• Review: Royal Pony Wedding DVD

As many of you already know, the Royal Canterlot Wedding DVD will be available on August 7th.  Unlike the Australian sets, these follow specific themes.  Most of the episodes in this one take place in Canterlot, aside from Hearts and Hooves Day.  I don't know if it was intentional, but all of the episodes also include at least one major song.

Head on down past the break for my full review on the Royal Pony Wedding!

Similiar to Friendship Express, you can expect to find five episodes housed within:
    • A Canterlot Wedding Part 1
    • A Canterlot Wedding Part 2
    • Hearts and Hooves Day
    • Sweet & Elite
    • The Best Night Ever
And of course the bonus features:
    • Extended Love is in Bloom Singalong
    • Hearts and Hooves Day Singalong
Both of them use relatively large text, so it should be easy to display it for a group at a meetup if everyone doesn't already know the words.  I admit, actually following the text taught me a few lines I didn't even realize they said! One thing that did bug me a bit was the huge pink box that the subtitles are surrounded by.  It blocks off about 1/3 of the picture.  But I guess the main point of these is to sing, not watch!

The first coloring page is actually pretty interesting.   Nine different versions of Cadence are laid out, each swapping limbs/hair/clothing in from other ponies.  It's a simple matching puzzle targeted toward kids, but I'm sure most of you will get a kick out of the Cadence with Swiss cheese Chrysalis legs. It's pretty goofy looking!

I dug through all the episodes double checking for any sound issues (just in case!) and didn't find anything losing sync.   Looks like they nailed that one after the Friendship Express stuff!

And for all you stat junkies out there, have some information on that:

    Duration: 2 Hours
    Sound: 2.0 Stereo
    Format: 1.78:1 Anamorphic Widescreen

I'm still hoping to see them produce a Blu-ray set some day with full 1080.  We will buy it, Hasbro!

Overall, it's a solid buy for just $11.99 on Amazon.  The season finale alone is worth that, and the other three episodes aren't exactly weak ones in the Friendship is Magic lineup.

I have heard from quite a few people that certain stores are releasing it early, so you may want to try calling some nearby DVD places if you don't want to wait!

And just a reminder, head on over to this page for information on how you can potentially win one!
