IF YOU GUYS DO IT FOR FREE I WILL HATE YOU. It may be Ashleigh but don't fawn over her and bend to her every will. Treat this as a normal job and be proffesional about it.!
yea, i may be a brony, and if it was "actually" applejack asking for my help, i would gladly oblige (being that meant a free trip to ponyville, im in).....but this is a VA "using" her fans...i have no respect for her.....Rarity for best pony...not applejack.
If you guys give her shit over asking us for help, the Brony references in the tweets will stop altogether. It's tricky, first the iOS app, now this, but they have every right to ask.
I'm sure there's an art student out there who would jump at the opportunity for resume-filling work.
I'm all for working with the VA's and keeping the community close, but this just makes me feel like we're being used. I'm just glad I'm not the only one who see's that.
Uhhh... I think you're taking it a bit far, im pretty sure the person will be getting paid, and if not, hey, recognition is enough, no? 'Using' her fans... come on, who wouldn't want to help in that case?
Crowdsourcing is the best way to get what you need, as long as you have a legion of fans. I see nothing wrong with her asking the brony fandom for art, since there's thousands of artists that could help her.
Besides, I'm sure the artists would enjoy doing something other than pony and have an opportunity to help someone they admire/like. Plus, you're getting 'paid' for it in a way, with the Swag. Also, the love.
I don't know that I can call this "taking advantage". It depends on what they need/want the person involved to do, and if that person thinks their time is worth the stuff they get. It's their decision, if they get involved.
I'd probably be willing to help myself, for free, if I had the time and if I were a pixel art animator, just because I like doing things for people in general (not just because I'm a fan of theirs).
Pixel Artists you say? Well, I happen to have links to a slew of DeviantArt groups dedicated to pixel art: http://pixel-artists.deviantart.com/ http://pixcellentartists.deviantart.com/ http://pixel-dorks.deviantart.com/ http://pixel-me-up.deviantart.com/ I hope that this was of some assistance.
Guys, remember that Hey Ocean is a small, non-professional band as well. They need help and this is their best way of getting it.
I can totally see the "don't let them use you for free" argument -- but unless you're a professional artist, pretty much all your artwork is free anyway, right? I'm sure anyone willing to help Hey Ocean is capable of judging whether they feel like they're being used or not.
I would not bend to seths will but i would bend to Ashleigh will. And @Kewpa makes a good point. They never said they wouldn't pay and plus free stuff and recondition.
Considering how much content this community generates for the sheer pleasure of creating something, I'm sure she'll find somepony willing to help for a tangible reward.
I remember when she asked for help from the bronies to make a program for her band or something? It was on Equestria Daily, but I don't recall ever finding out if she got any help, does anybody know?
I think its okay for her to ask for help because she has stated from the beginning that she looked at people who watched the show in a positive light instead of being uncofortable. She has also gone to Bronycon which counts for something right?
It's times like this that I wish I could do more types of art than on my deviantART. As I don't specialize in pixel art or animation. It's too bad, for me the real reward is helping someone that has helped form the show that we all love. But...If you ever need a MLP Crossover Artist... *raises eyebrow as I imply* :D
What's this, a small-time band asking for potential help from someone willing to donate a small bit of time and skill to do some pixel art in exchange for merch? Oh the humanity, quick let's all go on a tizy about how violated this blatent usery should make us feel!
Seriously, to those of you complaining; get over yourselves. You don't have to do it if you don't want to. If someone does, let them. Not a big deal.
Are we seriously bitching about Ms. Ball asking us for help?
Wow... you know, I'm all for being paid for doing something if I am a professional at it, but she's just reaching out and asking for help? What happened to our charitable spirit from the Humble Brony Bundle and Project Smile? Have we forgotten what we are about as a fandom?
If you don't want to help, then don't. But don't call her an asshole for asking for help. That's just wrong, and it goes against everything we stand for.
I imagine they want pixel art for their iOS app. But seriously, if someone asks for help, don't get all upset and throw insults. If you don't feel generous, you don't have to do it.
What's with all the anger? She's not asking you to become her slave. All she's asking for is a pixel artist, and decided to go to her fanbase rather than elsewhere. If she's taking advantage of anything, it's that she knows she has a talented fanbase so why not use it.
And she hasn't named a price yet? Preposterous! This goes against everything our Capitalist society stands for! You know who does help other people without asking for anything in return? Communists, that's who! You're all filthy Communists!
On one hand, she's asking the Brony community to do something that's not even remotely Brony related.
However it is going to be displayed by he band and seen by a wide audience. Free publicity for your art stuff plus swag can be considered a form of payment.
As the developer of the Adjustable Scale of Moral Standards, I'm okay with this. This doesn't rank low.
It's not like she's asking Bronies to weed her garden, reshingle her roof, and reglaze the bathtub in her house she's about to sell... You know, to make it 20% more appealing on the market and possibly make her 20% more profit.
That'd be significantly lower...
Lower still would be hiding bodies or being an accomplice to a burglary... That'd be downright (Madame LeFlour) DEE-SpicAble! (/Madame LeFlour)
@Pele2048 I would weed her garden, reshingle her roof, and reglaze the bathtub for free, just for the honor of serving the lovely Ashleigh! *Spike-level dedication!*
I'm joking of course. I'm way too lazy and greedy. >:3
I love how people are getting pissed at the VAs using the Bronies as their "personal army" and shit, but seriously, they're only asking for help. Not everyone is proficient in everything, especially bands.
If someone is willing to contribute/donate their work to them when they ask, then so be it. It's not like they're slaving us over a hot stove and whipping us into submission.
Also note, they aren't a worldwide-popular band (yet), so they're probably tight on funds what with their whole tour and everything costing probably a wholesome amount of funds.
There are a number of factors that could apply to this type of situation. Please be mindful, Bronies.
Well let's see here on one hand we have someone that helps create one of our favorite shows asking for help, and on the other hand they are offering a reward in merch(which can be expensive if you didn't know) as well as recognition in both fans of the band and the show....wait what's the problem here again?
I don't see the problem with this. She's part of a product that we get for free, so why is it shocking that she asks for something in return? Her voice makes us happy, so why not return the favour and make her happy?
This. Also, lets not forget that this is Hey Ocean asking Hey Ocean fans for some community style assistance. The connection is not in any way far-fetched.
Off course, many of us Hey Ocean fans first found the band via bronyism, but that's another story. :)

ReplyDeleteOh cool!
ReplyDeleteAnd will someone who's a good artist help them out already.
ReplyDeleteI pixel art! And I love Hey Ocean!
ReplyDeleteWere totally being used but I'm okay with this.
ReplyDeleteYes Mistress Applejack.
Bronies to the Rescue!
ReplyDelete"We are not your personal army!"
ReplyDelete"I got nothing better to do today, and they seem nice. Plus, Swag!"
"But it's the PRINCIPLE of the thing!"

ReplyDeleteIt seems Ms. Ashleigh is getting better and better at the control of the Brony Force; she used even a reference! Master technique, I must say.
ReplyDeleteAT ONCE, MY QUEEN.
I can't do fraggin crap.
ReplyDeleteIF YOU GUYS DO IT FOR FREE I WILL HATE YOU.

ReplyDelete@Shadow Heart nope your not Seth is always first

i wanna a luna plushi in life size and iam fine XD
ReplyDelete"20% Cooler" is the Brony equivalent of the Bat Signal.
ReplyDeleteForget the swag, I want her to make me a personalized Applejack voice-mail message.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for working with the VA's and keeping the community close, but this just makes me feel like we're being used. I'm just glad I'm not the only one who see's that.
ReplyDeleteNot nice, Ms. Ball.

@MailMareDeroy
ReplyDeleteHow is getting free stuff and recognition being used?
Whoever does this will be able to say "Hey Ocean! uses my pixel art, isn't that awesome? Rainbow Dash/AJ's band uses MY art! HECK YEAH!"
That sounds like reward enough to me. After all, this community should be pretty well known for its acts of charity by now.
@MailMareDeroy
ReplyDeleteShe gives us the voices of Applejack and Rainbow Dash every week, it's the least we could do to help her out with a pixel artist.
Also, that's not how you spell Rainbow Dash
@lesserpoet
ReplyDeleteShe's just asking for some help, calm down.
@Kewpa
ReplyDeleteCouldn't of said it better myself.
Who needs money when you're getting YOUR OWN ART recognized by one of the best show's VA?
Recognition gets you places. It's just a different type of currency.
@ramoberleyI'm perfectly calm, mate. Not trying to tear down the walls, just stating how it makes me feel. Not angry, just wary.

ReplyDelete@WaffleSmart
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't give us anything, they pay her...
Considering how much content this community generates for the sheer pleasure of creating something, I'm sure she'll find somepony willing to help for a tangible reward.
ReplyDeleteI love arguing morals on the internet.

ReplyDelete@Metallicflare
ReplyDeleteI think it was just a "heads up," and they didn't need them immediately. Just harvesting emails and browsing potential suitors.
It's pretty simple:
ReplyDelete>Looking for pixel artist (fanbase)
>Rewarded with merchandise, recognition, and love.
Straightforward and simple. Not sure why people are arguing about this...
@Discord
ReplyDeleteNo kidding old man
@MailMareDeroy
ReplyDeleteRecognition is the best reward
For the people who are saying she is "using us". She does not demand it. She asks for help from fans of her work. How is that not normal?
ReplyDeleteIt's times like this that I wish I could do more types of art than on my deviantART. As I don't specialize in pixel art or animation.

Ms. Ball is quite clever, it seems. She's making good use of the thousands of talented, loyal fans.
ReplyDeleteWhat's this, a small-time band asking for potential help from someone willing to donate a small bit of time and skill to do some pixel art in exchange for merch? Oh the humanity, quick let's all go on a tizy about how violated this blatent usery should make us feel!

Yeah, come on guys. Really? Sadly I can't help. I'm no pixel artist.
ReplyDeleteI'd do it. It would be a great way to get your name out there. Don't be hatin' on our friends from the show, thats bad form.
ReplyDeleteWhooooo Ashleigh!!!! you are awesome. Wish I could help....
ReplyDeleteI wonder what she wants...
ReplyDeleteI imagine they want pixel art for their iOS app. But seriously, if someone asks for help, don't get all upset and throw insults. If you don't feel generous, you don't have to do it.

No 'CHAAARGE' tag?
ReplyDeleteBlasphemy!
lol.
...I wish I had the skill set they're looking for, or at least enough time to acquire it.
@Pele2048 I would weed her garden, reshingle her roof, and reglaze the bathtub for free, just for the honor of serving the lovely Ashleigh! *Spike-level dedication!*

I'm a pretty good Pixel Artist, but... What do they need a good Pixel Artist for in the first place? XD
ReplyDeleteI wish I had more information on that...
Haha, smart move.
ReplyDeleteApplejack asking for help!?
ReplyDeleteGuess she did learn here lesson after "Applebuck Season"! Bless my soul!
Well let's see here on one hand we have someone that helps create one of our favorite shows asking for help, and on the other hand they are offering a reward in merch(which can be expensive if you didn't know) as well as recognition in both fans of the band and the show....wait what's the problem here again?
