• Derpy HAS been modified

Earlier a post went up pointing out that The Last Roundup was released on iTunes finally.  Sadly, it looks like she was actually modified.  Her voice is different, and Rainbow Dash no longer names her.

This was in the SD version, I am not sure if the HD on my laptop is different.  I am currently re-downloading it in HD To double check on my computer.

You can find the new Derpy after the break.

UPDATE: Both versions of the episode have been modified.

UPDATE 2: As a reminder, The Friendship Express DVD is untouched, Derpy is still Derpy (At least in the ones we got, which are pretty much the same as far as we know)

    1. Meh the new voice is alright, but I liked the old one. It could have been a bit more feminine but the new voice doesn't have enough emotion. and taking out her name is just wrong. Not a lot of love and tolerance at Hasbro atm...

    2. I do not like it. In fact. I broke out in a violent and psychotic bout of twitching and felt this urge to blow up the iTunes servers. Please change it back.

    3. Woah nelly! Hold yer horses!
They changed Derpy, so therefore OBVIOUSLY nothing actually changed!
Lets all sit in a love circle and kiss Hasbro's anus and not blame anyone.

      Dərp?

Hasbro did this. There is no denying the fact. I am angry at them. I am going to express that anger. I want the show to continue, so I will continue to buy merch, but I WILL voice my complaints to the company and express how they have dissatisfied my interests.

      Simple as that.

Also... Hasbro... you are big floppy donkey dicks.

    5. you know the audio reminded me of when they censor swears in movie on tv by dubbing over them horribly.

    6. My feelings are a bit mixed.

I loved that original scene not for the voice but for the obvious shout out to us bronies. It just felt good to be acknowledged like that. It hurts to think that it may of caused some pain for the creative team.

I actually like that her eyes are mostly normal but still do derp a bit, like after she knocks of a bit more of town hall.

My biggest complaint is that it sounds so obviously edited. Rainbow does not even sound like herself. For the most part I liked her old voice. The old "oops my bad" was so perfect but I found "nice work Rainbow Dash" to be a bit grating (no offense Tabitha), it was very cute over all. The new voice is OK but the deliver felt rushed, like they only had 10 minutes to do the whole thing with no retakes.

Her name getting cut sucks, no other way to put it.

I'm also concerned in what this may say about Executive meddling in future Episodes. A big part of what made this show so great is that Hasbro seemed pretty hands off and just let the talented team at StudioB/DHX do their thing. I also hope no one on the team got in any sort of trouble over this. Basically I can live with this as long as there is no great impact on future episodes or the relationship between Hasbro and StudioB/DHX, nothing but love for them now and forever.

    7. "Dear Princess Celestia,

Today I learned that somepony who looks a little different, and may be a little clumsy at times (despite always doing their best), is *unquestionably* - mentally challenged.

Instead of 'loving', 'tolerating', or more importantly, 'accepting' these ponies, and then teaching our young fillies to do the same -- we should just fix these undesirable imperfections and hope that they will bring less attention to themselves.

      Your faithful student, Twilight Sparkle."

    8. Hmmmmm......hopefully this has more to do with Tabitha misidentifying Derpy as female than it does with anything about her name. It just worries me that Rainbow didn't call Derpy by her name. Still, the (canonical) episode using her name already aired, and it's not like they renamed her in this clip or anything.

    9. 'It's true some days are dark and lonely, and maybe you feel sad but Pinkie will be there to show you that it isn't that bad.'

We always feel worse when something is given to us, then taken away. Just think, would you really be happier if the original Derpy scene had never existed? I'm sure nopony would.

Lets all remember the wonderful shout out to the fans that the scene was, and heck, if it's too brony for the manestream audience then so be it.

Thanks to everyone who made the scene in the first place. It made us smile so much, we will never forget it!

      ReplyDelete
    10. watching this made me realize how good Tabitha is at voiceacting, this new verison...

      ReplyDelete
    11. @Adrian Brony

I read it. I disagree. Just because someone from the show feels that way doesn't mean I should. The show was censored, bottom line.

      ReplyDelete
    12. Man ... this sucks ! The new voice acting feels so forced. I either wanted Derpy to be extremely smart or the kind of Derpy we had before it was changed. We cant have that normal voice and the ditzy behavior, doesn't work! My week just got 120% uncooler.

      ReplyDelete
    13. This makes me want to punch so many things. Burn it. Burn it with fire and absinthe.

      ReplyDelete
    14. Hasbro... why? :(

If Derpy is going to have normal eyes and a normal voice, I don't want her to exist. We loved the derped, silly, funny Derpy... not this >_<

And all because of a bunch of oversensitive people that felt offended by nothing. Lame U_U

      ReplyDelete
    15. I actually felt a little bit happier knowing that probably 70% of the production team were outraged by this, but they obviously had no choice, blame the head of Hasbro, not the majority :D

      ReplyDelete
    16. Clearly we need somepony to do a bit of editorial splicing; swap the "careful Derpy!" line back in, swap in the footage with the derped eyes, but keep the new voice. For those that like the new voice, that is (I'm on the fence for both voices...)

      ReplyDelete
    17. We'll the new voice ain't that bad it sorta suits her more cause she sounds a bit more girl like but why cut her name out and underp her eyes on the last roundup they could have just not included hey name and not derp her eyes in future episodes. Short answer they should of let the fans just have this episode with derped derby.

      ReplyDelete
    18. What the heck have they done? New voice and such stuff edited? This is terrible, not only that her name is edited out and she got new voice, it itself is out of sync... This is the first bad things Hasbro has done, IMO! WHY was this needed?

      ReplyDelete
    19. They un-derped Derpy! Now she's just... Y. :C

      ReplyDelete
    20. Her new voice is PERFECT.

Now we just need somepony to merge old and new versions, so we can have our derpy Derpy named Derpy with a sweet new voice.

      ReplyDelete
    21. okay, REALLY BIG IMPROVEMENT for the voice. I like this voice more.. no, I love this voice. But, why the underped eyes? and WHY doesn't RD call her Derpy? WHY

      ReplyDelete
    22. My suspicions (which may have already been mentioned) is it was Apple's lawyers that probably had the problem with Derpy's name, voice and eyes and 'recommended' the change.
No offence to all the Americans, but when someone complains in your country they don't do it quietly and I've not seen anyone make a big deal out of it (besides the 'don't change her' stuff from us).

      ReplyDelete
    23. Meh, I agree the old one was a bit low; but it was much closer to what felt right then this new one. This one's a little too high pitched. Just my opinion.

I'm a little more concerned that this was an issue with some people to begin with, the offended people. If it was because people assumed Derpy was retarded and not some unforeseen reason; it sounds like another case of people assuming ditsy characters who act stupid are somehow mentally retarded, a clear misinterpretation of meaning, and acting as if any portrail or the mentally retarded is inherently harmful.

This could have been all easily fixed by having her reappear in a later episode with a more stable, yet ditsy, speaking role.

(though knowing this culture, not likely)

      ReplyDelete
    24. Ha-ha. Enjoy your Ditzy, bronies.

      Good voice. I love this.

      ReplyDelete
    25. New voice is significantly less awkward to listen to than the old, if a bit lacking in character. More or less props there.

To bad it wasn't just done as a honest voice correction and is instead done with all these other changes as part of some politically correct rebranding or whatever. All in all makes what could have been a positive mistake correction into a flat characterless appeasement package. Defiantly not the end of the world though.

      ReplyDelete
    26. @AJ2412
Yeah i thought that too... but they cannot change her eyes, or in the next episode even her bahviour. if we let this through they'll change her completely :(

      ReplyDelete
    27. Maybe Derpy was clumsy. Maybe she wasn't the brightest pony. But we loved her.

Truly, I didn't care for Tabitha's original voicing of the character. Derpy wasn't supposed to be male. But...it was strangely appropriate that a character who was the result of an animation error, and fan-named named for a mistake...also be voiced by mistaken gender.

I can forgive the voice change. She's female now. But changing her eyes and taking away her name...I'm not sure if she's really Derpy anymore.

      We want Derpy back.

      ReplyDelete
    28. We've all got to settle for compromises :/ Anyway, I prefer this voice ^.^

      ReplyDelete
    29. They changed her eyes too...
I am dissapoint. I have the original though. I really hope its just Apple being a pain and the dvds will be normal. If not... Well this might sway my descision into not buying them.

      ReplyDelete
    30. I am actually upset about this....and I'm never upset about anything! :(

      ReplyDelete
    31. I think her voice is good the way it is now. When I first watched the episode, I thought "Okay, that's mean and over the top." The new version makes her look like a totally clumsy and slightly slow-brained pony. The old one made her look like a complete retard, which wasn't funny at all.

What's not okay is removing her name.

      ReplyDelete
    32. I could accept the new voice (grudgingly) I might even accept not calling her derpy (Very Reluctantly) But underping her eyes? What the hell? are they gonna go back and change her eyes in the earlier episodes too?

This... this makes me feel very sad. Just when we finally got recognition for our love of the character, they snuff her out :(.

      We Must save Derpy.

      ReplyDelete
    33. My only wish was that they put some love and effort into the scene instead of rushing to make a shout-out at expense of writing and character.

Don't care about the eyes or the name. Care about a good show.

      ReplyDelete
    34. maybe its just me, but i dont care about derpy at all

      ReplyDelete
    35. Bring the name back, but otherwise...I like it

      ReplyDelete
    36. Well, NOW that's insulting for disables...

      ReplyDelete
    37. @Dallen, it's not Derpy who is offensive or not - this change is offensive. It says that there's no place for clumsy people with crossed eyes and they have to be edited out. Sad.

      ReplyDelete
    38. I'm glad I downloaded the episode before they underped her. Derpy needs to derp.

      ReplyDelete
    39. so this post was at 2 stars and now it's climbing back up? XD lol guess some people LOVE the change after all =D

      ReplyDelete
    40. "My only wish was that they put some love and effort into the scene instead of rushing to make a shout-out at expense of writing and character."

Disagreed. It was a long time coming and I thought it was well thought out.

A select few who whined and complained does not represent the vast majority who were only happy she turned up at all + all the wackiness to boot. Any character depth would have come from perhaps a Derpy episode down the line. At this rate, we're just going to get a Derpy-Lite now.

      ReplyDelete
    41. "maybe its just me, but i dont care about derpy at all"

I don't care if people care about her or not. That's not the issue. The issue is Hasbro/Apple or whomever is in charge kneeling down before a bunch of complainers and whiners. The worst parts of the fandom instead of the best parts which is the vast majority.

I just hope they don't turn this show into Mary Sue oldschool MLP because of it. Any time they meddle with creator-content, that should worry anyone. It's not even about Derpy at this point or what people think of it. Because clearly they weren't listening to us.

      ReplyDelete
    42. I wonder if anyone's doing a "Some unseen force is trying to wink Derpy out of existence" fic. Obviously this is a job for Doctor Whooves.

      ReplyDelete
    43. @ShippoyashaYou know, that they probably just didn't want any kind of problems with "angry" people who been "offended"? It's just easier for them to modify derpy and call it done. It's good thing for them, not so much for enraged fans, and completely neutral to casual fans who love mlp for what it is, instead of pouring hate on everybody. Sure derpy is nice and fandom shout out and whatever, but she's not main character. Is something really changed? She maybe not called Derpy, but she definitely less retarded right now. If Derpy = fandom, don't you think it means that we are retarded? Some people sure so.

      ReplyDelete
    44. Disappointed to see that Hasbro cares more for their "image" than their fans.

      ReplyDelete
    45. I know I'm supposed to love and tolerate, but to all you fake bronies that bitched to Hasbro about Derpy being offensive: FUCK YOU. Seriously, I hope you fucking get brain cancer. Sincerely I hope this with all my heart. I fucking hate you with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. Get raped with a nailbat you shitbags.

      And Hasbro, I am disappoint.

    47. I'm not a huge fan of the new voice - but to be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of the old voice either. I'm more disappointed at the alteration of some of Rainbow Dash's lines, they don't flow nearly as well anymore.

But as much as I dislike the idea of censorship in general, this isn't an earth-shattering change or anything. The Last Roundup would have been among the best episodes even if the Derpy scene had never existed.

      ReplyDelete
    48. I suspect they may have changed the name for copyright reasons. And technically she is still Derpy, guys, she's just still unnamed for now. Plus, they might have changed the voice b/c the voice actress originally mistook Derpy for a guy.
I liked the original better to, but I highly doubt they changed it just for trolls.

      ReplyDelete
    49. To be fair I find derpy more offensive now than before. I mean before when I first saw her talk I laughed. Alot happy as I was I found it really nice they actually named her Derpy. But I guess we'd have to live with the imagine that we know the "unaltered" version. Sad that they've changed her even "dumber" without any personality (Derpy def had the right personality before).

I wouldnt understand why Hasbro would listen, but I dont know why they did it. All I'm gonna do is remember the true scene and be happy :(.

      ReplyDelete
    50. Derpy just became 20% more lame :(
      Not cool Hasbro

      ReplyDelete
    51. While the Voice is better, loosing derp-eyes and the mention of the name is just sad. ;__;

      ReplyDelete
    52. I really don't mind it at all, I still prefer the orginal but i don't belive hasbro would have done it without good reason. If she's still gonna be derp eye'd in the background of new episodes thats good enougth for me.

      ReplyDelete
    53. Uploaders, torrenters and "pirates" should just not take this episode up. Let it remain the case that the only place you can get this new version is in iTunes. And people who buy the season pass can still get the original version in perfect iTunes quality from elsewhere.

And we'll see which version is more well-known and widely spread in a year's time.

Just, those of you that upload episodes, don't distribute this version. At all.

      ReplyDelete
    54. This is fantastic. This is just bucking FANTASTIC! When I joined the fandom half a year ago I didn't see any kind of controversy or fight or anything: they all loved the show and they liked how it was evolving. I never expected such a unbelievable (in the bad sense)thing could happen. I never expected that the greatest thing that a studio has ever done to embrace its fans and make them happy could be destructed with such easiness.
All of you who were against Derpy! I got something to tell you. Congratulations. You just proved how UNGRATEFUL you are by not only crushing completely the most wonderful thing Hasbro has done for us but also by crushing most prossibilities we had of seeing something similar in the future since now Hasbro nows what happens when they give us something expecting only our happiness in return and I bet they are less likely to do something like this again. In my eyes you're just a bunch of ungrateful dicks and trolls that doesn't deserve to be called bronies and I want you out of the Herd RIGHT NOW!!!!!
      Greetings from Spain.

    56. The new voice is better. But that's all.

Putting Derpy, mentionning her name, making her derp, and then cancel everything as if nothing has ever happened, no, that was stupid.

      ReplyDelete
    57. @That Girl With The Hat

Damn right; speaking as someone who encouraged people to pony up and buy from itunes.

The new version should not be available for download anywhere. If you really want it, you can register your approval for the change by buying it from iTunes.

And if you buy the season pass and you want the original, then you can get it, and IMHO that's entirely legitimate.

      /sad

      ReplyDelete
    61. @Harvey Stanhope

It's not just you; but a few people seem to get the idea that there were a "lot of whiney idiots". As far as I can tell, the people who actually objected in any substantial way to the original were very very few and far between. Meanwhile over 27,000 of us signed up to leave things as they were; and while some people now seem to prefer the new voice (I don't - yes, it sounds more female, but also completely bland and anodyne) the overwhelming opinion here is that it did not need to happen.

Someone high-up at hasbro. Not the production crew. Only someone on a higher pay-grade than that could do something so bone-headedly corporately stupid.

    64. What does upset me is I visited the alleged complainer's tumblr, and discovered what I considered to be a closed minded, opinionated ass who was stating "as fact" her interpretation of why we like Derpy. Honestly, Derpy would have a better chance of hitting the mark. Add to this, the alleged complainer also writes a comic that is no doubt offensive to many people. It offends me, and did the first time I saw it years ago. Perhaps if I complain about being offended enough, I can get the internet to force her to modify her comic. But of course that won't happen, because she doesn't think she has to answer to anyone.

      ReplyDelete

    66. I'm guessing the rage that's going to (or already has?) result from this change will make the original handful complaints from "political correctness" fags seem like a speck of dust in comparison.

I very rarely care what Hasbro (or anyone else) choose to do, but this, frankly, makes me seethe. I hope whoever originally complained to Hasbro, and whoever ordered this change dies and burns in hell with the fire of a thousand suns for eternity.

      ReplyDelete
    67. A nameless secondary character. That's what she is now. Congratulations, whiners, you guys did it. No more Derpy, just a normal background pony. Also, she no longer has her so famous crossed-eyes, the whole reason why she became the show's most popular background pony.

But the only bright spot to me in all of this is that they didn't change her name to "Ditzy". Nah, that would be far too maddening.

      @Cátsy

It's only at 2.3 Stars. Don't get your hopes up.

      ReplyDelete
    68. Now it'd be funny if Bronies with 'imperfections' pooled together money to make an ad on TV about who they are, what they have, and why them doing this to Derpy is a global insult to anyone with a birth defect or mental handicap.

Pool all these people together to say in as detailed a way as to why this insult is beyond intolerable.

MAKE DERPY THE WAY SHE WAS OR KEEP HER SILENT! the new VA is by far just an air head blode and it makes Derpy look stupid. And that crappy uninspired white-girl Woo~hoo! at the end was the worst ever attempt at a cheer ever, it sounded so so so so so so so horrendous.

Now THAT really made Derpy look and feel like she was mentally retarded. Tabitha at least had the heart and passion to do something with Derpy's character and give her some love and dignity. That new VA needs to go back to being background voices for PBS shows.

      ReplyDelete

      ReplyDelete
    71. Well this is pretty much the blunder of the century right here.

Two things I'm curious about, 1. how is this less offensive than the old version and 2. who exactly was it that pressured Hasbro into changing it? I feel like if someone has the power to piss this many people off, we deserve to hear their names.

      ReplyDelete
    72. Now, I'm going to go ahead and say that I think the raging death threats and "burn in hell" comments are serious overreactions, as are the "RUINED FOREVER" cries.

That said, however, I'm pretty damn pissed about this. It's completely unnecessary, and blatant PC bullshit to boot. I'm not about to abandon the show, but like hell am I buying the damn episode like this. It will be, to date, one of only two episodes I didn't buy on iTunes.

      ReplyDelete
    73. I love her new voice, but they shouldn't have underped her eyes.Fine if they don't want to name her Derpy, but don't change the eyes!

      ReplyDelete
    74. this.... hurts my feelings a little. how absurd, right? but it does. I get the voice change - it was a derp in itself, initially, and I have to say I like the new one better, personally. I also get the name deletion, though I don't like it - giving characters fanon names in canon is bad copyright juju and all that.

but why'd they have to underp her eyes? that is what gets me - it was so unnecessary. the other changes alone would have been sufficient to insulate Hasbro from any accusation of ableism (assuming there really were any; I've heard the name "Yamino" bandied about as some kind of perverse scapegoat totem but I've seen no proof either way and refuse to believe that one person offended in good faith is or could ever be remotely responsible for this); that's what makes it seem like they're purposefully, directly rescinding their acknowledgement of us and consigning us back to the freaks-and-weirdos dustbin of fandom irrelevance.

      but why?

I'm sorry, Hasbro. whatever we did, I'm sorry. I really... just don't know what went wrong.

I guess today we're all Derpy Hooves.

    75. I thought that America was a Democracy, but it seems that one voice speeks louder than the masses and all you have to say is "I find it Ofensive to my (insert Group)" its pathetic realy. im not american so i cant do alot, but i ask for some American to start a Loby group and loby the Senate to stop this madness, and say "I find what they did to Derpy Ofensive to Bronies, we are the ones that buy your merchandise" because what they did to Derpy IS retarded

      ReplyDelete
    76. @StrangeNoise Even if it has been Hasbro who has changed the voice (which personally I don't like) and underped the eyes (which I find really silly because she have been having those eyes all this time) you can't ignore the fact that if that little group of people hadn't complained this could have not happended.

      ReplyDelete
    77. If they'd used the new version already at the first showing, we all would have been cheering them for it. However, they showed the original version first, and that's what fans will remember forever, because its the original, and gives fans so much more.

Luckily, Hasbro cannot purge the existence of the original version any more, thanks to the fans this version will live forever. And MLP now has its own Han Shot First scene.

I hope, Hasbro learns from this that rushing changes is no favor to the fan base, and that they should trust their own work, instead of trying to please everybody. The worst possible thing they could learn is to avoid fan service at all, because everything is better than just dropping it completely.

So all in all, I hope that, as soon as all the dust has settled, they can start over and give Derpy another chance to be more than a background pony. With some more sensibility, and lots of true love for an oddball character.

      ReplyDelete

Who gives a damn about them? How many Warner brothers characters are offensive stereotype characters with names and acts like they do are being sewed or attacked? Daffy Duck with a speech impediment that spits and he acts bipolar is FINE even with the name DAFFY but heaven forbid we have a Derpy with a speech impediment.

    81. OMGWTFBBQ what am I looking at?!?

I guess I don't mind the voice change so much, since the first one was off to begin with although I'd gotten used to it.
BUT NOW RAINBOW DASH DOESN'T SAY 'DERPY' !!!

Definately not purchasing Itunes any more. I'm not gonna blame Hasbro yet though. For now I'll blame Itunes because they've been the error-prone party as of late. At least the DVD is safe for now, I'd better get a copy quick.

But if evidence comes to light that Hasbro payed attention to the small petition against Derpy and ignored the large petition in favor of Derpy, I'd have to admit, they've made a terrible business decision even with all the info right in front of their faces. Inb4 this kills the fandom or at least eviscerates it.

    82. @Sotsim

Yes, but it's a *little* group. Then you have people come on and basically addressing the whole fandom and saying "look what you all did with your pathetic whining" and that's just not how it is.

    85. I like the new voice. Don't like censoring the name and eyes un-derping.

    86. If we all stopped supporting Hasbro til they changed it back they would lose more money than the few people that threatened to sew over Derpy. I just don't get this move.

      ReplyDelete
    87. " Sure derpy is nice and fandom shout out and whatever, but she's not main character. Is something really changed? She maybe not called Derpy, but she definitely less retarded right now. If Derpy = fandom, don't you think it means that we are retarded? Some people sure so."

Probably so. I'm not too worried about Derpy actually. I'm just worried about the honchos bending backwards for stuff like this. Also, having Derpy there AND having her be 'handicapped' would have been a good thing in actuality, but people are too touchy over it. Which is just a sorry state of the politically correct society nowadays I suppose.

I mean, I live and interact with mentally ill (some who can barely speak or walk properly) in the public all the time. We don't treat them like they don't exist. We treat them the best way we can as human beings. The way Derpy even held jobs in Ponyville, that speaks volumes.

But you're right. If this is the worst it's going to get, then fine. I just wish it doesn't go down to changing the whole nature of the toon.

That said, it may not even be complainers within the fandom. It could even be the honchos themselves or some parent/consumer. I just hate all this really. All this aspect of people bending backwards over the negative nancy or the moral-police. :sigh:

Anyway I'm going to drop the subject. I just have read Kreoss message and it has helped me realizing that I'm acting a little wrong and I should just leave the issue and continue enjoying the show :)

    89. Wonderful. Just wonderful, really. Feminine high-pitched voice with NO trace of the original adorable clumsiness and no reference of the name anymore.

Well, what's next? No more fat cartoon guys because if someone on the show calls them fat someone around the world will be offended?

Good work, Morality Crusaders. You saved the world from an adorable airhead, all hail you! Now get the hell out this fandom. She is STILL Derpy for us, and you can censor US.

    92. I don't actually mind the new voice but to take away her derpy eyes and her name! This is a very sad day, made worse by the fact that they couldn't even edit it properly.
I just wish that Hasbro would tell us what's going on.

      ReplyDelete
    93. I can take the chanced voice, but why fix her eyes? There was nothing wrong with her eyes D:

      They where adorable ;_;

      ReplyDelete
    94. @Mike

Firstly, there is no way on Earth, iTunes or Apple did that re-edit themselves. They're just not in that business.

It was done in-house. No question. So someone in Hasbro clearly decided it needed to be done. Someone, I reckon, above the pay grade of anyone involved in the actual production basically mandated a rush-job hatchet-job.

Someone IN HASBRO decided this had to happen. And it's a very, very bad call.

iTunes took it down because they got a takedown from *Hasbro*. And they put up the new version when *Hasbro* uploaded the new version.

But basically, I would certainly encourage anyone who prefers the new version to go to iTunes and indicate your support for this change by buying it. Because I hope no-one is going to upload this anywhere where people can get it for free. That signifies that NOBODY WANTS IT. And it'll ensure going forward that the original version is the one most people will actually see.

And anyone buying the season pass after the original was taken down... I'm sorry to say but I understand if people are leery to do so... then I reckon you're fully entitled to go and find the original decrypted iTunes version online and put that in your iTunes library instead.

      ReplyDelete
    95. @Figment

For a short while the original went back up, then it was replaced by the new one. Presumably you got it in the short window while the original was back up.

    96. RAMPANT SPECULATION AHEAD: I think this solves the mystery of Derpy's name suddenly disappearing from Tabitha's fan mail page. She must've been aware of the redub, and the fact her name was removed, for quite some time now. At the very least, as far as sneaky ways of protest goes, that is certainly the sneakiest I can think of.

I actually don't entirely disagree with the redub in itself. Tabitha herself admitted she goofed up. I don't like that someone else did the redub - I'd have loved Tabitha to give it another shot - but she might simply not have been available, busy with other work, at the time the redub was done. Nothing prevents her from taking the role back next time. There's been four Bon-Bons.

Has anypony paid attention to The Last Roundup reruns on the Hub recently? Are they airing the "fixed" version there, too?

I won't feel bad for not buying any more Hasbro products or stealing the show since it seems that following legitimate sources will only get me the shit Hasbro has censored to hell.

    109. I buy the episode's on iTunes bet most other brony's do too, but the thing what annoys me is that Hasbro listens to haters who don't buy episode's what supports them and blanks out brony's. At least but two versions of the episode up on iTunes Hasbro the original which is the best and got the funniest chat reaction iv'e ever seen and one for haters and concern mothers

      ReplyDelete
    110. Well the previous voice was an admitted mistake by the voice actor and as for the name I have always found it a bit reduntant. This way it isn't canon so people can still go with ditzy. Except for the eyes I think it was a goog change even if it was done for the wrong reason.

      ReplyDelete
    111. There were many people who have said that Derpys voice was to silly and that she is misunderstood! So they changed it...

Please, just don't make any trouble for Hasbro, they provide us with a great show and don't need enraged fanatics yelling at them. We all love them, just remember to tolerate their decisions.

    114. I suppose that Quoting Spike would be appropriate now:
      "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" -Spike

I do not like the change for the following reasons:
-RD's changed lines make her sound a bit out of character.
-Derpy now sounds more like a bimbo instead of a klutzy pony who is trying to be helpful.
      -What's wrong with her eyes!?

Not cool... not cool at all.

      ReplyDelete
    115. So, Hasbro claims that the word "Derpy" is an insult now?

    118. Am I the only one who thinks that they DIDN'T do this because of a few idiots in the fandom? No offense, but I think that assuming that kinda gives us an overinflated sense of self-importance. How do we even KNOW that Hasbro listens to us on matters like that? They haven't before, really.

There's got to be some other reason. I myself would like to know what that is.

      -Alex

    119. I agree Zeke. I don't mind the voices or whatever. I LOVED the boyish Derpy since that's just how it came out to be. Circumstances of this change is just UGLY.

However, this could be because of FCC or Apple or maybe it's not even Hasbro at fault. We should keep calm and watch with a hawk's eye. We can calm down. But we will NOT forget.

Well, they listened with Derpy and now promising more Generation 4 in toys/snacks now. But I agree. There's not enough hard info. Maybe it could be an insular decision by some head honcho of Apple/Hasbro or whatever. Again, maybe even some outside source like FCC played a part. Some angry parents? Some politically correct watchdog? Maybe mixed in with a few MLP fans? Who knows?

    123. And now I noticed the Un-derped eyes. I supported the change in voice, I can even handle Dash not publically calling her "Derpy", but when you take away her silly little eyes and the main reason for her clumsy-ness, YOU'VE GONE ONE STEP TOO FAR, HASBRO!!

      ReplyDelete
    124. God dammit.
I pre ordered the DVD. If It's got this change on it I'm sending it back to Hasbro in pieces.
As what my friend poined out she sounds like a blonde stereotype now, which is worse than before.
Glad I saved a copy of the episode off Youtube when this first went down.

      ReplyDelete
    125. Overall I liked Derpy's new voice much better. It did seem a little out of place, but I think that's because the new recorded voice had to fit the already animated scene. I hope this new voice will be used in the future for her.

I didn't like that they removed Derpy's name though! D= I hope for her name to come back in future episodes. I won't accept any other name for her, and will stubbornly insist her name is Derpy.

I'm somewhat okay with her "un-derped" eyes. They're still derped, just subtly derped now instead of insanely derped. I feel that her eyes should alternate between this subtle derp and the insanely derped....and all the levels of derp inbetween. It gets a little tiresome and it loses it's effect when her eyes are insanely derped all the time.

TL;DR: New voice is good. Removing Derpy's name is bad. New eyes are alright, but her eyes should alternate between all the levels of derp from subtly derp to insanely derp so it doesn't get boring.

      ReplyDelete
    126. Seriously? ok so if that VOICE was the first one you heard the FIRST time you would have liked Derpy just as much? sure I would have been happy to see her get mentioned still and that she got some lines... but if THAT was the voice and the tone/air/vibe she gives off with how the Derpy scenes were done.... I would be on the fence of feeling offended since that VA seems to go out of her way to seem disinterested and overly blond and retarded.

If ALL the cast had VA's like that rush job for Derpy... NO ONE would be watching this show! I mean NO ONE. Animation is ONE thing, but VOICE ACTING is the cement that glues a show together. Daniel would of probably moved on from MLP by now with talent that bad.
No seriously the new voice job is garbage, todays animes with over used VA's that don't even bother to try and make a character sound different anymore, is the reason anime sales have stagnated over the years. Not to mention speed subbers because it takes months of legal crap just to get a series green-lit for shores.

No sorry and for the vultures diving in to feast on Derpy's corpse with "OH sweet so Derpy is de-canoned right? Ditzy is more canon?" guh DITZY and DERPY are FAN NAMES neither was more canon then the other, except one got picked for being less derogatory then the other!

A DERP is a mistake, followed by a silly derp face. They didn't MEAN to be clumsy. a DITZY person is about being clumsy and 'blond' 24/7 every day of the year!

People really need a comparison video with these two to see what I mean because if you can't hear and feel why the new one is terrible then please go back to watching your dubbed Naruto and reading your shonen jumps and marvel at how much you think those are the epitome of awesome in the world.

Already with the Ditzy vultures coming in with thoughts of "Oh oh now they will name her Ditzy! cause that's totally not offensive! right?" where is that guy from Two Stupid Dogs when you need'em...

They could of at least called her Bubbles as a homage to the FIRST Derpy fanfiction of her released. Seriously what is wrong with having a bubbly personality?

    127. There's a petition to try and change Derpy back. Could you attach this somewhere where people can see it if they want to sign it?

    128. DERPY!!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Why Hasbro, why?!?!?!? D: Derpy is my favorite character of all time, why did u have to change her :(

      ReplyDelete
    129. I really dont know what everyone is talking about... Derpy is untouched in my iTunes. Also, Hearts and Hooves was never removed for me.

      ReplyDelete
    130. The reason? The actually retarded people that think derpy eyes + voice with slur = mentally challenged.

That's now how it works folks. Now? You've actually made derp a slur word which, thanks to you, I'll be using regularly now. Call that immature and what not, but if you're going to be immature about a cartoon horse from a fucking kids TV show, so am I. That's how it works on the internet, right?

Thanks to you, her voice now sounds like a dumb blonde. Even more stereotypical. That type of character, however, is for some reason allowed to be on television. I don't get it. This wasn't even making fun of mentally challenged people. This was actually making fun of a silly, clumsy character that happened to be voiced as a male ON ACCIDENT.

      Get it through your heads.

      ON ACCIDENT.

The next thing that'll be banned from television is probably homosexuals because "hurr durr gay is slur word herp d*rp".

Please don't be stupid Hasbro. Don't cave in to the extremely small minority. Don't remove the bridge between fans and you by turning her into this no-named monstrosity of a dumb blonde character. You'll lose all my respect if you do.

      Yes, I'm mad bro.

This is just too fucking dumb.

    133. I'm not angry at Hasbro or anyone else for this, just... disappointed, I guess. Although considering how Hasbro are a large company whose focus has always been on profit first and foremost as opposed to fanbases, I suppose I'm not too surprised, really. And on the bright side, at least if they really do see this as the best move to protect the brand's interests, then it means that MLP as a brand is probably safer this way. Probably. ^^; *is trying to look on the bright side of this*

      ReplyDelete
    134. I'm not saying troll but..

For US people making a review on iTunes saying your disappointed about the change, surely they will see it there and realize what a mistake they have made

      Just saying

      ReplyDelete
    135. I don't think I'm angry so much as bewildered. I can't imagine that whatever backlash iTunes is getting now and even before the episode was put back up for potentially censoring content would be any less then the buzzing about her name being "Derpy," (far from it, I imagine the EPIC NERD RAGE is off the charts) so why go through the effort?

If there's one thing constructive fans want to do, I'd imagine it'd be to talk with your wallets. Any fan who had purchased Last Roundup should email iTunes, Politely, and ask for their money back. You received a censored, incomplete version of the episode, with no notice or warning from Apple. You probably won't get it (I'm sure there are clauses in there) but people talking refunds would seemingly go a lot further than people talking censorship.

      ReplyDelete
    136. @LuridChronomancer

Contrary to what some conspiracy nuts will say, Apple indeed do not remotely delete content you already have downloaded to your library. So yes, if you eg: have the season pass and downloaded each new episode when it first appeared, you will have all of them, intact. And yes, Hearts and Hooves is still visible and downloadable in Purchased for season-passers.

So at one level, yes, my MLP library is secure and unadulterated.

On another level though, this is about what new fans are going to see, and also, about what can go into future episodes. The loss there is incalculable - in the literal sense that we simply will never know what more we might have seen of Derpy.

And of course the precedent, brought about by a PC fallacy - or possibly more accurately, a fallacious interpretation of political correctness, that individuals who are different or disabled in any way should be airbrushed out of popular culture.

In amongst all the rage, I keep coming across anecdotes from people who have disabilities - some quite similar to Derpy's - or who have kids in that situation, for whom Derpy was a hugely welcome addition to the show. If those people could complain directly to Hasbro it would - for similar reasons to the original complainers of course - have far more weight than the rest of us raging on. :-)

      ReplyDelete
    137. @Unknown To not tick off anyone who might take "offense" at the original version. Cause we never want to be offended again! *Sigh* I can understand being nice to folks but if we can't equally make fun of all us then we can't fun of anyone.

      ReplyDelete
    140. I have lost all respect for the company, Hasbro.

And the cartoon industry in general. The whole "perfect world" in very cartoon I see is not interesting, or right at all. I remember watching Digimon as a kid, there were bad guys, actual threats, people got hurt sometimes, and there were familial issues.

Things that happen in the real world.

Society needs to realize that we cannot shelter our children forever, nor is it fair.

Reality will only hit them that harder.

This is really sad. I say, we boycott Hasbro for awhile.

Speak out. Stop buying, stop feeding them your cash after this disgrace to the fans.

      In other.. Who is Yamino?

      ReplyDelete
    141. @Spikely Whiplash

I believe they won't - and probably can't. If it's already in your library, a new version won't be automatically downloaded on top of it. you'd have to first delete the original from your itunes library.

But... take a copy for safety. :-) Just right click and reveal in finder/explorer and copy it out to somewhere outside itunes; it should be safe there. For added safety, get hold of Requiem and decrypt it, in case (and I don't think it'll happen) the right to play the old file is expired somehow.

In summary: I don't believe such measures are really necessary; but you might as well do it anyway; it does no harm.

      ReplyDelete
    142. Ok, deep breath.

I implore everypony to just calm down and wait for more information. I feel that with all the fan support Hasbro has given us, there WILL be an explanation.

Please, please everypony, just be patient. Stop the threats of boycotting and petitions until we know all the facts.

    143. @Cátsy

Ditzy ISN'T a canon name, friend. In "Winter Wrap Up" the ponies said a certain Ditzy Doo was supposed to guide the southern (or northern, I dunno lol) birds, but she did something wrong in the process. I got no idea why the fandom related the name to our former cross-eyed overlord, though.

Derpy Hooves, in its origins, was totally fanon, just like "Lyra" and "Bon-Bon", for instance. At a certain moment, however, it became canon since the name appeared in the show and The Hub's facebook said something about "finding the fan favorite Derpy" in the background of a picture they posted.

Put two and two and two together and you'll see that, when it comes to our grey mailmare, Derpy is still more canon than Ditzy.

Not to mention that Lauren Faust herself refers to her as Derpy, by the way.

      ReplyDelete
    144. Personally, I didn't like her voice before. Too deep and slow in my opinion. So I don't mind the voice change so much.
      But un-derping her eyes? Feh.

      ReplyDelete
    145. I began my Apple boycott in 1989, and I've been 100% Apple free since then. I do not support iTunes. As much as I like this show, even it is not worth supporting iTunes for. This just cements it (well, more like adds another layer of cement to a very solid structure).

      ReplyDelete
    146. But Derpy was not only dead, she was abolished, an unpony.

      ReplyDelete
    147. @NightStarX

Too be fair, it wasn't that much editing. Redoing her lines was something they might have done anyway (seeing as Tabitha originally thought Derpy was a boy), and cutting part of a line and altering her eyes isn't that much work.
I can accept the effort of altering the episode on part of the voice as a sign of how much they care, but the other changes are a damn shame indeed.

      ReplyDelete
    148. I actually like this voice better. It makes her sound like the cheerful, bubbly, but still mildly klutzy mare that MOST of us know and love. I've always called her Ditzy Doo but I'm willing to accept whatever makes her canon as long as they're willing to take the risk of offending a few people. I do hope that they re/un-modify her and return her to being Derpy with either voice. They could even call her Ditzy Doo.

      ReplyDelete
    151. Moments like this really remind me of how much of the brony community's "love and tolerance" schtick is just a phrase and not a way of life.

      ReplyDelete
    152. Well, personally I like her new voice fits better than the original in my opinion.

The fact is, there has only been two changes:

      1.) She isn't named.
      2.) Eyes have been un-derped.

Sad to say, it is pandering to the political correctness crowd, so yeah, they caved.

At the end of the day for me, I still don't like her character. She's still cheap comic relief, they kept that.

      ReplyDelete
    153. Why not just name her Ditzy in stead of derpy,
i think if they had done that from the start no one would have been bothered with the fact she is cross eyed.
I believe the combination of cross eyed, name derpy and the voice(which was by accident i know) just was a bad thing and ticked allot of people off.

What Kreoss is true, introducing a fan made character to a show is hard, you please people and you disappoint the others.
I personally find it awesome they wanted to try to put a fan character to the show, to bad it didn't work out.

      ReplyDelete
    154. @SteelChaser

Yamino's the current scapegoat for the issue. Some supposedly-bigshot fan who bitched about the original Derpy thing. And because she's apparently so important, she's become a scapegoat for the 'overreacting jackass' portion of the fandom.

Well, that's what I've been able to dig up, anyways; up until now I'd never heard of her either.

Because her name is not "Ditzy". It's Derpy. It was never "Ditzy", that was 100% assumption based off of a very vague guess that was never confirmed to be true.

And "ditz" is far more offensive than "derp", before you even go to that argument.

As for "ticking people off"...nobody ever complained about Snips or Snails. You don't hear about OTHER "slow" characters from other shows getting censored/edited because of complaints. So, why Derpy? I just don't get it.

    158. This is not how it was supposed to be, damn it.

Ditzy, by definition, is much more offensive than Derpy.

      Just sayin'.

    160. Funny, someone just pointed out that the MLP:FIM fanbase now has something in common with the Star Wars fanbase.

      Give you a hint:

    162. @Joe

Because popular things usually get more hate than non-popular ones, I think. You know... with more popularity you attract more attention from people, including the ones that don't like you. Often, this results in a group of haters. Boo, hate.

And man, you're totally right about Snips and Snails. I second that.

We must rise violently and demand they change this back.

      ReplyDelete
    164. Pity. I guess i saw something like this coming, but it still bums me out. And its all because of the uproar from non-fans and certain 'fans' alike.
as least she isn't gone from the show all together. We have that much. and MLP is still a great show, no matter what happened.
But man, what a let down. I was ok until her name got cut out.
...Time to actually send an Email to Hasbro/The Hub directly and display my feelings about this. And in a positive way instead of Negative. I Hope the rest of us Bronies do the same.

Indeed, nobody has ever complained/petitioned censors or edits for:

      Patrick
      Goofy
      Dopey
      Billy (billy and mandy)
      Big Billy (PPG)
      Red (fosters home)
      Ed (Ed Edd n' Eddy)

etc. etc. There have been countless "slow" characters throughout tons of cartoons throughout the years...and now all of a sudden they censor Derpy? Why?

Fucking political correctness. It's ruining everything in media nowadays.

Oh, man, I need that as a t-shirt now.

      "Derpy talked first."

    168. Well, I like her new voice. It's very cute. It's a little lame they took out her name, but hey, Derpy's still in the episode, and I really like her voice.

    171. New voice? Well, it doesn't sound so bad and it sounds a lot more feminine so I'm okay with...

      THEY UNDERPED HER EYES?
Who is this strange new being that looks like Derpy?

      ReplyDelete
    172. I agree with Shippoyasha completely

I never really cared for Derpy, but the fact that they removed the name of an established character (and most likely will start refering to her by her *nickname* if at all) really disheartens my love for the show and trust to the ones behind the scenes.

Hopefully we'll get a legit and acceptable explanation, if not I worry that future episodes will drop in quality because the creators are too concerned about accidentally offending somebody.

or worse, Hasbro will start setting up heavy restrictions on what mlp can and can't do.

I actually prefer Derpys previous voice! Why did you do that Hasbro!?

    174. Well from what i've seen, it looks like Yamino is going to get more unwanted attention: From haters and trolls who are viewing her as a hero.

I think this has caused some unrepairable damage between the fanbase and Hasbro. Hope i'm wrong.

    175. People today get offended way too easily and are way too scared to offend others. I can't believe that something like this had to be edited. Buck this world!

    176. Well if the Friendship Express DVD is untouched I am definitely picking it up. I am very disappointed in the removal of her name, the new voice, and the edits to her eyes mostly because the original was such a wonderful outreach to us older fans.

      ReplyDelete
    177. okay, changing the voice doesn't bother me that much, Tabitha St. Germain already said that she kinda messed that up since she thought Derpy was a guy. I liked the old voice as well, but the new one really isn't that bad either...

Now, for underping her eyes and removing her name... let's just say that I'm happy that there are still "uncensored" versions floating around...

It's sad Hasbro felt the need to give in to these demands, but at least, since Rainbow doesn't call her Derpy we can still pretend that this is another character, and not our Derpy. Let's just hope that the real Derpy will appear in future episodes again.

Furthermore, this is very disappointing. I am very glad my DVR and computer have copies of the original. Once again PC police buck it up for everypony.

    183. whhhaaaat? i liked her voice :( this new one lacks emotion, in the previous voice she sounded sad when things went wrong, now it's more enthusiastic about it :/

      ReplyDelete
    184. they only changed the iTunes version of the episode so that iTunes would sell it for them.
the DVD and TV versions remain untouched and Derpy will still be Derpy with the same old derp eyes and voice.
any future episodes released that has Derpy will be edited ONLY for iTunes and we will not have to worry about it... unless the only way you had to watch it was on iTunes... but yeah you can always watch the TV version on youtube.
