Didn't really care much for this version. It's poorly edited, sounds like something that was thrown together as a mishmash at points. With the overproduced and under-harmonized second season intro, the first season theme remains supreme.

Wow its one of those things where its really chessy but it works. The puns were pretty glorious though.
I like it, though yes, it does need polish. I think this version of the theme was made a long time ago, even before the incarnation that made it to the show.
It just needs some refinement--but even if its' never changed, it's going straight into my ipod.

The intro always struck me as the least enjoyable part of the show. This is more schmaltzy than the basic version, so I have to say I am not getting much out of this.

I think the only thing better than this intro is the fact that so many of us are so happy right now. I think no matter what curveballs get thrown at us, we can always find a new reason to smile.

The extended opening isn't as well polished as the one we currently have, but I'd guess that's because they couldn't afford to spend that much time and energy on just a DVD extra. I still enjoyed it all the same, although the Fluttershy pun made me wince. (We need Spike to help out, he's good with working with the names of the ponies.)

I'm glad to see that FIM is following in the tradition of so many great shows by having a longer "CD version" theme song. Some of my all time favorites had full-length themes like that.

I have to agree with a couple of other comments here. The lyrics sounded forced, and it just felt long. It's just not as exciting as the Italian opening, but it is as long. I think if they aired this I would just be wishing that they would finish it and get to the show, especially after a full minute of it.

I hate to say it but i never really liked the Intro... but... wow. That was really good. Not as good as the Italian Intro though. Theres a song called "Rainbow Dash Likes Girls" that combines them, and switches between both quite a lot, and pretty successfully.
You may not realize it at first, but Winter wrap-up and the Theme song are almost identical in rhythm and scale, you could play the melodies one after the other and the average non-brony probably couldnt tell that they werent just one song
That was certainly better than I was expecting. The musical arrangement certainly adds to it. Two hooves up!
Of course, as others are saying, it's still not quite the Italian theme. Suitably Pony, yet epic enough that you almost expect it to be played during the series finale as the climactic showdown reaches its Gainax Ending conclusion.
Still: Those puns. Those terrible, wonderful puns. I fully approve.
