ReplyDeleteI'm going to stick as closely to how Minecraft works as possible while keeping their abilities, like how Twilight can levitate things or how she and Rarity used their horns for light.
Lets see pistons, red stone, gateways and more. I can see Twilight building some complicated anti monster system, whereas Pinkie will make a simplistic catcus barrier. This leaves so much up to the imagination.

Intriguing story with so many opportunities. Seems pretty fast-paced, though. Could use a bit more description. None-the-less, I'm curious as to how they meet the Creeper (although that might lead to the potential "respawning" subject pretty fast).

I'll answer the herobrine thing.
ReplyDeleteHave Herobrine build a huge fort and than have HB starts trying to get the ponies into obsidian cages through cleverly made traps.
The ponies learn from him how to make more stuff and better defend themselves. Herobrine gets more and more ingenious everyday without actively trying to kill them. (IE gets more disturbingly crafty each day, then gets ridiculously stupid on one particular day only and becomes horribly violent only for that day in question, thus creating a cycle of Dumb aggressive-> Smart building -> Dumb aggressive again)
Also Herobrine should start like a normal minecraftian with nothing but it's two fist.
And just when I get my copy of Minecraft working again, this pops up! It's absolutely hilarious is a little low on the detailed side.

ReplyDeleteI can see why it appears overused, but how else is one to get the mane cast to another universe in a believable fashion?
The only other options I can think of include Pinkie Pie creating a wormhole, the Princesses getting pissed and sending them to a random part of the universe, and it all being a bad dream that lasts longer than expected. And those ideas are much harder to pull off.
All of a sudden, I have this enormous craving for a Dwarf Fortress crossover. It both horrifies and amuses me to think about it.

Am I the only one to cringe when I realize Twilight managed to get coal WITHOUT A PICKAXE?!? (In game, you don't get coal from a block of coal ore unless you use a pickaxe, even just a wood one)

ReplyDeleteI had actually daydreamed before about what would happen if the mane six were in the world of Minecraft. Of course, I had imagined they entered it due to... (skip long winded fantasy if you have low attention span)
...the elements not working in the second episode and as they were being chased they ran through an obsidian archway as one of Nightmare Moon's spells barely missed and 'activated' the archway, sending all ponies involved into the Minecraft realm.
(resume if low attention span)...but that's just me, and I can't wait to see where this story goes with its plot. I wonder if they meet up with anyone else living in the Minecraft world?

Just one little issue I have: when Rarity was complaining about digging, she said "I could never dirty my hands with this… this… dirt!" She said hands, not hooves. Aside from that, though, this story looks like it could turn out very interestingly.

ReplyDeleteThere is a new mod comming out called the aeither ( I think I spelled that right ) it is the opposit of the nether. It is all floating sky islands, magical minerals, new creatures, special dungeons and mineable clouds. Are you going to use this? If you do and want more info on it (the mod isn't ready yet) check out Pbat's videos on youtube. But don't bug him about it or he will block you.

ReplyDeleteI don't know about anypony else, but the fact that twilight was able to mine coal without a pickaxe and make sticks with only one block of planks is extremely bothersome to me, especially since the laws of Minecraft were established to be (reasonably) strictly followed. I probably shouldn't be making such a big deal about it, but something in me is just screaming, "THE RULES AREN'T BEING FOLLOWED!!! GRAAAAAAHHH!!!"

For me, I'd have chosen a strange low resolution portal made of a glowing material appears and the mane 6 go in to explore it, only to have a creeper blow it to pieces so they can't get back. Every time I see a "twilights teleport failed and now they're stuck in x world" I die a little inside.

ReplyDeleteOkay, I've thought of possible explanations/remedies for inconsistencies with the minecraft physics, as well as anything else that could cause confusion:
Problem: Twilight mining coal without a pickaxe
Solution: She used her horn, which may be a valid substitute for a wooden pickaxe.
P: Breaking only 1 block of planks into 4 sticks
S: I'm just going to assume I'm Only Kidding meant 2.
P: Killing a spider by dropping gravel on it (this does not directly deal damage in minecraft; it can suffocate mobs, yes, but it in most situations a spider cannot be killed this way)
S: Residual magic killed it.
P: Obtaining wool without shears
S: It's pre-update. Shut up.
P: The flames of Twilight's rage not burning down the house while making windows
S: I guess it works like a furnace. Planks, unlike sand, cannot be smelted, and therefore are unaffected.
P: Twilight was still able to use the flames of her rage to make windows after having cooled off. How'd that work?
S: Who said she cooled off?
[Twilight]"...WINDOWS!?!? DON'T TRY TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT ON ME!!!"
[Rarity]"Ugh... she's not listening. Fluttershy, would you be a dear and move her over there for a moment?"
P: Where'd they get the coal for more torches?
S: They obtained charcoal by heating logs using the flames of Twilight's rage (or they just went back to the cave and got more, but that's boring).
P: Rarity making things that require a 3x3 crafting grid (beds, paintings, chests)
S: It's conceivable that crafting tables were made as well, even though they weren't mentioned.
P: Applejack insta-killing the zombie
S: The zombie had just managed to crawl out of lava and into some water, leaving him with one heart.

ReplyDeleteLighting (in most) cases won't cause fires in-game. The rainstorms required for in-game lighting negate flammability in almost all instances; lightning causing fires is almost a glitch or just really bad luck. However, it still damages players, turns creepers into "super-creepers", and turns pigs into "Zombie Pigmen" despite not being in the "Nether".

Maybe they should meet steve(the minecraft player) or find some tome detailing how minecraft works, just so its easier to get them into the more advanced aspects of the world.
Oh and please don't add honeydew and xephos. They'd really mess this story up.

ReplyDeleteProblem: On the first night, the zombie that grabbed Fluttershy didn't manage to damage her before getting re-killed by Applejack, whereas in Minecraft getting touched by a zombie causes immediate damage.
Solution 1: Zombies are only used to humans and dogs (and sometimes skeletons); this one may have paused for a moment to try and figure out the most lethal way to bite a pony.
S2: It didn't want to hurt her! It just wanted to hug the cute pony!
P: Where'd the dyes for the rainbow carpet come from?
S:
Red, orange, and yellow: Flowers, obviously.
Green: With sand nearby, it's possible there were also cacti, heated via the flames of Twilight's rage.
Lapis lazuli, however, is too far underground to be obtainable, so I'm guessing Rarity settled with a red-to-green "rainbow". closeenough.jpg
P: So what about the pink rug in Pinkie Pie's room?
S1: A band of skeletons fell off a cliff and re-died. Later, while the ponies were out at night, looking for shelter, some of them took notice of a mysterious pile of bones at the bottom of said cliff. These bones were later used in the production of pink dye.
S2: Rarity got REALLY lucky when it came to finding pink sheep (yes, pink sheep occur naturally; I don't get it either).
P: Fluttershy would never have approved of hitting sheep for wool!
S: SSHHH!!! Don't tell her what we've been up to!
P: Paintings are pony-themed instead of the minecraftian selection.
S: A texture pack is honestly all I can think of for this one.
P: Where did the sugarcane for the paper for the books for the bookshelves for Twilight's room come from?
S1: By the same logic as before, there could have been a pond and some sugarcane nearby.
S2: AJ, RD, and PP may have brought back some resources (sugarcane included) besides wood.
P: Creepers don't drop gunpowder when they explode (you have to kill it yourself), yet it appears the one that killed Applejack did.
S1: Uh... remember when that band of skeletons fell off that cliff? Yeah, there was a creeper in there, too. The drop was Applejack's, not the creeper's.
S2: The KIND of powder that was dropped went unspecified. Applejack might have happened to have some sugar on her at the time.
P: Ditzy tried to hug a creeper because, OUT OF NOWHERE, it was struck by lightning. It can't have been raining because Ditzy was able to watch the sun set, and if it happened to start raining between Ditzy watching the sun and the creeper getting struck, then it should still have been raining in the morning.
S: Supposedly, rain stops when you use a bed (I don't remember ever experiencing this, though, so I'm a little unsure).
P: The creeper that killed Applejack began making a hissing noise an awfully long time before it finally exploded. All that dialouge could not have fit into the few seconds it takes for a creeper to explode.
S: It probably made a breif hiss, like it had just gotten hurt, from falling off of something. In truth, it likely still had quite a ways to go before reaching Applejack. Yes, the reader would have to picture the room accordingly.
P: Upon waking from a bed, the daylight level should be at its maximum, but when our ponies awoke there were still some light levels to go.
I do have an explanation for this one, but it's kind of complicated. Perhaps I'll explain later.
Now for proper comments! I find it a little disappointing to find that you're including respawning. Kinda takes away from that feeling of danger. Also, If I was stuck on the roof, I personally would have just punched a hole through it, dropped in, and put the block back. :P

Solution:
All right, time to get off my lazy keister and explain this one. First, though, some facts (the first one, I'll admit, was copy/pasted from the Minecraft Wiki):
- If a hostile mob can get within 2 blocks of the bed, even if the blocks are separated by a wall, you will be awakened with either a skeleton or a zombie standing next to you. There appears to be a slight delay before the mob attacks you, giving you time to get the first blow.
- ^ The time will not set to morning when this happens, by the way.
- Daytime goes for 10 minutes, and the night will last for 7 minutes.
Okay, here's what I think happened:
The events of that night took much of the seven minutes mentioned. Ditzy & Applejack's (brief) deaths took place shortly after sunset, and the repairing of the wall and getting settled into bed probably wouldn't have taken long either. DD and AJ's return to the mansion, however, could have taken any number of minutes, perhaps so that the sun happened to begin to rise just as our ponies were getting to sleep.
It was then that a certain glitch mentioned in the first bullet happened to one of our ponies sleeping on the bottom floor; specifically that sleeping in a bed against a wall where the other side was outside caused a zombie to appear in said pony's room. I theorize that it was Applejack's room, since she's one of the few ponies whom I can picture waking up to seeing a zombie in her room and, in her grogginess, quickly dispatching it with thoughts along the lines of "Git outta my room! I'm tryin' to sleep!" She then noticed, however, that the sun was already rising, so without bothering to go back to bed, she just watched the sunrise, and later dismissed the bizarre event as a dream.* The other ponies awoke naturally to the sunlight beginning to shine into their windows.
P: So now you're assuming that this fanfic follows the same day/night cycle as the game? Would the ponies really be able to build an entire mansion in 10 minutes?!
S: I think so. Remember that Rainbow Dash can fly between the two teams pretty fast, and Applejack, with all her applebucking experience and strength, might even be able to break wood blocks faster than one normally could without an axe. It might be a bit of a stretch, but I think everything that occurred on the builders' end could have happened in ten minutes as well.

S: I'm afraid I'm going to have to make up a rule here. Since there's normally no "tiredness" in Minecraft, the effect that beds have on how much sleep one gets is actually pretty ambiguous. It's possible that upon sleeping in a bed, the sleeper automatically becomes fully rested. Why is there "tiredness" now, you ask? I figure it's one of those things the ponies carried over from their world, like Twilight's magic was.
P: So you're saying that a mere construction of wood and wool supernaturally compresses 8 or 9 hours of sleep into the blink of an eye?
S: Using that "mere" construction in the Nether makes it explode, I'll have you know.
*This comes from personal experience, somewhat. Early in the morning, shortly after I wake up, I'd think something happened, but after thinking about it, it occurs to me that it must have been a dream. Just saying that AJ's dismissal is justified.
Ooh... I think I forgot to mention something important, for those who might not know already. In multiplayer, ALL players must be in bed for the skip to morning to occur. What I meant to get across was that Applejack NOT being in bed was what prevented the skip, allowing everypony to wake up to the sunrise on their own.

ReplyDeleteI don't even play Minecraft and I'm enjoying this story! The game just never appealed to me, I guess.
The only problem I have is that I'm having a hard time picturing the ponies all block-like. Even looking at the picture at the top and trying to visualize that but smaller isn't helping matters. So, I just picture them how they usually are.
