    1. I was waiting for this to show up here. I read this when I found it this morning. Looks to this anon like he is in his "Fluttershy is my waifu" phase :P

    2. I like how half the comments are little more than "oh my god why are you posting ponies you need to grow up and get a fucking life".

Those people need to grow up.

    3. it's nice to see ponies expand here and there and well the author is pretty honest

    4. Before I follow the link, if you know, please tell me who drew that Derpy! It's great!

    5. Read the article: happy to see the show getting more attention. ~yay.mp3

Read the comments: remembered I was still on the internet. howcouldyou.mp3

    6. The people in the comment section need to embrace friendship.

    7. And soon CNN and Fox News will be covering this, but they'll be late.

    8. The article was......nice.

It hit a number of salient points, but it tended to gloss too quickly over the sheer draw of the characters. By this point, while the animation, music, voice acting, and humor is certainly top-shelf, it is those six main ponies (and Spike! and the CMCs, too) that draw me back, unable to resist, week after week. Great character-driven media is unquestionably my joy in this life.

Also, I feel as though I should *know* which artist drew that Derpy picture. I must learn, at any rate.

    9. There was definite flamewars in the comments, but then again that's what /co/ was like at first as well...

Not expecting it to take over the site but watch how there is still an influx of new people to welcome to the herd.

    10. A nice read. His "I can't believe I'm writing about cutie marks," bit made me chuckle.

Also, that image of Derpy was drawn by the ever fabulous Carly Hwang.

It says a lot about you if you're an adult and enjoy this show. See, like was mentioned in this review, shows like Spongebob appeal to adults, but in sort of a needy, "LISTEN GUYS I'M A KIDS' SHOW BUT I'M STILL COOL! LOOK AT THIS REFERENCE TO AN OLD MOVIE!" sort of way. They're not bad, but they come off like they're insecure and need to constantly prove themselves.

My Little Pony, meanwhile, doesn't give a damn what you think of it. Faust has made a show that is honestly, unapologetically happy and cute and doesn't care if you think it's cool. Because it isn't cool, and it's fine with that. It's just here to have a good time.

So to enjoy this show, you need to ask yourself: how worried am I about how I look to other people? Am I concerned enough with putting up a big "HEY GUYS I'M A GROWNUP" performance that my insecurities won't even let me enjoy a damn TV show?

The ponies aren't here to prop up your cool rating and they aren't here to help boost your "I like a cartoon, ain't I quirky" cred. They're not capable of that. They're just capable of making you laugh, and making you feel oddly happy after an episode.

The question is, can you get over yourself long enough to let them?"

      Amen, ThatHandsomeDevil

That comment definitely explains the show's approach and is pretty good explanation as to WHY I can only somewhat-stand spongebob.

I also thought back on this after reading it. On the show that is. It ocurred to me that I haven't actually laughed out loud so much at a TV show since Ed Edd and Eddy, back when I first saw it when I was a kid. That speaks so much to how funny this show is, I think.

Confirmed for being mentally challenged or having never seen the show. Or, you know, having different tastes...

Oh god... Fox NEWS! They'll be like: "Ponies on steriods" and "internet love machine" and "brony: a corruption of the word 'pony'". Then they're somehow try to turn it into some evil Democratic organization that is trying to brainwash children... because it's fox news.

Not that I'm a big fan of Fox (I prefer BBC for all news), but keep the hate off. Politics has no place in Equestria. We all know Celestia is the undisputed leader

    24. "Anyone who watches this show and isn't either younger than 10 years old, or a parent with kids younger than 10 years old, is literally a waste of humanity."

Thank God I don't know him in real life, or it'd take everything I have not to slap him in the face.

      ReplyDelete
    25. I got my email and docs back but I'm still mad as... wherever bad ponies go when they die. Seriously though. I only use this account for ponies and someone hacked it. Bad brony out there.

    29. I have a feeling 95% of the negative comments are trolls. I mean jeez, one of their names is "Professor Cuntburglar". You don't get more troll than that!

      ReplyDelete
    30. Nevermind, that was kind of dumb...

      ReplyDelete
    31. I can't wait until a year from now when posts like this one are all over the Internet, and I get to be one of the hipster douchebags prancing around shouting about how "I liked this show in season 1/before it was cool!"

Then again, this show was always cool. So that might not work out.

      ReplyDelete
    32. *all sad* I love all the attention the bronies are getting, but my boobs are never going to let me be one. Does anyone want to name the female fandom?

      ReplyDelete
    33. @Sarah

Wow... that guy's projecting so hard he could show PowerPoint presentations through the empty hole in his chest where his heart should be.

      ReplyDelete
    34. Yeah CNN would be late if they covered this but I would still be happy to see it. I won't accept anything less than Complete. Global. Saturation...
      of Ponies.
Also @Nathan, your comment made me laugh for a good two minutes.

the girls of the fandom are called fillies. there are many others out there. and there are a lot of girls 18-20 something watching this show too. I have a friend who've put up walls against this show saying that it was "okay" but never watching it again.

      ReplyDelete
    36. @Kabuki Housewife *sighs* Bronies is 20% cooler though. I'm trotting out MILP for us G1 fangirls that Finally have a decent pony to share with our kids. Retarded? Inspired? Retarded.

    37. Mother I'd Like to Pony? Lol what?

    38. @Anonymous
They are. They're so brave too. Just think, there was the few guys at first that had the guts to actually see what the show was like. Now look at all of them. It's not as cool for a college age girl to start watching the show because they can use the "nostalgia" excuse... and the fact that they're female.

      ReplyDelete
    39. Please don't role play in the article's comments section, you look embarrassing and immature proving the point of negative commenters who should be ignored because their opinion doesn't really matter.
Please guys I know you like the show but you are starting to lose common sense lately.

      role playing? who's role playing.
oh! me and changing my blogger username and picture? I'm both kabuki housewife and karnella on the web. It's not a character or anything like that. I didn't mean to make it look like role playing.
I changed my name so people would recognize me since I use karnella on my deviant art account.
I'm sorry. Will you forgive me?

      ReplyDelete
    41. ^ karnella i think anon means the roleplayers on avclub... and "you look embarrasing and immature"??? as compared to who?? the trolls? please! this 'fluttershy' character's calm, cool disposition is driving the trolls completely insane! their feeble attempts to insult him/her are proving futile and helpless. it's completely hilarious and i hope he/she keeps it up.

that's one way mlp has gained many converts. bronies don't flame when they get trolled, they just love and tolerate the shit outta them
