• Pony Game Engine Demonstration

Those guys over at Derpy Hooves continue to make progress on their new MLP Flash game!  This is a demonstration of the engine they are using for it!

I'm surprised this community has pulled stuff like this out so quickly.  Nice work guys!

    2. "WHISTLES" Nice engine. Still say the FiM cast would make great MUGEN characters, but everyone in that community would probably balk at making cute and cuddly fighting pony characters. (Derpy with a muffin beam, hooves crossed for that eventuality to occur)

Monster ideas? They could use a few from the show and any mythology really, plus shadow creatures are the general brand of easy to design monsters. Props such as all kinds of foods, items and clothing? ask around for all kinds of input and stick to the most plausible responses. Maybe even a pony editor? The biggest question is what kind of game are they exactly trying to make, looks to be arcade to adventure style.

    3. I'd be willing to donate money for this.

    4. I saw this on DerpyHooved earlier, ridiculously impressive how fast these guys are working.

I would also send money to fund this project.

    5. This is actually really cool. I'd be happy to contribute a modest donation.

    6. We're that much closer to a MLP RPG.

    7. That is impressive; never underestimate the power of fandom!

    8. Volunteered my time working on the engine.

    9. I hate to criticize something that's already so awesome, but I think the pegasus flight mechanic could use some tweaks.

Instead of having them hover and move in the direction the arrow keys are pressed, as they seem to do here, I think they should use something more like the screw attack in Metroid.
i.e., every time the jump button is pressed, the character is propelled upwards a short way (a "wing flap") but slowly drifts down if no button is pressed. I think this is a slightly more challenging, interesting way for game characters to fly, and I've enjoyed games where it is used.

I'm not a programmer of any kind, so I don't know if this is too hard to implement, feel free to tell me if it is. Again, it looks great so far, so don't take this as me putting down your awesome, awesome work. It's just my two cents.

    10. Shouldn't cutie mark be visible only if she's flying right?

You're certainly an accreditment to the community! Keep up the good work.

    12. Looks awesome so far. But I think Dash´s movement shouldn´t be so rigid but more smooth.
Pressing an arrow-button should increase her speed into the pressed direction. Releaseing the button decreases the speed.

Also the game needs background buildings.

Huh. I always thought it was just Celestia's thing. Seems I'm not too much perceptive.

    15. That's really good! Yes, Graphics just "fine" but knowing what pain in the rump is collision detection in flash, I give it 5 stars.

So the goal of the game is to destroy as many things in Ponywille as possible. Cool!

    16. im waiting for people to make custom lvls off the fanfictions like they did on wow rp servers. *my hobby is finding laughably wierd stuff*

though that engine looks really nice, im hoping we get some nice puzzle games out of it

    17. Got to keep an eye on this. Looks great and they guys work fast indeed. Whee pony games!

    18. I just volunteered; haven't heard back from the dev yet. :) Hopefully they can find some use for me.

    19. I'm looking forward to playing this game more than any other upcoming game, including Skyrim.

    20. try to make this game as a Fighter Pilot on miniclip to derpy hoves was green and red mailbox plane. I must admit I tried the same but it was for me being difficult

    21. @Lucres
I could do that, it just depends on how everyone feels it should work. If the majority of bronies want it so that you have to tap up, I'll change it, if they want it to stay like it is, I'll leave it.

The graphics will only be as good as the community makes them.
We've been tracing most of the objects from the show, so they're really exact copies. Only a few things (you can probably tell which ones) were made entirely by my imagination for testing purposes, but will not be in the final game.

Once again, it depends on the majority's viewpoint. If the majority wants a smooth-moving Dash, I'll go back and change it to work that way.

Actually it'll probably be a puzzle-solving fighting and rescuing game.
Push a block onto a button to open a door and rescue a pony. Fight a boss, unlock a new pony.
Though like I said, almost any game type is possible, and I'd rather hear from the community what types of game play they want to try out when our version is released.

    25. Rainbow Dash destroys anything and everything in her path, very realistic.

Seriously though, this looks amazing. Frankly I'm shocked someone would actually have the great common sense to come up with an ENGINE before anything else.

      Rock on!

    26. Someone should get these guys a medal.

If we don't have any medals, we should throw them a party!

      Hmmm...

Screw the medals! Let's PARTY HARD!

Once we get in a buck animation, walking into things won't break them anymore, you'll have to actually attack them.
I am planning on adding Rainbow Dash's Sonic Rainboom in as one of her unique attacks.

    28. @Timesoda I enjoy that idea for a game-type.

I'd really like to make a game that really takes a while to complete, that you enjoy playing. So puzzles may not always be so simple, and you won't be spending the entire time just rescuing ponies.

    30. How did they do that so fast?

We've been working on this for about two months.
I posted in a /co/ thread once when I saw a photo that looked like a Derpy fighting game, then was told it wasn't a real game. I looked around and found that there were no games for FiM, so I began work.

I never expected anyone would donate money to it, I started this up because I wanted there to be a game out there worthy of the new series. I won't ask for donations but could use them. As the project gets bigger and the filesize grows larger, any time I make a mistake, it takes about 10 seconds to undo. I may end up buying better/faster RAM if there are donations, and it would definitely help.

    34. It would be even cooler if we could make our own characters as well as use the main ones. With even more customizations (colors, mane styles, saving your character) than the official game. I really like this idea as well. It's very well thought out, and interesting. I hope it comes out soon. The maze is very intriguing. I like the idea of a Sonic Rainboom in the game. It adds awesome.

    35. It would add onto the awesome if Fluttershy's attack was her stare, and Twilight's was her fire-attack (or a spell!). Yay for endless possibilities!!
