• Shoutfactory Update on Disc Replacement

It looks like all you need for a new disc is your receipt if your current disc is having audio issues on the first two episodes.  It also sounds like Derpy is still intact in their updated versions.

Simply send an email to info@shoutfactory.com w/a copy of your receipt & your address.  Easy enough right?

Hopefully they will keep old Derpy for the next few waves for all of you late people out there too!

And now a wave of incoming emails to Shout Factory...

    4. just got done watching mine. unfortunately the new voice has grown on me and i don't really enjoy the old voice as much =\. still, its nice to have both versions of the episode, that's pretty cool in my book.

    5. That's good news :) I better go buy this DVD asap

      ReplyDelete
    6. So, does that mean if we verify our receipts, we'll end up with TWO discs, one with the error and one with the correction?

      ReplyDelete
    7. Bravo, now everyone can stop whining. If they made the change, you don't have to surrender your original disc.

      ReplyDelete
    8. So it looks like you guys don't need to send your copies. That's nice of Shout!

      ReplyDelete
    9. iStricer, eh? I could swear I know that guy from somewhere....

    10. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Always happy to help ;)

    11. Good to hear them say it directly :)

    12. Gonna check if my dvd for synch issues today, nice of them to do this.

      ReplyDelete
    13. @Foal Papers Yeah I'm pretty sure I know him too.

Let's hope Derpy is indeed intact. I still have yet to receive my copy, so I don't know what's on it yet.

      ReplyDelete
    14. That's what I thought, but it's good to have confirmation; thanks!

      ReplyDelete
    15. I just get the episodes for free off the internet. Why pay money?

      ReplyDelete
    16. My DVD has the glitched audio.

However, I ordered from amazon and they sent me no receipt or invoice. What do?

      ReplyDelete
    17. @Exotahu

You may be able to contact Amazon customer service. Im sure they still have you on record.

I still like brick and morter stores a lot better. Now if youll excuse me, theres some kids on my lawn i need to yell at.

    18. "Was there ever any doubt?" - Trixie

This being some sort of nefarious plot to get rid of the old disks never sounded all that likely to me.

      ReplyDelete
    19. @Exotahu You should have an invoice that was emailed to you, as well as viewable from the Amazon site under your account info.

By the way, nice Bionicle username!

    20. @Exotahu

I did the same myself, I sent them a screencap of my Amazon order page and a picture of the barcode on the DVD, just in case.

      Hopefully they'll accept that.

    21. SHOOT. Just checked my copy and it has the flaw, but the trash went out this morning with my receipt in it. Didn't watch the episode all the way through until just now...

      ReplyDelete
    22. You know what that feeling is? You know, when you were right all along?

      Vindication.

      ReplyDelete
    23. Oy, Seth, the email to shoutfactory that you posted isn't working. I think you forgot an "I", because I tried info@shoutfactory.com without any problems.

      ReplyDelete
    24. @O.K.H

And Derp, I just read the twitter post.

      IGNORE MEEEEE.

      ReplyDelete
    25. Screw it. I'll get a new copy, if that one's messed up I'll copy that receipt. At least I'm supporting the show some more in the process.

      ReplyDelete
    26. @FreezingShock

I doubt anyone had an evil conspiracy, but the reason i dont often trust corporations os because of the apparent lack of communication between the execs and the people. If they suddenly got a random order from Hasbro to change them, what are they supposed to do?

Corporate orders are a lot like one guy pushing a giant boulder off a hill top. No one wants to stop it for fear of being crushed, and its always the people at the bottom who are hit hardest.

      ReplyDelete
    27. @_OJ_

That's easy, it's to support the show and increase the chances of future full-season box sets (Maybe even in Blu-Ray!). It's only ten bucks, which is hardly expensive, plus it has the original Derpy scene and the pun-tastic extended theme song. I think the more appropriate question is, "Why NOT pay money for this?"

      ReplyDelete
    28. For those who ordered the DVD from Amazon and need an invoice, just log in your Amazon account, view your order, and there should be a link to view your invoice.

Out of curiosity, would a copy of the packing slip work as well, or does it have to be the invoice?

      ReplyDelete
    29. @Avohkah Tamer

Because you can get it for free?

Basically you're paying ten bucks for the original of a scene that you can still find on the internet and an extended theme song that you can find on the internet.

      ReplyDelete
    30. Gonna cost $18 for me (international shipping), but worth it!

      ReplyDelete
    31. @_OJ_ If everyone thought like you do, there would be no more pony. Think about it.

      ReplyDelete
    32. @Naner

      There wouldn't?

      What's your logic?

      ReplyDelete
    33. @_OJ_
If you want it legally, and you want to support the show, you've gotta pay for it somewhere. Maybe iTunes, maybe a DVD with a few episodes, or maybe your cable package with the Hub channel. The free online streams and downloads are unofficial, technically illegal, and don't provide any profit for The Hub/Hasbro whatsoever.

Not that I'm saying those streams and downloads are necessarily a bad thing (Celestia knows how much I use them =P), but they just don't support the show as directly as official purchases do.

      ReplyDelete
    34. @Avohkah Tamer

How about I watch all the shit I want on Youtube and everybody else throws money at them.

That seems like a good idea.

      ReplyDelete
    35. @_OJ_
Just like movies, video games and other TV shows, producing things cost money. And Hasbro expects money in return for the money they spend. If they receive less money than expected in return (or even worse, less than what they spent), it wouldn't be long before they cut the whole thing off.

I watch the episodes for free online always, but I'll give my couple of bucks to the show now that I have a chance to do so. And I'll certainly give a bit more if they release more DVDs and hopefully Blu-rays (I won't buy Celebration at Canterlot because $25 really is too much for just two episodes).

      ReplyDelete
    36. @_OJ_

It's all about supporting the show. If everyone takes, but nobody gives, eventually the reason behind giving wears off. It's alright if you don't feel like supporting the show, just don't go around saying there's no reason to; there is, for those which believe kindness goes both ways.

So.. you don't have to sent back the DVD, hmm... I dunno... having two copies would be nice, but I'm worried there's shipping to pay. Last time I checked, Shout! charges $25 or so to ship to Canada for some reason.

      ReplyDelete
    37. @Naner

So if the entire Brony community's money was removed from the equation, Hasbro wouldn't be able to afford production of the show based on the income from the parents of their target demographic of young girls?

Seems like a silly financial choice Hasbro made when they greenlit the show, then. Good thing we're here to safe the fuckin' day.

      Your logic is totally irrefutable.

      ReplyDelete
    38. @Sothalic

      Capitalism = Kindness

I missed that episode. Which one was it?

      ReplyDelete
    39. I would pay them all my money, but i'm from Russia and it's not available here. But i want all episodes on blu-ray with tons of extras.

      ReplyDelete
    40. I'm more than willing to support the show, so I bought the DVD.

But at the same time, when one pays for a product, one should expect for it to be in a good, working condition.

Though somewhat of a minor issue, ShoutFactory are doing a great gesture for us here by offering this replacement program.

Derpy being intact was a concern to me, but I was also concerned about the quality of the product, which is why I asked ShoutFactory directly on Twitter instead of guessing. Their response has been to my satisfaction and I applaud them for not making the Derpy edits on the replacement discs.

      ReplyDelete
    41. Hmm, which Amazon order should I use as proof? The automated response when I ordered only has the order's ID as direct proof, no... I dunno, concrete evidence I bought it. Heck, it uses the old 'Ponyville Chronicles' tag.

And again, I'm really worried about being slapped by a shipping + border crossing fee that will probably be higher than my initial purchase.... maybe I shouldn't bother.

      ReplyDelete
    42. I think that Hasbro cares enough about the Brony community that they will, one way or another, let us have access to the unedited version of the episode or just not touch the original Derpy scenes on Youtube.

If anything, if they get complaints about Derpy on the DVD, I wouldn't mind an Official Unofficial torrent version of it, although if it's the file that's burned onto the dvd, it'd be a rather large file.

An indie dev did something similar with their game "No Time To Explain".

      ReplyDelete
    43. I still love you Hasbro and Shout! No hard feelings...

      ReplyDelete
    44. All the Brony community is good for in Hasbro's eyes is free publicity and dollar signs.

      ReplyDelete
    45. Um, I think you mean "is send your receipt"? Also, don't you mean "info@shoutfactory.com"?

      Good info, though.

      ReplyDelete
    46. I'm undecided, I watched teh DVD today and the audio de-sync, while irritating, is hardly a deal breaker, especially since I don't often look at the show and jsut listen while doing other things, plus I live in canada so I'd have to pay a lot for international shipping.

Would a well-synched DVD with Derpy be worth more than the original with the somewhat dy-synched audio?

I'm only asking because this is the first time I've gotten into somethign while it's in full swing (as opposed to years after the glory days)and own something that could be considered a collectors item in the future. But then again I'm trying not to be frivilous with my spending so I think I'll just keep what I have for the moment and maybe when we get another shipment in my town I'll buy a second one to see what it's like, or not because I already own a disc and finally got a chance to support the show, no thanks to Apple.

      ReplyDelete
    47. Well, thats a relief. Thanks for the update?

      ReplyDelete
    48. *Thanks for the update! (Don't know where that question mark came from.)

      ReplyDelete
    49. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but would a picture of my receipt take with my camera count as a legit copy or would I need to find a place to scan it? Or would I need to send the receipt itself?

      ReplyDelete
    50. I know thy person *cough*

      I see...

      ReplyDelete
    51. @Beta-Carotene I don't trust corporations at all, but I fail to see what retroactively changing all the DVDs they already made would gain Hasbro.

      ReplyDelete
    52. shout factory keen to reassure us of intact derpiness in the fixed version. *someone* knows who it is that actually wants to buy the bloody dvds don't they? :-)

      ReplyDelete
    53. Let's hope they're telling the truth.
Altering Derpy is one thing, lying to us about it is THE!
      WORST!
      POSSIBLE!
      THING!

      ReplyDelete
    54. With my luck, I'll get the bugged version... and I live in Italy. ETA is april 4th... lol.

      ReplyDelete
    55. I wonder if they actually put in Rainbow Dash's character synopsis this time.

      ReplyDelete
    56. This isn't the first time Shout! has had sync issues. Earlier this year they had to re-issue part of the Transformers Headmasters DVD because the subtitles went out of context from several scenes. They ran the same ordeal where they would send you a replacement disc.

On a another note, I sent an e-mail, has anyone received a response from Shout! yet?

      ReplyDelete
    57. @King Sphinx
I would believe so. I've had to that before with another company. As long as it is legible, it should be okay..

      ReplyDelete
    58. @Snow Flurry i sent them an email around 6pm, it's now 8:21pm...no reply. im sure it'll take a while for them to reply because they more than likely got flooded with the emails about the DVD...i'd still like to know that they recieved it though :/

      ReplyDelete
    59. Sent my email. Super cool of them to do this!

      ReplyDelete
    60. Derpy's new voice is better anyway.

      ReplyDelete
    61. Hmm, do I send for the replacement? Or do I just tell them to keep it in the hopes of costing them less money so maybe they'll be more inclined to make a box set...

      Decisions, decisions...

Though I know it is only $10 plus shipping, every little bit helps.

      ReplyDelete
    62. Good thing I still have MY reciept. I'll just scan it, attach the file, and in a few business days, I'll get a new Disc (or at the behest, an envelope to send the disc in a disc sleeve into). In heart, we're not monkeys, but Equestrians - Hard-working, Patriotic Equestrians. Shout Factory did us a solid with Captain N: The Game Master (and how they fixed an episode).

      ReplyDelete
    63. Shout Factory does sometimes have errors on their DVDs but from what I can see they are always very good about issuing replacements. There were some Transformers Japanese collection problems which people have reported as being successfully replaced. With their release of Captain N: The Complete series, they issued a replacement for one of the Donkey Kong episodes that had about six minutes missing.

An employee/representative, Brian Ward, often enters discussions on their site personally, answering questions and sometimes putting out calls for special content fans may have (convention footage, etc), which are considered for inclusion as bonus content on DVD releases.

For these reasons, I tend to trust them more than I usually would trust a company. They are willing to talk to and listen to the fans, although I believe Hasbro has the final say.

It has also been made clear in the past that if a DVD title does not sell well enough, subsequent volumes will not be created or sold. Some of Shout's less popular items have been sub-licensed out to Mill Creek, or have not had their releases completed.

It's good to keep these facts in mind if we all want a season set to be released. Don't be a leech, sucking only off the internet for free content when you have an opportunity to show some monetary support to the show and its creators.

At any rate, I have sent an email to Shout and will report back here with any items of note when they reply.

      ReplyDelete
    64. @_OJ_
Scratch the former and you get the truth that everyone knows, $$$ tames this lion.

So far, they've been doing a kind of shitty job at earning that money (Hasbro, primarily), yet there are a lot of people as gullible as a 4 year old kid, the so called "children of capitalism".

Makes you wonder about what will happen to them when they start living in the real world, if they ever do.

      ReplyDelete
    65. @mechaluigi7 I thought Rainbow's absence was really weird, too.

      ReplyDelete
    66. I was mostly concerned with Derpy's scene (which I checked first and was pleased to see was fine) and then started to watch it through and found the audio problem. Do they ask you to send your old disk back to get the fixed audio one? I still want my original...

      ReplyDelete
    67. Er, how do I send them an email with the receipt through a laptop?

      ReplyDelete
    68. and they just assume every one has a scanner and can make a copy of receipts i wounder if i can mail mine in

      ReplyDelete
