The only other Pegasus's we know that aren't simple background ponies are The Wonderbolts. And yeah... it's not them.

There is a butterfly wing spell and levitation abilities, plus easy build candy copters by Pinkie Incorporated.
Also Trixie would want to try being a real hero after her failure to beat an ursa minor. (The 'I am upstaging you' personality would be a nice call back really)
But it wouldn't be a big dissapointment if it wasn't Trixie. However Sethisto would make a petition to make a my little Trixie cartoon show afterwards.

You may be onto something... Only a bit more out there. RD is the new hero, a manifestation of the greatness she wants to be, but it's all a sleep walking incident that she doesn't remember when she's awake (remember she constantly naps during the day) and gets jealous/insecure when she's told about it when she's awake.
All things said Trixie has the biggest reason to do this.
I'm pretty sure the hero will stage problems to make themselves look good in the eye of the public.(screams Trixie)
Then Rainbow comes along and interferes. (She will then do something to unmask the pony causing said problems.)

(This is assuming that picture at the top is legit which for all I know is not) If we are to assume that the hair isn't styled differently, I think it narrows down the possibilities.
Both Fluttershy and Trixie have smooth hair, where as the hair in the picture is more edged. On the other hand, both Derpy and Scoots have jagged edges in their hair so I'd think their more likely. Yay for over-analyzation!

My prediction is a sane one, it's going to be a new character this episode, a pegasus with Firefly's Colour Scheme, however the Mysterious Mare will never be unmasked in the episode and we will never find out her name.
And then the show manages to legitimately get Firefly in, avoiding all copyright issues and all shall be awesome

Can you traverse the different panes of existaince?
Don't get me wrong, but Derpy should be nothing more than a background pony that sometimes appears in a funny scene, like in Luna Eclipsed. Giving her a voice and a big role in a story doesn’t feel right.
Therefore I think the mysterious mare is either a new character or Fluttershy. Sure Fluttershy as super hero that steals stuff seems to be a bit weird, but maybe she has a good reason that involves animals. And she only steals it because every time she wanted to borrow some thunder Dash was busy with something else and thus Fluttershy never had a chance to talk with her.
What if Rainbow Dash has schizophrenia? Maybe she IS the Mysterious Mare Do Well, but she doesn't remember when she transforms or her alter personality takes over?
That would be... stupid.
