• FIENDship is Magic #4—Interview with Writer Heather Nuhfer

Yes, I know this issue came out last week. No, that isn't going to stop me from posting it.

Recently, I had the opportunity to have a quick interview with IDW MLP Writer Heather Nuhfer about Nightmare Moon and the origins of her particular story.

As always, you can find it after the break!

When and how were you approached to work on Nightmare Moon's issue of FIENDship is Magic?

Gosh, I guess about 4 or 5 months ago Bobby [Curnow] emailed me to see if I'd be interested in it and which character I'd like to write.

The Beginning and Ending of Nightmare Moon's character arc has already been seen on the Friendships is Magic televsion series. With that in mind, what sort of challenges came about from crafting a story around Nightmare Moon's time banished on the moon?

Originally, I had pitched a REALLY big origin story that was about the far, far back origin story of Nightmare Moon.

Essentially it was where the Nightmare energy came from. If that makes any sense.

Though, I guess it probably didn't because my epic idea got turned down! *laughs*

BUT there is a tiny space in her timeline whilst on the moon that I focused on. It helps tie in the Nightmare Rarity arc, too while keeping show cannon intact.

So, probably the biggest challenge for this story was lack of story mobility. I had to stick to one spot, really. AKA, the moon.

If the opportunity were to present itself, would you come back for another tale with Nightmare Moon?

If I had another Nightmare Moon idea that I thought was really great, I'd certainly pitch it. I've reached a point with the MLP comics where I don't pitch unless I feel like I have a great story to share with you guys. I don't want to write them just because I can.

MLP is really important to me, and I want to give y'all the best story I can!

Well Heather, I think you succeeded with that. This is The Illustrious Q signing off.
