Wow, this story sounds amazing! There's only one character in the labels that I wasn't really excited about, and I've never read a fic that had them in it, so this'll be my first impression for that bg pony. I hope it's a good one!

I like this hybrid style.
Very interesting story so far. Now considering that author's note at the end...
First of all, why do I like this story. Well, I for one like the combination of light grimdark/seriousness and shipping. I feel that those two mix together well when done right, and so far you seem to be doing so. It will take time, of course, to see for certain, but it seems to be going pretty steady so far.
On a similar note, the characters are also well done, and seem to have depth. Using OC's allows your characterization as an author to shine through, and those OC's being background ponies is also a nice touch. Once again, only time will tell if they will continue this trend and develop as good characters should.
The transitions from first to third person, in my opinion, are good. It allows the story to expand beyond one point of view, and you execute it well. By that, I mean you make it very clear when the point of view changes.
Now let's address the plot. Honestly, I do not have too much to say about this. The story has not really progressed far enough for me to see where it will go exactly. However, what has been done so far is pretty solid. All in all, this is a very worthwhile story, and one I honestly hope you keep up with.
