For everyone confused (and part one won't help you out with that), I believe it's something like: Dash thinks she's reached her peak, performing a Rainboom and being with the Wonderbolts, so she attempts something even better. After failing it again, she reassures herself that she'll get it right in the future.

Is this the aftermath from the Sonic Rainboom episode and is Rainbow Dash trying to create a rainbow lightning but failed and tries again and again and again...

Personally I think Dash would probably invent some more insane tricks like that over time.

Perhaps the greatest fear some professionals face is the fear of reaching their peak too soon in their career, to inevitably toil in a downward fall for the rest of their lives. For Rainbow Dash, this had never been more than a niggling feeling in the back of her head. Not since the Best Young Flyers Competition however, after having fulfilled her lifelong desire to recreate the Sonic Rainboom from her childhood, after heroically saving both her best friend and her heroes, and spending a whole day with said heroes, did the very real and very daunting question question begin to creep in: "what now?" Most would be content with this triumphant moment, but for Rainbow Dash there was no down in her life. The fear of falling from the top is too great and even keeps her up at nights, ignoring nap time in favor of thinking up new moves, anything to keep from falling..."

I hate things like these where the monologue is all choppy and leaves out certain information. I mean, apparently I'm supposed to be able to infer the meaning and all, but I'm pretty sure I'm just not bright enough to read or something, because it always goes over my head.

ReplyDeleteOh oh oh!! It all makes sense. This is the Buccaneer Blaze, the one that she stated in episode 3, but we have never seen. Until now!!! She only perfected it in her fantasy. Never actually tried it. But after she did it, the Wonderbolts Jaws looked exactly like mine.

The limit to her greatness, and from there she can only go downhill; however, the storm inspires her to try just once more for something awesome. She does all kinds of badass rainbow lightningbolt stuff and fails, but in that she finds something new to strive for.
A peak not yet reached.

ReplyDeleteI'm a little surprised at how many don't understand this one. Everypony needs something to live for, to strive for. Rainbow Dash is comforted in failure because it means there are still challenges left to face and overcome.

ReplyDelete- don't let "Part 2 confuse you". there's no part 1 for Rainbow Dash, it's just part 2 of the "Time Off" comics. First is about Rarity.

I just happen to listen to Flogging Molly-The Lightning Storm. Not the best suited song for this comic, But it works. I think Man With No Country fits her better.

ReplyDeleteWhat I enjoyed mostly about this comic is that it wasn't straight forward. A message had to be understood first in order to be mostly appreciated, but once you do, it's simply... simply... There's not a word in dictionary that would come close to describing the greatness of this artwork.

ReplyDeleteAt first I didn't quite understand it, I was so taken back by the artwork that I couldn't really focus on what the comic was trying to get across. After reading it again though I understood it.
ReplyDeleteEven Rainbow Dash has doubts about herself from time to time, and sometimes the only way to overcome that is to push yourself to do even better and try something completely new and sometimes even dangerous. Dash was unwilling to let the Rainboom be the peak of her skills, and she had to prove to herself that she could go further and do better than the Rainboom.
And she did that, she proved to herself and to Fluttershy that her potential is limitless...and so freakin awesome it made my jaw hit the floor.
I think this is my favorite comic to come out of this fandom thus far. Perfectly captures the need for something to struggle for that someone like Dash needs.
