      Thank you! Awesome work!

I am very sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. Please don't hate me I just thought that being non-profit that it wouldn't violate their copyrights. Of course I wouldn't do anything involving your intellectual work without your permission.

Again I am still a high school student and I know little about these laws.

      Sorry...

Wow! That was amazing and oh my gosh, Pip is soooo tiny! *squee* She's a pocket pony.

I know how you feel with the powers of snapping fingers and the redacted parts. The instrumentals could be easily fixed with some slow animations maybe?

Just so you know. I already have permission from Kkat to make a personal book once the revisions overall have been made. Idk if that will conflict with anything still.

Personal, meaning, "ONE copy, all expenses to bind and create spent by me, no money returned or made back."

And I feel it would help a great deal to read off of a page than a bright computer screen.

Yeah, plus that is has the mother of all shields due to it's importance. But yeah, there's no knowing how the pod thingy actually work. It's not like they mentioned in exact detail how it was operated... wonder if there's a manual next to it haha.
As for how it's built, I imagine first foundation, then the machines, then they created and planted the shield. Then Dash turned it on and left the place.

@Arcane scroll: I wouldn't count on it much tbh. Plus, she'd need to have it with her as well, and intact. Who knows what she brought with her and what'll make it through.

@Travis: Actually, at the mention of that again, I somehow can picture Dash in a failed stasis, forgetting to plug into the mainframe or something. Having spent 200 years in a concious coma. Which would really cause a "*critical pounce* omg! physical contact! Somepony else!" thing of... I trailed off with whatever I was going at xD

    8. Yeah, I was not going to print without Kkat's permission. What I really meant to say was to create a file for an print on demand print shop and then people could take the file and make their own personal copies. Since I can't draw I wanted to be able to help with something. But I obviously came off wrong. Sorry everyone.

If i was to order a hardcover book of this fic when it's done, could i get you one as well? just for a thank you?

Or is even doing that against the law. (Though i'm quite sure just giving someone a book isn't wrong...)

    13. CH.44 :

      >Faith doesn’t require us to be willfully blind or dogmatically stupid. But it does require us to take risks.
-Well ? I like that line.

      >The first thing I remembered was Ditzy Doo’s prodding of the field (zap, “ow”), and I had to prevent myself from snickering.
-Yeah... that was a funny moment.

      >Broken first by the hellhound. “Und you let her make the plans?” He leveled a wry stare at Calamity and Velvet. “Un purpose?”
-I’m (already) starting to like that Albino ‘’Hellhound’’. He has interesting humor.

      >“Fluffykins,” Reggie chuckled groggily >“Scourge of the Enclave.”
-Well, this Part starts well, with all this subtle humor. :)

      >Red Eye’s cyberdragon had survived the fight in Everfree Forest, and for reasons only it could know, it still fought for Equestria. And it was pissed.
      -Well, that fight looks promising.

      >“We have learned,” she admonished Calamity. “Siding with those who oppose The Destroyer and her friends leads to failure.”
-They really seem to learn for their errors, but they phrase that in a rather interesting way, I have to say. :)

      >Without a word, the Steel Ranger turned away from the Applejack’s Ranger, focusing on the enemy.
-I say, this fight is building up nicely... almost ‘exciting’ to see the various ‘Allied groups’ progressively gathering together.
But, I have seen enough movies and series to know that, in battle, each ‘’high tide’’ for the good guys will face a seemingly bigger ‘’low tide’’... before it all comes back in favor of the good guys, in the end. Still... it’s an interesting use of it.

      >It had been two centuries since the megaspell known as Celestia One had been activated.
-Ahh, I knew this tower would be used as a super-weapon... though I hadn’t really though about what would come out of it ? Solar Death-ray is good.

      >“Oh,” Calamity muttered. “That mouse.”
-... ... ...Ooooooohhh ! THAT mouse ! THE ‘’dragon into a mouse’’ ! I’m honestly ‘very’ surprised by this.
This is pleasantly surprising, I have to say... When I understood (took a good 30sec of deep-reflection to remember : ‘’A mouse, a mouse, where did or could we have seen a mouse before...?), I was kinda astonished for a second.
...the skeletal-pony isn’t bad either, but the mouse is THE real surprise there.

      >“This is the great nemesis of my people?” she said with a growl >“This is what we suffered and killed and died over? It’s just a rock!”
-Yeah... maximum awkwardness level, Go ! Almost surprised she didn’t say : ‘’Dumb rock !’’ ?
(Quite a ‘’few’’(thousands ? millions ?) zebras must be rolling in their grave from embarrassment... enough for a small earthquake)

      >The gaunt, reaper-like pegasus had nodded to her, answering me cryptically, “Dragon magic.”
-Can’t explain something ? Magic ! ...can’t explain with normal magic either ? Well, huh... Dragon Magic ! :D ...still can’t explain ? I dunno... Quantum Physics ?

      >“Oh yes!” the stallion whinnied proudly. “Ever since that Remedy lass invested
-Ah yes, I remember that ‘’kinda like’’ side-quest, in Fallout 3... rather useful for the ammo and medical merchants.

      ReplyDelete
    14. @Nova25
      >“Do you like it?” Silver Bell chimed, galloping up to us. “I made the cave pretty!”
-Awww... and it’s made with stuff I like : Shiny things.

      >“No,” Gawd re-iterated. “I ain’t lettin’ you have a crossbow so you can name it The Fart.” >Reggie whined, “But mom!”
-This griffin really has original name(s) for ‘Unique Weapon(s)’. :3

      >Xenith’s exotic voice whispered behind me, “If you look at my daughter, I will paralyze you.”
-No wonder she can enter the ‘Single Pony Project’, almost every mares seem to be running after her. ;) (...you know, RD’s stories reference ?)

      >The huge purple and green dragon was staring at the rodent inside with a wrenching mix of emotions.
-The Canterlot Vault’s dragon is, maybe, Spike’s mother ?

      >“The Followers of the Apocalypse.”
-Can’t get more direct of a reference than that, really.

      >“Okay, fine!” I whimpered, giving up. “I’m going to do something I’m sort of good at.” I sighed, covering my face.
-Indeed a line worthy of a picture. ... ...’’Orgasm?’’ ~Funny Homage~. Ditzy was also funny.
Fun thing is also that she didn’t refute those things. ;)

      >Spike stared at me. “Littlepip, you’re the spark.” >“Daymn,” Calamity whinnied. “When the Five are present, a spark will cause the Sixth to be revealed.”
-This is very interesting... always had a few theories around ‘this’ and ‘her’.

      >I was blinded by the blast of greenish flame.
-I say... a small part of one theory... somehow the ‘green fire’, one once conceived to send ‘’message’’ to Celestia, will send her inside the SPP chamber... because, the chamber will intercept and ‘accept’ the ‘’message’’ sent, since it will fit the requirements set into it.

      -----

Direct, simple, and easily said : This, Chapter-44, was the most interesting chapter written of this story, fascinating, in a few words : the best one.

The first few ‘2 days ago/Today’ had made me wonder, if this specific format would cause the ‘story-telling’ of this chapter to be ‘confusing’, but... mmh... the progression was ‘excellent’, well ‘’put together’’. The 'before' (past) and the 'now' timelines, both progressing step by step toward a same point... like 2 roads crossing each other, and becoming one. Surprised how well ‘this’ came together.

If the ‘Final Chapter’ (and Epilogue?) is simply, at least, as good as this one was... this should prove to be more than just a fitting end for this long, mega-multi-part story.
... ... ... ... ... ...still not reading my comments, or... did it changed ? Weeks and months have come to pass.

      @nathandash

I would love that. ^.^ Although I suspect the cost will be somewhere between "prohibitive" and "YIKES".

As for legality, right now I believe that's fine. But who knows what things will look like next week. It looks entirely possible that SOPA is about to make fan-fiction itself illegal.

    17. @Kkat

WHAT!?!? but... WHY?! Why would you (SOPA) want to make fanfiction ilegal?

I don't get it. What's so wrong with fanfiction if the maker of the show it's based off of is totally fine with it?

*sigh* the world grows more and more insane everyday...

      ReplyDelete
    18. @Kkat

Wait, didn't the US Senate (Or House or whatever) ultimately defeat SOPA? I thought that was dead and buried now.

      ReplyDelete
    19. @LordOfTheWrongs

Most likely yeah. But it's still quite fuzzy on the details. And didn't a stasis pod require an external source to let you out?

@Nuub: The mother-*buy some apples* moon? The sun? Extracted pure awesome from Dash? Or just power talismans or something. There's lots of magic that can explain it. Not to mention, there's quite allot that's been self-sufficient over the past way to long years. Sprite bots, the ministry hubs, psudo-alicorns, fluttertree, the batmare, and I'm just rambling here xD

@The Numberman: Not really, they'll just rename it, make the description allot fuzzier and pass it eventually, they've done that with pretty much everything so far. They passed a law that allowed them to assassinate, torture and whatnot anyone in America with full legal rights without having to do shit or even ask a while ago... or tried to pass it. Can't remember which. Could be "is about to" as well.

      @The Numberman

No, SOPA is very much alive. The bill is scheduled to go for markup in the House in three days.

If SOPA passes, it will be a death-knell for fan-fiction, PMVs and the like. Sites like Equestria Daily would be eradicated under the new law.

SOPA looks like it is very likely to pass. The primary reason for this is that the people voting on it are largely elderly men who don't really have a clue how this big and scary newfangled intertube thingie actually works... but they have special interests like the major movie and record labels paying them a lot of money to pass this insanely draconian law in order to protect their pocketbooks from evil cyberterrorists who want to do morally abhorant things like steal their movie trailers and put ponies in them.

      -.-

Take that with a grain of salt. It's entirely possible that I'm ever-so-slightly biased.

    21. @Kkat

      If this passes.

Ahem. in the words of rainbow dash. "MY LIFE IS RUINED!!!"

Man now i'm scared. I heard it probably wasn't going to pass about a month ago, but now. *SQEAK*

      Now i'm scared.

wait. it's ilegal to put ponies on a movie trailer...? Right, if you think about it, it would be...

      ReplyDelete
    22. @Kkat

If I might elaborate on what Kkat has said regarding fanfiction and SOPA and previous comments that seem to have inferred that SOPA somehow makes fanfiction (more) illegal.

Fanfiction is a derivative work, and any derivative work without permission from the copyright holder is copyright infringement, aside from certain exceptions such as fair use (parody, review) or equivalent statures.

Copyright infringement is generally (and at the very least, in the US) not criminally liable. It is up to the original copyright holder to sue for copyright infringement.

Most fanfiction is essentially ignored or even actively encouraged by the original copyright owners, however that doesn't make it any less of a copyright infringement. Some authors discourage or outright sue fanfiction writers and hosters.

SOPA specifically does not change the definitions of copyright, derivative works, fair use or any element of the actual protections of both content creators and users. Instead, SOPA (and Protect IP, a similar act in the Senate) essentially replaces the framework of relief set down by the DMCA.

Under the second title of the DMCA, the OCILLA, copyright holders can lodge a DMCA notice with a website hosting material they believe to be infringing their copyright. The site must then remove such material, however the person who posted such material can submit a counter-notice, at which point the original site has no legal liability and can put the material back up while the two third parties settle in court.

SOPA would essentially make ISPs, search engines and community content hosters (including forums or any site where people can potentially link or host copyright infringing material) immediately liable for copyright infringement. As such, site owners would be very wary of allowing people to post without thoroughly vetting all content.

Now, with all that said, because most copyright owners don't care about fanfiction, SOPA won't suddenly make them more eager to go after it. The other fan produced content wouldn't be too affected either - much like fanfiction, Hasbro don't really care about fanart or remixes and they by themselves might well escape being derivative works. Kkat however is very much correct that SOPA would be very damaging to sites like Equestria Daily, simply because they might think it too much risk to allow people to potentially link to copyright infringing material, not to mention posting the episodes or PMVs using commercial music.

Let me ease a bit of that fear. (Time for that AMGOV class I took last semester to pay off!)

In order for a law to pass it has to be passed in identical form in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. The bill first goes before the leadership of congress, who sends it to committee, who amend and eventually vote on the bill. If it passes, it goes to the floor where it is further amended and voted on. Then we take the two versions from the Senate and the House and compare them. It is incredibly likely that the amendments made in the House and Senate are different. In order for the law to be passed, it needs to be passed in identical form in both the House and the Senate. So, it is further amended and put before the House and Senate. The cycle of amending can continue or they can simply vote the bill in or kill the bill.

The SOPA's sister bill in the Senate, The PROTECT.IP act, has already passed committee, but has been placed on hold (probably until SOPA is out of committee).

At the moment, the SOPA bill is in committee. This is the stage before the bill goes before the floor of the House of Representatives.

The coming markup is an opportunity for the bill to be amended so it can be voted on.

This bill still has a LONG way before it becomes law, and there are many stages that can still kill it.

So keep fighting it! The previous bill like this, the COICAct, failed to pass and I don't think this one will either.

I hope I have relieved some fears. :-)

    24. SOPA is nothing but an old man's view how the world should work. They don't understand that there are normal people out here that never plan on TAKING characters, ideas, etc. but simply USING them in their OWN works of art. If they passed a law saying, "No copyright is allowed ever." art itself would die as ideas ran out. I feel SOPA won't pass though.. but if it does.. may celestia help us all..

      ReplyDelete
    25. @BeatleBrony

Cool. I knew some of that, but not all of it. My simester ain't done yet. ; )

It's still a little scary though. Imagine no Equestria Daily. Just think of what that would do. It would KILL the fandom.

So i'm still worried. May Celestia send SOPA to the moon.

ahem. and in words of Fallout Equestria. May Luna rape them with her horn! lolz. ; )

    26. @s0medud3

I think you might be getting a tiny bit hysterical. The 'old men' who support SOPA are really just mouthpieces for the lobby groups in the music and film industry (RIAA, MPAA) as well as media conglomerates such as Viacom. They care nothing for people making fanfiction (or fanart et cetera) because it doesn't impact their profits. So to suggest that Congress-people have put forward SOPA to impinge upon harmless derivative works is missing both the point of SOPA (in its supporter's minds) as well as glancing over the underlying toxic nature of lobbyists.

SOPA is bad not because it enables copyright owners to fight against infringement, but because it is a harmful way to go about it.

      @Kkat

If you use custom print shops like Lulu or blurb I don't think it will be that expensive. Basically you can send in a document and pick the style, cover, etc. and they will print however many books are ordered, 1-6billion. You can make the book private so only you will see it. I think it will be only moderately more expensive than a normal hardcover book of a similar size.

Also in my earlier posts I said (or at least tried to) that I wanted to give Kkat a hardcover book besides the one I printed for myself (with Kkat's permission of course). nathandash if you want to email me at georgebushnell@san.rr.com I would like to help arrange the book or atleast help fund buying one for Kkat.

Thanks for your hard work Kkat.

      ReplyDelete
    28. Wow, all that talk about copyright is like a reality check under a cold shower. I really hope people come to their senses without harsh, harmful laws get passed. No Equestria Daily...it's just something I really don't want to think about. So much loss for everyone.

I'm gonna go bask in the wonderful land of my pony-fueled imagination now ^_^ No one can take *that* away ever.

      ReplyDelete
    29. Lulu says that an 800 page hardcover (max size) would cost 30 dollars minimum (no profit whatsoever). That is for a 6" X 9" book. You can select for a dust jacket or simply have the title printed on the hard cover. I am not sure how many pages FO:E is but even if the book took 3200 pages (4 books 120) I would still help pay for for Kkat. Anybody know the current page number for FO:E? I know the word count but not the page number. When you are done writing Kkat I hope you can enjoy this gift from your fans if you allow this.

      ReplyDelete
    30. I would like to participate in the "Fund Kkat a hardcopy of her own amazing work" fund too. Autunite, you have mail.

      ReplyDelete
    31. @Autunite

Depends how it's bound - low end would be at least 1000 pages at those dimensions.

      ReplyDelete
    32. @Althain
To add to that, Calibre, using the APNX algorithm (used in Kindles to match pages to the real editions) gives a page count of 2134 (word count is 590,144).

      ReplyDelete
    33. So then it will take 3 books (800 page max). Seems reasonable.

      ReplyDelete
    34. The Fallout: Equestra Trilogy. I'm loving the sound of that!

      ReplyDelete
    35. Just print and bind enough copies for each of us hardcore fans to privately order before SOPA gets a chance to even become law. At the moment, if it's all kept quiet, and no profit is made from the sale of the books, everything shall be just peachy.

Stories like these need to be preserved in a physical, hard-cover tome. So that maybe one day, someone will stumble upon the book, read it and take the lessons and morals in, and then sell it on for 100 bottlecaps.

(As an aside; I'd rather the real-world's post-apocalyptic currency be ring pulls from canned drinks, because those ring pulls are made of pure aluminium, yet are extremely common in this world where bottlecaps are already a scarce item.)

      ReplyDelete
    36. It's really great to hear that other people are making arrangements to get this thing printed. A real testimony to the impact of the story.

As for legality issues I doubt any print-on-demand is going to look too hard at what we're doing if we're only making one or two copies each. I could be wrong but if we never try to sell them I can't see how it'd be profitable to come after a bunch of college students and such.

      ReplyDelete
    37. @Mattatatta

      1) SOPA is not going to result in this fanfic being taken down, prevent its distribution or make it illegal. In addition, this isn't time-sensitive - I myself complusively download all fanfiction that I'm even slightly interested in so I can a) read it on a tablet/e-reader and b) have a copy of it even if the author later takes it down.

      2) If it is kept quiet, sure everything would be 'peachy' in that you'd potentially be breaking the law without getting caught. Distributing it at a loss would probably be ok. Distributing it for any revenue, even to make up costs would be less ok.

If you want my honest opinion? The Fallout IP is currently caught between the makers of the first two games and the most recent two games. Hasbro care more about the toy line than anything else. Nevertheless, distributing it opens you up to legal risk, and that risk goes up if you start charging for it.

      3) Lulu is a publishing service, not a printing service, and would be rediculously hot water for all involved. I'm not sure if Lulu vet all the books they publish, but I can bet they don't want to handle risky cases like this.

Basically, what I'm trying to get across to everyone is not to panic about SOPA (or at least, panic about it, because it is bad, but not because FO:E will be affected by it) and not to do anything rash with regards to printing/distribution/publishing, as it will be not only yourselves at legal risk, but also Kkat and the fandom in general.

Finally, fanfiction in general already exists on shaky legal ground. There have been numerous furors within the community where authors have held chapters for ransom. Two examples (both in the Harry Potter fandom) spring to mind: I believe one author had an ill friend and asked for donations towards their healthcare, and the other, more recent example, was the popular 'HP: Methods of Rationality' fanfic where the author started a donation drive for (his own) charity with a promise to release a chapter earlier if certain goals were met. Neither case led to any sort of legal repercussions, but I believe FanFiction.net has had to shut down fandom sections before due to complaints from the original owners.

      ReplyDelete
    38. @Althain
After looking at Lulu, I'm starting to agree with you here. Lulu is above all a "Publisher" not a "Printer". Sure printing comes with publishing, but publishing brings in a lot more legal issues.

      We need a quality printer.

Also, no matter how we get it printed, it's going to need reformatting and some cover art (Shooting for trade size hardcover with dust jacket).

      ReplyDelete
    39. It's gonna be so funny when after this story is done, a week later Kkat checks for mail, and there is like OVER 9000 DIFFERENT HARDCOVER BOOKS!!! (over 9000, I had to.)

      ReplyDelete
    40. @Althain
I bet we could find a way even if I have to print all the pages on my printer and then hand bind it. I bet that with enough research we can find a way. If not then we will keep it as an ebook. Or nothing if we can't even do that. But I sincerely hope that we can give thanks by giving Kkat a book. And if not we will find another way to say thank you and to encourage her to continue to write these awesome and intriguing stories.

      ReplyDelete
    41. I look at other sites. If we can't then we can at least make an ebook or simply compile it all and add art.

We don't even know Kkat's response yet so it might not even make it so far, but I am hopeful that there is a way.

      ReplyDelete
    42. Here's an idea: If you want a hardcopy book of FoE, make it yourself for yourself. Trying to sell FoE in any form violates a gazillion copyright things, no to mention that Kkat doesn't want anyone to sell something that she gives away for free on the internet. If you really have to have your own hardcopy book, then get it printed for yourself instead of doing something as stupid as trying to sell and ship copies for profit.

      ReplyDelete
    43. @Derpmind
I was thinking about creating an ebook with other fans and then we can send the document to Kkat. She could then print herself a copy using the document. Funding will be the hard part (might not even be possible). But I was thinking that Kkat could create a PayPal that we could send money to. If not then we can at least still make the ebook.

      ReplyDelete
    44. @Autunite
Through the wonders of the Python programming language, I've automated converting fanfics posted on Equestria Daily using Google Docs or Deviantart (or for that matter FiMFiction or FanFiction.net) into EPUB, Mobi or HTML format. The difficult part in printing it will be the typesetting and formatting for the specific printer.

      ReplyDelete
    45. @nathandash so i heard SOPA likes Spananas? Likes bananas....

      ReplyDelete
    46. @Mattatatta
Yeah, I really do hope that the post-apocolyptic currency isn't bottlecaps, I've only seen those at Potbelly's. Those tabs would be better, or hell even toothpaste caps...or double A batteries XD

      ReplyDelete
    47. Couple things: SOPA probably won't pass, because it still has to be signed by Obama. It's an election cycle and Obama's on shaky ground already. He signs SOPA and he undermines his #1 demographic: under-30s. He won't risk it. (And I doubt that the Senate/House will be able to pass a post-veto vote.) As for SOPA affecting IP like MLPFiM. True, Hasbro may never go after a site like EqD. However. Because SOPA allows Hasbro to also sue EqD's hosting, more and more hosting sites are going to crack down preemptively, to save future legal costs.

Your best bet for printing/self-binding these is probably that plastic spiral-bound format. Heck, I can do that at my work. The downside to that is that most spirals hold relatively few pages (I've never seen more than 200 or so). Which means a /lot/ of "volumes".

Lulu ain't gonna touch this. Fedex/Kinko's doc management might.

I was wondering, I know you gave another fan the list of chapters you would divide into separate books, but what were they again? And if you could add subtitles to those books, what would they be

      ReplyDelete
    49. @Kkat

I really hope this SOPA thing doesn't pass. Sounds insanely retarded.

Anyway what I was wanting to post was that I finally have all 6 statuettes made. Just now need to get them painted, will more that likely be starting tomorrow and find somewhere to get the plaques made.

A group picture can be found on my DA page here:

      Any feedback/advice is appreciated. Thanks.

    50. ...ok... It has been going on for far too long now... I want to ask, I want to know... Might not be the most brilliant idea, but I'm tired and want to dissipate this 'aura' of discomfort and uneasiness.

-This is addressed to Khatman, and hopefully should be answered by Her only-

Before starting, I want to stipulate this is asked calmly, politely, and strictly toward the goal of solving some dead-old issue, that shouldn't *Be* anymore, but still somewhat linger around.

(sigh)...ok... A relatively long time ago, you clearly stated (and even repeated) that you wouldn't care/read my comments anymore (hammering especially the 'all will be read but me' fact. Some (other) people taking to heart to make sure people didn't forget that), because you hated/disliked/didn't appreciate/(pick a word) my... style/format/occasional sharpness/selection of words (feel free to add...) of *some* of my comments.

...this was weeks, and even months ago, now...

And so... I suppose the question is... Do you now, truly, read *All* comments ? Does this 'feud' (I think this is the word for it; I'm using Google translator) ended ? Would you be so kind as to... say it, if yes ?

I can only add a last sentence : No, I never hated this story, contrary to what some (other) people seem strongly inclined to believe, as 'somewhat disliking' a mere fraction of something (nothing is perfect) isn't equal to hating its entirety.
      -Thanks for... reading.-

    51. 44 was a great chapter, but there were three pieces in particular that I thought were exceptionally notable.

      1) My absolute favorite scene of the entire chapter, and it's only three words "None shall pass."
For Strawberry Lemonade to say that is just so heart-wrenchingly sweet, it drives me to tears even thinking about it now. I think SteelHooves would be proud of her.

      2) The scene immediately after that, with everyone pointing out what LittlePip "does best". Making fun of Pip has always been good fun, but I think this was a top-notch example of it.

      3) Finally there's the scene between Calamity and his father. It was just one of your average well-done scenes, up until the end. You took the (probably) overused "I really like her mane" and turned it into a genuinely emotional line with really great impact.

There's so many other good parts to the chapter (like Xenith being back, and surprisingly not an earth pony - and Ditzy being awesome), but those three just stand out the most. I'll be looking forward to seeing what happens next.

    52. All I really want is for the name of a printing company to be found, and an idea of how much it would cost for them to print one copy (assuming such a business doesn't require minimum bulk orders).

And as for paying shipping costs and the like for a copy of the book, recall that Purple Tinker had custom US postal stamps printed by USPS that featured Derpy, and then distibuted them to people who wanted them. I think the costs of printing and shipping were covered by everyone who wanted some, either that or just the cost of mailing them to their recipients was covered and Purple Tinker covered the cost of the stamps being printed and sent to her out of her own pocket.

What I'm saying is that those stamps do technically violate copyright. And yet USPS printed them, took money for printing them, and Purple Tinker took money to post them all over the world, and nobody jumped on that screaming "lawsuit".

Still, regardless of how large the grey area is, if I personally find a way to get a physical copy of this story fabricated, I'd see to it that it happens. The rest of you can either shy away from having a hard-copy due to fear of having your door banged down and your house bathed in flames, or take a chance and make your own copy to keep long after your hard drive that has the story saved on it dies and the online links go dead..

      ReplyDelete
    53. @Mattatatta
But the thing is Matt, Kkat, the author we are trying to honor by printing her work, wants us to stay as far away from that grey area as we can.

If that means that we can't get a high quality physical copy, then out of respect for Kkat, I will settle for whatever we do get.

I want three, trade size, hardbacks with dust jackets as must as the next brony, but if we have to settle for a Kinko's printout, I'm sure that Kkat will still be honored, and even more so that we respected her wishes.

      ReplyDelete
    54. @BeatleBrony

In fairness I think we do Kkat enough honour with all the artwork, game mods, side stories, G-mod skins, figures, discussing the story, trying to figure out what she's planning, commenting and giving feedback.

But like you've said, if kkat doesn't wan't us to go anywhere near that gray area it's best we stay as clear from it as we can.

      ReplyDelete
    55. @Mattatatta
Everyone printing their own copy is exactly what should happen.
The legally problematic part (well, more legally problematic than fanfic in general) is when you start printing multiple copies and sending them off to others in return for money. Asking only for printing costs is probably okay, but you're relying on the good graces of the copyright holder in that case.*

*I am not a lawyer and this opinion does not constitute legal advice.

    56. @Althain

Yea. I probably am a bit hysterical. From my point of view though, being a photomanipulator, working with other peoples things is my forte. SOPA's just gonna make me worry more whether or not I have to contact a company before using any image at all.

      ReplyDelete
    57. @Althain

The question now is where to break up the books.

      ...wait.

I have to go back and change the cover now to add moar title.

      ReplyDelete
    60. Food for thought:

Let's say many books are made.

      Then apocalypse happens.

One vault dweller begins to travel around world.

      And finds said books.

I personally would feel some strange deja-vu type of feeling.

      ReplyDelete
    61. @s0medud3
I'm pretty sure each volume would give him a bonus to a different stat.

      ...

We need to split FOE into seven parts.

      ReplyDelete
    62. Oooh, or we could do 3 volumes of FOE (Strength, Endurance, Agility), 3 volumes of Project Horizons (Perception, Charisma, Intelligence), and one for Pink Eyes (Luck).

      ReplyDelete
    63. @silentcarto

LOL. Sure, we'll part the books with art pieces and stuff :-D

      @S0medud3...and everyone else

      Write this down:

      Volume 1: Introduction - Chapter 9/12 {undecided}
      Volume 2: Chapter 10/13 - Chapter 21 {undecided}
      Volume 3: Chapter 22 - Chapter 29
      Volume 4: Chapter 30 - Chapter 38
      Volume 5: Chapter 39 - Afterwords

      ReplyDelete
    64. Oups, that's 5 books, not 3. Oh well. That's where Kkat would set breaks if she were to separate everything into volumes.

      ReplyDelete
    65. @BeatleBrony

I'm gonna get what I can get, but that doesn't mean I'll settle with numerous, binder-sized books with a cheap plastic cover.

      ReplyDelete
    66. @silentcarto
What about six parts? One for each of the Statutes.

      Volume One - Be Strong
      Volume Two - Be Unwavering
      ...

I forget the order she finds them in Goshdarnit!

Also what's our cover art at the moment?

I also had another idea. At the start of every chapter, we have a small sketch above the title and quote, then the first word, then only a few more lines. I'm not sure how well I described that, but to me it seems cool.

Here is a pic of how I imagine it: http://i41.tinypic.com/2v93xi1.png

I don't own that sketch, this is just a visualization and the text would probably be smaller.

If we find someplace that can print us nice books, or even for a very nice ebook version, does anyone want to do about 45 sketches for chapter intros?

      ReplyDelete
    67. @BeatleBrony

      Brilliant :-) I love it

      ReplyDelete
    68. @silentcarto

you shure wanna go with Intelligence for BJ? Fun aside... but that would be wrong in so many ways...

but "be Awesome" as Volume #6... yay that would fit realy well and would be just...ya kind of... awesome....

      ReplyDelete
    69. @BeatleBrony

I actually really like the idea of the statuetts. I think I can alter each cover to exactly where LittlePip finds the first individual statuettes.

and my personal cover art was going to be this: http://n1tangale.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4fh8on

      ReplyDelete
    70. @s0medud3

what i would imagin for mine would be a thick, bronish leather binding

and as a image at the front something simple like a the vault/stable logo or something similare....

      ReplyDelete
    71. Alright then! Somepony get on drawing 45 pics for each chapter. :-)

      @s0medud3

Cool! However, do you have an extension of the pic? So it can go all the way around the book?

Also, could the title be closer to the Fallout logo? With the title in italics and in a slanted box? (http://images.wikia.com/fallout/images/c/c0/Fallout_3_cover_art.png)

Not being mean at all, it just seems a bit too simplistic.

Also, if we do end up getting some sort of print, we should try and set a standard. It's not quite as cool if everyone who has a printed copy has a different cover, or different other stuff.

Not to say that a unique copy isn't bad, it's just that if everypony that wanted one had the same copy, it'd mean a bit more.

I dunno, that's just sort of my personal opinion.

      ReplyDelete
    72. @nuub3d

All I can see from reading that is the book from the Season One pilot opening up with "Once upon a time..."

Only the logo isn't that awesome pony head, but something Fallout related.

      ReplyDelete
    73. @BeatleBrony

I did try really hard to get that look to match nice on the front, but it always seemed to stray too far from the book and more like a full out fallout parody.

      ReplyDelete
    74. And now for something completely different. A little something I thought up.

      ****

This is an excerpt of one of DJ Pon3's many broadcasts from Tenpony tower. After meeting the wasetland heroine, she would often poke fun of the mare live on air. This is one of those moments.

      "GOOD EVENING WASTELANDERS!

That last tune was Sweetie Bell singin' 'bout how everypony has done something they regret.

Up next we got a little something special! A request from my assistant. This song goes out to everypony's favorite toaster repair-pony: the wasteland heroine herself!"

      The song played: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=977XcnAP9Hw

"Now how on earth did that track get in there!?"

I am ok with making many different covers for people interested, just same rules as kkat's.

I'm thinking of a brown leather binding with maybe a light green hardcover that makes it look old. Then the title, author, and stable logo gold embossed on the front.

If that's what you're thinking to, then I can do it in maybe a week, depending on Skyrim and other projects (Angels on the Moon).

The hard part isn't drawing it, it's getting the real thing.

      ReplyDelete
    77. @BeatleBrony

I missed the cover wrap around thing.

Status = in progress as of... n... nnnn... now

      ReplyDelete
    78. I for one like s0medud3's cover. Sure, there are things that I can see I'd like changed, but the title's font is not one of them.

Personally, for example, I'd reduce the amount of "real estate" the four lines are taking up, and look into possible colour alternatives. I would also try to keep the weathered-away look set down by the title and author fonts.

That's it. I'm gonna spend a part of this evening looking into getting a hard cover book made, even if it's with my own hands. Skyrim can wait.

      ReplyDelete
    79. @Mattatatta

i looked that serie and that book up. something like that yes but a bit smaller... maybe like the book of "the never ending storie" ^^ and instead of the snakes the stable/vault logo... maby Vault 2 logo...
under the main vault logo at the bottom or at the back...

      @s0medud3
yay sounds nice look what i write above vault/stable logo on the front vault 2 logo on the back or such thing

      ReplyDelete
    82. Well, I'm pleased to see so many tutorials on hand-making hardcover books. Though I must say that Lulu is looking like the best option for me, since I lack the crafting skill, materials, and patience to make several volumes. I'm willing to bet that it would be more cost effective for me to spend 105 bucks (according to Lulu's calculator) on three books, than to shell out for the paper, printer ink, glue, knives, and still leave the quality of the books up to how well I can learn to book-bind while making the final product.

      ReplyDelete
    83. @Mattatatta

Did you have thoughts on color for the hook? I'm tempted to just keep the same color used on the main title and author. (thought it does look ok as well).

And I condensed the text well down below the stable number.

    87. What does everypony think about a voting thing? to see what looks the coolest? we could all do part of something and give one to Kkat. (Or something like that.)

Kkat you should make like a voting post thing, and have it posted. (However that would work.)

does anypony else like the idea or is it just me?

      ReplyDelete
    88. I'll participate if a poll pops up, but I'm curious to see what s0medud3 can come up with

      ReplyDelete
    89. I like the poll. We should do this somewhere else like facebook or deviant art so we don't spam up this area. Facebook could be the public area and deviant art could be where we post all the artwork we were thinking about. Then we could do the book as a google doc and the ones who want to edit the book get the editing link. And the standard link can be posted on the facebook link so everybody and see it.

I like the idea of having the simple innercover with the embossed vault tec symbol and then we could have a detailed dust jacket like what s0medud3 created. Also I like the idea of having sketches before the chapters because it reminds me of the Harry Potter books.

Also about the post apocalyptic currency my brother as a joke has been collecting bottle caps (mostly coke but there are some sarsaparilla bottles), he has about a hundred and they are really loud. Traders would be heard from a long way away lol.

      ReplyDelete
    90. I have 2 new versions of the cover up on deviant art now.

      http://n1tangale.deviantart.com/

I will work simutaneously on the applejack image and hardcover over this week as well.

      ReplyDelete
    91. @s0medud3

Those covers are really nice, my favourite is FO:E recover 1 though.
Also instead of using a Vault-Tec Vault Door, I think using something more like a giant barn door would be more in keeping with the pony themed Stable-Tec. Though I can't remember off the top of my head if Kkat ever described the door itself.

      Just my two bits!

      ReplyDelete
    92. I wonder what Kkat thinks of the poll idea...

      ReplyDelete
    93. @The Numberman

Yea, she never did do that. I'm not sure if my level of expertise can recreate an entire door though.

      ReplyDelete
    94. I don't remember what they looked like. I just always though of them as cog shaped like the game. I should reread the book

      ReplyDelete
    95. @s0medud3

FO:E Recover 1 gets my vote hands down. I love it ^_^ You're awesome

      ReplyDelete
    96. @The Numberman
      @s0medud3

I thought she described them as like the Vault-tech doors...

That might have just been the fact that I read the first two chapters in the form of the animated comic...

"A loud clanging filled the air, followed by a hissing of steam and a great rumble that shook the room. As I watched, the massive bolt that held the door from Stable Two shut slid back. A huge hinge-arm swung down, attaching itself to the door, and with a teeth-hurting squeal, pulled the massive steel door out and away."

I'd say that pretty much describes how the vault doors operated in Fallout 3.

Anyhoof, I agree that I like Recover 1 as well.

And just for further confirmation, in what order did Littlepip find the statues? I can't remember.

Also, I think we might want to set up someone to lead this project of getting it printed. A lot of ideas are being thrown around, but nopony is taking control.

      ReplyDelete
    97. I created a facebook group called Fallout: Equestria book design.

      linky:
      http://www.facebook.com/groups/FalloutEquestria/

I don't have much experience with facebook group management but Ill give admin access to some others so they can help me. Once you are in we can start talking on there. If you want to do this on some other site please give suggestions!

      ReplyDelete
    98. @mBeatleBrony

That does describe the door opening essentially the same as Fallout. Though I still can't imagine that a Stable-Tec door would look the same as a Vault-Tec door. But in the grand scheme of things, I suppose it isn't really that important.

      ReplyDelete
    99. Hey Kkat, I was wondering if you could clear something up? Just how many ponies, roughly, are there supposed to be in the Wasteland and in the Enclave?

      ReplyDelete

      ReplyDelete
    101. @BeatleBrony
Volume six could be extras, memorable comments, artwork, maybe an interview with Kkat.

      @BeatleBrony
I could just see that happening :)

      @The Numberman
The traditional vault door has advantages over a barn style. The interlocking teeth would prevent it from being dislodged at an angle or rolled out of the way. The only force that could move it is a forward push at a perfect angle. This is why the screw mech. is so important on the door, it effectively prevents the only weak point of the door from failing. The game developers did their homework with this one.

Actually, the whole vault design is very well thought out.

      ReplyDelete
    102. I just realized the Twilight Sparkle statuette will be very VERY depressing and emotional... for those that know that part.

      ReplyDelete
    103. One more idea before I log. What if I kept my original cover for the first volume, since it is the first true image from the outside and should encompass the Intro, then the next three have 2 each, one in front and one in back, then the last volume has littlepip in the middle of the whole collection?

There is already somebrony lined up to create an e-reader version of Fallout: Equestria which will be made freely available from his DA website. I have given him permission to do so, asking only that he wait until the story is finished. (He currently does this with over a dozen high-quality, in-progress pony fics.)

As for me, I don't actually have a Kindle or anything else that utilizes the ebook/e-reader format.

      ReplyDelete

ooooh! They look awesome! Thank you for all your hard work. I can't wait to see them painted!

      ReplyDelete
    112. Alright everypony! Here is the deal on printing.

We have created a group on Facebook for us to comment on and generate ideas for the printing of Fallout: Equestria.

      This includes:
      - Searching for the method of printing that is the most legal
      - Ideas for format
      - Ideas for art
      - Ideas for astetic of the book itself

So, if at all possible, please move your discussion over to that group.

We are currently experimenting with how we would put together the fic. We however will not start real work on the final version until a few weeks after Kkat has finished writing it (as per her earlier request).

      Check it out here: http://www.facebook.com/groups/FalloutEquestria/

    114. I still read all comments. On rare occasion, I resort to only "skimming" a comment, but this is usually due to the comment either being part of a side conversation that I'm not particularly interested in (such as the FOE-characters gender-swap discussion, or the nine-thousandth "what is Kkat's gender" argument*) or (rarely) an argument between fans.

Most of the time, I pay each comment my full, undivided attention. I feel it is the least that I owe the fans willing to take the time to write commentary.

That said, if an individual repeatedly comes across as unpleasant and abrasive, I do tend to prepare myself accordingly before reading, and I likewise stop reading should that person's comment become insulting, upsetting or simply annoying.

Hope that helps clear things up. ^.^

    117. I must admit, all the talk of a hard-bound copy of Fallout: Equestria is really making me wish I had one too. There is no end to the level of cool that would be.

I'm a little concerned about how well it would work. The formatting of this story is really designed for reading on a screen of full-sized page. I don't know how my format of Arial 10pt single-spaced (with double-spaced paragraphs) would translate on a book-sized page.

      Still... hardcover FOE... Glee!

      ReplyDelete
    118. I have a question, Kkat.

(Okay, I know it's some sort of popular social networking thing. I'm not that behind the times. But I've never used it or been to it before.)

My inclination would be to say "let's hold off on adding a link to that until we see what becomes of it."

I love the idea of what the group is for. But the facebook thingie has only existed a few hours. Let's see if it stands the test of time before adding links?

you should visit the page, we have some great idea's going, some which are being made.

but i can wait to send sethisto a confirm until your ok with it. (if you ever are. i won't try to perswade you...)

    123. Since this fic has inspired so many readers to go get Fallout 3, I think it's worth mentioning that GOG.com is currently selling Fallout 1 and 2 for 2.99 each as part of its Holiday Sale.

It's as good a time as any to get acquainted or reacquainted with the classics.

      As metapsionic said:

      Volume 1: Introduction - Chapter 12
      Volume 2: Chapter 13 - Chapter 21
      Volume 3: Chapter 22 - Chapter 29
      Volume 4: Chapter 30 - Chapter 38
      Volume 5: Chapter 39 - Afterwords

As for volume titles? If I had to chose something beyond good ol' roman numerals, I'd go the "Babylon 5" route and chose a particularly apt chapter title from one of the chapters in each volume to also be the volume title.

    129. Holy bucking shit. I thought I had figured this whole thing out, and i did have Littlepip's plan right, down to the letter, but I was not, and I mean I was NOT expecting Princess Celestia to be there! Mind=blown once again. I thought Littlepip was gonna end up as Mr. House, but maybe it's Celestia now. I'll have to keep reading. I'll throw in random comments as I go.

    132. I have always wanted to write a play by play and never been able to. Here we are full circle. It's been a long journey and I suppose we'll be saying good bye before the new year. I don't mean to get so somber but at some point this stopped being just another fanfic!

One more cliff-hanger, for old time's sake!

      ReplyDelete
    133. I was surprised by the sudden appearance of Chapter 45. But I decided to open it up and read it now since I'm already late for bed.

I don't regret doing that. This chapter was one big twist after another, and now, I am not sure whether or not the story has ended. It may have come full circle, and the few lines read like an ending of an entire story, but the Gardens of Equestria, Celestia's offer, and the fact that Pip needs her friends as much as they need her tells me otherwise.

This is a cliffhanger that isn't ending on a character possibly dying (or when Pip has a cliffhanger moment, being horribly maimed) at the start of the next chapter, but a cliffhanger that is ending on the reader's uncertainty of this chapter being the final chapter or there being just a little more mileage left in this Bandit before the journey has to end.

    134. So I may be herpin my derp, but theres no way after she downloads her memory to go back out of the machine and take the dragonfire portal back to her friends, right?

      ReplyDelete
    135. Well, ok I guess she is going through with it. I thought maybe she'd be able to set up a way for Celestia to control everything, but I guess she doesn't have the platinum chip.
I still wonder what happened to Rainbow Dash and Fluttertree, but I guess that just gives the side story writers something to do. :)
So this is clearly the last chapter, as I expected. Any chance there will be an epilogue? I'm guessing yes, since the Fallout games always have one, and you included a Fallout style prologue already.

    139. This story has been making me cry with almost every chapter, sometimes in happiness, most times in sorrow, rage, and pain. It's powerful, to say the least.

I'm willing to bet that with part forty-five, all that will be left is maybe one last chapter, with an epilogue. This story seems to be almost complete now.

In a way I almost wish I had delayed in reading it till a few weeks from now, so I could read it start to finish without having to wait on the edge of my seat so close to the end.

      ReplyDelete
    140. I didn't feel like I could make a reading commentary. I felt like it would interfere too much with reading the final chapter.

In the future, I might make a simple response. For now however, I have only one thing to say:

      fin.

      ReplyDelete
    141. *Princess Celestia appears!*

      WHAT THE FUUUUUUU~

Okay, that was me five minutes ago. And the shock on my face still hasn't quite worn off yet. Holy shit. I mean, you'd have thought that she wasn't alive, but GAWD DAMMIT SHE IS.

      See what I did there?

Sure, that's her skeleton right there. But all things considered, she's still alive. So yeah. Anyways, I can't say anything about this chapter. I just can't. What could I say?

      Well I could ask something...

IS THIS THE END? Seriously, is this the ending we were told was coming? Because if it is... I am not satisfied. I don't think I ever will be.

      MOAR. GIMME MOAR.

      ReplyDelete
    143. Her friends still need her, I think. I hope she doesn't go in (or at least doesn't stay longer than is necessary to end the war), and instead plugs Celestia in. Since they left the Crusader mainframe in there at all, I'm guessing the people who disagreed with it's disconnection left it there as a "in case you're wrong" measure, in which case it should be possible to hook it up, but not in the timescale presented. But after that, I think Celestia should be given control, and LittlePip can go where she's REALLY needed.

      ReplyDelete
    144. Oh jesus, Is this the last Chapter? I mean, it fits. But god do I not want this to be the last chapter.

      Awesome work, I'm bloody speechless.

      ReplyDelete
    145. So, having just read chapter 45, I'll quickly give my thoughts about the whole thing.

I really hope that this isn't the end, but I'd be content if it was, strangely enough. Despite that, however, I also really want closure to the story, just like in the fallout 3 you got to see what happened to the Capital Wasteland after you brought back clean water. Anyway, this chapter was one of the best in the entire story, it constantly bombards the reader with new twists and explanations of previous events in a way that should be familiar to any reader of FoE. The pacing was perfect, the little touches such as Littlepip's talk with Celestia and her reminiscing about Scootaloo, Homage, Rainbow dash and all the other things that remind the reader why we love Littlepip. IIRC there was talk about both an epilogue and an aftermath, and since the story doesn't have the complete tag, I will assume that the story isn't quite ended.

I just wanted to say all this so that Kkat would know just how much Fallout Equestria has effected me. I have always toyed with the idea of writing something and telling a story to the world, but this story drives me to do so and I will certainly use it as inspiration if I ever get around to actually writing something. The amazing ways that this story has gotten me to think about life and the way it has pulled me into it's world and characters is nothing short of breath-taking, and that is what has convinced me to write this long-winded comment.

Anyway, I'd like to say thank you Kkat for deeply impacting my life with this story and I have faith that the ending to it all will be just as grand as what has led to it.

      ReplyDelete
    146. I'm all teary eyed. This was a good read. Thank you Kkat for sharing it with us.

    150. In addition to the other "woo final chapter" comments going around, I'd like to take a moment to congratulate you on churning out a whopping 600,000 words in only 8 months. That much quality story in that small of a timeframe is absolutely astounding, and hella speedier than most professional, make-a-living writers can do.

      ReplyDelete
    151. Oh sweet, merciful Luna... The ending... God... I'm totally speechless right now... Despite the fact that not a single shot was fired in the last chapter... it is the single most intense one yet... That ending...

I really, really wished there could be a 'happy' ending for Littlepip, where she may finally be able to merrily prance in a meadow with all of her friends. But admittedly, this... this makes so much more sense...

Also, the whole Celestia is still alive thing is probably going to destroy a few side stories, but that's okay... You know, a friend of mine actually GUESSED she would be in there... and DAMN if it isn't such a sad ending for Celestia... At least she now has Littlepip to keep her company... T_T

My tear just won't stop... argh... guess I won't be getting any sleep tonight.

    155. Is this it? The end? Has it come, after all this time? I don't think so. And I don't believe it. I don't want to.

It's 2am, but dammit, this story deserves to be seen through to the end. Now.

"The Virtue of Littlepip" Sacrifice? Yeah, pretty much. Sadly, yet fittingly.

"You’re just looking at it wrong, she told me, pointing to the mirror, but not to me. Pointing instead to the approaching caravan and the family I was giving my life to protect. Look behind you." Pinkie Pie has officially become a god. Or at least a prophet of some kind. Precognition of the highest degree coupled with the spirit of laughter and happiness. Now THAT'S a god.

"My feelings are not surprising, for sacrifice and generosity are closely tied." Generosity is a gift, but only to others. How far has Pip been willing to go? I don't think there was ever an end in sight.

"Nor was I truly Applesnack." Or Rarity, Red Eye, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, Colgate, whatever. She's just, Pip. That's all.

"I died." Wait, she did? Really? Fuck.

"But in those seconds, the colt had slipped in the bathtub, hit his head and drowned." Seconds. Right.

"I died. I came back." Oh. Fucking yay!

"If this was heaven, it left a lot to be desired. If it was hell, then hell was lame." Nothing is boring. Purgatory is usually represented by nothing, so maybe this is it. I always imagined a kind of waiting room.

"Still, I suspected she had not been here for more than a few weeks." How the fuck did she get in? Spike... Ooohhh, the pegasus he burned to death in the armor. Interesting.

"Spike had certainly been trying to “send a message” to the Enclave. A dull pain began to thud in my mind as thought about it." They could see her from the other side of the shield, couldn't they? Assuming she could get the doors open. And I must scream, indeed. Only it's really cold this time.

"Dragon magic. One more thing to add to the list of Stuff That Makes My Head Hurt. Right up there between Enclave politics and rock farming." Honestly, magic in general. Kkat seems to have made a decent grab at it, but it's still a fuzzy subject. Flaw of the medium, I'm sure.

“You trespass in the sanctum of Nightmare Moon!” wat.

"A bar of static crept up the left screen, distorting Nightmare Moon’s right wing." Wait. Wait, three screens? Is, is this... is this a think tank? Is this a sorta expy of Mobius?

“Destiny is what you make it to be,” Celestia told me." Ahaha! I knew she wasn't dead! But, I never suspected THIS. Why didn't I? Oh well, keep reading.

“You are Littlepip, she of the colorful vulgarities, am I right?” This is quite possibly the greatest sentence I have ever read from anypony, ever.

“I put those children there for a joke!” Trollestia finally had something blow up in her face. But this is such a huge and massive thing... My god, she must feel terrible. Everything. The war, the wasteland, the deaths, everything! All for a tiny, little, damn, joke. What the hell.

“...and as a reward, I have been trapped here, in My prison, My purgatory. Listening to the victims of My sins, unable to act. Unable to help.” It's one thing to be trapped, unable to move, unable to do anything. But to have to listen to all the pain and suffering you've caused, perhaps for eons afterward... That isn't hell. Nothing comes close to a torture like this, especially for somepony like Celestia.

“What... what did happen to You?” I just wanted to point out your use of the royal we and the capitalization and whatnot. Nice touch.

“The spells were so easy to learn that I knew them the moment I opened those pages. And how could I have resisted just a look?” WHAT. This doesn't seem to have any implications off the bat, and it's revelation is still shocking. Like Dr. Leonard Church.

      Well... it's not over yet.

We've come full circle on Pip's story. Now it's time for the conclusion to everyone else's stories.

Remember the Prologue: "If I’m going to tell you about the adventure of my life -- explain how I got to this place with these people, and why I did what I’m going to do next".

We've now come to the end of "how I got to this place with these people".

It's time for the "why I did what I’m going to do next".

    161. (Apologies for the deleted posts, Google told me to go fuck myself.)

"…hell, it would be worth it just for Silver Bell to get to see real rainbows." I change my biggest reason for the sun coming back to that.

"ROCKOPOLIS" Little Lamplight expy, maybe? This seems fitting.

“I love you, Littlepip.” Oh, my. Dammit Kkat! You drive me to feel SADNESS.

“You can go, help them with their fight, and send someone else in your place tomorrow. You don’t have to do this anymore.” She won't do it. She can't do it. Can she? I want her to, but my will does not dictate plot. Hehe, plot. This fandom has ruined that word for me.

"As I realized what I had just said aloud, and to whom, my face broke into the fiercest blush. But Celestia’s expression caused me to collapse in laughter." Aaaand laughter. Phew, thank god. I almost wanted to kill myself it was so depressing.

“I’m here. And I’m not leaving you.” She did it. She fucking did it. I can't believe she did it. Godammit, why did she do it? I already know that.

"Finally, I stood up again. It was time." It's time? Already? But I feel like we are only getting started.

"This was going to be a big responsibility." You are about to become a god, after all. It can be a little overwhelming.

"Never did learn what finally happened to Rainbow Dash, the little pony in my head mused. Probably for the best. It’s good that there are still some mysteries." God dammit. We aren't going to find that out? Really? Ugh, Kkat, you tease.

"Two months. The copy process should only take minutes. Add an hour for editing and adding in a few thoughts…" What... No. It, it isn't. This isn't... Kkat, what are you doing.

"If I’m going to tell you about the adventure of my life" ... No words can clearly express the amount of... things I feel about this. Or rather, how I feel about this. Epic, not awesome enough. Awesome? Muddied by RBD. Perfect? Hm, that one seems good. Let's go with that.

I hope this isn't the end. But I think it is. I await the epilogue, then the afterward with bated breath.

Thank you for writing this, Kkat. Not only has it given me many hours of enjoyment and wonder, but it also rekindled my love for the Fallout series. And yet, all I can give in return is my thanks. I wish I could give more. I can't write, draw, or give you money. So I guess these "commentaries" are my way of saying thanks. It's the least I can do. Thank you.

      ReplyDelete

I've had way to much alcohol and this is finally over.

Maybe it's because it's been stuck in my head for a couple days, maybe not... but for some reason I think that "Cara Mia Addio" is extremely appropriate for the end of this epic.

You have brought a fitting end to one of the greatest tales I have ever experienced. Be proud.

...And now you can go read some of those side-stories :P

Kkat, I know you will read the side-fics when you are done, but seeing as the end is near, might I suggest Heroes by No One?

It really is a great, well planned fic.

    186. A bittersweet end at any rate, but, being a Fallout veteran from the start, I can't say I expected any different. The Wasteland has a nasty habit of shitting on your happy endings.

I'm proud to say that this fic was the final hook, line and sinker that got me into this fandom. In fact, calling this story a "fic" is almost derogatory. Try... Legend. It's a legend. This is the benchmark now, for fanfiction writers of all fandoms. Kkat, you've written a masterpiece whose scope dwarfs that of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. That places you on a heavenly pedestal. Let Kkat forever be remembered as "Best fanfic author ever". I'm not even gushing, pretty much everyone here will agree with me.

Kkat gets every internet. Freaking monopoly, man.

    187. Kkat has made it clear in a previous post a while back that there will be an Epilogue.

Whether or not the Epilogue is next, or whether there is a Chapter 46, I have no idea, but that was really beautiful.

I really feel like there should be more closure though. There are still a lot of loose ends right now. I guess a final climax could happen in an epilogue? Aaaarrgh, I don't know how to feel...

This is entire fandom was not something that logically should have existed. 15 months ago, the concept of a Fallout/My Little Pony fanfiction being a monumentally epic achievement of narrative storytelling would be far too bizarre to even be a joke. The concept would have been a fever dream on acid. And yet, here we are...

At least in the ability to emotionally connect, something I value above all other aspects of fiction, this is a masterpiece. MLP:FiM transcended everything about cartoons for girls and became some sort of cult classic at least on the scale of Donnie Darko, except probably far beyond that. And then this story with the most unlikeliest of parent sources became greater than the sum of its extremely disparate parts, and then went even further straight up transcended fanfiction to become something overwhelmingly beautiful. It's like something exploding twice ;)

And now I really do hope we get more closure on the ending...

It's been a wonderful, terrible, lovely, horrifying and ultimately satisfying ride. Thanks so very much for sharing it with us!

    189. That mirror scene is still one of the most powerful scenes in the story so far in my opinion, I go back and re-read it often.

"I died" I actually had to stop reading for a moment there, I realized I had been holding my breath and reading that hit me heard.

I think this is the first time heaven and hell have been mentioned. I had assumed the ponies had no concepts of this seeing as how their religion is so different.

Bones, everywhere in the wasteland, even here. This always makes me sad, all these lives gone, nobody to remember them, no sign of even who they were. Just nameless bones.

I had not thought of that, it’s the act of sending a message, even subconsciously, that triggers it. That makes sense, but it doesn’t link well to “Griffon the Brush-Off”, I don’t think Spike would have been trying to send those scrolls as a message.

And, it’s discussed in the next paragraph :)

Nightmare Moon security, that would certainly cause any zebras that managed to get in to second guess their decision.

The image of Celestia spreading her wings across the screens... that is a powerful mental image there!

“You are Littlepip, she of the colorful vulgarities, am I right?” I am laughing so hard right now!

Celestia’s been living with that for over 200 years. Something like that would destroy a persons soul. She Herself created the wasteland.

I knew disconnecting the mainframes from the controls would come back again someday, but not like this, not as a prison.

Homage, in Rockopolis, one of the tragic spots on FO3. I was truly chocked up when I found it in the game, I had almost come to know this ghoul through the radio plays and stories. I walked away from the game at that point, didn’t play again for hours. Now, Homage is there and those feelings have come back up again.

Re: Threesome. OMG Littlepip, do you ever think before you speak? XD

I guess we aren’t going to learn about Rainbow dash. I’m ok with that, like Littlepip thought "It’s good that there are still some mysteries."

And full circle. Why am I crying now?

There’s one part in the story, the end of the prologue, that always causes me to get chocked up no matter how often I read it It did the first time, when I started reading it because I was sick and had nothing better to do thinking it would be a little diversion. And, it has the other eighteen times I’ve read the story from the beginning. They are the words that I associate most with the story, the words that always make me cry.

"my name is LittlePip … Pleased to meet you. Here is my story..."

Thank you Kkat, you have brought back my love of reading that I had thought I had lost long ago.

    190. Don't worry, folks, this is only the end until the Broken Sky expansion pack, which will retcon in Littlepip being rescued from the SPP about two weeks later so she can continue on all-new adventures!

(No, no, I'm just deluding myself, it's obvious that Littlepip originally died in the megaspell at Maripony and the Broken Sky expansion retconned her into being saved so she could take on the Enclave. ;_;)

    191. So, this really was the end, then. I wish I could say something deep, or insightful like some of the other posters, but I'm no good with words. So I'll say this, instead: This is, by far, the best story I have ever read. Not just fanfics, either. I think it was one of the first ones I read, too. I'm not sure if I'm sad that it's over, or happy.
All I know is that I plan to read this again and again, and compare every other story to it (Again, not just the fanfics).
I look forward to any other stories you write, Kkat.

    192. That was the LAST CHAPTER?!

      K, going to cry now.

    193. This came up much faster than I expected... And well, what can I really say? I've been with this story since... Somewhere between chapter 14 and 18... Let's go with that.

I've felt for Littlepip. She's very real to me... So very real I can't describe it. Her joys made me soar, her pain were my lows. You've made me CARE.

I'm waiting with bated breath for the epilogue. The book ending of this newest chapter tied this story together wonderfully, and... The tragedy of Pip's sacrifice got me to tear up... Looks like there won't be a happily ever after with her and Homage...

And Celestia... Dear CELESTIA that poor goddess... Hearing the pain of her people. For that long. That poor sun Goddess...
