• Story: The Promises We Keep

    [Normal] [Sad] [Light Shipping]

    Author: Pascoite
Description: Big Macintosh has fallen hard for the pretty mailmare. When she is forced into a fight for her life, he sticks by her faithfully, but can he keep the promises he's made? The plot is in honor of my mother-in-law, who wasn't so lucky, and I suspect wouldn't actually appreciate inspiring a story about ponies.

    2. I suspect that Derpy gets cancer.

      Cancer Derpy is worst Derpy.

I apologize for the dark humor.

    3. I'm surprised this story didn't show up any sooner. I read an earlier version of this on fimfiction.net, that one having been put out before Derpy was Derpy. I'm probably gonna have to read through it again as I see there have been changes made. But if it's anything like the prior version, it's a pretty good read.

    4. Well that's an odd pairing. On another note Welovefine has added another Derpy shirt to their selection.

    7. @MagicLlama I took a peak and from what I can tell it's been revised. Couple new parts added, and Derpy is now Derpy (she was Ditzy in the prior release.)

    8. Congrats Pascoite! I'll have to give this a read when I get the time. For a MacDerp to get on here, this promises to be beautiful.

    11. @wackypony Really? I've read a couple Ditzy doo's Dismally Derpy day has it as well as the other two stories that Clavdivs Caeser has written. Those are really good if you wanna read more of this ship.

    13. Though I felt some of the imagery was beginning to take on a purple glow at times, it was never a real distraction from the story. I found myself smiling throughout most of it and feeling anxious during the diagnosis scenes. I particularly liked the prequel status. Overall, I found it to have a well-balanced dose of d'aww with enough tension to make it memorable. Nicely done.

    16. SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!!

This ending is really only 'optimistic' if you accept that someone with an altered personality and amnesia as a result of radical brain surgery is the same individual as before. Since they're not, it's pretty fucking tragic.

    17. @Mad Brochacho Oh boy, thanks for the warning. I've seen that happen in a couple different stories, and I must say, I don't enjoy it to well >:(

    19. I really enjoyed this one. It was a pleasure to read; excellent characterisation, and a solid story with a glimmer of hope in it.

    20. I enjoyed it, it was incredibly sad and after the operation I couldn't help but make her sound like she does in the show, and it neatly made me cry to do so

    21. My best friend died from cancer. He was like a older brother to me for years. He always wore a giant black hat. It was a perfect circle at the brim with a white line at the brand. He called it his swag hat. He struggled with cancer for 7 months before he died. On his final day he gave me his hat. I was only 6 and the hat didn't fit me but it was the best gift I ever got. His final words were "You got swag kid, now go out into the world and be awesome." He died a hour later but I left there with a memorial of our time and my memories.
