Derpy has been with us just as long as the show has been with us. After being spotted in the background of the first episode of the show she has since become an icon for the pony community and a beautiful reminder of what can happen when fans and show creators come together. From that background appearance, she expanded from being just an easter egg to an actual appearing character to one who was even given speaking lines.
Amazing what a little goofy pony put in the background that was never meant to be seen can do, huh?
