Yay, just from the title and mention of it being a great comic, I already knew it was Calvin and Hobbes before the image even loaded. Hopefully there will be more to this one.
And poor Derpy, she's just curious about Luna's magical mane.
In my mind's eye, I can see Twilight imagining she's a dinosaur, as a brave space explorer captive on an alien ship, using a cardboard box to transform herself, and being tackled everyday upon coming home. It's adorable.
I like "Mane-tenance"'s joke, but I think it could have been more succinct. The three preceding panels ultimately don't contribute to the joke, and they're pretty static, too. The artist can save his/her time and effort by aiming for more efficient storytelling techniques; comics are strange that way.
#2 made my life. As a literal life-long fan of the comic, anytime a reference is made to C&H I immediately dissolve into a puddle of squee and nostalgia.
@Tears of a Valedictorian My dad bought my sister and me the box set a few years ago because he knew how much we loved C&H when we were growing up. It was an incredibly thoughtful gift and I love how the strips look on the glossy paper, but at the same time, I feel like I can only treat it as a collector's item --can't read it propped up on the kitchen table while eating breakfast, which is how I usually read the paperback anthologies, lol.
The first one is very punny indeed. The second... oh man, having read the complete C&H, I can't help but love any reference to it. It's just so good to remember and savor.
Yeah, there needs to be a lot more Calvin and Hobbes parodies. I like ones where they just take the original panels and change the words to refer to ponies.

ReplyDeletematurity is not forever... >.>
ReplyDeleteNever would've thought FiM/Calvin & Hobbes. Wow.
ReplyDeletePoor Derpy, she looks so sad... I know! ~goes over to her and brushes her mane~ =3
ReplyDeleteI love the calvin and hobbs style for 2. They look so cute... Wait what are they... oh no joe... no... no...
Lol Ditzy. you're great.
ReplyDelete#2: Calvin and Hobbes style. *squee* So cute.
@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeleteTechnically it can be touched... Pipsqueak pulled her mane and tail in the episode...
Why would you NEED to brush that mane? Look's like it's straightening out by itself.
ReplyDeleteLove the second cartoon.
ReplyDeleteI bought the complete Calvin & Hobbes box set recently. It weighs about 90 pounds and is pretty much my most treasured possession now.
^THIS GUY is my hero
ReplyDeleteCalvin and Hobbes Foreeeevuuuuur
Pony Calvin and Hobbes. Best Crossover EVER!!
ReplyDeleteOh, Calvin and Hobbes. The memories. Now I'm all nostalgic. If you'll excuse me, I need to go read the twelve Calvin and Hobbes books I have.
ReplyDeletehahahahahahahaha I love you Calvin and hobbes. Oh how i love that comic series. <3 best.
ReplyDeleteCalvin and Hobbes was the best comic as a kid. Even if I probably didn't get it half the time.

ReplyDelete1.I'm pretty sure an alicorn's mane evolves and while it can be brushed it probably isn't needed.
ReplyDeleteAlso the muffin queens costume was glorious.
2.Calvin and hobbes... even adults aren't mature sometimes.
Twilight and Smarty Pants.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't have quite the same ring to it.
I still think Calvin and Hobbes was the greatest comic ever.
ReplyDeleteYay, I can stay!
ReplyDelete@Tears of a Valedictorian
ReplyDeleteClearly you've never owned a CO2 lazer, lol.
But yeah, Calvin and Hobbes stuff comes close.
Yay Calvin and Hobbes! I love them!
ReplyDelete"I'm home!"
ReplyDelete*SmartyPants tackles Twi to the floor*
"WHY DO YOU ALWAYS DO THAT"
Looks like I shall remove myself from EQD forever.
ReplyDeleteLol nope, I'm gonna stay, even if I don't know the original for #2.
#2 is cute.
ReplyDeleteTwi and Calvin is so good I love it
ReplyDelete@Stahi
ReplyDeleteReally? At this point, I consider all crossovers inevitable.
I love anything that even vaguely references Calvin and Hobbes. It may even be my favorite thing of all time (sorry ponies).
ReplyDeleteI'ma hafta dig out the old comic books!
ReplyDeleteAnd that last panel in the second comic is so adorable. :3
@Mike
ReplyDeleteHaha, wow man, those things look pretty intense.
You can't curl up on a sofa with a CO2 Laser on christmas day though. Well you could, but it'd be weird.
That wasn't a parody of Will Eisner's The Spirit. Nor was it a parody of the Army of Darkness comics...it was Calvin and Hobbes, correct?
ReplyDeleteI would love it if there were more Twilight/Smarty Pants C&H crossovers. Get on it, talented community.
ReplyDelete1. Oh that Mane
ReplyDelete2. Calvin and Hobbs artist I think? Oh well it's adorable.
Veggie finally found something that looks good with derp eyes.
ReplyDeleteIt's Hobbes, people. With an 'e'!
calvin and hobbes! best comic ever! :D
ReplyDelete#1 Derpy is best pony. (Dat mane)
ReplyDelete#2 So cuuute /)^3^(\. I guess it's another reference that I don't get.
@D. Shadows
ReplyDeleteEeyup. Even adults who watch My Little Pony can be childish.
HOLY-
ReplyDeleteTHAT BANNER
Calvin and Hobbes is BEST comic. The comics were very inspirational.
ReplyDeleteYay, just from the title and mention of it being a great comic, I already knew it was Calvin and Hobbes before the image even loaded. Hopefully there will be more to this one.
ReplyDeleteAnd poor Derpy, she's just curious about Luna's magical mane.
#1 Awww, Derpy looks so disheartened in the last two panel's in this comic. And brushie brushie, Luna. :3
ReplyDelete#2 Ah, Calvin and Hobbs. I was worried I wasn't getting the reference. But I was guessing that based on the style it's in. :P
How DOES she brush it?
ReplyDelete...is it even tangible?
Ah, that second comic takes me back to simpler times... and Spaceman Spiff!
My life is now complete.
ReplyDeleteIn my mind's eye, I can see Twilight imagining she's a dinosaur, as a brave space explorer captive on an alien ship, using a cardboard box to transform herself, and being tackled everyday upon coming home. It's adorable.
ReplyDeleteCalvin and Hobbes <3

ReplyDeleteDerpy asks the questions we would never think of.
ReplyDeleteI has to agree with Seth... C&H was (and still is) one of my all-time favorite comics!
ReplyDeleteDat Derpy... Luna looks like she's about to snap.
#1 is hilarious, and Derpy is adorable like that. #2 is amazing. Anything with Calvin and Hobbes is amazing. That is all.
ReplyDelete#2 made my life. As a literal life-long fan of the comic, anytime a reference is made to C&H I immediately dissolve into a puddle of squee and nostalgia.

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that Calvin and Hobbes hasn't dropped down the memory hole. That really was one of the best comic strips of the 1980's.
ReplyDelete#2 is... ohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh!
ReplyDeleteThose are some awesome comics!
ReplyDeleteThe first one is very punny indeed.
ReplyDeleteThe second... oh man, having read the complete C&H, I can't help but love any reference to it. It's just so good to remember and savor.
C&H are always awesome, and #2 proved the power of references. DAT ART STYLE.
ReplyDelete#1 was good too.
1. Derpy, you read our minds. :D
ReplyDelete2. Calvin and Hobbs? Excellent!
Am I the only one who thinks Luna 2.0's neck is....weirdly thick?
ReplyDeleteCalvin and Hobbes...I think that's every comic now that has been touched by pony. So Awesome!
ReplyDelete@Stahi
ReplyDeleteFiM + EVERYTHING
Yeah, there needs to be a lot more Calvin and Hobbes parodies. I like ones where they just take the original panels and change the words to refer to ponies.
ReplyDelete@megantron
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, it's way less practical than my beaten up old paperbacks (which were thrown out by mistake recently. We don't speak of this).
But I kind of love how it's a book that you have no choice but to read while reclining on a sofa. There's literally no other way to read it.
"And a parody of the best comic series ever below. For those that don't know what that is, feel free to remove yourselves from EQD forever.
ReplyDelete(I kid)"
I don't kid. You don't know what that comic is in reference to, you need to remedy it. NOW.
Calvin and Hobbes! :D
ReplyDeleteIt's calvin and hobbes seth!
ReplyDeletePlease don't boot me
What is this... "brushing" you speak about?
ReplyDeleteAeterial mane fixes itself!
Loved the Calvin & Hobbes reference. My full respects for you
