You guys really need to make sure you hit the artist's DA page to see the high resolution panels. There are a TON of great details that get lost in the lower res version.
I Think Luna planned this, 1. the only known way to get any thing to the moon is celestia to banish it there. 2. If the moon acts like day time as well as the sun that means more people enjoy her "night" 3. Simply changing her sisters alarm clock got rid of her for 6 months
The only issue I have with this is the whole "Celestia can control both the Moon and Sun but Luna can't" thing, although that could be excused due to their age differences.
At first I thought they were portraying Luna as being to dumb to know the difference between fission and fission, but then I realized diabolically genius plan.
