Story: Storm

[Normal][Sad] One of the pre-readers said that this story had inspired them to write something. That's about the best recommendation you can give.

Author: Kits
Description: A storm of epic proportions sweeps over Equestria,
leaving the ponies of Ponyville to try to piece their lives back
together.

Very interesting premise.
Good show so far.

Uniquely structured. I enjoyed it - good to see the ponies take action.

It was good, but i feel that more OCCs could have been developed better. Still good, though.

The multiple viewpoints were handled really well! This was an extremely solid story, and I hope to see more from you soon!

All I want to know is the source of that picture.

I hear by recommend that this fic be given 5 stars at least and become a candidate for the second recipient of the 6 star ranking given to "Luna vs. the Microwave."

It's a great read, but how was there an unstoppable storm in a land where even the seasons are controlled by ponies?

NinesTempest said...

Probably everfree forest being a douche

@Anonymous

Well well, that would be an interesting tale in itself.

How did an unstoppable storm happen?

Someone must be mucking about in the Forest.

Anonymous said...

I would guess that the weather OUTSIDE the nation of Equestria set it up, with possible contribution by Everfree Forest.

Was probably Derpy.

Hey, you used the image that I edited. Heh, that's kinda neat.

*reads fic, reads the beginning of his own story where Ponyville gets ravaged by a fire*

Well damn, there goes my awesomeness. I guess it's settled then; tornadoes and rain is more dramatic than blazing infernos.

Bigponymac said...

Well, I have a feeling this is going to hit home since I and the rest of Alabama went through all those tornadoes in April.

Yuri said...

That is a storm straight from hell! srs buisness!

Kits said...

@Bigponymac

Yeah, that's when I penned the rough draft. I had the original idea while hiding in the bathroom. (It's the only room without windows). Stuff got written that weekend when we had to evac to TN as all of our utilities had gone out (power I can live w/o. Water is another matter). Editing took longer. At lot longer.

>Thanks to Cupcakes Nom for his help on that.

I'll tell you what: I've never wished more fervently for a cartoon character to be real than during that storm.

>Also, likes the image.

/Now will be twice as paralyzed to publish next story.
//Shadows of own success and all ^^;

As to how the storm got started: I have no idea. If somepony figures it out be sure to ping me!

Loved it. The most striking part for me was the Snap Shot dioramas, the moving back and forth through the timeline was excellently handled too. Thank you!

Kits said...

@Faram

I think that's my favorite part too =D

I'm glad I went with present-immediate tense for it. I certainly thought it had more impact that way.

It was actually the very last section I wrote!
>was worried about having too much OC

Very nice work Kits! I appreciated a lot the flashes as narrative device, and the whole part before that point was very good to keep the tension up. Gratz, and 5 stars. :)

DavidReinold said...

I haven't cried this much since Kamina's goodbye in ep. 26 of Gurren Lagann.

Kits said...

@Tosxychor Thanks! I still think it's my favorite part

@DavidReinold I still haven't figured out how to respond to this type of comment yet. On one hand, I was going for sad. On the other I hate making people cry D=.

Personally, the saddest story on the site is Somewhere Only We Know.

Damn, this was well written. Really gives you an appreciation for the people willing to tough it out up north and get blasted by cyclones every year.

It's a good thing for the ponies that they don't have to worry about global warming making things worse. Too bad that's not the case for us.

Kits said...

@Roxor

Thanks for the complement!

Just had to make a comment; this was one of my first fanfics that I have read when it came out, and its still one of my favorites. A sadfic done right: Yes the events are very heartbreaking, but the over message is one of hope, and that through the powe--magic of friendship they can rebuild their town. I love how it kept alternating between the aftermath and the actual storm.

Kits said...

@Soapy5

WOW! I had forgotten I had this on my watch list!

I'm glad you liked it, so far you're the first pony whose comment shows that you got the real story.

I've been told recently that I ended it without resolution, since the town hadn't been rebuilt. Your comment shows that I didn't totally fail in conveying the real point across. Thanks!

At first: great story!

I've read this story after a combination of "The Last Element" and Americas "The Last Unicorn" and I had to stop at about the half and turn on some happy music. Otherwise, I would had forgotten to continue breathing.

The first dark and dramatic part really hit me (especially the "flashing" part) but the more relieving was the end.

(I truly hope I could express how this story touched me, but english isn't my native language, so...)

@Master Smoulder

Thanks!

It's nice to know that ponies are still reading my old fic.

Wow, the characterization was spot-on; I can totally see the mane 6 acting this way in the face of a deadly storm.
