• Nightly Roundup #1349

Out of our main cast I can only see AJ being the one to head out on a long journey by herself and managing to make it through. No matter your views on her, you've got to admit she is one tough pony.

News time guys! Get it all after the break.

I don't know much about this Ghost guy but I guess he is a popular target in some circles, especially during the early days of the fandom. I guess over the weekend some folks at BronyCon called him up while his show was live and this is the result.

Positive BronyCon Article in Norwegian Newspaper

Guess BronyCon reaches far and wide as a newspaper in Norway has ran a story on the convention. It's in Norwegian so I'm not sure what it says, but apparently it's a pretty positive piece.

    Brony Proposal

It's really cool how many proposals we've in the fandom over the years and it never gets old, even though this one is a few years old. Congrats to the happy couple!

"Back in 2012, I finally worked up the courage to propose to my long-term girlfriend. I was struggling to find a way to make it both memorable and meaningful. Eventually, I decided to take a page out of the book of everyone's favorite pink pony and propose with a song (it did help that Pinkie's also her favorite). It was still really out of character for me, as I've always been self-conscious about my voice. After saying yes, my new fiancé's first request was for me to sing it again-- after she had pulled out her phone to record, of course.

Anyways, the video ended up on youtube briefly. After some pleading, she restricted it, much to my relief (see note about my self-consciousness above). Our three-year wedding anniversary is tomorrow. During that time, my self-esteem has grown, thanks to her and the friends I've made, both in and out of the brony fandom. The engagement video is once again accessible, and I decided to pass it along so others may enjoy."

    Ponies Appear in Ozfoxes

I remember reading Ozfoxes quite frequently back when I was in high school. Loved the comic and I'm glad to see they are still going strong today. Since those days they've apparently added in a pony reference in one of their strips. Small world isn't it?

Audio Drama Casting Call! Love In Kindness

    Game studio needs artists/writers/musicians

    Hello

We are a team called Canterlot Storytellers and we are creating a visual novel based on MLP called “Tales of Ponyville: The Lost Guardian”.

We are currently a team of two programmers/writers and we are searching for artists, musicians and writers.

We are currently working on two projects, A night in Ponyville (The game which is depicted in the picture attached) ANIP is our 'demo' where we explore how much we can do, and what our limits are.

The other project, the lost guardian, is our main project and will be the game most of our time will be invested in.

For a very quick presentation, this game will take place in Ponyville after the 6th season and will explore the existence of a 7th element of harmony linked to the Tree of Harmony itself. The game content isn’t decided yet, it will be discuss once all the team will be gathered, but it will heavily rely on multiple paths and endings. Just let us know what your preferences are, if you are more of an antagonist writer for example.

We are offering the following positions:

-Writers for these characters: We’d like to have at least two or three characters per writer to keep a consistency in the character’s behavior, your opinion will be also very important in the final story of the game.

-Visual Artist in charge of creating the vectors, the backgrounds and all the graphic resources. We’d like to have a visual style that is sticking to the show. As an artist, you will help visualising the story, and it's one of the most important jobs in the team.

-Musicians is in charge of creating the OST and sound effects. We believe that a game can’t be good without a good soundtrack. You will have a very decisive role in the final result.

If you are interested in any position, please send us an email at canterlot.storytellers@gmail.com with a quick presentation of yourself, the place you are applying for and some example of your work (It’s not compulsory but it would be greatly appreciated.) You can of course applicate for several positions.

On the other hand, if you don’t want to apply but are still interested in the project, you can follow us either by following our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/canterlotstorytellers/), Forum (http://canterlot-st.boards.net/) or join our Discord (https://discord.gg/EKgKNW4). We will keep you updated as much as possible.

Thank you for your interest, and please stay tuned!

    Pointless Ponies Update

Welcome to another Pointless Ponies Update. There are still two live surveys which will be active until August 13th. I am going to run the show at BronyCAN tentatively set for Friday, August 19th. In this update, I am going to drop some helpful hints to the survey questions to help you along.

    Survey #3: http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/2850155/Pointless-Ponies-3

Question 1 is self-explanatory. The best place to find the answers is Ponycons.com. Again, I'm looking for US States or Canadian provinces that have hosted a Brony convention since 2011. This excludes My Little Pony Fair since that is officially sponsored by Hasbro.

Question 2 is about the Bronies React videos by AC Racebest. Simply go to YouTube and search the Bronies React videos.

Watch "Luna Eclipsed" for Question 3 and "Scare Master" for Question 4.

Question 5 deals with the Chapter Books by GM Berrow. Just looking to fill in the blanks for the titles.

Question 6 deals with episodes in which at least four of the Mane Six do not appear in the episode. The MLP Wiki (mlp.wikia.com) is the best place to search character appearances.

The MLP Wiki can also be your guide for Question 7 as well.

Question 8 is any show or comic book staff that has ever appeared at a BronyCon. Ponycons.com has a tab for guests and their convention appearances.

    Survey #4: http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/2897108/Pointless-Ponies-4

Question 1 is like the first question in Survey #3, but it deals with those staged outside the US and Canada. Again, go to Ponycons.com.

Question 2 requires using this map: http://www.equestriadaily.com/2015/10/official-map-of-equestria-updated.html.

Go to imdb.com or Wikipedia to look up the parts to Question 3. Please note the dates if mentioned.

Answers for Questions 4, 5, and 6 can be found in the episodes mentioned or on the MLP Wiki.

I understand that these surveys are challenging, but then again, that's the point. There are no opinion-based questions on Pointless, all the questions are fact-based. The reason for the time limit is that I don't want you spending all day digging for the answers. The challenge is to try to come up with as many as you can think of in a given amount of time. Once time expires on a question, it automatically sends you to the next question, so please continue on.

With new episodes airing between now and August 13th, they could add answers to any question in Surveys 3 or 4. The reason there are two surveys live is that I can mix and match questions from either survey, or from the two past surveys. The questions used at BronyCAN and hopefully for Ponyville Ciderfest in October won't be known until the time of the game.

Hope the hints help and good luck with the surveys.

Feedback Needed on Different Styles for Miniature Game

Hello everyone, for the last few years I've been designing a competitive two-player wargame set in a steampunk fantasy world populated by talking animals. The game was mostly inspired by Warmachine/Hordes and is a culmination of my experiences from playing miniatures games competitively for nearly a decade. I showed off the game at a game designer event last weekend named Protospiel, and it received praise from publishers and playtesters for its unique theme and simple but deep ruleset. The game is planned to have acrylic or thick cardboard cutouts mounted on a base, and fit a niche scale between a skirmish and a full wargame (units are typically between 1-6 figures) It was also considered to be an ideal entry-level game into the genre and for parents who wish to play a wargame with their kids but still wanted a game that was deep enough for experienced players. Unfortunately, I have a difficult decision to make for the game's art direction. Which I've attached as a photo and would like your opinion on which you feel would be the most suitable. Note that although the characters are cute and expressive, the overarching story is meant to be taken seriously and is oftentimes quite dark. I'm looking for opinions on which would be the people's preference of the two styles, IGNORING that Style 1 is only sketched at the moment.

Style 1: Anthro style inspired by Zootopia. The benefits of this style over style 2 are that it may attract furries as a potential market but isn't furry enough that it alienates those who aren't. The environments are simpler to design, as not everything has to be designed for four-legged animals like in style 2. The characters are easier to pose and are better suited for fitting on a circle base if they are plastic miniatures, but also can have a greater variety of poses if they are illustrated. It is however much less original and would require me to scrap the original art, though this is the sunk cost fallacy.

Style 2: The protagonist species are inspired by ponies, but designed to look more like steampunk goats. However, this does mean that almost everyone who looks at them draws the comparison and may either think that they're cute and interesting or dismiss it because of the resemblance. In this art style the creatures' cities, weaponry, and furniture are all specially designed for four legged animals, creating a unique looking fantasy world. There are a few problems though, such as the characters needing a short ranged telekinesis to be able to manipulate tools and objects (no hands) and their poses are limited, too wide and the cutout won't fit on a base and if I went with plastic miniatures they may have a hard time fitting on the base

I would greatly appreciate any and all comments and what your preference would be between style 1 and style 2. Please vote here:
