After the Diomedes Invasion and Princess Luna's dramatic repelling of it to save her kingdom and avenge her sister, everypony in Equestria is in mourning. They have no reason to question the official version of events. And even if they did, what would it change? Celestia, the only princess anyone has ever known, is dead and her sister has taken the throne even though she is nowhere near as good a ruler. In fact, Luna's reign proves to be not only not as good, but downright bad for some citizens. These include the Apple family, who have just endured the worst harvest in their entire history, whose finances are stricken by the taxes Luna just raised to pay for restoring Canterlot, and who might not be able to survive without help from friends. Unfortunately, as Applejack is coming to realise, her own growing bitterness over the cards life has dealt her may end the few friendships she has left.
