• MAST3RLINKX Videos Removed from Youtube by Hasbro

    This... Could be bad.

All the HD episodes (and many of the links in my side bar at that) Have been removed for copyright infringement from  MAST3RLINKX Youtube channel.

You can find the dreaded warning here..

I still see pensivepony's stuff up, so maybe it was something else? Hopefully it was something else?

I'm pretty sure half this fandom relies on streams to watch pony... They better have something planned for their massive following.  Season 2 will be bleak indeed without youtube.

Sadly I need to leave for work, so I won't be able to dig into this any deeper.  See you all in 6 hours!

    2. Most of the others are okay...at the moment...so I'm thinking it was just a CopyBot doing the usual 'Flag everything, claim to be from X' schtick.

      ReplyDelete
    3. Hasbro might be butthurt that this is what ponies are coming to, since they lurk this site and all.

      ReplyDelete
    4. Noooooooo ;_;

Seriously, they had better at least start site streaming better. Or make a Youtube Hasbro channel. That would be astounding.

      ReplyDelete
    5. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I'd been meaning to save them and didn't get around to it in time!

      ReplyDelete
    6. It'll probably blow over pretty quickly. I hope.

      ReplyDelete
    7. I subscribed to him/her not three hours ago. Seriously.

      ReplyDelete
    8. Well, I'm glad I got the chance to catch all the episodes before this happened. Downloading would have been tiresome (would have done it, of course). Hope Hasbro has an alternative that people can stream. Wouldn't mind commercials for it (not sure about paying for the individual episodes, unless it was like 50 cents per episode).

... Really? This is the darkest day? Damn, I envy you. I would trade your life for mine in a heartbeat if a guy's youtube videos being taken down is your darkest day. Your life sounds awesome.

      ReplyDelete
    11. Good thing i downloaded all the episodes up until now...

But, I am sorry for the loss :(

      ReplyDelete
    12. I imagine it's a question of retaining HQ-exclusivity.

      ReplyDelete
    13. We were watching in Synchtube when they disappeared. Still crazy in there at the moment.

      ReplyDelete
    14. I'm not gonna panic there are other youtube channels that upload MLP:FIM. Unless Hasbro gets them banned, then I will panic.

      ReplyDelete
    15. If I may quote Spike.. *ahem*... NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

      ReplyDelete
    16. I'm not surprised if they're targetting HD - THAT is the format they'll be making the money on if they sell DVD's or BD's. If I were Hasbro, I'd leave the SD quality alone (sells toys) and I probably WOULD go after the HD/HQ copies (otherwise more savvy buyers won't, allegedly), especially if they were rips from say itunes (which would mean you are very, very naughty ponies indeed).

Anyway, crossing all hooves, I'd not be surprised it was a bot, I would be surprised if they yanked everything (as I'm pretty sure they would have done so by now).

      ReplyDelete
    17. @Darkhawk1, maybe I've been really depressed lately and the only fun I have is watching a kids TV show and forgetting about taxes, war, work etc. for about a half an hour week. Or maybe it is an addition to other things that have happened today?

      ReplyDelete
    18. Hasbro removing ponies from the Internet?
This is blasphemy! This is madness!

      ReplyDelete
    19. I was watching one when it got taken down. I cried. This is like a death in the family to me. I live in Europe - no hub, and have been depressed. I rely on ponies on youtube for both happiness and entertainment and sexual release. I have no idea what i'll do now.

At least we still have Equestria Daily. Fanfics will get us through.

      ReplyDelete
    20. >>sexual release.

I wish I could hate you to death.

      ReplyDelete
    21. Well, now we at least know that Hasbro is a murderous little bitch. Seriously, haven't they grasped yet that the majority of the show's fans is made out of internet users watching the show online. Now, either they're gonna have to realize this and make up for it, or we're not a gonna see a second season of this because all the true fans will be held back from their daily dose of pony due to Hasbro ignoring facts.

      ReplyDelete
    22. Well if Hasbro makes a DVD I will buy it. What I suspect is that they won't, and will just be all around parasprites about it. Just remember that FRIENDSHIP is MAGIC!

      ReplyDelete
    23. @Anonymous

Dude! Relax! There are other accounts uploading episodes still! One account does not make this a crackdown! If it was, it'd've probably happened all at once!

      Geez, overreactions much?

It was probably just a bot being a dick and claiming to be a Hasbro rep! It happens all the damn time!

      ReplyDelete
    24. This is probably just how it was in August when chuggaaconroy and NCS were suspended, it was a bunch of trolls under a claim that they were the game company. I know it's a little off-topic but the point is made.

      ReplyDelete
    25. Calm down everypony, it's the Internet we're talking about.
Hasbro may take down our YouTube-Accounts, but they'll never take... OUR PONIES!

      ReplyDelete
    26. There are other Youtube channels, even HD ones to watch this on, provided this is a crackdown and not just some false-DMCA claim by someone pretending to be Hasbro or a bot. Even if all the channels went down, you really think that stop this stuff from being file shared?

      Relax until you know more.

      ReplyDelete
    27. >mfw I check his channel, see he's banned, come here to tell everypony the horrible news and it's already posted

      ReplyDelete
    28. Being in Europe sucks for this. We'll see how this evolves by tomorrow.

      ReplyDelete
    29. If they would take our freedoom it would be fine BUT if they take ponies from us they going down

      ReplyDelete
    30. FFFFFF! MASTERLINKX had such brilliant quality, too. ;_;

I hope this is A) Blows over, or B) At the very least doesn't get any worse...

      ReplyDelete
    31. @Darkhawk1 Well that was a dumb thing to post. He obviously didn't mean that literally.

      ReplyDelete
    32. COUNTER-LAWSUIT!!!

      ReplyDelete
    33. FU Hasbro! :(

Not sure if he is reading but I want to say thanks to MASTE3RLINKX for all the uploads, I have been watching ponies on his channel ever since I got hooked on this, especially loved him for uploading all 22mins in one video. ;-(

As someone else have mentioned before, in Europe we have no HUB, Youtube is our only source. :( Glad I have saved all the episodes until now.

But I feel no despair. I have all my faith in the Brony Brotherhood.
This is the internet. They can't lock us down.

      ReplyDelete
    34. Um... I think I might have noticed a difference between this channel and the others.

MAST3RLINKX had the first few episodes out unsplit. Isn't that against youtube policy or something?

      ReplyDelete
    35. nah lets just spam em into submission. Lawsuits take too long.

      ReplyDelete
    36. @Livi70590

Sorry, didn't think about that. Kind of been having a harsh time of it myself, and one of my personal pet peeves is when people get super dramatic about mundane events. "When that happened I litterally died!" "This is the worst day of my life!" "You're a monster!" So I appologize. Are we cool?

      ReplyDelete
    37. This is probably just a spambot trolling, no other channels were taken down.

      ReplyDelete
    38. @Pecan

That's very true! I didn't think about that!

      ReplyDelete
    39. Everyone stop panicking. If this were really Hasbro's doing, they probably wouldn't have flagged his channel three times after he's been doing this for months. It's probably just some flagging troll that's feeding off of your retarded panic, just like with Chugga's banning.
Besides, there are plenty of other sources with the show in HD.

      ReplyDelete
    40. @Darkhawk1

The reason I'm upset about this, is because until now I thought Hasbro was okay with the YouTube postings and the community. I thought they'd be different than other companies, and not possessive and paranoid about stuff being posted online.

MLP:FiM's main purpose is to SELL PONIES. The more people see it, the more ponies they will sell. It's really in their interest for this fandom to grow as much as possible so as many people as possible fall in love with it and buy products.

To see Hasbro pull this down and get rid of an easy way for people to discover ponies (nothing easier than YouTube) makes me sad; it's going to hurt the property AND the fandom.

I realize we'll still be able to GET the episodes, that isn't really the point.

      ReplyDelete
    41. Man this week has been crazy, the drama!

      ReplyDelete
    42. Failing all else, he can upload them elsewhere, like the rest of the internet does to avoid copyright.
I mean god videos DID exist on the internet befoer youtube.

      ReplyDelete
    43. I wanted to let everyone have a chance to watch and enjoy the show.

That is why I uploaded the episodes.
      I'm happy with the results.

Sorry it had to come down to this.
Hope you enjoyed the pony ride.

      ReplyDelete
    44. @Pecan

Older YouTube accounts can upload videos longer than 15 minutes. I got the notification for mine a few months ago.

Since most copyrighted material is posted by newer accounts, it ends up being split into 15 minute chunks.

      ReplyDelete
    45. and so it begins, the great shitstorm of our time.....

And thanks for the superb quality aswell! Your vids were the best quality around, really appreciated it :)

      ReplyDelete
    47. I don't think there's much to worry about. I've checked the other youtube channels that have the episodes and all of them are still up (with the exception of one channel that had the name "mlpepisodes"), I even found a channel with the iTunes versions. Plus even if all of them are taken down another user will just upload them again.

      ReplyDelete
    48. aw man, now how am i supposed to what a super girly show now that MASTERLINKX account is banned. THIS MAKES ME SO ANGRY THAT I WANNA KICK SOMETHING! *kicks a vase*

    55. @MASTERLINKX

Your copy of "Call of the Cutie" got me into the fandom to begin with.

So yeah, thanks for everything, man. Sorry that this had to happen.

    56. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm going to panic.

Time to download all my favorites before something happens to them.

      ReplyDelete
    57. @Anonymous Don't panic, brony. We're not going down that easily.

      ReplyDelete
    58. This really looks like a bot or something to that extent. I don't think Hasbro would tell Youtube multiple times that it wanted the videos taken down, at least, not like that. They would probably, if at all ask once and then start up a lawsuit train if they didn't Also, I don't know of any companies that refer to themselves as
[X], inc. I don't know if it's the norm to put an oddly placed comma in your name like that, but whatever.

      ReplyDelete
    59. They may take our accounts, but they will never take OUR PONIES!

      ReplyDelete
    60. @Cray0n

I am honestly sorry my princesses. PRINCESSES CELESTIA! towards a brighter future.

      ReplyDelete
    61. @MASTERLINKX

Could it possibly be a false claim by a bot or trolls pretending to be Hasbro, instead of Hasbro? To be honest, none of that would surprise me.

      ReplyDelete
    62. We all knew this was coming, people. It was only a matter of time.

      ReplyDelete
    63. The internet is full of nerds, haters, trolls, perverts, generaly the most unbelievable scum ever, all without a name and faceless.

Then came MLP:FiM and smuggled raindbows, innocent fun and laughter into their hearts.

Hasbro has no idea what they are up against.

      ReplyDelete
    64. *Sniff*

Common man. I've been following you since you did your video game videos. If it wasn't for you I would have never been able to do so many things if you never showed me the ponies. It can't just end like this! It just can't man!
I've been following you for so long. Changing and maturing with you in a way. It just breaks my heart to see things just... Go away? I can almost say you were a brother to me!

Say this aint the end. Say it aint so!

      ReplyDelete
    65. So... it begun. the Ponycoliptica...
I just hope this is something else, nothing against all of the episodes on youtube. Surely Hasbro should know that MLPFIM is mostly popular because of the internet. I hope they do not do any more of such actions.... not at least before the 5th season.
Some of mylittlepony1080p's episodes got banned as well... at least for my country.

      ReplyDelete
    66. I think people are overreacting; there are still multiple Youtube channels up that have episodes; and the hubworld rips and HD cable rips are still available from mentos.

Personally, I rip my own Hubworld copy each week, and have them all saved to my computer. That'll do until we get proper home format (hopefully Blu-Ray, in addition to DVD) releases.

      ReplyDelete
    67. I would appreciate it if everypony would stay calm until we know if it was Hasbro or a troll (i would bet on the second).
Starting a shitstorm (mailing Hasbro and so on) will probably only make things worse

    68. @Anonymous

....Dang right.....*cry* thats just true poetry!

      ReplyDelete
    69. @Spark

Exactly this. And for those people from 4chan who read this, STOP complaining about the Youtube takdown on Lauren Faust's dA site. That's NOT the way to accomplish anything.

      ReplyDelete
    70. mr.LINKX you are a brony among bronies, a sweet soul brony if you will.

      ReplyDelete
    71. @Anonymous I Concur, The thing is, the channel would have gotten a warning first. Outright banning the channel seems like a hasty step, AND ontop of that They would have only banned it in on region, Namely the regions that air the show.

      ReplyDelete
    72. As long as I get my mentos downloads, I'm happy. Still, this is a blow to the community, as that was probably the most active MLP account on YouTube. In my mind I imagine those anti-friendship fiends mass flagging the channel for copyright.. either way, SOMEONE isn't embracing sharing kindness.

      ReplyDelete
    73. Blowing this a little out of proportion are we?

      ReplyDelete
    74. If it is from Hasbro, maybe it's a sign they will release a Season Box Set after the first Season is over.

      ReplyDelete
    75. Hmm, it's probably Hasbro actually. All of MyLittlePony1080p's videos are being taken down. Oh well, I knew it was going to happen sometime

      ReplyDelete
    76. If we had the files to the episodes can't someone put them on a Ustream or something, or put them up for download on MediaFire or something?

      ReplyDelete
    77. It is during times like these that we should all...
      PARTY!!!!

      ReplyDelete
    78. Lest we forget, there is a
      MASTERLINKX and...
      MAST3RLINKX

Don't forget the difference between the users, everyone.

And MASTERLINKX, MAST3RLINKX is the one whose account is suspended, not yours.

I can only hope that Hasbro doesn't screw up with this series and actually start to realize how good the show truly is.

One reason I believe the episodes were removed is because maybe Hasbro thinks they are losing money because everyone would watch the show on youtube instead of the HUB?

      ReplyDelete
    79. Hasbro should but the show up on hulu or something like that...

      ReplyDelete
    80. To me, this seems to be because of the 1080p quality. The show itself doesn't air in that resolution, at least not on my service, so the episodes may have come from iTunes, where you'd have to pay for them. They needed to be taken down because some people were losing money.

This sucks, I had just started watching the episodes again but in HD and it was glorious.

      ReplyDelete
    81. @MidwestBrony

The show airs in 1080. There are 720 rips of iTunes available as well. He may have posted the 720's.

      ReplyDelete
    82. This does NOT make Luna happy. >:[

      ReplyDelete
    83. i ll miss you master

      ReplyDelete
    84. I hope this was just a troll causing trouble; if not.. well.. Hasbro would do well to release MLP on Blu-Ray. They could put HD and bonus features stuff on a fancy Blu-Ray set for "the fans", and then standard quality, single episodes on DVD that could be tossed into toy boxes or as promos or something.

I mean, heck, I bought a set of the toys (cause they looked the most show-accurate out of the ones at the local 'Mart.. except for Celestia being PINK..), and they included a booklet which was basically the pilot episode summarized, so they're already doing similarly!

Anyways, again, here's hopin' that this was just a bot overreacting or a troll or something.

      ReplyDelete
    85. Eyup, just checked. $2.99 per episode on iTunes for HD.

      ReplyDelete
    86. @MidwestBrony

      Aren't iTunes 720p; pretty sure they don't do 1080.

The cable rips by mentos are 1080, though. I imagine they came from there.

      ReplyDelete
    87. But what if ED is next?!
Cease-and-desist from Hasbro for dealing illicit copyrighted material?

It's a story that's all too common these days.

      ReplyDelete
    88. @Anonymous
They wouldn't take down a fan site.

      ReplyDelete
    89. Recently I checked the Hub's Official website and I found out that they have two episodes available streaming on the site ("Diamond Dogs" and "Green isn't your Color"). It could be possible that Hasbro is planning to put up all of the episodes on their site, and they wanted to get rid of the competition.

      ReplyDelete
    90. Oh man, I hope it's just a troll and not really Hasbro bringing the hammer down. Comcast doesn't have the Hub, so Youtube is the only place I can get my pony fix. =( And while I WOULD buy a DVD season set, I don't want to wait that long to see the episodes!

      ReplyDelete
    91. @Joey Waggoner

see the problem there is that only people in the U.S. can watch those videos.

      ReplyDelete
    92. @Joey Waggoner

They've had all the episodes up already, at one time or another. Back when the show began, the had quite a few. After they got to 9 or 10, though, they started taking down some of the older episodes and leaving only the newer ones available (along with the series premiere 2-parter). Now, they only keep the latest 2 or 3 up; saving bandwidth on their server, I'm sure.

If it is Hasbro behind this, I'd say it's more indicative that they have plans for a home video release on DVD and (hopefully) Blu-Ray.

      @Anonymous

I use a proxy to rip those every week, as they're by far the cleanest free copies of the episodes available online; works like a charm from Canada.

      ReplyDelete
    93. @sleepingcobrox

People would watch it on the Hub if 1)They could get it 2)The times weren't the middle of the day.

      ReplyDelete
    94. Actually "pensivepony" used to be "pensivepine" on YouTube. The Almighty Powers-That-Be suspended her pensivepine account after several weeks of posting pony episodes. She just went right ahead and registered as pensivepony and re-uploaded everything. She hasn't had any trouble since either.

I think this is what we will see periodically. Some massive archive of episodes will be suspended once in a while, but they won't be draconicly fanatic about removing pony content. There are TONS of FiM uploads from dozens of accounts on YouTube. There's no way to effectively control it. The grass always beats the pavement. ;)

SO in short - don't worry about it TOO much. :)

      ReplyDelete
    95. and also they only put them up two at a time. One for the current week, and the previous.

It might be hasbro but it might just be 4chan trolling the crap out of ponies.

Personally though I'm not too bothered. They'll pop up again. But hey, be nice to lauren, she doesn't control what anyone else does with the show really. I mean she wanted story arcs, hasbro said episodic. Show's still great but it could've been a bit more so with arcs.

      ReplyDelete
    96. @uthabitiPensivepine was suspended because it infringed another non hasbro copyright.

      ReplyDelete
    97. This may be paranoia taking over, and I hope to god that I'm the only one thinking this, but do you think it's just pony haters? Well, that wouldn't make sense, because if it was, all of the vids would be going bye-bye.

      ReplyDelete
    98. Everypony needs to calm down, this is clearly the work of one of the parasprites from the *chans, I'm talking about those pathetic "Operation: We are leeeeejuuunnn lulz" that they call 'raids'.

I've had stuff flagged before and removed, and the videos have been removed INSTANTLY when it's been due to a corporation requesting it to be taken down. I've never seen one of my video's get blocked, muted, or removed by more than one flag from a large business.

Master's channel went due to REPEATED flag reports, YT has a tendency to automatically suspend accounts that collect so many flags in any given period of time, without really looking into the situation. Knowing this, I'd say that a vast portion of the internet knows this too, and so, used it to their advantage to cause trouble.

This is NOT the actions of Hasbro, but in fact the work of a group of anons who still have it out for this fandom because of how it stormed the internet and their favourite boards.

Hasbro has been listening to this fanbase to an extent, and Faust has been listening to, as have the many people who worked on the show. This fandom's standing and relationship with the show's owners and creators has been pleasantly peaceful, so I do not believe that Hasbro has done this.

Moreover, we've had all episodes up on YT since the day each one has been aired, and now the videos are starting to disappear? If copyright was that much of a concern to Hasbro regarding MLP, then the episodes wouldn't have been available for so long, especially the earlier episodes.

My conclusion is that this is some "We are leeejun" bullshit, and shall blow over in a few days. I KNOW that many fans here have all episodes in at least SD, and if you fellows care about this fandom so much, you shall re-up the episodes on YT for those who haven't seen the episodes yet, and perhaps now a torrent of each episode shall materialise and appear on this blog too, to provide a little redundancy in case of future 'raids'

Calm down people, this is nothing to fear, nor is it something to be surprised by. We're on the internet, and we like something, for some reason, being on the internet and liking something is wrong to some people, and its those people who are targeting us.

      ReplyDelete
    99. Using Hubs site just seems ridiculous unless they have all the episodes up, cause without them all its not really MLP FiM, its more like MLP We're cheap on episodes so you gotta love us for that.

They better come out with a Box Set on Blu-Ray or Dvd cause most watchers of MLP FiM are at work or in class at the time its on or don't have the channel. Hell I would Kill WMG of Youtube for doing such a thing. Removing Mast3rLinkx was not cool, I had a whole folder saved in my bookmarks and was going to sit down and have a marathon with my buddies but no can do so they won't know what the hype is all about for MLP FiM.

So sad that if Hasbro actually did it, and even worse if it was a Hater/Troll/Bot.

Mast3rLinkx should get the episodes up on Megavideo or somewhere to share them if he has them in a folder on his CPU and have the link on the ED for all us Bronies and Ponies.

Celestiaspeed to us all if all hell breaks loose.

      ReplyDelete
    100. It can't be Hasbro.

Think about it: How does Hasbro make their money? Licensing My Little Pony, and selling toys. They profits from advertising during the show go to Discovery Networks/The Hub. Hasbro only has something to gain from the videos being on youtube for free. It attracts a wider audience (read: everyone on this blog).

So, don't worry. Some butthurt kids from 4chan probably flagged his channel since no one can have fun on the internet. I wouldn't be too worried about it.

      ReplyDelete
    101. Right, so if it isn't Hasbro, how would one get the channel restored?

      ReplyDelete
    102. Ok ok. Could someone enlighten me how this troll-banning works, I don't know much about this stuff.

You just go and report a user to YouTube for copyright stuff and bamm they bann? Or what?

      ReplyDelete
    103. Streams in SD are fine since it's free advertisement and everything. Keep in mind the demographic. If they can watch it all on YT with no quality loss, their parents won't buy home releases or even bother recording it.

    104. no one's targeting you. hasbro is just trying to protect their intellectual property and maybe assure you'll buy the dvd' s. If you all have hi-res videos from the net what reason would they have to release dvd's and have you buy them?

oh yeah, this is the internet. Home of thieves and broke-ass pirates.

      ReplyDelete
    105. Crap. Oh well, if they're a smart, responsible company, they'll only attack the high-quality uploads so that people will have to buy 'em off iTunes or something, and leave the lower-quality ones alone.

...Oh wait, not a single company I've ever seen in my entire life has ever been smart or responsible under circumstances where they feel threatened. EVER. All we can do is hope and pray to Celestia that nothing else happens like this.

But this travesty has resurfaced a rather recent memory for me. It had to do with another company that likes flaunting its power to the average consumer... Oh yeah, EA. Ever hear of their insidious "If you get banned in the forums, you get banned for real" rule? Where they can freeze your rights to use games you rightfully own if you don't watch your conduct in the EA forums? I don't really know what made me think of it, since EA is like the demonic plague of gaming and Hasbro isn't nearly that bad. But as soon as I read this, it just popped into my head. Oh well.

There are links to pretty much every single episode on the left hand side of Equestria Daily anyway, and all of them are working just fine.

Pretty sure MasterlinkX didn't have "1080" versions of the SD episodes anyway. People are seriously overreacting to what was more than likely just a troll spamming "I YAM HAZBRO PLZ 4 2 REMOVE VIDYA" emails.

    107. This might not be Hasbro at all. YouScrew can be EXTREMELY paranoid about anything that mgiht potentially maybe cause soemthing resembling a thing that could be viewed and maybe being a problem, so they do this now and then. Well companies still have to make a profit. if all you do is download pirated videos and don't PAY to watch cable or buy dvd's well guess what? The animation studio you love so much closes down and your precious pony show gets cancelled.

Anyway who cares the show is only gonna go downhill in the next year (you'll know why soon enough I'm sure )

The "1080" rips from cable don't look as good as the 720p videos from iTunes though, minus filter corrections. The cable rips are littered with artifacts and jaggies in comparison to the iTunes videos.

False. The "washed out colours" can be corrected with filters, and the sync issues were already corrected by iTunes. They even credited the people a free download of the episode again.

      Superior quality.

      ReplyDelete
    117. Both HD and cable pale in comparison to what could be seen on a Blu-Ray; which is why I hope the show gets a BD release alongside DVDs.

The cable rips, as stated, are littered with artifact and have poor colour accuracy (the Hubworld.com SD copies have better colour), and the iTunes "HD" is 720p, not real 1080p.

I call troll took the vids down is lurking these comments.

      ReplyDelete
    121. It's obviously either Hasbro having requested the episodes taken down, Youtube being paranoid, or a bunch of trolls who flagged the videos.

Personally I'm slightly inclined to think that he just collected a bunch of flags and was banned for that (Though why youtube likes to ban ponies who are good at Capture the Flag baffles me, but perhaps youtube's rules on Capture the Flag is like golf, with a lower score being better).

As for the ponies who are just outright panicing about this, stop just stop. Yes it's sad news, but it's not the end of Equestria folks. New episodes will come out, people will upload them, and we shall watch them. I was kinda expecting something like this to happen, mainly because youtube are paranoid pricks but also because the streams aren't excatly legal. (Well, not where the Hub airs at least) We're going to just have to deal with it, and next friday I'm sure ED will have the next episode's stream links up and running just as usual. Calm down and stop acting like Nightmare Moon has just returned with no way to stop her. You all are reacting to something that really isn't that big of a deal. I know a lot of people have said it before, but it's the truth. More episodes will come out, and subsequently uploaded to youtube and watched by the fans.

Oh, and also to the people who say the show is /just/ a large commercial for the toys you forget that the show is making money for Hasbro as well. If this IS Hasbro, then they are clearly trying to cover their assests in the show. Yes having the shows on the internet is indeed free, BUT! It also doesn't pay them anything in return. It's the reason why people are paranoid about other people using their creative property, it doesn't make them any money. For everypony out there who thinks that when a company puts a TV show on the air they don't get paid for it, you're wrong. They do get paid for it, but only for people who watch the show. As such, Hasbro gets paid for everypony who tunes into the Hub during the hours MLP is on, but doesn't see a dime for anything on youtube.

      You know what that's bullship!

First off there's not really many ways to support them if they take it down without dvd

I watched all the 1080 eps on youtube but I also bought as many eps as I could afford off itunes. Even tho I didn't need to because I got them free I decided to suport the show and I know im not the only one.

Hasbro has nothing to loose wen there soul purpose is to sell toys. They even stated that and you know what I also bought the toys. So I sunk money into this show aswell as a few friends and none of us would have know if it wasn't for youtube. proving that weather its good or not this move is costing hasbro money!

Blu-Ray can only show what's already there. It can not create new content to fill in the gaps. The show is created in flash, and what is sent to the channel is probably exactly what they have on their computers. The cable rips you speak of are probably just badly compressed.

      ReplyDelete
    129. A DVD is at least possible, but a bluray release of a children's cartoon series like My Little Pony? Never going to happen.

      ReplyDelete
    130. @Anonymous

Hasbro aren't the *only* makers of MLP. Not FiM at least.

Discovery Communications, the people who own the channel it's aired on, and who more than likely mostly funded it, probably have a bigger say in the distribution of episodes. Then there's Studio B, the folks who *make* it...

      ReplyDelete
    131. @Kendra Kirai

Which is exactly why they pale in comparison to what Blu-Ray can offer. HD cable just can't pull off the bitrates that Blu-Ray can, and artifacting isn't an issue with Blu-Ray.

It can't create new content, but Blu-Ray is capable of presenting what content is there FAR better than cable can, or will be able to do for the immediate future.

It also seems as if most HD cable uses MPEG-2 as a codec, which is vastly inferior to the H.264 generally preferred for use on Blu-Rays.

Blu-Ray is becoming much more common these days; many Blu-Ray sets are only a couple dollars more than the equivalent DVD on their release date. The show is animated in HD quality, it's broadcast in HD quality, and it's been made available online through iTunes in (more-or-less) HD quality. Releasing it on an HD home format isn't that far off.

So you can't be thankful that many other people have episodes in perfectly good quality? Because I find that sad and ungrateful.

If Hasbro's only taking down 1080p, then fine with me. All that matters is being able to watch pony at an acceptable quality; if I wanted HQ, I'd gladly fork out 2.99 per HD episode on iTunes.

      ReplyDelete
    138. @Anonymous

My point is that they're probably already SHOWING us everything there is to see! It's made with friggin' Flash! There is nothing there that isn't put there! Yes, the animation is good, but it's not a damn theatrical-quality release with a budget of millions per episode!

DVD release? Sure, definitely. Blu-Ray? C'mon, that's *really* pushing it. You may as well want a Blu-Ray of....of the Scooby Doo cartoons! Or the original Transformers series! You want to see the animation errors even *clearer*?

      ReplyDelete
    139. Blu-ray is overkill for a flash-cartoon, even one as well done as this.

      ReplyDelete
    140. @Kendra Kirai

What I want is the show on a relatively high-quality format; and DVD isn't that. If I'm watching on an SDTV then sure, DVDs would be enough. Hell, taking the 360p Hubworld rips burning them to a DVD would be enough to result in decent quality.

On a high-end 1080p television? DVDs look like crap. Admittedly, a flash cartoon like this would upscale on an HD set much better than live-action, but why not strive to have it on the best format possible?

There's more to HD than just detail. The type of detail you're talking about is relevant to live-action, and some forms of theatrical animation. What I want FiM on Blu-Ray for is clean lines, a crisp image, and rich, accurate colour. Blu-Ray is better able to provide that than DVD; even for a television-budget series.

Have you not seen the many vector traces done of those show on dA? THAT's what Blu-Ray would look like, for every frame; and that's what I'd like to see. Since a regular DVD release is a certainty (and I would buy it, were it the only option), I see no value in discussing or pushing Hasbro for something we're sure to get.

As has been pointed out, a Blu-Ray release ISN'T a certainty, so I feel it's worthwhile to make my opinion on the subject known to Hasbro (though we all realize this has little to no impact; it's my time).

Sorry, but I have to disagree with your stance. You're entitled to your opinion, and so am I. I simply don't understand why anyone should have to settle for DVD when Blu-Ray is only marginally more expensive, drastically superior in terms of quality, and the show is animated IN HD.

Even for a mere flash cartoon, there's a big diffference between HD and SD.

      ReplyDelete
    141. @Sandman

That's a matter of opinion. In the late 90s, I'm sure many people would've said DVD was overkill for most things. I'm sure almost EVERYONE would've said releasing an entire year's worth of episodes of a TV show on a home video format was overkill. Today, it's standard practice.

It's all a matter of perspective.

      ReplyDelete
    142. A lot of people are saying that trolls are using spambots to report these videos. They say Hasbro doesn't own the rights to the show, and Faust says that she doesn't mind it on YouTube. I'm not sure what to think. This is just what I heard.

      ReplyDelete
    143. I'm laughing at the people who say the show will lose fans, and how they CAN'T watch the show anymore. It's still up in SD.

If you want to watch the show in HD, pay for it. If you just want to watch the show, watch it in SD.

It's not like there's people out there that're like "I really like your show but only in HD and for free and now I can't so I won't watch it anymore! >:(" And if there are... then that may be the reason the vids were taken down.

      ReplyDelete
    144. If only if hasbro had their own official youtube channel with the episodes in HD. then that would change everything. just a suggestion.

      ReplyDelete
    145. While I am a bit bummed by this, I really don't see it as that much of a problem. I don't watch any of the others /co/ type shows I follow on the TV (or any show for that matter) and while youtube is convenient there's no reason why we can't get by on downloads like everyone else.

It's hardly the end of the world, and Hasbro is well within their rights to put their foot down if they want to. If this is some kind of a sign that they might have turned around on the issue of actually putting out a DVD release, I'd even go do far as to call this a good thing, or at least the early beginning of one.

Yes, I believe they have. However, iTunes is still about the worst possible venue for purchasing digital video content, whether in SD or HD. DRM-infested, limited to a very specific range of devices, only semi-HD 720p resolution when you do want HD, and much more expensive than it has any right being for an intangible digital distribution format.

Also, it forces you to deal with Apple. Personally, that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I`m waiting for the show on a disc format.

Because iTunes is the worst possible way to buy digital video, as has already been said. It's crippled by DRM, limited to use either on computers or Apple devices only, and finally it forces you to do business with Apple.

I'll buy it when it's released to disc. I'm not giving Apple money for crippled, intangible, overpriced files.

    171. my guess as to why hasbro did this is that as season 1 is coming to an end, they want to release DVDs/BDs with the eps on and there gonna lose monies if people cans stream them in that quality for free. so they would probably leave the SD quality ones alone. at the end of the day, they are still a massive company wanting to make money, but this is still a very sad day

If there was no DRM on their videos I'd probably buy it in an instant. Having no way to play it on my TV without illegally removing said DRM, or paying another $100 for an Apple TV accessory, seems ridiculous to me.

The chances are much higher that this was the work of a troll.

The hubworld videos are 640x360; basically standard definition television resolution, accounting for its widescreen format. Thanks to being digital and progressive scan, though, it's about as clean as a DVD transfer.

HD video is 1920x1080, which is 9x the number of pixels as the Hubworld copies. The Hubworld copies are nice... in fact their colours are better than HD cable rips Mentos uploads thanks to a lack of over-transcoding and using a superior codec, but they're certainly not HD, lol.
