In the Doctor Who episode "Silence in the Library", shadows were inhabited by microscopic carnivorous creatures called the Vashta Nerada that could only be driven back or killed with light.

Am i a bad pony for liking the expression on Celestia in the second panel?

It's (among other things) a reference to the Dr. Who episode Silence in the Library, which has a Wikipedia page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silence_in_the_library

It's also an awesome episode, so if you're interested in the new Dr. Who and haven't gotten to it yet, don't read that page!

Even not understanding the reference

I thought this was entertaining

Doctor Who episodes 8 and 9 of 4th series.

I saw them today ^^ really I just freakin saw them today! :D

Hahaha! Loving Celestia' after-face in the third panel -#-

Anyways, I appear to be one of the few who understand the reference. Doctor Who is always good for a laugh! Don't forget the Weeping Pegasi!

*Grins* I'm so happy to know I'm not the only pony who was kinda baffled by this one. I like Don Ko's stuff but they really need to have explanations under their comics, the last one was kinda "huh?" too.

Bazil said...

THe gist of it is The Doctor ( a time/space traveler)and his companion arrive on a library that covers the entire planet; yet strangely the entire place is deserted... long story short the shadows are alive and eat people if you dont stay in the light.

Homfrog said...

@Bazil

Bang on description, mate.

Fanloser said...

What is with Celestia's face in the last panel?

QuantumFire said...

I remember that episode, the doctor feeds the shadow a chicken leg.

Brian said...

@Fanloser: My guess is that releasing so much magic from her horn was similar to...*ahem*

Beese said...

Well -blam!- Looks like my 10 page Dr.whoof Fanfiction that I have been working on for the past 2 months is now going to be made by someone else!

Quickly I must post before someone else takes the idea!

One day soon, I'll be watching Dr. Who just so I can understand all the Dr. Whoof jokes.

Confound those ponies, they drive me to research!

Did anyone else notice twilite. I was laughing at flutter shy when I noticed twi face sicking out of the book shelf.

FightingFire said...

Celestia now has a fetish for auto-erotic asphyxiation. It's canon.

Homfrog said...

@FightingFire

Not auto, it's assisted. And I think it more has to do with all the magic shooting out of her horn.

Anonymous said...

This is awesome.

@Fanloser

I would guess that she horngasmed.

Fanloser said...

@Brian
So basically, Doctor Whoof and the Princess just had one of the weirdest forms of sex EVER.

Anonymous said...

They killed Fluttershy's shadow... no wonder she's going yay. She's positively glowing now!

Anonymous said...

Did... did Celestia just get off?

FasterThenRainbows said...

LOL there's a half-life book on the third panel.

Anonymous said...

"If you want to live, count the shadows"

Anonymous said...

So Celestia is into erotic asfixia...?

Ud the Imp said...

AWESOME. And I think Celestia has a choking festish.

Anonymous said...

Nah, it's just the effects of such a powerful... release.

BlitzWing00 said...

I don't really get it either. I've seen the Dr Who episode a while back, I know about the shadows....but I don't get what it has to do with strangling Celestria.

Anonymous said...

@Batty Gloom

And Once you become a Doctor Who fan you'll never type or write it as "Dr. Who" again.

Naxts said...

I don't exactly get the comic. But I thought it was really good.

Sheepdog said...

"Yay indeed..." She must like the way the Doctor handles her alicorn! ^.^

I'm not complaining, I love the fanfic's and comics, but it makes me wonder what has drawn so many Doctor Who fans to the pony fandom.
I've been a fan of the Doctor for some time now, but only recently fell for the pony's. And other than Doctor Whooves, who is a mostly fandom driven character, I don't see the connection.

Putuk said...

Hrm...
Using a god as a weapon.
That pony shure is crafty...

Anonymous said...

@Anonymous
No, they weren't driven back/killed by light. They just hid in darkness. They can survive, they're just so small, and have such huge swarms that they look like shadows.

Don_ko said...

@Sheepdog

Confound that ponies! They drive mt to Doctor Who. And this is true. Fanfic #12 made me wonder about the Doctor. I saw several episodes before, but was not interested in that time. Ponies make it all complete and now I like Doctor Who. Not a hardcore fan, but it's a damn good series.

Ah... I knew that most of bronies will not understand. I even made a explanation on the Deviantart about what's happen. Next time I will ask Seth to post here not only actuall comic, but also my explanation of it.

Don_ko said...

@Anonymous
Can anything survive under the pressure of thousand suns? Answer - No. Even Vashta Nerada. Maybe except Fluttershy, but only because she has force field of cuteness around.

Anonymous said...

In the last Panel Fluttershy lacks her shadow.

beese111 said...

@Anonymous

That's because the Vashta Nerada has been defeted!

Anonymous said...

@BlitzWing00

It seems Doctor Whoof used Princess Celestia as a glorified flashlight!

I'm getting the feeling that English was not Don_Ko's first language...

Rohit Eligeti said...

Doesn't make sense what's going on...
why hate celestia so much??? hate the president! LOL

Anonymous said...

@Anonymous

OK, by some miracle this is the one episode of doctor who I have watched. Vashta nirada are carnivorous entities that lurk in shadows. Characters who went through shadows with these entities died almost instantly from being stripped down to their bones. coincidentally, this episode happened in a library. alright? I think that explains it fully ^_^

@Anomymous

Great, now I have an image of a zombie-astronaut-pony chasing the group and saying that over and over. And without further adieu to 1-up that:

"Twilight Sparkle has left the library. Twilight Sparkle has been 'saved'."

CELESTIA IS IN DIRTY STUFF????
WHY that face after somepony choke her

Anonymous said...

..... OH I GET IT! Ha.

Anonymous said...

Celestia has a choking fetish. I'm actually not all that surprised.
