Princess Starlight is a BAD IDEA
    By: QuestionSeeker

"I don’t get why people want Starlight to become a princess/alicorn. Wouldn’t make sense from a toy standpoint given her overly similar color scheme to Twilight, Cadance, and Flurry Heart, and it’d be even weirder from a writing standpoint. What would she be the Princess of? What would suddenly make her more qualified than the rest of the Mane 6 and Sunset Shimmer to be one? Why would the writers spend 3 seasons rebuilding unicorn Twilight only to junk it all by giving her Twilight’s character arc?

Only reason I see it happening is either raw validation of the character or Hasbro mandate. People see that and I’m sure they’d be over the moon that the character they (controversially)  like is being acknowledged by the show as important (at least more so than normal). Either that or Hasbro really thinks that it’s worth making a slightly altered princess toy. Just letting you know now: if it ever does happen, the discourse around her character won’t magically disappear. If anything, it’d probably get worse. Twilicorn was despised for years, and that was with a fan favorite. You really want that again, but with the base-breaker character as the cause?"

    EQG is not necessarily canon
    By Fluttershypegasus

Many fans seem to believe that it is beyond doubt that EqG and FiM are part of the same canon. Indeed, even the show writers seem to have this personal opinion. However, I am here to argue that this may not be the case.

First, what evidence do we have to support the idea that EqG is canon? What comes quickly to most peoples' minds are tweets by the writers stating that they're part of the same canon. The problem here, however, is that tweets are not official-they are just, at the end of the day, opinions. Just because the head writers have their own personal opinion about what is canon does not make it valid-if a writer said on Twitter that a certain fanfiction was canon, that still would not officially be the case.

To say that this is just a criticism made by people who dislike the franchise is also a bad argument-I, for example, love many of the comic arcs, but I do not consider any of them canon.

So in conclusion, whilst I cannot definitively say EqG is non-canon, I don't think anyone can definitely say it is canon to the show. Unless EqG makes a very direct (and otherwise non-undersranble) appearance in the series, then whether it's canon or not depends very much on the viewer's perspective.

    Cutie Mark Mixed Messages

In “Marks and Recreation”, I like Rumble’s argument that having a mark means being stuck doing the same thing for the rest of your life, and him calling out AB for not remembering the last time she made potions with Zecora. This – and the haiku pony speaking haiku’s every time she opened her mouth really highlights that doing what you like- like painting circles or potion making gets put on the backburner when you have a cutie mark that’s something different. In “Call of the Cutie”, it was the CMC who stood up for themselves being blank flanks, even saying that it made them still full of potential! Twilight even called them lucky for still getting to experience who they are and what they’re meant to be. All this changed in “Cutie mark Chronicles”, thanks to Dash’s advice, which they’ve been doing ever since, and even now. Shame that the CMC continued to coerce ponies into getting their marks, instead of letting them get them at their own pace, whenever it comes. This just seems like the “try everything in as short amount as time as possible” mentality that RD put into AB’s head back in “cutie mark chronicles”.

Alicorns and Immortality: A Visit Back To an Older Thought

Hey everypony! A question that has been floating for some time now, is the wondering if Twilight is immortal as well now. Right?

We know that Celestia and Luna are immortal. What about Cadence? In the episode where we meet her (S2 E25&26) we see back into the past a bit, from when Twilight is a filly. By all calculations, by series premiere, Twilight and the rest of the Mane 6 are all grown adults. Now, the flashback shows Cadence as an alicorn and about the same size Twilight is in, so she had to have been alive long enough for such a thing to manifest as Celestia said in The Crystalling (S6 E1&2) that Flurry was the only natural-born alicorn she has ever seen. So, that being said, Cadence is either immortal or ages extremely slow. Faust’s statement that Twilight will not outlive her friends is either outright ludicrous, indicating a dark turn, or the alicornification of the Mane 6 as a whole. Either way, the statement isn’t official canon (yet, anyway), as it was never in the show and Faust is no longer heading the show. So wouldn’t it stand to reason Twilight is immortal too?

My Little Pony: The Movie - A Pointless Odyssey

Once again, the day is saved, thanks to the Powerpuff Girls-err the Mane Six! Twilight and her friends embark on a saga to take back Equestria from the villainous Stormy King by uncovering new lands, gathering new allies, and nurturing old friendships, wrapping it up in a neat bow made of songs and a redemption arc.  On paper, you would think that Equestria was under tyrannical rule and near total anarchy.  However, this is far from the truth.  In fact, there is a severe plot hole that contradicts any type of logic to even go on the quest.  The plot hole boils down to this: why do our heroes need to leave Equestria to find new allies when the Mane Six have seven seasons of friends to rely upon?

Since Faust's days, the core framework of the show has been 'Friendship is Magic.  Every season, the Mane 6 have built up that philosophy, both large and small.  Friendship lessons, Twilight's ascension, the Cutie Map, legends from folklore, and others examples prove that friendship 'is the most powerful magic of all.'

I can understand not wanting to have Discord.  The Spirit of Chaos is on a godly level and is a deus ex solution. I could even understand other kingdoms not informing the Princesses of the situation, as the Hippogriffs were in hiding and  Klugletown is the wild wild west.  However, none of that addresses the other kingdoms, such as Yakyakistan, the Crystal Empire, the Dragon Lands, Griffonstone, the Buffalo tribes, and the Changeling Empire not lending any hoof.  Not even notable individuals, such as Starlight Glimmer, were around.  This does not even address traveling to locations that they are familiar with!  How did that not occur to any pony once?

My guess, is that the overall plot of the movie was an isolated incident, like a tornado in the Midwest, .  Storm King surprised everyone in Canterlot, most of their allies are to the north, and none of their allies would know how to effectively combat him.  That said, that doesn't take into account the possibility of sending once of the pets or Starlight as a messenger to gather the allies while Tempest chases them, or to head north.  When you get into the gritty details, the severity of this plot hole makes you question how this was not addressed in the first drafts and if this adventure was even necessary.
