I don't know, I might be a bit offended by that. I'd rather have it called fandom, but meme makes it sound kinda non-serious. Like everypony is watching it just to watch it.

Meme to me implies a passing interest -- like the previous posters said, calling it a meme suggests that our interest in it is because of some ironic reason or something.
It'd be like calling Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 a meme because it's a popular subject on /co/ right now.
Actually, it hasn't been confirmed yet. So it's not *technically* a meme, someone just submitted it to Know Your Meme.

While /co/ initially loved the series because of the artwork and animation, fans on /b/ seemed to enjoy the plot and characters more.
It didn’t take long for the show to cross over with other memes, such as “Post ending in x will y”, nor did it take long for threads with over 200+ posts about the show to become common,

Haha oh wow. Yeah that's why people keep a 24 hour thread up and why there's tons of fanfics, artwork, and discussion of the plot done by /co/.
It's kind of funny that the rest of the internet (and /b/ itself) doesn't even know anything about the other boards on 4chan. Considering that the rest of 4chan is where the actual funny and original stuff develops its kind of sad.
