Securing Star Swirl's spell, she is on her way back to the past with the intention of altering the timeline. She had calculated every step she was going to take with a hundred percent of success.
However, a calculation can derail if you miss so much as a negative sign in the process, and Starlight forgot to account for that negative sign.
