Check out these numbers:
"Saturday's "My Little Pony" Fan Favorites Mare-A-Thon (6-11 a.m. ET) significantly outperformed year-ago time period performances with impressive gains among Kids 6-11 (+165%), Kids 2-11 (+160%), Women 18-49 (+233%), Adults 18-49 (+168%), Persons 2+ (+174%) and Households (+178%)." -Zap2ItI'm not skilled in the art of TV ratings, but when it comes to percentages, I'm pretty sure breaking the 200's is a damn good thing. I wouldn't mind 200% more pony.
I guess we have a ton of new female bronies (or pegasisters, though that still hasn't grown on me). Welcome to the herd!

First?
ReplyDeleteYay. first
ReplyDeleteyay, I like more bronies.
ReplyDeleteIt's okay for adult females to like the show. I don't like Pegasisters (the term).
that's great though I expected males to top them all.
ReplyDeletethe ratings need to be about 200% cooler.
ReplyDeletePegasister is such a silly word...

ReplyDeleteJoker: "And here... we...... GO!"
200% cooler?
ReplyDeleteDon't like pegasister! Bronies forever!
ReplyDeleteWith numbers like this, I don't think the mare-a-thon was that little. Wow. I wonder if we can crash entire TV networks...not that I'd want that to happen. I mean, we've crashed websites, haven't we?
ReplyDelete*nudge* See that, Shout Factory?
ReplyDeleteWhy bother with being politically correct and using a different word for a fan of the show just because the fan's a woman? Just call all fans of the show "bronies".
ReplyDeleteI wish that attempted 'Official Ban' on 'Pegasister' during the last BronyCon happened, it was cut short before anyone could argue about it.
ReplyDeleteAt any rate, it's great to see the show break records outside the brony fanbase, more reasons to expand the franchise!
Those are some goddamn impressive ratings guys.
ReplyDeleteI move that we female fans call ourselves "cronies".
ReplyDeleteThat's good.
ReplyDeleteAs long as figures like this keep showing up, I think we can expect Hasbro and/or the Hub to keep making/airing this show.
I mean, we know season 3 is already confirmed, but at the rate we're going, it would be kind of idiotic for them to even stop there. I hope this show runs at least 5 or 6 seasons.
@Queler
ReplyDeleteCool story bro, want a medal for your outstanding achievement?
I don't call myself anything.
ReplyDeleteTo label myself as something is to simply make myself a tiny bit of a whole. This is unacceptable.
I am not a "brony" (a ridicuous term if ever I'd seen one), I do not "brohoof" (another ridiculous term), I am a fan of the show.
And I'll be that on my own terms.
@ZigZag
ReplyDeleteQuite a lot of people on that site that are not exactly fans.
Apparently labels are SRS BSNS
ReplyDeleteI hope mlp will last at least 10 seasons.
ReplyDeleteLeaks are good for rating. Put that into your statistics!
ReplyDeleteFantastic news! It's great to see the ratings jump like this.
ReplyDeleteI am also perfectly fine with whatever term anypony wants to apply to themselves. Brony, Pegasister, whatever.
Love and Tolerate.
This, my friends, is how a show gets seasons 4 and 5.
ReplyDeleteWay to go!
@Pegasus Rescue Brigade
ReplyDeleteEhhh... I wouldn't go that far, id rather have a meaningful end to the series than have it drawn out for longer than it should. After what happened to the Dexter series, id settle for an end by season 3 rather than a reanimated series going for 6+.
Or possibly, "lead mares". :)
ReplyDeleteWe refuse to use the term, "Pegasister."
ReplyDeleteWhen a "girls's show" isn't necessarily just for girls, then the term "brony" isn't just for men either.
ReplyDeleteThey also have these numbers on the source page
ReplyDelete"Kids 6-11 (+165%, 61,000), Kids 2-11 (+160%, 135,000), Women 18-49 (+233%, 40,000), Adults 18-49 (+168%, 75,000), Persons 2+ (+174%, 236,000) and Households (+178%, 136,000)."
If those numbers are anything to go by, the adults are quite a large chunk of the viewership. I bet once you count those who watch it through streaming, youtube, or iTunes, we might even be about half of the audience.
Not bad. Actually quite good.
ReplyDeleteEverypony be happy!
@mattwhite924
ReplyDeleteThat's assuming those numbers are the totals, and not just the numbers it grew by. My analysis is probably way off, but it's fun to speculate.
A Brand new Pony record!!!! ^_^
ReplyDeleteThis seems like great news!
ReplyDeleteNow the question is, how do we repeat these results or even outdo them.
*sigh* You are still calling it a leak... Early release by an official source is not a leak.
ReplyDelete@Sothalic That's a good point... the idea of the show "jumping the shark" for the sake of being on air is not a pleasing prospect.
ReplyDeleteHmm, that's quite interesting that they included the adult female numbers and the unisex adult numbers, but avoided the adult male demo. What are you hiding Zap2it?
ReplyDeleteI kid, of course. This is most excellent news indeed. The higher the ratings, the more likely it is to get more seasons, so woohoo. All the more impressive given how many watch it online.
Or "maremaids"... but that sounds like sea ponies.
ReplyDelete"Equafans", perhaps. The -a denotes gender without being obnoxious.
(I like the brony term, and "brothers" can include sisters in most Indo-European languages. But English doesn't usually, except in the historically neutral term "brethren". So I expect that some female fans will continue to want a different term available, while others won't care or enjoy a feeling of herd/family sibling solidarity more. Pegasis and pegasister are perhaps a bit blunt, but their longevity may make them stick around, at this point.)
@Suburbanbanshee ...that's not bad, actually! Shame "crone" hasn't got the most appealing connotations in the world... still, I consider myself in the "brony" regardless of gender camp.
ReplyDelete@Pawn Heart
ReplyDeleteMy Little Crony, My Little Crony...
Either they're witches, or they work for a corrupt politician.
I'm joking of course. Whatever term anypony likes is fine with me.
"I wouldn't mind 200% more pony."
ReplyDeleteCareful what you wish for...imagine how many e-mails you'd be getting if you suddenly got 200% more pony!
I'm a "female brony" but I like the term "pegasister" better. Calling us female bronies makes it seem like we're second to male bronies, which you can just call a brony. Pegasister gIves us our own identity :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing that they got such a ratings spike for the marathon itself when it started at 3 AM for much of the country, and no later than 6 AM for anyone with The Hub. Not so surprising that the new episode got a lot of viewers, though I'm surprised at the dramatic spike.
ReplyDelete@Shantara
ReplyDeleteThen... what is it?
@MyBoyJ How shall we three meet again? By scooter, foot, or stallion? when the loopdy-hooping's done, and cutie marks are still unwon.'
ReplyDeleteOh never mind, I'm reading it wrong. This is relative to the same time last year, not relative to other season 2 episodes. So it's just word of mouth and advertisement kicking in.
ReplyDeleteMLP seems like the highest rated show on the Hub. The Hub itself seems to still be having growing pains like most upstart cable channels.
ReplyDeleteBrony is a fine term. After all, if a group of girls are getting together, many times each greet the group by saying "hey guys". In fact I believe in the show at some point one of the mane 6 actually greeted the group with "hey guys". While Brony might be a term that started refering to male fans, it's still inclusive. I guess it's always been that way that the male noun can refer to either, while the feminine noun is exclusive to that gender.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe Pegasister = Feminist? Granted I don't mind if some females want to have their own exclusive term for fans, after all it was their show to begin with. I don't think a Brony and a Pegasister are exactly the same though.
Don't forget also that one viewer on the Hub is able to stream for thousands of internet-people.
ReplyDelete@Lupus Albus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGueFfWchkk
ReplyDeleteThe women demo is up because I converted my wife into a fan. Bwa ha ha!
ReplyDeleteI like "Equestria girl" as a title, or what-have-you, personally.
ReplyDeleteSo what's the general consensus for female MLP:FIM fans? Am I a Pegasister or a Female brony?
ReplyDeleteeven though the site i watch streamed the mare-a-thon, i watched it live. it feels so good to see that the show is getting epic ratings despite its times. heres to an hr of MLP after TF Prime everyday :)
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot more girl fans than you guys think.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see ponies doing so well!
@Suburbanbanshee Lots of great ideas! So, if brethren is neutral, then the portmonteau term could be "brennies"! But cronies is funny. We could write to Hasbro and say: "Hey Hasbro, me an' my cronies are here to make you an offer you can't refuse". All future pony cons will take place at little Italian coffee shops where we can quaff expressos while brushing the tails of our McDonald's Happy Meal ponies.
ReplyDeleteCall upon the maremaids when you're in distress! X^D
@Choco
ReplyDeleteJust 'early release'. It may not sound so sensational, but it was a minor mistake in iTunes store, not Anonymous hacking Hasbro and releasing episode on the 'Net...
@UT_Gal
ReplyDeleteWell, I would just call them/you a brony, unless requested otherwise.
In my humble and utterly worthless opinion, nobody is a pegasister or a female brony.
ReplyDeleteThey are all bronies.
@Pawn Heart
ReplyDeleteThat would be a quite strange interpretation of the CMCs. What with all the cauldrons and foreboding prophecies.
Pretty impressive numbers for the hub all around. I really wish I had The Hub so I could support them more. Seems like the Dans Vs series is pretty good to be pulling in those numbers. I've heard good things about it too.
ReplyDeleteAlso not to forget that these ratings don't include ages 12-17 which I believe will have a pretty good viewership judging by the number of teenage bronies.
ReplyDelete@Sothalic
ReplyDeleteI will have to disagree with you Sothalic, sorry. Think of it this way, regardless if the shown gets drawn out longer than it should, we still get all of our favorite banter between the characters that we have grown to love. Would you rather have the show just end after season 3 and know that you wont ever see anymore? Or have it be drawn on longer and know you still might get a good laugh now and then even though the story might get stale? To me it would be perfectly fine if the show ran for a very long time, as long they kept the original voice actors and didn't introduce to many unnecessary characters. Like I said, the story might get a bit boring, but the characters we have grown to enjoy would still be there doing their thing. So the longer it runs, the better I say.
Those statistics are completely meaningless to me, as I have no idea what they actually mean. Also, I really, really dislike the term Pegasister.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome to see, let's keep the ratings rising!
ReplyDeleteBrony is Gender Neutral.
ReplyDelete@mattwhite924
ReplyDeleteWondering if that was total viewers per bracket or the growth myself as well. Either way, just goes to show just how well the popularity is growing.
Here is an interesting thought, how many new viewers will be gained after the Mare-A-Thon? As while some might just be able to tune out an hour of a show, when you get 5 hours in a row of a show, you get beyond initial knee-jerk reactions. Couple that with the fact of people getting caught up by a marathon someone else was watching thanks to overhearing random lines or seeing random scenes.
@Miles
ReplyDeleteThe same was said about the Dexter series; no matter what would happen people would still like their vigilante sociopath... then Season 6 arrived, and the unspeakable happened. Now the show has two more seasons already planned, but no more reputation to speak of, as S6 completely obliterated it.
As a series go on, it becomes an increasing challenge to keep it entertaining, without breaking what made it good in the first place. It's almost like gambling; either you go on with higher expectations and greater risk of blowing it all up, or you pull off a wonderful end that immortalizes the series as a classic that will be loved for years to come.
Imagine MLP season 6, do you think the writers will be able to stick to the friendship report model for so long without pulling off a major change? Likely not, alternate Mane 6 (heck, the CMC are already getting flak for hijacking episodes), more Alicorns, different goals, any of these can crash the whole thing.
In my mind, 'Fate worse than Death' certainly applies to TV series, id rather see MLP end (remember: G5!) on a memorable end than drag on and on, but that's just me. Of course ponies will never stop being cute, but... do you really want to meet the fifth Alicorn of Nature, come to help the third generation Mane 6 in their quest to defeat Discord for the sixth time?
Brony, pegasister, whatever you want to call yourself! I shall brohoof ALL the pony fans! ^3^/)
ReplyDelete@Knuckleshy Pretty much what I was going to say. And try Dan Vs out, I find it to be the Hub's second best show, I thoroughly enjoy it and am glad it's also been getting good ratings. I just wish it had someone who was willing to upload the episodes as fervently as mlp episodes.
ReplyDeleteBeen "part of the herd" the day the 4th episode of season one aired and I saw things all over 4Chan and watched 1-4 that same day and become OBSESSED. Sure, there might be others (like my 4 friends who are girls who like it now because of me) but a lot of the time they never seem to get involved in the online community as much as the males do... which is odd. As far as I've seen them go is music on YouTube and the .MOV videos (which I told them about). I told them to get into ED, but they don't. o-o
ReplyDelete@Shantara
ReplyDelete"Early Release" means an intentional act, by the rights holder, to release the product early, whether it be a promotion, or a special event. It's an intentional act.
A "Leak" is when content is released to the public early, against the rights holders wishes. This can be due to theft, hacks, errors, misplaced or misfiled product, or any other form of action that allows the product to be released to the public earlier than the rights holder intended it.
Even HASBRO referred top this as a leak when they asked EqD not to link to it.
Also... FACEHOOFED HARD at your Anonymous hacking comment! LOLOL! Reminds me of a FOX News comment!
@SuperGiantRobot
ReplyDeleteHm, finally someone who agrees that all kinsd of "names" are ridiculous and dumb
"I guess we have a ton of new female bronies (or pegasisters, though that still hasn't grown on me)."
ReplyDeleteYou and me both! "Pegasister" is just horrible. Plus, it seems to go against the content of the show we all watch. It smacks of "You can't be a Brony because you're a girl." And I can't help thinking, jeez, what show was the person who came up with "pegasister" watching? Plus, honestly, it just sounds terrible.
Can we just accept that Brony is a gender neutral term, and that we won't catch cooties by letting girls into our super-special treehouse?
@Eddie PerkinsThe problem isn't that guys don't want girls to become "bronies", it's that some girl's don't want to be called or don't think they can be called "brony" because of the bro- prefix.
ReplyDeleteI agree that pegasister sounds silly and only divides community. It would be better if "brony" could be handeled as gender-neutral term
I wonder how many of those 200% were parents? Or does zap2it/HUB ignore them?
ReplyDeleteBut yay, 200% increase. Our numbers are growing.
Regarding the brony/pegasister thing, the original /b/ronies never imagined that we would be here today, so they can be forgiven for being a bit sexist.
We should try to find a new name, but only if we honestly think there is something wrong with the current one. We don't want a repeat of the derpy incident.
@Lupus Albus
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get to sleep that night. Stayed up, watched the Hub all night, including the marathon when it came up.
Though I don't know if my TV is one of those where ratings count.
I find it hilarious (in a sad kind of way) that the ones that feel outcast in this fandom about ponies, are the girls.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought of "brony" as gender neutral anyway.
When I saw "DOMINATES SATAM Ratings", the first thing I thought of was this:
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_(TV_series)
But yeah, I'm glad I played my part and watched the whole Mare-a-thon
@UT_Gal You are whoever you want to be. Personally I prefer brony since it's then generally understood given media coverage and all that that I like MLP:FiM, whereas Pegasister or anything else is just sorta... "You're a what?"
ReplyDeleteBesides, brony rolls off the tongue better. No need to specify female or not, just fans of the awesomeness that is pony.
@Sothalic
ReplyDeleteSome of the best comedies have gotten ~6 good seasons though, as long as they have a ton of characters and a fleshed out setting. Simpsons was great for 6-7 seasons (not counting S1) as was Seinfeld. If they survive the turnover in the writing team, actually do backstory for all of the introduced characters and get running on a few progression elements, I think this show can probably stretch that far. I'd rather they find out where the limits of the show are, and clear the way for the next generation, as long as they don't go on for a decade and a half past the expiration date like the Simpsons.
Teen Titans had five seasons. I think MLP can do the same, at least. As long as they don't have a last episode as monumentally stupid as Teen Titans' was...
ReplyDeleteMaybe the leak became more of a rallying point?
ReplyDeleteHope I'm not the only one that got up that early just to find out which one was the most loved, fan-favorite episode.
ReplyDeleteHope I wasn't the only one who was knocked out of their chair when they found out "Luna Eclipsed" won it. My favorite episode by far.
The ratings are frosting on a very big cake, I hope for a long and glorious future for the show.
Personally I have no problem with "Pegasister" or "brony" as a female fan. Trying to mix Sister and Pony would come out uh..."Siony" which sounds horrid. The best I can come up with is "Fillister" or "Little/big sister" but those are still weird really
ReplyDeleteGetting back on topic, I imagine this might convince Hub to run more "Mareathons" in future
I'm famele brony that match 18-49 category xD
ReplyDelete(but personally I hate 'pegasister' term... it sound stupid... can't 'brony' be used for all genders? )
And I'm amazed that there was more girls than guys in my category x'D
For all those asking why brony isn't gender neutral, It isn't just some guys not wanting girls to be bronies (if their are any to begin with). It's also girls who don't like to be called bronies due to the "bro" prefix. "guy" may have turned into a gender neutral term overtime, but "bro" remains male specific today.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't support to the Hub channel seeing that I don't got the station (nor having cable for that matter....) but these numbers have gone off the chart (if there is one). Surely this would bring attention to the producers and Hub tv ratings.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, please don't use that silly "Pegasister" term. lol Can't we just banish that term and whoever coined it to the moon already?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, those are some pretty nice numbers indeed. I didn't expect it to do quite so well.
The numbers posted in the comments would indicate that the huge 233% boost in Women 18-49 is mostly due to having much fewer to start with the previous year. Still, these are fantastic numbers. Even given my general distrust of the accuracy of projected ratings, this is still amazing.
ReplyDeleteI'm shocked when i do find girls like on the fan sites honestly but im only shocked when there like kids lol but i do say the ratio of male to female active fan is very un-even.
ReplyDeleteSweet, The women watched got tripled!
ReplyDeletePlease, someone come up with something better than pegasister; it's a stupid word.
ReplyDeleteHowever, as a woman, it is confusing to explain to people that I am a Bro-anything. People make too many assumptions from that, and the only embarrassing (to them) assumption I want them to make is that I am a grown woman who watches ponies.
Sweet Luna almighty, you ponies are picky as hell. Pegasister is an awesome word, and it has nothing to do with "political correctness", where on earth do you all get off on claiming that? Political correctness dictates that we DON'T differentiate between genders, and we'd have to use unisex terms instead of having separate terms that work just fine. Bronies are USUALLY male MLP fans. Pegasisters are USUALLY female MLP fans. Get over it, it has nothing to do with "discrimination" and everything with minimizing confusion when addressing groups. You want a unisex term so you can all shut up? Equisiblings. Equifans. Or how about something basic and obvious, MLP FAN.
ReplyDeleteLove and tolerance indeed, criticizing terms you don't like and wanting said terms banned. Sounds like some ponies here need a lesson or two in REAL equality and not this faux Liberalism crap permeating the manestream society.
But why guys? Why can't "Brony" be a unisex term? I always assumed it was.
ReplyDeleteAt long last we female bronies are acknowledged!! Oh! In the words of Princess Luna: "HUZZAH!!"
ReplyDelete@Altherix
ReplyDeleteDon't worry you weren't I got up at 6 AM and it was worth it
@Kagemaru6613
ReplyDeleteI know Teen Titans was a good show but the last episode was horrible, and I agree with others that don't want this to go forever at the risk of becoming terrible, I think 6 seasons tops would be good, but 4-5 seasons would be fine with me
So, um, getting back to the whole We Heart Ponies mare-a-thon....
ReplyDeleteCould anyone please point me to the list of the episodes that won the Hub's poll? I saw the list of nominated episodes, but I haven't been able to find the list of winners. If the list is in the order that they aired in the mare-a-thon, that would be even better. Thank you.
I consider myself a brony xD I don't like pegasister. I prefer brony over that any day XD WOO BRONIESSSS
ReplyDeleteI just want to say I like the term Brony, because it sounds friendly. Pegasister is narrower, perhaps, but I can't say I'm bothered by it, it still all sounds like family to me.
ReplyDeleteBrony is a unisex term, but then some female fans wanted to call themselves pegasisters to differentiate from the 'guys'.
ReplyDeleteAnd I dislike both pegasister and brony. I prefer the boring term of 'fan of friendship is magic'.
Also, alot of female collectors (The ones that are fans of the MLP toys since the 80s) also watch Friendship is Magic.
ReplyDeleteI'm a girl, and I typically just refer to myself as a Brony.
ReplyDeleteIf I must be gender-specific, I tack a "she" to the front of it, so I'm a She-Brony. =P
Thanks for the contribution, Herb Finn. The dialogue is fun.
ReplyDelete
