Game: New MLP Online Sprite Test Up!

Looks like progress in the 2d MLP online game is coming along pretty smoothly! They finally have a movement test demo thing out.  You can find a link to it below, along with some surprisingly awesome soundtrack.

The running speed is slightly too fast, but other than that I have no complaints. The music sounds great, the game seems to run fluidly. I'm stoked.

I think he does it to scare the locals and keep us on our toes; "One update per hour my left hoof!" he'll have us saying.

Getting back on topic, note to self: when Pony MMO REALLY HAPPENS, run around Applejack's barn for the first hour of playing.

glad to see this is ACTUALLY HAPPENING

Neat! The stand, walk, and run animations all look great - and they blend well when going from a dead stop to a run, and back again.

1. I now know that albino ponies creep me out.
2. Are you sure that's Applejack standing out in front of the barn and not Fluttershy? I tried talking to her but all I could get outta her was a "..." :P

@Zarkanorf
why wait for official release when you can do that RIGHT NOW WHEEEEEE

but yeah I sent the email, was just reading one of the other articles for about five minutes, went back to the main page and BAM

Music is super duper neat

At first, I thought it was just a video, so I sat there for 30 seconds or so listening to the music, waiting to see what the little pony was going to do. Then I saw that I COULD MOVE IT AROUND MYSELF! And then, there was joy. Much, much, joy.

I agree with the run speed being a bit too fast, especially when you factor in that there might be many ponies all running around in the same area at the same time. Other than that, no complaints. It's another step forward to being able play this for real, and having updates like this keeps me quite happy.

Bravo, game designers, BRAVO!!!

This is very well done. Keep at it Urimas.

yes this was mainly to test the sprites not so much the movement speed the max run speed will be slower and walking a bit faster :) right now im working on the bucking animations i have left and right done only the other 6 directions left to do xD

Superb for a start.

The game designer in me wants to supervise the core gameplay and production. The sane person in me says I'm an idiot.

This is looking better and better all the time, a real labour of love. The animations look just fine to me, too. Really smooth. This is impressive because this is of a higher quality than I've seen in a lot of freeware/open source games. So congratulations are in order on that count, I think!

imagine an MMORPG made out of this

Sir Leadhead said...

@Anonymous Well, that's the idea, silly ;)

and not enough win in the world. Professional development teams dont work this fast. Many and lots of gratz are needed for this. Pinkie Pie will break through reality to personally congratulate the developers of this when they are done, I predict.

Or, at the very least, lots of bronies will declare them deities.

how is the pony RPG supposed to work? is it going to be like a community thing, with many pony users online at the same time on the same map, or is it going to be a single player game?

Urimas Ebonheart said...

Its going to be a Living Online game you can chat with other players do activities together meet the Staff and Main characters, help with tasks/quests do jobs like apple bucking, baking, dress making and more

@Urimas Ebonheart

that sounds amazing. Who plays the main characters, and would we be able to customize our own pony avatars?

Urimas Ebonheart said...

@Anonymous

The staff will take the roll of a main character for GM runned events/quests

and yes a good customization system to

MizuTakishima said...

Is the customization going to be better than the the Hub game?

I don't want this to go into sparkle-dog territory or anything, (unnecessary markings, gaudy accessories and scene hair, etc) but it would be cool to see more coat options and a bigger variety of mains/tails :D

Urimas Ebonheart said...

yes much better we plan to have hue control allowing players to pick the colour they want, accessories/clothes are bought/earned ingame, we'll have a much more variety or manes/tails, eye shape and colour so yeah this will be more then the hub version :P

ALL OF MY MONEY. TAKE IT NOW.
