There's so much fun in this little clip, as noted in that other thread... From "brain-slug" Gummy (as termed by Sgt Byrd) to prehensile tail Applejack to Pinkie throwing Twilight, Rarity and AJ under the bus.
As I said before, I sympathize with some fans who don't like it, but I have to admit that Pinkie's enthusiastically oblivious insensitivity this season never fails to get a laugh out of me.
@ PaperCamm It would be marketing, if their toys actually came with the right pets. The AJ toy I've seen in my local toystore had a pink cat or something. And MLP:FIM was greenlighted by Hasbro so they could sell more shit to kids. Its just luck that Lauren and the rest of the team she put togehter were put on this project or else it would be just lame marketing for children.The MLP:FIM team turned My Little Pony from something really girly and just for marketing, into something really awesome!

But since I presume he'll have a smaller presence in this episode (since it is a Rainbow Dash one and all), he might not annoy me as much this time.
BTW, was Opal in the clip? I didn't see that darn cat anywhere.
My personal take regarding the whole "prehensile tails" thing: Applejack has always used her tail like a "third arm"; she uses it to lasso things and even perform crazy tricks with it like in Boast Busters. I hardly think whipping her tail back and forward to throw a stick several yards means it's suddenly becoming "fully prehensile", at least for the complaint that this is some recent development this season.
Besides, tails are something ponies have that otherwise would just lazily stick around behind them, why not actually use them occasionally? (especially since they don't have hands, so having a tail "grip" something may seem more visually realistic than a hoof, even if it's actually not).
On the actual clip, no real surprises, but still cute and well animated. I'm looking forward to this episode, as usual!
I agree with one YouTube commenter that Pinkie's trying to avoid a "Party of One" situation for Rainbow Dash by explaining the whole situation up front.
So Rainbow Dash feels excluded and uses a contest to deem which animal is "worthy" of being her pet. Huh, this episode is only solidifying her position as Least favorite Pony for me.

Again, I don't see the harm in giving the tail a bit of life. Sure, lifting barbells with one is downright silly compared to most feats, but it's not like they haven't been using tails in "impossible" manners before that episode.
If suddenly all sorts of crazy actions involving impossible usages of tails became the norm, sure, I'd dislike that. A few silly tail uses every so often? Perfectly fine for magical cartoon pony standards, at least for me.
Wasn't Sisterhooves Social enough? Applejack practically got as much focus as Rarity through her interactions with Applebloom and Sweetie Belle.
So far, its Pinkie, Fluttershy and Rainbow that have been missing out on meaningful scenes - personally, I can't wait.
I also look forward to seeing what will probably be Rainbow's first flirt with self-awareness, aka a friendship report to Celestia - now that should be interesting...

Really looking forward to this. I can see them going either one of two ways; 1) Dash gets her pet but it wont be the obvious choice (i.e. one of the birds/bat from the screen shot) but some slow animal. I think it would still have to be a flying creature so it can stay in the clouds. Or 2) she realizes that she doesn't need a pet to be fulfilled. Friendship lesson: It's OK if all your friends have something that you don't, nor should you exclude a friend because they lack something. And then the others let Dash join the Pet Club and play with all their pets. I hope it is the former not the latter.

Rainbow should have an ill tempered falcon that snaps at the eyes of others, or and ill tempered monkey who throws things at people, or an ill tempered pelican that likes to try and fit people it it's mouth, or and ill tempered fish who constantly plots for world domination and evidenced by his periodic shifty eyes, possibly a sea bass with a laser later attached to his head.
@ PaperCamm and the rest, this episode seems like a marketing gimmick to me. Sure the pony toys Hasbro has been putting out don't match the pony's pets in the show, but they still come with "pets" in the toys don't they? I'm sure the only reason why any of the mane 6 have pets are because Hasbro wanted them to have pets because of the toys. You people gotta remember that the only reason why FIM exists is because Hasbro wants to sell toys, without the drive to sell toys there would be no FIM, or any of the previous MLP series for that matter.
Is it just me, or does this episode have the potential to be really good? All the M6 together, and interacting, and Pinkie being Pinkie, just like in season 1!

@TB3 it was not enough. What you expect from a character driven episode is growth and change for whomever it's focus is on. Applejack has had three, arguably four, episodes with the focus on her. Not one has occurred this season as of yet.

@ PaperCamm and the rest, this episode seems like a marketing gimmick to me. Sure the pony toys Hasbro has been putting out don't match the pony's pets in the show, but they still come with "pets" in the toys don't they? I'm sure the only reason why any of the mane 6 have pets are because Hasbro wanted them to have pets because of the toys. You people gotta remember that the only reason why FIM exists is because Hasbro wants to sell toys, without the drive to sell toys there would be no FIM, or any of the previous MLP series for that matter.
How the hell did Rarity manage to get Opal out there without suffering major blood loss?

Bat: her teeny tiny hidden need for the warm fuzzy feelings

@TB3 it was not enough. What you expect from a character driven episode is growth and change for whomever it's focus is on. Applejack has had three, arguably four, episodes with the focus on her. Not one has occurred this season as of yet.
