    1. Holy crap, that was an awesome story!

    2. That was pretty awesome...

      [spoiler ahead! Warning]

Was kinda hoping it was going to be an explaination story sorta, of how equestria came to be, that the portal was more of a time travel thing, and how the trio were meant to go back... but maybe that would have been a cliche

      [end spoilers]

    3. Don't worry...

      ...I'm not done yet.
      Muahahahahaaa!!!!

Seriously, there's, like, four more parts to the story.

      ReplyDelete
    4. Oh ok... Yeah, when I think about it, makes sense since a great deal of the main cast were absent during the last 2 parts... as well as some of the G1 ponies that the main cast were based off...

    5. Next up...G4 ponies meet the G3 ponies! Oh God...

    6. Stupid humans. They are a blight that must be cleansed with love and friendship.

Ah good. I finished reading it and thought "That's it? Awww. G1 meeting G4 seemed like such an awesome concept." I was hoping for a little more cross-generation interaction. The twist with Megan was crazy.

    8. @Jenovall:

I knew I detected a continuation with the description for Chapter 3.

    9. Wasn't expecting Megan to become the villian, guess she was corrupted by all that power.
Never did say what happened to the Moochic.
Overall and interesting tale with an unexpected twist.

    10. Another "humans are evil" story?

Well, if that floats your boat, go ahead.
Me, I found that shift from what they were portrayed like in G1 more than a little jarring.
No explanation, just BAM Megan's evil, always has been- Oh and her siblings too. It felt like a twist for the sake of a twist.
Also, they can free and forgive effin' Nightmare Moon, but the humans are... what? Too corrupted? Too evil? No matter, they need to go, so they get kicked out.
It was a very promising start; But I can't say I found the continuation very satisfying.

    11. Great story! I always did hate Megan's guts.

Well . . . that's not totally true, she was all right in Rescue at Midnight Castle.

But after that she became the unofficial tyrant of the ponies. They went to her for EVERYTHING and let her dictate ALL their plans, it drove me crazy. "Oh, I have a splinter, whatever shall I do? I need to ask Meeeegaaaan."

      ReplyDelete
    12. It's still kinder than my G1 meets G4 meshes so far...

      ReplyDelete
    13. I like the theory that Megan eventually uses the rainbow of light to become Celestia a lot more though.

      This was well written though.

      ReplyDelete
    14. Original point of making Megan evil was, as one anon posted, they came to Megan for EVERYTHING. Eventually, they seemed like they just stopped trying to figure things out and just counted on Megan's stupid ass. "Baby it's cold outside" is a good example. Plus, Megan is kinda Mary Sue-ish anyway, since she symbolizes what every girl DREAMS of doing: playing with little multicolored ponies and being their hero. Amirite?

    15. @Roy G. Biv

And what you're thinking is probably kinder than mine, because for me, "G1" means Transformers, and my favorite Transformers (aside from the Dinobots and Optimus Prime) were the evil Decepticons...

    16. I knew it. The g4 ponies didn't end up in the g1 continuity as we know rather an alternative to it. Occurring to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4RdkOTwqfY&feature=related, Megan wasn't brought in until after The Smooze causing trouble and the ponies didn't want to take the humans with them to help solve their problems.

    17. I wondered if thus would get more. It turns out just as i thought that it gets bumped.

      Talk about timing.

    24. This is awesome; I recommend anyone who DID NOT know anything about the old gens to read this, BADLY. Very funny, yet creepy and almost disturbing at the same time. Very very worth it.

    30. Oh god, those "hooves"...

Anyways, I was pleasantly surprised to see that this updated! I really liked the G1 part, and these new chapters feel like a good continuation.

It also occurs to me that G3.5 is next up. And if the author managed to make MLPT horrifying, 3.5 should be straight up nightmare fuel. Should be fun!

      ReplyDelete
    31. Sorry, the "humans are ugly and evil" thing completely shut me down.

    32. Looking forward to the next part, LET'S DO ITTTTTT, and yeah, as someone on Deviant Art said, them finding some good humans would be grand.

    33. @anon 2 places before me

*Currently half way through chapter 6*

I wonder though if this more playing off the Idea that Power corrupts one. Partially I think it works for ponies too, as they were trying to emulate the humans. But thats my Wild mass guessing theory. its more up to the writer

      ReplyDelete
    34. Sorry. Couldn't get through Chapter 2. It completely goes against my entire memory of the G1 show to ever think of Megan like that. Gah.

      ReplyDelete
    35. I completely forgot that G1 was closer to Dragon Tales than it was to ordinary MLP. This was kind of weird for me to read, but awesome nonetheless.

    36. @Anonymous

Anon, as a 20-year veteran of Furry Fandom, I have encountered the much-overused "Hy00mans are EEEEEVIL!" trope. In this story, it makes sense.

We're seeing this through Twilight Sparkle's eyes. Her only encounter with humans (and the resulting first impression) was in G1 Paradise Acres, with three human kids who were behaving plausibly for three little kids who find themselves with absolute power over a fantasyland of living equine playtoys.

And this was reinforced by the Sliders move to G2, where the G2 ponies lived in an American high school circa 1990 as interpreted by the Alpha Females of that high school. (And foot-bound their hooves into hands.)

I would be surprised if Twi didn't have that impression. Though I wish somepony would have used the term "Yahoos" at some point. (Check the origin of the word sometime...)

      ReplyDelete
    37. @Anonymous

When they get to G3, expect some G4 pony freakouts. If I remember my canon right, G3 is set in Ponyville, just not the G4s' Ponyville. Also there should be a LOT of pony names in common between G3s and G4s, with completely-different ponies and interrelationships.

Probably Twi & Co might figure they're getting closer, as the dimensions become more and more similar with each gen. Expect the "don't meet your alternate or bad things might happen" to get a workout, with all the common names between G3 & G4.

And I hope Jenovall brings this story (which is shaping up as a novella) to a definite end, with the ponies making it back to G4 Equestria. Otherwise Jenovall will have the same problem as Sliders and ST:V'Ger -- eventually, you've got to get Gilligan off the island.

      ReplyDelete
    38. Same guy as the last two posts.

I'd like to congratulate Jenovall on a crossover with great satiric value, comparing and contrasting G4 with the previous versions. Lots of opportunities for guerilla critique there.

I mean, the contrast between the G4 ponies -- all self-supporting young adults (except maybe Twilight Sparkle, who's a graduate student on an internship) -- with the perpetual foals of G1 and their perpetual foal games and tea parties is just too good to pass up.

I'd like to see Jenovall work in some "Not Another F'in Tea Party!" joke in future chapters.

All in all, a good fanfic. Should be at least four stars.

May as well sign my usual blog commenter's handle:

    40. Thank you, anons! Finally, somepony understands me!
Lol i didn't go all Ferngully on you guys, so it's not complete human-bashing. Elsewise, Megan would be burning down forests, clubbing baby seals, and dumping aquanet cans into the rivers.

not gonna address the tea party thing, but i'll just post this link as a hint: http://scott2339.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d1lszcd (Grimdarkish warning)

      SQUEE.

      G1 meets G4! G1 meets G4! Awesome. I'm writing a G1-G4 series myself; it's nice to see a brony that doesn't loathe G1.

Your story seems a bit uncanny though, and I hate your twist on Megan, but its still awesome.

      ReplyDelete
    48. I honestly have to say, as a fan of G1, this fic is a bit jarring. At first I was happy to see a nice G1 meets G4 ficlet, but it seems you're twisting the characters.

"Creepy" twinkle-eyed Ponies, they're all fat, Megan's a bad guy, they're all creepy, Firefly's more over-confident than she really is, etc..

      ReplyDelete
    49. Spoiler-y post ahead!

Now I'd just like to know what actually happened there. Was that actual time travel (I'm not exactly far in Planescape: Torment but can those portals even work like that?) which would actually make sense in a way (at least from G3 onwards) but on the other hand it would also make sense that they were simply travelling the planes which happened to bear striking resemblance to each other. Heck, you keep suggesting one but then you drop a very likely hint for the other... This is annoyingly confusing (especially since it's 4 at morning here).
In short: WTF is going on here?

Also, nice namedrop there. Didn't expect to hear from Morte & the gang all of a sudden.

      ReplyDelete
    50. @Hertzila Yeah, the "what if time travel ambiguity" thing was a little intentional. I was going to add a chapter where Celestia mentions some war that changed all of Equestria, explaining the Wall and the degradation of pony society, but all these neigh-sayers kept complaining it was too anti-human, so no extra chapter for you!

The major hint is that Celestia made a sunset for Luna. I'll let everypony draw their own conclusion.

Also, i wanna do a Torment/FiM crossover but not sure how to go about it. Nameless One ponified sounds pretty good, complete with floating pony-skull Morte.

      ReplyDelete
    51. I liked Chapter 11 immensely. The fact that the story was now complete was a big incentive to take the time to read it. I don't think I could have tolerated breaking off from the story with our heroines stuck in one of those hideous alternate realities. My goodness, how ever did you research the material for that story without going out of your head?

*Pictures some Lovecraftian scholar in a straightjacket surrounded by ancient tomes of forbidden literature, cackling "It's the elder ponies, they drove me insane!"*

      Anyhow, nice job!

      ReplyDelete
    52. @jenovaii

If the war involved humans, I think you should have just given us reasons for it. Not just casus bellis, mind, but actual ones, like a catastrophic resource failure or... well, catastrophy.

Also, a couple of humans acting like douchebags from a status of power is antihuman? How, and since when?

About that possible PS:T/FiM crossover, I think it would even make sense for the Nameless One to go there. Equestria is flooded with powerful magic, from their goddess down to basic unicorns and I'd say pegasi, too, not to mention Zecora and her brews. Not that Sigil isn't magical but compared to the Art, which is rather limited (sleep to recharge spells?), unicorn magic at least seems more powerful and, if nothing else, versatile. That would equal a good chance of finding a potent amnesia cure as well as it being likely that a previous Nameless One searched Equestria for... something. Depends on the specifics.
(Again, please pardon any inaccurate stuff, I havn't played through the game yet.)

      ReplyDelete
    53. @DPR Been a brony since i was a kid. Even watched the horror that was 'Tales.' Worked at Toys R Us, had no choice but to buy (yes, as in pay money for) all of the G3 shorts/movies. i actually liked "A Very Minty Christmas" and of course "A Charming Birthday" is my favorite G3 short. There's a cute song in "The Runaway Rainbow" about rainbows. It's kinda catchy!

      ReplyDelete
    54. @Hertzila Equestria (or, in G1 terms, "Ponyland") is full of magical creatures and items. There are even some other humans there (Tirak was a prince, after all). It would have mostly been Megan coming back for revenge.

Twilight would have taken the name "North Star" in G3 world. When Celestia heard the name, she would almost attack Twilight, then realize it was the wrong pony. North Star had brought Megan back (she was the mole), along with some other humans. Megan would have concentrated on reclaiming her throne, so to speak, and essentially enslaving the ponies. Stronger Revolution, involving the three races. Pegasi are dishonored because one of their own betrayed ponykind. The three races split, thinking themselves superior against the other. The Wall is formed to keep magic and other influences out. The Wall is destroyed thanks to the union of the Sparkle Bright ponies (seen in G2 world). Celestia is hiding this entire time, guilt-tripped from imprisoning Luna, but still has a little involvement with the Wall's destruction. Unification of the races begins again with G3!Rarity (unicorns) and G3!Star Catcher(pegasi) as its main players. Celestia awakens in G3.5 time, assumes her throne at Canterlot, and begins the search for the Elements of Harmony. Her rule is tyrannical at first but calms as she becomes aware of the ponies who would become the Elements.

Um...some of this will eventually take form in another story. Someday.

      ReplyDelete
    55. Dang jenovaii, that sounds awesome!

Great story, I loved it. And admire you for doing all that research. I've been a pony fan since G1, and I could barely make it through the G3.5 Twinkle Wish Adventure. "WE ALL WISHED FOR SNOW!" Wh . . . what?

      ReplyDelete
    56. Really didn't like the part where Celestia is basically lying to everyone about raising the sun. Feels Bad Man.

      ReplyDelete
    57. Yay a G1/G4 crossover! What, Megan is mean?

Imagine a G3.5/G4 crossover, Rainbow Dash meets her G3.5 self...

      ReplyDelete
    58. If I'm not mistaken you swiped a few lines from A Nightmare Before Christmas. The sound track, that is. It had some dialogue in the prologue and epilogue that the film didn't.

"Would you do the whole thing all over again? Knowing what you know now? Knowing what you knew then?"

      ReplyDelete
    59. Well, that was fun. I love how the G4 ponies get more and more freaked out as it goes on, even though you'd think the designs were getting closer to the current. But not much closer, I suppose. And after watching those six minutes, I will never watch anything G3 again. Ever. They ruined Sweetie Belle. (*Apple Bloom pout* "No. It has to be pink." *hmpf*) And Scootaloo just barely made it.
And, of course, Pinkie Pie is awesome at the impossibly long Legend of Zelda-esque trading chain. That was the best part, besides olden Celestia. And please put out the extra chapter, or at least a side fic.

      ReplyDelete
    60. While reading the scene in G3 Ponyville where our Dashie & Fluttershy witness the Hawt G3 Flutterdash Action, I had this flash of Dashie's voice:

"All... righty... What you say we head on out of Lesbia and over to that donut shop?"

      ReplyDelete
    61. @musicssound

I love how the G4 ponies get more and more freaked out as it goes on, even though you'd think the designs were getting closer to the current.

I think it WOULD be the "getting closer to the current" that would freak them out. Close enough to be familiar (it's PONYVILLE, including the terrain around it) yet just WRONG.

      "I'm back in 1903... but it isn't MY 1903!"
-- Michael Moorcock, Warlord of the Air

And it's also scary when "our" Pinkie Pie watches her G3 version and comments "That's too much pink for even me!" Too much pink for Pinkie? Too much sugar for Pinkie? That's BAD.

    62. Could have been worse. What if our six equine Sliders had taken a side trip and met the Strutz? You know, those Bratz-doll versions of Ponies? Or should I say Whorses?

      ReplyDelete
    63. All in all quite good. Loved the whole Planet of the Apes-like twist with the ambiguity. I hated having to watch that bit of Generation 3.5 though JUST to understand that they wished for snow and that it was purple. UGH! Finding out along with the mane cast was just fine.

My only other minor gripe was the names

Tia > Celly as Luna's nickname for Celestia
Ditzy Doo > Bright Eyes as an alternative to Derpy Hooves

I know people feel reserved about calling a character "Derpy" as an actual name, but I find the idea of calling her "Bright Eyes" so out of place. It's kinda stupid and pointless too as it really doesn't stray the focus from her cross-eyed trait anymore than Derpy or Ditzy does. It's like calling a fat pony "Slim" instead of "Chunky"
