• Huge MLP Survey

Someone over at Ponychan has created a massive pony survey, covering everything from "What country are you from?" to "Do you clop to ponies? (Indirectly as always~)"

The results page after you finish is actually pretty interesting!

You can find the link below! We have had a few similiar surveys in the past, but apparently (according to this survey) the majority of bronies popped up in March!  So It's neat to get an update going.

    1. great survey. tells a lot about the fans.

    2. I'm a little concerned over the male to female ratio.

      ReplyDelete
    3. Some of these results are surprising while some of these aren't. Very insightful to the ideals of the fans.

also TEAM LUNA FOREVER!!! TAKE DOWN THE TYRANT, CELESTIA!!!

    5. Singles, I am disappoint.

    6. this is very helpful

    7. Team Luna leading is not at all surprising, people tend to support the underdog and poor Luna had it so bad...

    8. I'm not white.
      I'm Caucasian.

    9. @Anonymous It's team luna, not team nightmare moon, you idiot!

      ReplyDelete
    10. Yay Team Luna.

And if my state gets three more people liking ponies, statistically speaking one of them might be female.

    12. *Shrugs*
Relationship Status includes no option for not-interested.
Clop option is specific to R34, implying explicit content.

Aside from that YAY SLIGHTLY SKEWED OPT IN POLL STATS.

      ReplyDelete
    13. @l0x0r, you're forgetting that 93% of the people that replied to the survey were male. Also, the results for the relationship status question bother me.

    15. Completed for great justice, TEAM LUNA FOREVER!!!!

      ReplyDelete
    16. There needs to be an option for the rule 34 thing that says "I only clop to the humanized ponies."

      ReplyDelete
    17. Given the way a lot of conversations go in threads I'm suprised at some of these results like 9% For Rarity with 30%+ for Twilight and Rainbow Dash. Majority white, male, single and ranging from ages 18-30? Yep, thats the internet in a nutshell.

      ReplyDelete
    18. Wow, Lauren Faust did a really good job appealing to more than just little girls.

      ReplyDelete
    19. Yeah the problem with this poll (like with all similar polls) is that we only get feedback from the net-dwelling segment

      ReplyDelete
    20. The hundreds of people who chose "FiM spreads love when most of my world was filled with hate" makes me happy. <3

      ReplyDelete
    21. I don't know which is scarier, that there are people over the age of 60 enjoying this series, or that there are people under the age of 13 frequenting websites where this poll is advertised.

      ReplyDelete
    22. again...no central america for latino bronies? RACIST!!! central america and south america are completly diferent. that motherfucker must learn some geography, we are not the "other" we are part of america too.

      I'm not voting >:(

      ReplyDelete
    23. Huh, 10% of bronies like to clop to Rule 34.

Not to degrade those people, but what do you find in it that makes you want to clop to it? I'm just curious...

      ReplyDelete
    24. Heh. Not bad, though personally I feel the rule34 question was a bit lacking.

I'm all for it, but I'm not clopping to it.

I find rule34 hilarious in all applications, so I love keeping up with adult material of anything and everything. So there is a slight disjoint between my intent and the "clop" option I had to pick.

    25. "92% Male"

      FOR GOD'S SAKE

Well, the demographics are heavily skewed, but that's definitely because of nature of the survey: who's exactly most likely to take it?..

@Anonymous I guess people really DO forget what they actually did when they were kids... Let me tell you, it usually doesn't involve picking flowers and frolicking in the sun.

      @Anonymous Friendship! Of course.

      ReplyDelete
    26. Who are the 63 people with 2000+ files in their pony folder and will they share their contents?

      ReplyDelete
    27. @Zarkanorf

Yo, over 2,600 images here. What are ya lookin' for?

      ReplyDelete
    28. @AnonymousIt has to do with population. California has the highest population in the US, followed by Texas, which came in second highest on the poll.

      ReplyDelete
    29. @Zarkanorf

Uploading my 505MB folder with 2113 images would take some time. Just save every picture you like and you'll have more eventually.

    30. Aww man, so few living in Southeast Asia.

      ReplyDelete
    31. I'm disturbed that %56 of Bronies don't support the series financially, not to be annoying but that doesn't bode well for a merchandise driven program.

      ReplyDelete
    32. @Benschachar
I'm a 17-year old living with my parents in Poland. What do you expect me to do? If I had a job and a bank account I'd buy a season ticket on itunes and every other toy I came across.

      ReplyDelete
    33. @Benschachar

If Hasbro actually produced anything decent related to the show I'd give them my money!

      ReplyDelete
    34. @toy discussion

I'd say at least _consider_ buying one of the $5 ponies to, if nothing else, look cute on your desk. Or, show support by buying the hopefully inevitable Season 1 box >_> .

Also first Louisianian to represent in the survey. Dibs on being a member of the Fan Senate :D .

      ReplyDelete
    35. Agreed on the subject of merchandise, If there was Twilight, Rarity and Rainbow Dash toys that actually looked like they do in the show then I'd be willing. And if they released this on DVD/Blu-ray it would give me a more subtle method of sharing FiM as a gift to some of my friends/relatives daughters.

      ReplyDelete
    36. @Crimson Warning
I was hoping all, but that seems like a ridiculious request to me, now. I think I'm going to follow @Anonymous's advice and just SAVE EVERYTHING.

      ReplyDelete
    37. @Benschachar

Well I for one am planning to order the DVD when it is released.
That would also send a better message than buying their badly made pony dolls

      ReplyDelete
    38. This poll needs to spread to other sites. The results as they are don't seem complete. I think that there should be a poll at the end of May.

Also any other Zebra(Black) Bronies out there? Only 16 brothas out here I feel that there are more of us somewhere.

      ReplyDelete
    39. Remember, you need to add "Of the people who took this poll," to any statistic. Are the people taking this poll a real representation of the majority of MLP fans or is the poll already aimed at a certain subset of the fans. For example, I have a lot of friends who like the show but aren't interested in pony fan sites.

      ReplyDelete
    40. Ha. That was a bit of fun to fill out, so thanks for that. It's interesting to see what the popular opinions were, no surprise in some cases, though.

Some good questions, there. And I'll stand with those who're going to pick up the DVD boxset, and since everyone already knows that I watch it anyway (eccentric loon that I am), I'll have no shame in displaying it proudly.

It'll be a great talking piece.

      ...

      SUCH a great talking piece.

I want more My Little Pony talking pieces. Do you hear me, Hasbro? How about a Princess Luna plush? Get on it!

And that said - Team Luna all the way!

I sound like a Twilight fan.

Bah! I don't care what I've become, I do it... for the ponies. (And this great community.)

      ReplyDelete
    41. @Benschachar

Well I'm planning to buy a DVD if they release one, or even just a toy that actually looks like FiM's characters if they release one. The toys they have now look nothing like the characters I like, they look like the old cartoon characters which I don't like. But until then...

      ReplyDelete
    42. Right, that's enough being lazy for me, I actually have a Blogger account, now.

      ReplyDelete
    43. If my country actually sold anything relevant to the show i would go buy it.
      Unfortunately it doesn't.
Hell i don'ts think there's MLP merchandise here at all.

      ReplyDelete
    44. Interesting poll is interesting, but there is some response (some answers were worded in non-neutral ways) and sampling bias.

(Also, I think the maker of the poll should have put a non-binary gender option because I wasn't quite comfortable with clicking "male" or "female".)

      ReplyDelete
    45. @Anonymous

Harrumph! I might not be quite that old but *pounds on walker* I am appalled that we geezers are so outnumbered by you whippersnappers! Even the below 13's outnumber us! ReplyDelete
    57. @Benschachar I'd gladly bought some quality FiM merchandise (hell, im even into expencive stuff if its good). There are a few problems:

      1) I live in Europe and you cant find any FiM merchandise.
      2) US's MLP toys are either about older series, or of extremely shitty quality (god, even Mc'Donalds toys were better), and this is extremely disgraceful. All this recolored ugly toys with accessories nobody cares about?

      So Im not buying shit.

      ReplyDelete
    58. @Anonymous

Suited For Success and Sonic Rainboom.

...at the least, those two episodes got *me* talking about the show nonstop, even though I'd been faithfully watching since the pilot aired back in October.

One here. Not that it's a big deal on the internet where most people know me by whatever icon I'm wearing that year. But I was a bit curious about how many others there were, too.

    62. @Benschachar

like the others, id be more than willing to shell out for a series one dvd and possibly some kind of soundtrack

    63. I kinda hate they didn't consider Mexico among all the listed countries. Come on, it's right below US!! Here's a mexican brony somewhat dissapointed >=/

Canada is also part of North America, but they're listed as a country instead of being part of a geographic location. I mean, there's a lot of Mexican bronies around; where's the love to your friendly taco suppliers?

P.S. Did my time at school, now working as a graphic designer.

      ReplyDelete
    65. I'd totally buy some MLP merchandise if they actually released better stuff (ie. more show accurate toys, Derpy Hooves, DVDs with extra features to the level of other movies, etc)

I find it surprising there's not more asians, I thought that would be the majority.

Majority single. MLP does such a good job giving out love unconditionally, it makes sense to appeal to the ones who need it. Either that or maybe most couples are so self absorbed with nagging at each other and eating up each other's time they have no time to watch MLP. :)

Majority male. The females among us just need to spread MLPs to their girlfriends more effectively.

      ReplyDelete
    66. I clicked the it fills me with love where there was once hate option, which isn't entirely truthful. Rather, it fills me with happiness where there was once uncaring.

*sniff* It just makes me so emotional.

      ReplyDelete
    67. 86% single? I guess Ponies fill the hole in one's heart that a significant other otherwise would for many people.

I know it does for me. A few months ago I would always fall asleep in the arms of my girlfriend. Now I fall asleep watching Applebuck Season. To be honest I sleep better with Ponies than I ever did with my girlfriend on top of me.

      ReplyDelete
    68. But is there any way to see the updated results long after you've taken the survey without having to send your data again?

      ReplyDelete
    69. @Zarkanorf

6k images for me at the moment, but that's mostly through the power of cheating, as 3k of that comes from here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SPOOTPLY

      ReplyDelete
    70. @Zarkanorf

6k images for me at the moment, though 3k of these come from one compilation. It's available on MU - i tried to link it, but apparently EqD doesn't take kindly to anons linking things and my post got deleted. But anyway - SPOOTPLY is the file code, if you're interested (maybe it won't get deleted this way).

Weird that it was deleted when the original post still showed up in my email notifications. I'm about 3 minutes away from expanding my pony folder by 3k now.

    73. @Retl

I noticed something of a delayed response in deletions here. It's quite clever, really - when someone intentionally makes a post that would get autodeleted they can check that it actually appears and move away chuckling to themselves... only to have it autodeleted when he's not looking. And even if he stays he can't be sure if the post will stick, making intentionally breaking autodeleter rules tiresome.

On the other hand, in situations like this one such a system can backfire, deleting links to real content and letting whoever links said content leave without any notification of it getting deleted. It's not the first time I've seen this in action, so I was checking until I was sure - and lo and behold, it disappeared, so I wrote my second post avoiding anything that might trip the autodeleter. This one seems to have stuck.

      ReplyDelete
    74. @Zarkanof:

I have no idea how much pony I have (I've yet to sort through it all, most of it I got through a massive download), but I'm pretty sure it's at least close to 2000, probably over. Don't really have any accounts for file-sharing websites, though, so I'm not sure how I'd share any of my files.

      ReplyDelete
    75. @Display Name

      1. Zip
      2. Upload zip to Megaupload (you don't need an account, and they allow for some pretty big files)
      3. Share link

If you'd like to do it, it's that simple. Well, unless if EqD decides to eat your post for containing a link. In that case just share the file code.

      ReplyDelete
    76. @Anonymous:

Oh, I thought Megaupload needed accounts.

Well, I just checked and surprisingly, I didn't even have 1000, so I'm going on a mass saving spree so my 2000+ estimation will be true.

      ReplyDelete
    77. Awesome and very interesting!

Well, I'm a single white 23-year-old female from the USA (New Jersey), who's been following the show since October 2010 because I discovered it right on the Hub. Since then, however, I've experienced all of the different sites on which the majority of other fans apparently found it.

So far I own 3 McDonald's toys (Applejack, Twilight Sparkle, and Celestia), but I am desirous of much more merchandise. I've always *liked* MLP, but was never really into or obsessed with any prior version.

My favorite of the mane 6 is Rainbow Dash (followed by Applejack, Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rarity--although Fluttershy and Pinkie can kinda switch at times...) I always feel the need to stress how much I love them all so that nopony feels bad; unfortunately, somepony has to rank last. =[

I chose Scootaloo as my favorite CMC (followed by Applebloom and Sweetie Belle--I like them all as well) and "secondary/tertiary" character (which was an extremely difficult question, and Derpy was a most tempting choice too, among several others. ;) I sided with Team Luna...have a bunch of files...as well as numerous favorite episodes, and with practically new one the show just somehow seems to get better and better, so I'm frequently shouting, "New fave!" My pony love is anything but secret and I will proudly tell anyone, whether they want to hear it or not...also still looking for a great top or hoodie or coat or SOMEthing to wear in order to proclaim the fandom and spread the magic of friendship through clothing.

I do sorta like the Rule 34 stuff, although it really would depend on the individual item. Oh, and I love absolutely everything about FiM in the final question. ^_~

In contrast, the rest of you are overwhelmingly single white males between 14 and 40, residing in the US, having discovered the show via 4chan and become fans within the past 3 months...never having been a pony fan in the past, and currently owning no merchandise. =]
