    1. Mother's day? Was that Twilight chickening out or what the story was about?
Damn you or making me think it was shipping despite the normal tag.
      Good story,though.

    2. I saw it coming but God was it ever beautiful. I love exploring the relationship Twilight and Celestia have and this was, by far, my favorite of the very, very few fics I've read.

      Also Spike is awesome.

    3. Holy ponies.

Dat ending, didn't see it coming and was very surprised.

    4. Such a heart-warming story. It nice to see a different kind of love. This is how I like my ponies. I`m glad this didn`t turn out to be a shipping story. That would just ruin the charm.:)

    5. Author must be a very bad person...
"He gave her a look like a kicked puppy..."

      I mean... Seriously...
It does not speak of him well if he knows how kicked puppy looks like.

Really nice story by the way.Pity that it got spoiled in first comment.

    6. D'awwwww!

I had something a lot less innocent in mind, but a great read nonetheless!

well celestia isn't really twilight's mother, just her mentor, so i would expect her to be kinda nervous of calling the god-queen her mother even though she is the closest thing twilight has for a mother(that is assuming twilight doesn't actually have a mother for mothers day).

    9. I've kicked a small dog. It was biting me at the time. I've never kicked a puppy. But I think I know what a kicked puppy probably looks like. So I can imagine, and the author has given me a mental reference. (I have dealt with abused dogs, friend is a rescueperson type, so yah.)

Old school rabies shots were so much fun in the early 80s btw. Just saying.

    10. Saw a Twilight/Celestia story, then saw normal tag so thought it was safe to read. Beginning made me wary but loved where it went.

Truly I'm a bit worried about the cutie mark chronicles ep ruining my head canon that Celestia raised Twilight. I love that idea a lot.

In the story I thought it was pretty hilarious that Twilight is aware her mother figure reads trashy pseudo-porn.

    13. Loving this.
I had originally thought (and always wanted) Celestia and twilight to be mother-daughter.
Also LOL to celestia's affinity for dirty books

    14. Aww that was sweet, also the red herrings to a shipping story were hilarious.

    15. Celestia's love for dirty books, lol. I did not see that ending coming.

    16. I was going to quit halfway since I dislike most shipping stories. So glad that I didn't. I could totally see this as an episode once we start seeing pony parents.

    17. Loved the twist, well played sir, well played.

    18. Not sure how to respond to this one. The writing style is competent, character portrayal is good, the story's course and theme are good and the twist, while not impossible to see coming (you kinda give it away by coming on too strong with the ambiguous worries of Twilight about expressing her love), is well-done.

On the other hand...I just read a fic that carefully went through all the motions of a romantic shipping fic, then took all those statements and cues to make the reader think of Twilight loving Celestia romantically, and equated them with the love of a daughter for her mother. Am I the only one here that feels this connection to be a tad bit uncomfortable?

Well, perhaps I am, if the comments so far are any indication, so I'll dismiss it as it just being me, and not hold it against the fic. Decent and simple little story with some nice qualities. 3 Stars.

    19. Now that was a good read. Because of the typical way stories that SEEM to be going that way go, well, this got me pleasantly at the end! Thanks for sharing!

    20. I guess Twilight's fear of showing her feelings to the Princess makes sense considering Twilight. She lacks the ability to determine how other ponies would react to what she does, and just assumes the worst (as seen in Boast Busters and even A Bird in the Hoof.)

The twist was an interesting one, but unnecessary. It would have been a lot more cute if we were in on what Twilight was doing from the get go. But still very cute nonetheless!

    21. Hah! Have to admit, I was fooled. "Competent, in fact pretty nice, but the idea's kind of trite and implausible... hey, wait, what just happened? Oooooh, now it all works out just fine!" :D

      ReplyDelete
    22. Hee, excellent twist! Totally got me. Re-read it with the ending in mind, even better the second time around.

      ReplyDelete
    23. AWW! That's adorable! You totally suckered me, I didn't see the twist at all.

Also, Spike was awesome. He needs a thank-you garnet.

    24. @Anon1:
"Was that Twilight chickening out or what the story was about?"

First, geez, spoilers in the first comment...
That was what the story was about all along. Go back and read it from the top; nothing ever says anything about /romance/.

    25. NOW I HAVE DIABEETUS.

    26. That was beautiful. Well done, Moabite.

    27. I was like "Ew Twilight x Celestia? What's wrong with you guys?"

Then the ending. And I was like "D'awwwwwww"

But doesn't Twilight already have parents?

      ReplyDelete
    28. @Anonymous
Yeah, but this was written before The Cutie Mark Chronicles, so I didn't know that at the time.

      ReplyDelete
    29. alright. Who didn't give this 5 stars?

I'm glad I working my way through that fanfic spread sheet.

      I LOVE THIS

    30. D'aww, this was so sweet!

Also, nice twist; when I first started reading, I was thinking, "okay, Sethisto needs to go add the shipping tag to this," but then I thought that maybe something else was at work, so I waited until I finished reading. Not a total surprise, but still very touching and well written.

Secondary adopted parents. People sometimes see other figures as being their parents, even when they have them. And for all we know, her parents could be dead by now.

Ignoring the other comments you're definitely not the only one who squicked a bit inside. Though I confess I was also quick to chide myself for reading into it so much.

      Agreed, still very sweet.

    33. First reaction: "I think someone forgot to flag this as a shipping story, but I may as well finish it."

Second reaction: "Didn't see that coming, but it makes SO much sense."

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Twilight really does see Celestia as a foster mother (or a second one if her mother is still alive).

Also, I think I now know what to do if the subject of an alternate Celestia's Internet habits gets brought up in a story I'm currently working on.

    34. That was so cute. Too bad first comment spoiled the moment of "OOOH, d'aaawwwwww". That would make a great little compilation episode piece for pony parents day or something (although I would imagine applejacks would be sad)
