Now before you all freak out, take this in stride. Their primary purpose was to host full downloads of the episodes. These are something Hasbro releases usually a day later on their iTunes page. The letter did include a request to take everything down (Including the Pinkie Pie image :p), but the actual torrents and Multi-upload links may have been the main reasoning behind it.
As more information on the extent of this pops up, we will continue to report on it. For now though, it looks like iTunes is the best place to get the actual episode files without running into legal issues. They did actually fix the color fading for season two, so it really isn't a bad alternative, and a good way to support the show for those of you that aren't into the toys / don't have The Hub.
Note: People from Ponyarchive have stated that they will not be taking the site down.

Hi
Thanks for your concern. Since we are merely spreading friendship and
magic we feel that we're protected by princess Celestia herself.
Also, we are not based in the US - so US law does not apply to us.
Please feel free to download the episodes from our website in order to
learn about accepting, friendship and happiness too.
Have a nice one :)
BEST RESPONSE EVER GO PONY ARCHIVE !
Umm guys just do what I do. Wait for the 720p or 1080p rip to show up on YouTube and then just download it with www.keepvid.com
ReplyDeleteOh boy this again....There is a 19 year old British kid who the US is trying to get extradied to face trial for doing the same thing, having the links on his site not hosting any actuarel shows on the site. Some would argue he should while others argue he shouldnt. This old story is getting old. How do they know its a legit notice? there are many groups and trolls who would do this sort of thing becacuse they hate it
ReplyDeleteof all the worst possible things, this is the WORST...POSSIBLE THING....EVER!!!!
ReplyDelete@DracoAzule
ReplyDeletewith the HORRIBLE quality no thank you

ReplyDeleteI'm in Afghanistan and the *only* place I can get episodes from that isn't blocked is PonyArchive.
Well, good thing I signed up for a US iTunes account the other day, got a $50 gift card and used it all for a Season Pass! :D Shame to hear on this though but, in the way it was being given out, it had to happen sooner or later. That's how these things work.
ReplyDeleteYouTube is one thing, but literally explicitly illegally downloading the episodes? If you are that dedicated to this show, support it.
Thank Luna I still have the Windows boot on my laptop so I can install iTunes. If the episodes were available on other legal sites to purchase, that'd be fantastic for those of us who choose not to use iTunes, or can't because they use Linux (which is what I predominantly use).
ReplyDeleteAnd so begins the war between the internet and the US government.
ReplyDeleteHopefully They don't go after Youtube next... then alot of us will have no way to see them without paying on ITunes, which if they let you download a 1080p mp4 file I'd be totally cool with. :S
ReplyDeleteI'm in Europe, so I couldn't get the episodes through iTunes even if I wanted.
ReplyDeleteI'm in Europe, so I couldn't get The Hub even if I tried.
I'm in Europe, so I won't even be able to watch region-encoded DVDs.
Hasbro: Release full-season DVD boxes (preferably with a region code that is of ANY use to me) and they will sell like hot cakes and you will never have to worry again. I would totally buy those for myself AND as gifts for friends.
I mean, if there WAS a legal way to give Hasbro the money I think the show is worth in exchange for watching, I SO WOULD. Disabling the illegal ways without offering legit alternatives... err... is of no use to anyone. Who wins anyting from it? Hasbro getting even a cent more? Don't think so.
The era of ponies is surely ending. It's not so much that Hasbro's taking down a website, but more along the lines of them shaking up the Pony community. It sends a message to us that we're on watch, and we need to tread lightly. The various legal actions they've taken so far, taking down a few lesser known YouTube videos and a website, don't amount to full-scale war against our community, but it does send a message.
ReplyDeleteI'm just afraid that that message is something along the lines of limitation and containment, and I'm not liking that message at all.
And so, they're gone, and they left a VERY mean message behind. Seriously? Not the best way to handle things at all. :S

Yep... Myth confirmed... PonyArchive.EU is no loner hosting torrent downloads.
ReplyDeleteBad take by Pony Archive leaving that message. Just makes them come off as looking as Brats.
ReplyDeleteAnypony conidered that it could be Apple putting pressure on hasbro to do this?
ReplyDeleteI think this would have happened sooner than half way through series 2 if it was Hasbro getting ticked off.
Still, I used Itunes and didn't like it, and now in the UK, I must use youtube... After I went and bought 6 Ponies from the bright pink isle. :(
Hasbro could get much more profit and respect if they just asked ponyarchive team to place any web payment terminal on their site and call for bronies to support show, instead of shutting the site dwn. Those who can't buy episodes by any reason will get them for free anyway.
ReplyDeleteI really wouldn't mind paying for the episodes, but I am not an Apple user and would like episodes that I can play in something like Windows Media Player. I don't have any iPods or anything and I recently installed iTunes to buy an episode and was disappointed to find out that the DRM prevented me from watching it on anything that wasn't Apple.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have a problem with it if I was allowed to own the actual file and watch it on whatever I wanted.
@Issueman
ReplyDeleteWhat do you not get that nopony cares if you are first?
