• P For Pinketta // Brony College Presentation #3

P For Pinketta Above, Another Brony Presentation below! I'm not sure if you guys are sick of those yet! (the former or the latter)

    1. Wow, I thought the first video was pretty epic! Great syncing and other editing in this video.

    2. That is most certainly my favorite presentation by far. The pictures really made it amazing, and the suit made the whole thing perfect.

      ReplyDelete
    3. I TAKE THAT BACK. He dissed Rarity. all respect I had for him is gone.

      ReplyDelete
    4. Now THAT'S a nice trailer.

    5. I don't know why the college brony was giving a presentation on this subject (other than spreading Friendship and Ponies) but he hit it out of the freaking park. Seriously. This guy is a DELIGHT to listen to, and I want to subscribe to his newsletter, if he has one.

And then the video got to about 3:30 and I reversed my opinion of him. While a very good speaker he OBVIOUSLY has no grasp of the subtle charm of Fluttershy or any appreciation of the sophistication of Rarity's personality.

So for this he needs to be hung . . . and set on fire . . . while at the same time being tossed down a mine-shaft and ridiculed by the actor who played Kramer from Seinfeld.

Er, no . . . wait. I'm supposed to tolerate and love the shit outta him. *sigh* ok, I guess. *goes to kick rocks around a parking lot and pout*

    6. Why is he describing the show to a bunch of college students?.. And what's with the lack of reaction from the audience?!

      ReplyDelete
    7. Wow, he just doesn't understand the incredible majesty that is RARITY. Just another Rainbow Dash fanboy. Otherwise the presentation was solid.

      ReplyDelete
    8. There's no reaction because the audience is sitting there wondering "what's with this guy?"

Seriously guys. Ponies may be popular but they will NVER reach a mainstream audience. Not to be mean or anything, but most college students don't give a crap about the poni and probably think this guy is a "fag"

      ReplyDelete
    9. Guys. Stop doing this. You're making yourselves look really foolish by doing these college presentations.

      ReplyDelete
    10. Hmm... a fake move title... but, with a pony pun... wait! "From the creators of the Maretrix trilogy."

      NAILED IT!

      ReplyDelete
    11. Video #2... what's with the guy sitting in the first row? Seems kind of disrespectful to slouch in the middle of a speech like that.

I guess that guy must be a Rarity fan.

      ReplyDelete
    12. Dont stop seth, this vids are great, that guy's presentation is by far the bet I've seen yet. What an unresponsive audience tho. Still props to the brony

      ReplyDelete
    13. That presentation was retarded.
Fluttershy is definitely much more badass (and much more superior) than Rainbow Dash. Which pony can take on a Dragon? Fluttershy. Which pony get's their ass handed to them by a dragon. Every other pony. That man is clearly retarded for thinking that Rainbow is the best.

      ReplyDelete
    14. What is with the Fluttershy and Rarity hate? These brony presenters need to really learn the magic of FRIENDSHIP!

YOU DO NOT HURT MY FRIENDS!!! FLUTTERSHY 2012!!!

      ReplyDelete
    15. I must say, the propaganda posters at 0:41-0:42 were really nice touches.

      ReplyDelete
    16. He called Fluttershy a bitch...

      He. Must. PAY.

      ReplyDelete
    17. I'm actually doing a presentation about MLP this week for my Linguistics and Gender class. It's very short (and i won't get to tape it), but it should be a lot of fun. The presentation is more about the fanbase than the show, however. That's the interesting part as far as the assignment is concerned.

      ReplyDelete
    18. He called Fluttershy a bitch?!
      (Other than being inaccurate)

He must PAY FOR HIS IGNORANCE!
      BRING THE CUPCAKES!

      ReplyDelete
    19. It is quite amazing how this epic presentation was able to do a complete 180 halfway through and pretty much invalidate the whole thing.

Tolerance and love people, even if you don't care for a certain pony, we should still love and tolerate them.

      ReplyDelete
    20. What bothers me is how all these "college" presentations are popping up and none of them mention the interpersonal communication skills the show attempts forces into the story.

If they removed the interpersonal communications bs out of the show it would be better since a lot of the episodes force the ponies to go out of their way, and sometimes out of character, just so that Twi can "learn" something.

Another problem is some of the lessons are not what she should of learned. I'd quote an example but I started ignoring that part of the show.

Also, what about the time Twi said Pinky was jealous then Spike said "yup, green with envy." If the show's makers studied an introductory course to interpersonal communications, they'd know envy and jealousy are two different things.

    21. AWESOME TRAILER! I want too watch that.

I too just gave a Presentation to my college class on Friday (the day ep 25 came out).

As far as this presentation goes, the guys stage presence and theatrics as well as his use of the Powerpoint were great. Overall a nice job
The content of the speech is questionable after he gets to Fluttershy and Rarity. Lets hope HIS professor isn't a Rarity fan. (My professor likes Applejack the most.)

      ReplyDelete
    22. Why is it that public speaker bronys never like rarity?

are they all just jelly of her voice or what?

Also I highly doubt doing this kinda thing is going to make anyone care enough to call you a "fag"
they ether dont care at all.
were mildly amused by it thinking it was a joke.
assume you lost a bet or something and was forced to do this.
or are brony themselves and would probably find it hilarious.
Saying they shouldn't do it because they mite be called a fag is a shallow bullshit reason not 2 do it and is the same logic trolls use against people that like the show in general. So if your not going to do it because of that or criticize others for doing it then you mine as well stop watching tho show because odds are some shallow cunt will call you a fag over it eventually.
Your a hypocrite if you shrug trolls calling you gay off and then turn around and call somebody a fag for liking it openly and not giving a fuck

      ReplyDelete
    23. Was there even an audience besides the dead guy in the front row?

      ReplyDelete
    24. @Anonymous
theres nothing wrong with that part of the show

in fact that's basically the point of the show every episode is built around a moral and if you took that out your literally taking out the premise of the show witch is twilight learning about friendship

      >some of the lessons are not what she should of learned.

      wut?

also that line with pinkie was just a play on words bro no need to take it seriously

      ReplyDelete
    25. I gotta give the college brony credit for the confidence he demonstrated in giving that presentation, though for a class entitled "Professional Communication" it had significant flaws. A lot of its punch seemed to rely on humor that presupposed an existing knowledge of the show and community, which I imagine only ended up mystifying the audience. The weakly-supported bashing of choice ponies certainly didn't help matters, especially considering that (as seen in the comments) even many existing bronies don't find it all that amusing.

Knowing your audience is key in any presentation - consideration has to be made for what they're familiar with and what they'll find interesting/funny/amusing. A lot of stuff that the fanbase eats up will have no significance to those who are outside it.

(also, the F and S bombs would be a DEFINITE no-no in an actual professional presentation!)

It's a good effort, and it's well-organized with great use of visuals. Just gotta remember who your audience is.

      ReplyDelete
    26. You know I am wondering if this was a real presentation or if it was just a gag skit. Reasons are because 1. he gets NO audience reaction besides the dude in front who is trying to sleep, and 2. because he flows very rapidly through the whole thing as if it actually were a comedy skit without making so much as one mistake through the whole thing.

Granted he could have rehearsed it really well and actually be that good of a speaker. Granted, also, he may have given it on a day when most students were skipping class. I have to wonder about this one though. It just seems too perfectly set up.

      ReplyDelete
    27. NO!

You. do. NOT. Insult Fluttershy. EVER!

      ReplyDelete
    28. @lifegospel

That is... um... if you're ok with it...

But in all honesty, Ending with hating of a character makes it seem like you hate the entire series. the last words you speak are the most important because thats what people remember.

O wow, see I went back to see what he said last just to be sure he said what he thought he said. Turns out, he talked about the side characters which I completely forgot. just to show you how POWERFUL your hate filled portion of the speech was that thats all I can recall.

Now Fluttershy and Rarity are not my favorites but that doesn't mean i'm going to rage at them.

      ReplyDelete
    29. simply describing the characters makes for a very boring presentation to an audience who knows nothing about the work of fiction.

College bronies wishing to do speech presentations on MLP:FIM in the future should probably focus more on why the show is enjoyable and why is it has built up such a strong following amongst adult males despite the reputation of its source material.

      ReplyDelete
    30. I freaking lol'ed at both videos

      ReplyDelete
    31. What sort of courses are all these pony presentations delivered in? They mostly seem to be describing the show, but I don't know what course that would fit. Possibly business or public speaking?

In any case, I am waiting for a legit social psychology presentation analyzing MLP's popularity and massive positive effect on a large internet demographic. Heck, if I was in psych I would write my magnum opus on MLP. Call it, the effects of story telling media on social networking and it's capacity to reinforce diverse cognitive patterns.

      Also Rarity is da bomb.

      ReplyDelete
    32. That was a truly feeble performance.

      ReplyDelete
    33. First off, props to him for having the confidence to get up and talk about this in a college setting.
That being said, he's probably not going to get a very good grade on this. Unless his professor is a brony as well, he'll most likely be thinking, "What's a cutey mark? Who are the CMC? And why is this guy talking about a little girl's show?"
I get the impression that the only people who saw his speech before he presented it were other bronies. If the intent was to talk about something he was passionate about, he did very little to convince me he enjoyed it. And if this was meant to be informational, there weren't a whole lot of facts.
However, I will say that, despite his egregious flaws, he has by far the best delivery of any brony speaker thus far.

      ReplyDelete
    34. These guys need to learn some love and tolerance for fluttershy and rarity. Perhaps they don't want to admit liking those ponies since the embody common feminine attributes.

      ReplyDelete
    35. About the presentation:

That guy is a great entertainer. He knows how to present himself and to get the attention of his audience. (Am I just describing The Great And Powerful Trixie? ^^) I completely disagree with what he says from at least 3:20 on though. Also, it was already said here that if you want people to become interested, it's not a good idea just do describe characters out of context, but I want to add here that even if you do that, you should at all cost avoid to be tendentious. I mean, what do you get to know about Rainbow Dash or Rarity by listening to this presentation? Nothing at all. Just describing the characters out of context is one thing, but this isn't even a description.

As I said, that guy is a great entertainer. As such, he should do entertaining, NOT information. Maybe he should consider doing stand-up comedy. I would probably watch it. But a presentation of information requires more substance, especially if you want to get people into something that appears to be far off their normal range of interests.

And yes, Rarity is "da bomb". It took me several episodes to realize that though. Rarity's character is not easy to understand, especially if you are a male viewer (which I am). That guy obviously didn't get it. His loss, but maybe he just needs some time. Maybe one day he will even regret what he said about her.

      ReplyDelete
    36. I actually hate Rarity too. I find her unbearable as she focuses too much on outer appearances to the point where she can't get dirty.

On the other hand, I find her character to be very interesting with a lot of potential for fanfics which makes her quite likable to me. As the old adage says, "sometimes the most flawed character are the most interesting."

      ReplyDelete
    37. Post Scriptum: Also, one should avoid refering to Cutie Marks in a presentation on FiM before one has explained that concept, or even without explaining it at all.

      ReplyDelete
    38. @chiselite Her focus on outer appearances is exactly what I meant by "not easy to understand". Yes, Rarity focuses on appearance, but she does so in a very deep way, with great perception for detail. If you ask me, that's the stance of a real artist.

      ReplyDelete
    39. I posted this on Ponibooru, though it should have probably gone here.

This presentation would only get a C from an academic standpoint just for these issues:
      1) Presentation is on the characters rather than the show itself. No mention of Lauren Faust or why the show is popular.
      2) Foul and improper language is used in the presentation. Not only by him, but in a couple of the slides he uses.
      3) Referencing people, places, and events that a person unfamiliar with the subject will have no idea what they are talking about.
      4) The presentation stopped becoming a presentation when he started talking about Rainbow Dash and more into a rant when delving into Fluttershy and Rarity.

      ReplyDelete
    40. @Fritters: It should actualy be posted on the youtube video's comments.
But other than that I agree with your assessment.

      ReplyDelete
    41. From what I remember, I think presentation #2 was better.

This guy still does a pretty good presentation, he's confident and well spoken but makes a couple of big mistakes.

First he makes a whole bunch of references and presents everything to the audience as if they're already familiar with the topic. Judging from the total silence of the audience, none of them seemed familiar with MLP. The audience is probably wondering "Why should even I care about this", it's his job to explain why and keep them interested while educating them.

Secondly, he shouldn't swear or provide subjective information as fact. Sure he may hate certain ponies, but forcing his views on the audience is bad. He needs to let the audience make up their own minds with the information presented. Any negativity or hostility should just be left out. At the very least, if he had to bad mouth the ponies, state the reasons why >he< felt those ponies were bad.

I mean the goal of the presentation is to get people interested in MLP by telling them how great it is and why, then maybe they'll check it out or at least have a positive image of it.

      ReplyDelete
    42. @Anonymous

Rarity isn't hard to understand at all, like all of the other characters. It is a kids show, the characters are as complex as we viewers make them as adult viewers.

You are correct in saying that Rarity focuses on appearance with great attention to detail but as far as artistic qualities are concerned, it mainly applies to her dresses; when she makes them or wears them. When you make a dress, you focus of its design etc to make it look immaculate. That attributes to art. When you wear the dress or have someone else wear it, you spruce the model as cosmetics, nails, hair attribute to the presentation of a dress. That attributes to art.

However, just because you have the stance of a true artist doesn't mean it should bleed into your lifestyle and morals. In Look Before You Leap, Rarity's "artistic stance" bleeds into her lifestyle as she doesn't prune trees and beatifies them instead. She then complains about her mane being ruined when it rains and when her friend offers her a solution, she complains about her hooves getting dirty. Having a stance of a real artist bleeds into her personality so much that in the initial scene of that episode, Rarity appears to be extremely petty as the focus on her appearance is superficial, far from deep.

Rarity has flaws in her personality. She is quite superficial and allergic to hard manual labour and I'm fine with it because despite her flaws, whenever she learns a lesson about herself, you kinda feel like she takes it to heart. Nevertheless, you can't cover up or make excuses for whatever flaws she might have in her personality or attitude.

That's just my two cents. Don't wanna start a flame war. I could go on more about the reasons why "I" dislike Rarity and find her to be a terrible model but it is just my opinion.

      ReplyDelete
    43. I'm really enjoying this!

      >Fluttershy is one of the worst ponies

      ...Not anymore.

      ReplyDelete
    44. My personal notes on the three presentations so far (because you all care):

Presentation 1: In a serious light, it was pretty poorly done, but that was thrown together in two hours, how could it not be poorly done? In a less serious light, it was hilarious.

Presentation 2: Very well spoken, actually went into detail of why so many people like the show without getting into favourite-wars.

Presentation 3: Like a well-prepared version of the first presentation, which makes it that much worse. A lot of terms spoken in passing that aren't explained to the audience, plus hate being expressed towards the thing you're trying to get the audience into. Well spoken, but in a very wacky way, as if this shouldn't be taken seriously.

This show seems to invoke "which character is better" amongst people a lot, which speeches need to avoid doing. Thus, be awesome like presentation 2. Believe in the heart of the ponies!

      ReplyDelete
    45. I like this presentation! But really, he shouldn't give his opinion of who he likes the best or the worst. Other than that, it's pretty good.

      ReplyDelete
    46. P for Pinketta was spot on and hilarious, good work.
      Now for this presentation......
First things first, delivery was great. This speaker was actually confident and I could listen to him without facehoofing every minute or so. However, there were a couple of notable flaws which I will not go into too deeply as they have already been throughly covered by the comments here. 1. Most of what he said flew over the audiences head, he needs to explain some of the terms being used. 2. He covers the characters and not what makes the show captivating, it should be a delicate mix of the two. 3. For fucks sake stop bashing ponies during presentations. Its embarrassing. We get it, you want to assert your masculinity somehow during the speech and hating on characters is an easy way to do it; please resist the compulsion next time. For any Bronies who want to give a GOOD presentation on FiM....please adhere to these points and check the other comments. There are lots of credible suggestions here.
Also, was there even an audience? I feel like the person in the front row was a corpse they stole from the med school.

      ReplyDelete
    47. It seems to me that this is entirely too similar to the first brony presentation. I'd have to check later, but I think he covered most the same talking points, ran the mane cast in the same order, and showed the same level of scorn for Fluttershy and Rarity.

I'm pretty sure he just saw the original brony presentation and decided to do it with more confidence and better visuals.

As far as actually visuals, presentation 2 is better, but this guy has presence.

      ReplyDelete
    48. It's kinda frustrating how that college brony starts off his speech with "it's up to us to decide what each pony means to us" but then goes on to "now let me tell you who the two worst ponies in the show are and list everything that's wrong with them". He's not just showing a little bias - what we saw was full on verbal abuse! What happened to the whole love and tolerance thing that we bronies hold to such high esteem?

      ReplyDelete
    49. @chiselite @chiselite I completely agree with you that Rarity has character flaws. This should be obvious for everyone who has watched "Sonic Rainboom". But this wasn't my point anyway. I wasn't saying that she has no flaws. I was saying that her character is not as shallow as one might think at first impression. Her insecurity, obsessiveness and other character flaws actually add to this. It's much the same with the flaws of the other characters. We wouldn't watch the show if the characters weren't flawed. Think of the last episode, which added a new depth to Pinkie Pie's character, exactly by depicting her as flawed and insecure.

About the complexity of the characters, of course I know that this is a children's show and not a Shakespeare drama. However, the characters ARE more complex than those of most other children's shows. And of course I wasn't saying that you need to be a genius to understand Rarity, that would obviously be silly. I was just saying that one should take a closer look at her character before dismissing her. Of course, this holds for all other characters as well, so yeah...

      ReplyDelete
    50. P for Pinketta was absolutely amazing. This presentation... not so much. Not enough content in it, definitely a lack of information. This is only the third presentation so far, though; some brony will make a good argument soon.

      ReplyDelete
    51. At first i was like "Awesome!"
At 3:30 i was all "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! SHUUUUUUUUUUUUUT UUUUUUUUUUUUUUP!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRR! Now i need to watch all the episodes all over again to somehow cover up this bullshit!!!!!"

      ReplyDelete
    52. Why does everyone who makes a presentation cannot comprehend this simple Axiom...
      Rarity is the best pony!

      ReplyDelete
    53. I was digging the presentation till he attacked Fluttershy....HOW COULD YOU! and also he got Rarity all wrong.

      ReplyDelete
    54. Applejack_ugh.png

P for Pinketta was awesome. The other stuff, not so much. It's cool if you like the ponies, but please stop trying to push it so hard. Last thing we need is for bronies to be looked at as some weird cult akin to the creepos of $cientology. (no, I will not "love and tolerate" Love, sure, but tolerate? To tolerate obvious bad makes you an ignorant fool. Not everything in life needs to or should be tolerated)

Bashing two of the main characters, even if it's a sincere personal opinion, will NOT win anyone over. In fact, it makes one look crazy obsessed to be taking ponies /this/ seriously to even bother saying such a thing. Like when someone religious preaches "You either believe in ___ or you're burning in hell!" under the same breath of "___ loves you!" That attitude REPELS people away who otherwise could have bad a geniune interest.

      Just sayin'

    55. Did anyone else feel kinda awkward watching these presentations?

    56. College Brony: Pinkie Pie is great
      My Reaction: *applause*
College Brony: Rainbow Dash is Awesome!!
      My Reaction: AWW YEAH!
      College Brony: Fluttershy is bad.
      My Reaction: I hate you.
      College Brony: Rarity is bad.
My Reaction: this presentation deserves to be banished.

      ReplyDelete
    57. I feel like this guy faked the presentation and was only in a room with the guy in front and the guy with the camera, because it just feels really weird otherwise because he makes references to the show like they all know it to begin with, overall he overacted and spoke awkwardly.

      ReplyDelete
    58. I can't say whether or not the presentation was real or not, but it got a whole lot of laughs out of me. I agree that his hate of Fluttershy and Rarity were uncalled for, but he did make some valid points and his presentation itself was entertaining. It was also well done as well as funny with little in-jokes that made the presentation even more awesome even if it wouldn't make sense to regular listeners.

He may not have followed the love and toleration that the pony creed demands, but that doesn't mean I can't. Thank you for the many laughs good sir.

      ReplyDelete
    59. If you're gonna hold a presentation about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic then you should talk about how good the show is, why it is so good and why one shouldn't fear it's girliness.
By merely introducing the characters all you do is tell people that you watch MLP and they will laugh at you because they don't understand that the show is actually really good.
