Budding Friendships is a currently-in-progress Harvest Moon style game involving ponies. Assuming the role of a famer pony (I think that's actually the character pictured above), you take over a rundown ranch at the edge of the Everfree Forest, and through a lot of hard work and by forming lasting bonds of friendship with the ponies of Ponyville, turn it into something you can be proud of.
So far, the team of ponies in charge of this project have put together most of the underlying framework and core mechanics. Movement's possible, and time passes, as marked by a nifty little night-and-day wheel. You can see some screenshots after the break. They were even ambitious enough to set a tentative release date for a fully finished and super playable version, but I know enough about development cycles that I'm not going to shackle them to that. I wonder if there's a group somewhere trying to make FO:E into a real game, after reading some of the FO:E stories, there are places I really want to visit. Also, this game looks like it's coming along pretty well, keep up the good work.

Okay, Ive really had enough pony farming. As a farmer (cue WTF, farmer brony? comments), It is simply appaling to see farms cartoonized in such ridiculous ways. Perhaps i'm being too hard on this issue. Cue flame war.

ReplyDeleteHad there really been that many pony farming? I mean, I'm not up to date with all the fan creations, but surely there couldn't be that many.
I understand that seeing your job bastardized is appalling, but this game is based on Harvest Moon and that game really isn't that accurate on farming subjects. As such, they have no choice but to be as unrealistic as Harvest Moon.

Harvest Moon and Rune Factory... both were fun and hopefully this will be fun too. "Harvest Luna" os the title maybe?

ReplyDeleteHi everyone, Khosan here (AKA Designer guy/the brain that spawned a team of people putting work into it). Thought I'd answer some of the questions I've seen pop up in here:
ReplyDelete1) Yes, there will be an actual clock in the inventory screen. The basic in-game UI is mostly just an 'at a glance' thing, not many specifics, but you can tell what it means by looking at it.
2) Ponyships are something we've talked about and, while we can understand that a lot of people would be interested in them, we're not going to go that route. What we're doing instead is, yes, what that other Anon said: a friendship system. You start out as an acquaintance and eventually become friends with the mane 6 like they're friends with each other.
I know for some of you, that might be a buzzkill, but I hope you'll still be willing to give it a shot when we finish.
3) Pony-farming: Well, sorry? I guess? The goal's not really to create a hardcore realistic farm sim.
P.S. I'm glad to hear people like the Day/Night wheel. I've still got a little work to do on it (I need to tweak the size and position of the sun and moon so they don't clip with the edge) and I'll be making a couple more that change based on the weather.
I can still tell that whatever you decide to do with this game, however you decide to develop it, it will be awesome. I'd love to give this game a try when it finally gets released.

You know, I hate to say it, but with the tight brony community and all of these game projects, it feels like all of the ponies out there developing games should come together to work on a single project as opposed to having so many projects that need more people. It just seems like a talent exchange could be beneficial here.
