little. But these are very interesting and kinda funny to listen to. :P

      ReplyDelete
    42. @Felipe Martins Fontes That was fandub, it wasn´t official!
And i agree, the voices they gave suck.
However, if the show starts airing here, with a dub like that, i won´t watch it on TV.

      ReplyDelete
    43. Yea, the intro is very good compared to the voice choices... Spike is really off and Rainbow Dash is too girly. But eh, nothing is perfect, right? I really liked their Applejack tho, even if I don't know how southern italian accent sounds like :)
Also, somepony above mentioned it's strange they didn't translate names. That's the same thing I do in the subtitles I make - their names would sound awfully weird in Hungarian. I guess they would be strange in Italian too, that's why they kept them as they are.

      ReplyDelete
    44. God damn, this is one addictive intro!

    47. I like that Trixie is in the Intro when they say Magic.

Also Is Lyra Italian? She speaks, so Canonically is she Italian now...

      ReplyDelete
    48. Here in Italy feelings abouth voices of charaters are mixed... but generally, Rainbow Dash and Spike (he sound too female) seem less fitting ones also for italian audience.

"Italian" Applejack don't have an accent, but just try to talk like a country girl. Although it is not excellent, on the character remains appropriate.

Initially we have some doubt abouth Twilight voice, but now we see the dubber did a good job.

      ReplyDelete
    49. Am I the only one who thinks that picture in the header looks like Scootaloo is doing a striptease? 0_o Okay, time to put the internet away for a while...

      ReplyDelete
    50. so fucking jelly of Italians now. no offense to Ingram, but the current American intro is probably the only thing I don't like about the show

      ReplyDelete
    51. I like the lack of a “My Little Pony” jingle at the start. That has always been a hurdle for me in showing friends the series. It pretty much always elicits groans. The rest of the song is great, but the first five seconds are always difficult!

Unfortunately, that almost certainly is the least likely part of the theme to change. I’d bet money Mr. Ingram is under a contractual obligation to include that jingle in the theme music. It’s the musical equivalent of a trademark, part of the franchise, and I can’t imagine Hasbro budging on it.

    52. So now no more shouting France at the end of the opening?

      ReplyDelete
    53. Much better than the Spanish version (from Mexico, that is). It helps to know Spanish, so I found this greatly amusing.

Oh, and Rainbow Dash's giggling had me almost in tears. I love it! It needs to be in the soundboard.

      ReplyDelete
    54. The italian opening is pretty good, I think it's slightly better than the original one.Not that I hate the original.

Most of the time when I'm watching the episodes I tend to skip the intro since it's well...you know.

      ReplyDelete
    55. Opening was ok, I loved Twilight's voice and Applejack's was good too. Dash's voice is passable, still works. Spike's voice is way too wimpy.

      ReplyDelete
    56. I'm expecting a remix of that intro in the next 3 days.

And by "expecting" I mean "WANT SO MUCH".

      ReplyDelete
    57. Well, Italy does decent and different dubs, but I was not expecting a total edition. I kinda like it, the lyrics are good and it's long (although high in spoilers...)

Oh God, what they did with Spike's voice? D:
The rest is barely ok. Italian RD giggles are adorable :3

      ReplyDelete
    58. Oh my gosh. Trixie? In an opening?

      So cool.

      ReplyDelete
    59. @DRTJR Well, the lyre was very popular in ancient Greece and Rome... so in retrospective Lyra is Mediterranean!

      @Dr.Brony FRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANCE~

      ReplyDelete
    60. Lyra only speaks in the Italian dub.

      Logical conclusion:
      Lyra is Italian.

      ReplyDelete
    61. Oh, for fuck's...is it really that hard to find a VA for Rainbow Dash that doesn't make her sound like she just sucked down half a liter of helium? Seriously. >.<

Other than that and Applebloom's voice, though...it's decent again. I do kind of like the theme song, too.

      ReplyDelete
    62. I'm gonna go in a different direction completely, because the first thing I thought was "WOW. They managed to make the show even more beautiful." I'm still not totally committed until I hear more of the voices, but based on this clip alone, I like it better. Yes, not too much better, but the presentation, from my POV (American) is very appealing. Opening theme completely outshines ours. Target audience- a child never seen the show before, it describes the series way better. SUCCESS *brohoof*

    63. @ZAquanimus

      Inorite!
Very much like an anime intro...
But I don't dislike it, actually it's pretty creative.
Also the vocals are pretty accurate for foreign voice actors.

      ReplyDelete
    64. Seth's right, I can never stand those 5 seconds. They're like nails on a chalkboard to me.

      ReplyDelete
    65. So ... where's Lauren Faust's name?
BTW I also like that they used title cards.

      ReplyDelete
    66. It was different, although not bad. I admit it sounded animeish although more like the 4kids versions of them. For some reason tokyo mew mew comes to mind. Magical Girl + Ponies? Weird.

      ReplyDelete
    67. ...And I think it ate my comment.
Short version: Like these voices, have to get used to Rainbow's and Spike's, Hoping they don't mess up Fluttershy's. Liked the beginning, like ours better.

      ReplyDelete
    68. and winner for best foreign dub goes to....
      ITALY!

      ReplyDelete
    69. Fresh from the 2nd episode (that is, end of ep1):

Rarity's voice is murder-worthy. So much girly, and in the completely wrong way.

Pinke Pie: she's OK actually, although they have sometimes halved her lines in order to fit the screentime. Italian language is slower than English, plus PP speaks a little slower :p

Fluttershy: Well it's not that bad, the English voice is irreplaceable, but this one I can get used to.

Mayor Mare was very good. Too bad she opened with the equivalent of "Fillies and gentlemen" *facehoof*

Nightmare Moon... it brought a tear to my eye. That voice was perfect, haunting, better than the original even. If only they always chose dubbers this fitting.

      ReplyDelete
    70. I kinda liked Lyra's voice there. Ciao!

    72. The opening for this is awesome. I like anime, so that might be the reason.

      ReplyDelete
    73. well, rarity got the short straw, yes, but i still think she's above spike. NMM is good and so is FS. Am I the only one that feels a big difference in Pinkie voice during the party and then during NMM appearance? She sounds more pinkish on the latter.

Again, a good work if you think that it's not done with people that already watched all the show in the original language in mind, but for little girls.

Just one thing: "agitati"? why not "matti"? I mean, ok that it could give an odd exaple but it seems a bit... out of place.

      Oh and FS doesn't squeak...

      ReplyDelete
    74. @mimezinga
In the words of Jayson Thierssen himself:
"We make the show GOOD. Good has no target demographics."

It being a show for little girls is no valid reason to detract from the voice acting of the original and toning down the characters.

And the 'matti' becoming 'agitati'... well that's what I was talking about, they're dumbing down the dialogue, 'smoothing' the 'rough angles' that were so appealing to the older audience (I mean, an entire meme has spawned out of this original phrase only) just to uniform more to their idea of a cartoon for "little girls", and honestly, I was kinda expecting that. They're not the creators of the show, so one can't expect as much understanding about what's actually good for the "little girls" to watch.

      ReplyDelete
    75. I like it. It sounds like a 90's cartoon now~

    76. @Toxychor
Ok, but that's part of the italian mentality when it comes to adaptations. I'm not saying that it's okay, I'm just wondering if it was legitimate (given the premises) to expect something different.

Anyhow, is there an italian site of reference for ITA bronies? I looked for it with google but had no luck.

      ReplyDelete
    77. hi i am italian.i think that the opening is OK.
all voice-overs are disturbing, characters lose theyr true personality with theyr voices. AJ is good but she speaks true italian and not a funny country dialect anymore ç_ç. Twilight is like a 2 years child, pinkie lost her annoying high pitch voice, fluttershy has a good voice but she doesn't squeek when she tell twilight her name, spike is a girl now, RD is strange but we can deal with HIM, rarity has a more young and annoying voice but we can say it is good.Applebloom has cancer. Mayor and Nightmare Moon are perfect.original names are better than translated names, trust me....maybe "Princess" could have been translated but is ok.

    79. Italian brony here. I watched only the first Italian episode (that is, the first half of 1x01) on YouTube... In the past, they totally ruined a lot of other anime/cartoons, so what they've done is quite acceptable.

I don't like much the voices and especially the slightly childish tone they gave to some of the dialogues... Still, this could have been MUCH worse.

I'm fansubbing in Italian the first season, and willing to do the same with Season 2 as soon as episodes air. Italian bronies interested (also in contributing!), contact me on YouTube.

Technically Accurate Translation (which also sings well in English, for the most part):

"In a World, splendid, colorful, and magical,
Little Ponies live [together], forever in peace and harmony.

The [beautiful] sun they make shine,
The [green] plants they make grow.
Joy they also make spark, if you ever meet them. (???)

Fly and go! My little pony!
If you want to meet new friends!
Take flight and listen to your heart, in every adventure you face.

Fly and go! My little pony !
Chase [all] your dreams, and Don't you stop!
      Don't you stop!
      Don't you stop!
      Don't you stop..."

      Hope you guys like that.

    85. @KillKatt

It's quite normal in Italy. Except for some anime (such as those aired by MTV), they always get translated lyrics, often with different sense and images.

And trust me, they didn't do that bad on MLP... A lot of other cartoons/anime got screwed in the past...
