Nothing can justify the kidnapping and attempted enslavement of not just one pony, but at one point, of up to 6 ponies. I don't care what that pup has, what those dogs did was wrong in every way possible.

Somehow I can't help but think of the movie "All Dogs christmas carol" and changing it to "All Ponies christmas carol". (Itchy played by Fluttershy, Charlie played by Rainbow Dash and Rarity as Belladonna with Luna as Annabelle)
See, this is why instead of letting Rarity solve problems, we should have everyone summon the power of the Elements of Harmony and blast every new advesary with GIANT PILLARS OF LIGHT to cause a magical KO because Defeat Means Friendship and then they could all be saved after everyone wakes up two months in the future.
Or if you really want to take the comic's scenario seriously, there's the fact that if they had taken the first set of gems Rarity pointed out and immediately let her go as she asked and dug them out themselves and kept them, that surgery would have already been paid for. (PS: When the first show up, they already have gems. Unless that's their source of food, they should already be able to sell the ones they have to pay for the surgery. But maybe they don't know how to sell things?)
