"Applejack is Best Pony" is by far the most difficult fan fort to hold here. But I'm doing it anyway.

She's important. She's extremely useful. After all, her family pretty much grows all of the food for Ponyville. She's helped out a lot, especially in a few Season 2 episodes, but she really isn't one for the spotlight, eh? Well, a Captain needs his/her Lieutenants...
That name and description could be used in a sad/grim fic about AJ where she either dies or gets hurt badly. I doubt that is what we are getting, though. :D If this is an adventure episode, I'll be happy!

i guess ill get some hate for this, but i quite like season 2 so far, the 2 part at the beginning was fun to watch (discord is best villain) and i loved lesson zero, i liked the nightmare night episode, quite cute if you ask me, sisterhooves social was quite enjoyable, rarity is my 2nd fav pony lol. cutie pox was hilarious, may the best pet win was pure epic, Mare-do-well was funny and about where i like the show to be, sweet and elite was epic if not just for twilights dancing and pinkies "party cannon!" do i need to go over secret to my excess? and the holiday ep last week was just amazing. im sorry, but i have high hopes for episode 12-14 and beyond lol

Now this is quite the news to wake up to. New episode with AJ! As some of you guys have said, I'm not gonna try to make any predictions on this or anything. Besides, I haven't been around long enough to make a prediction on any of the episodes. Yeah, it'll be a long wait, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. In my mind, none of season 2 has disappointed. But that's just me.
Why all the Applehate? AJ is an awesome character.
Also about the episode numbers, I'm assuming one set of numbers is production order and the other is television order. Originally Hearth's Warming Eve had a larger number than it should of, my guess is that DHX were assuming a faster airing schedule, so HWE would have aired as the xmas/festive episode. But then the Hub put in some more weeks with no poni, so HWE would have ended up in 2012 if they had kept the production order. So the Hub aired HWE out of order to make it just before xmas. That then results in production numbers being different from television order numbers.
If you think that's confusing, try getting your head around the Futurama production numbers vs Fox's USA TV order, it's chaotic. When downloading an episode, I have no idea which number scheme the uploader is using.

AJ fans shouldn't worry, if it's anything like "A Dog and Pony Show", which the synopsis was 'Rarity gets kidnapped by a group called the Diamond Dogs and the rest of her freinds have to save her.' Odds are, it's going to be a similar situation to that. The friends are trying to find her and we cut to them, but the majority is probably going to be with Applejack and learning why she ran away.

Anyway, this episode I would imagine, if the synopsis is correct, will indeed be AJ centered. Even if the other 5 are looking for her, it will most likely cut away to just AJ quite a few times so we can see what is going on with her, and why she ran off.

Yes, if it is an AJ episode, I predict it will either keep cutting away to see where she is and what she's doing on her own, like with Rarity in 'A Dog and Pony Show', OR it'll be like a flashback episode, where each of the other five take turns thinking about Applejack for various reasons while they try to find her. That's how I would write it, anyway...
I'd say Applejack has had a decent sized role in things so far this season. No, she hasn't had her "own" episode, but she's still coming in well above Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy in supporting roles.
If one recognizes that Twilight's role has been pulled back from what it would have been compared to last season, then really only Rarity has garnered a bigger role this season (helped by the fact that she steals so many scenes even in the ensemble episodes.)
Arguably Dash should get that title, as she has had two episodes pretty much all to herself, with no equal co-star (Sweetie Belle should get co-starring credit for Sisterhooves Social) which is more than can be said for any of the other five (Twilight was the lead of Nightmare Night, but it was all about and driven by Luna, making Lesson Zero the only full-on Twilight episode). However, I honestly don't think Dash works best in that position, and airing those episodes so closely together limited their impact on my impressions of the season so far.
I think Applejack could carry the lead role well, but there's no doubt she makes a really solid supporting character, and a valuable one at that in that she doesn't bring a ton of her own baggage to work into things. Even if she's not on screen much for this coming episode, there's always the chance to focus on what she means to the other five, which is pretty juicy stuff as well, and could illustrate her importance to the show just as well or better than if she spent the who,e episode front and center.
Well, that was rambling. Sorry... I shouldn't talk ponies so early in the morning.
Unless the episode's about the rest of the mane cast finding AJ, and she doesn't turn up until the very end...

I know AJ is far down the list in terms of top billings on episodes (sad but true), but I don't know about last. You guys don't think Fluttershy gets way less time than she does? I mean the last FS episode was that Phoenix one, and that one wasn't very good (I think so anyway).
Anyway, I'm glad for an Applejack episode even if it is about her getting lost. She still could br the focus of the story, just like Homeward Bound.

You're getting disillusioned, which happens to all of us who over-think things. The problem is that, like myself, you're lashing out at other people for their happy-go-lucky outlooks which run counter to your own feelings about what should be obvious or not.
Just need to center yourself in that case, take a step back and tell yourself that your opinions matter to you, and that their opinions matter to them just as much.
And I agree, season two has been a huge letdown for me. The episodes without Lauren have just felt... flat. Like they're missing soul. The ponies are missing depth like they used to have. It's sad, but I still love ponies, and I can just let go of my other analytical functions and just try to enjoy myself.
I suggest the same.
Personally I'm not really bothered about the fact Applejack hasn't had some big starring episodes of her playing solo aside from Applebuck Season as she's not really built to be a solo star. Being the most reasonable and down-to-earth pony of the mane cast, it's no wonder she often plays second lead or important supporting role as that is what she's best at. She has few flaws that we've seen and, unless she's put into a conflict situation like Rarity in Sweet and Elite, then I doubt her existing character flaws are something that can be exploited very far. She needs other ponies to reflect herself off from, and thus I find she's been very much in her element throughout the majority of the series, even in Season 2. Seems to me most AJ fans fail to see this and that many of them seem to grossly misunderstand the basics and strengths of the character when wanting her to have a big spotlight episode where she'll be at a big disadvantage (unless something new will be introduced to the character to justify doing this).
Also, Season 2 (based on the rating chart I've done for myself on both season episodes) seem to be pretty much in line with Season 1 in terms of great, good, average and bad episodes. The difference is really negligible in quality comparison.

If someone writes something that offends us, such as wacky's less-than-optimistic comments, we respond to it in an attempt to change that opinion to something we're comfortable with. But more often than not, the catalyst to the argument stays firm in their opinion, leading to more people attacking the claim until the catalyst leaves.
That's a good chunk of the art of trolling right there. Not that it is in this situation.

Im slightly disappointed at the community being so eager to rip apart their expectations so quickly before seeing any more details. Chances are, if you don't like Applejack already, a whole episode dedicated to her likely won't change much.
She's still my favorite pony, due to her element. An honest person, both in terms of being straightforward and willing to give advice to help their friends and colleagues improve, is truly a rare gem nowadays.
If something as pointless as screen time and # of episodes directly linked to her are hampering your ability to like a character, I don't really know what to say. You guys think too much, just enjoy the episodes as they are.
The expectations of the community are reaching critical mass, eventually we are bound to have a sub-community claiming the show's 'Getting worse, and should stop', before then, id like you to think about how much effort is being put into the series as a whole as opposed to all the other bland, empty series out there.
@Kayriel You might be overthinking it as well - maybe you expected a decrease in quality after Lauren's influence on the show has dropped. There's a lot to why the new episodes are how they are and I wouldn't "bury" FiM in the fashion you do just yet.
I'd also like to remind you that we all have encased Season 1's memories in an enormous golden shell of awesome and that it's hardly possible to hit that level (especially with what already has been estabilished in S1). I'm pretty sure S1 and S2 don't differ as much as you'd think.

Applejack's character was not made for lead roles. Notice that in many episodes, she's sort of a second-in-command for the Mane-6, and just works better when not the center of attention.

so any perceived lack of depth in characters has nothing to do with Faust departure as that is mostly writing stuff.

personally I can't see much difference between most S1 and S2 episodes in quality, and over analysing ruins both seasons.
There's probably gonna be some interludes showing what AJ is really doing, or it'll explain it in the beginning or something. It'll have AJ in some way shape or form.

I know AJ seems to lack episodes focused on her, but there's been a big emphasis on the Apple family this season, so I don't exactly think she's been cheated. AJ is sort of the straight man(pony) of the group, the levelheaded one that tends to keep things grounded compared to her friends. She hasn't really had much focused on her because she tends to shine in less overt ways.
Rantings aside, I'm really interested in this episode. I'm hoping (but not counting on) her disappearance has something to do with what happened to her, Big Mac, and Applebloom's parents.

Um, I don't want to offend anypony with my opinion, but I personally think everypony is mounting expectations that can never be met. I'm sure the writers truly appreciate the fanbase, but they just can't build up each episode to fit what fans desire. So, Trixie can't make an unplanned cameo, nor can Derpy Hooves or any other fanon-named character. Let's remember this is about the mane six.

Applejack episodes are rare, but she is a very strong co-star. She has a nice chunk of the dialogue and her character has been developed quite well, in my opinion. You can't cross your fingers and hope every episode brings some secret tragedy. This show is pure fun. I'm not saying it can hit a heartstring every now and then, but it's fun.
Then again, it's just my opnion. Please don't stop watching "MLP:FiM" just because it doesn't meet your expectations.

Yes, she's a great support character, she is level headed, but all of the characters have room to grow, none of them are perfect.

Actually, IMO, I think Applejack is best when she's ragging on Rainbow Dash. Seems like Applejack and Rarity have mellowed out.
I can imagine how many bronies will wind up in the hospital falling out of their chairs if it DOES turn out to be about her parents.
It'll be just like when Rarity disappeared on nightmare night, but ponies actually care about Applejack enough to go looking for her.
I'm really sort of stunned that everypony's guessing either we'll see what Applejack's up to whilst missing ala "A Dog and Pony Show", or else that she'll simply be the catalyst for the episode's events and otherwise not be at all present, when the first thing I think of when I read that summary is, "this is an ideal opportunity for the other characters to reflect on how important Applejack is to each of them, and how even though she may not have any special powers or flashy magic she's still an invaluable friend to each and every one of them."
Applejack's my favorite pony, and my heart is literally racing with excitement at reading that summary and imagining the possibilities. Obviously, I'm not going to claim my personal theory as the One Truth as to how the ep'll play out; if there's one thing FiM always does pleasantly well, it's surprise me. But I sure can't wait to see this one even so. :)

What I hope to see from this episode:
Applejack has plans with one or more ponies, and doesn't show up; this prompts a search for her during which the rest of the mane 6 talk to Apple Bloom, Big Macintosh, and Granny Smith, learning bit by bit what's happened to AJ. I'm hoping for backstory into the Apple family parents, maybe the day is like the anniversary of the day they died (if they did). Good way to end the episode? Mane 6 find Applejack crying in front of two tombstones, and a silent group hug is shared with AJ in the center.
Being a kid's show, it'll probably end up being something like her getting hurt/trapped/lost trying to round up (hence the name) a calf that got separated from the rest of the cow herd that apparently lives near Ponyville.
Since AppleJack is my favorite Pony, This could be one of the most important pony episodes of season 2. This Should be EPIC!!!!! ^_^
