Sagebrush and "B." have released a ridiculously extensive brony dictionary covering everything from fillyfooler to Spitfire. I have posted stuff similar to this in the past, but this one pretty much covers every single aspect of the community and then some.
You can find it below!

We're open to suggestions for new words, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Seth, for the speedy upload!
It's not taking itself seriously. Therefore it is awesome.
ReplyDeleteBoredom.
ReplyDeleteThat's kinda cool. :)
ReplyDeleteBaltimare hum... I should consider calling it that from now on for the heck of it... >_>
ReplyDeletedumb fabric.
ReplyDeleteit was matter of time
ReplyDeleteMore of an encyCLOPedia, but okay.
ReplyDelete"Friendship - n.
ReplyDelete1. Magic."
Well that's... distilling.
Surely it's worth mentioning that apple pie is delicious?
ReplyDelete@B.
ReplyDeleteas a transgender may i petition for the inclusion of "fencebucker" which is rapidly becoming the term for my kind on Ponychan
Nice compilation.
ReplyDeletemissing:
"Foal" - Euphemism for "Fool"
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteShould we be calling you a Brony or a Filly?
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI don't mean any offense with my comment, just so we're clear
@"Fencebucker" Anonymous
ReplyDeleteCertainly!
@"Foal" Anonymous
Actually, Nightmare Moon was calling the ponies children, not fools. It's kind of a double pun in that way.
-_-
ReplyDeleteInformative! Especially the entry for Gyrobowl. I never knew what that meant.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Anonymous in that this seems more like an encyclopedia than a dictionary, but this is awesome nonetheless. Love it!
ReplyDeleteBon Bon's name isn't fanon, is it? She's from a previous generation.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteMmm, if it got mentioned in an episode etc. we'll change it. I can't remember offhand if it did actually =/.
YOUR MISSING "18661" and "Pony Deen"!!!!
ReplyDelete@Dave Mustang, the cynical Brony
ReplyDeleteBrony is ok as it's largely neutral anyway. Filly is +1 make me happy. Fencebucker is also a correct term.
@Gypsy
ReplyDeleteAh, the nightmare of Flaskgarg.
Well... many things are wrong and contradict with the show even, but otherwise it's.. bearable.
ReplyDeleteGood job for collecting all the data into one doc.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteOkay. I was sorta hoping for a filly to brony because I've never met somebody like that, but I'm still happy for you.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteCare to elucidate those discrepancies? We'll be happy to take a look.
I was under the impression that it was Poison Joak not Joke.
ReplyDeleteSooo Awesome! *Rainbow Dash voice*
ReplyDeleteTo me it seems like this is a very good blend of serious and comedy mixed into one. It has a fair amount of information that if actually being used for the intended purpose of looking up coined brony terms then it would be helpful, but enough inside jokes that it makes it still worth reading through.
ReplyDelete@B. More words? How about 'explosion'?
ReplyDeleteFew suggestions that come to mind that I didn't see in there:
ReplyDeleteThe Shadowbolts
Moondancer (Canon pony from early ep 1)
Combos (more than one Pinkie twitch at once)
and maybe some silly ones
Da Magiks
Number 25 (mustache magic)
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteOh man, yes.
@Anonymous
ReplyDelete-n
1. May or may not happen twice.
@sagebrush oh man ima miss him lulz i also got banned ahaha, OH and scootameme! scootawhere scootayou scootatalk scootalike scootathis
ReplyDeleteAt first I was like "Why is Explosion on here twice?"
ReplyDeleteAnd then I put on my Dash face. /)^3^(\
This is as much of a joke as it is an encyclopedia. Not sure it's can be qualified as a dictionary.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyable, nonetheless.
Well, I be darned.
ReplyDelete>I have posted stuff similar to this in the past<
ReplyDeleteI never saw a post to another dictionary. When do you posted it?
I lol'd at the exploding twice.
ReplyDeleteI for one like the entry for "Rock"
ReplyDeleteRock
1. Rarity's destiny
2. See "Fabric"
Fabric
1. Dumb
Damnit. I was going to post "man, I thought this dictionary idea was so fabric" but with Calnos having posted the definition my joke just seems so flat. Damn that brony.
ReplyDeleteSmall issue with the "Twilight Flopple" entry, since Spike never actually calls Twilight by that nickname.
ReplyDelete@JPS
ReplyDeleteWatch the scene again-I promise you he does. It's at the very end of it, as the ponies walk out the door.
Going through the doc and adding suggestions here as I see issues pop up.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking pretty good, but I noticed that in the Canterlot entry, "capital" was misspelled and should not be capitalized ("Capitol" refers only to a government building like the one in D.C., basically The Capitol is in the capital, you see). Pardon my being a spelling nazi.
Species (Earth, Pegasus, Unicorn) wasn't listed for some of the pony entries. It'd be nice if all the named ponies in this thing had species listed.
Don't forget that the Grand Galloping Gala is ALWAYS awful.
I hope you were making a bad joke in entry 2 of Flutterguy (since it's really Blu Mankuma in Fluttershy's body)
An actual definition for Scootabuse would be nice (we all know what it is, and no one likes to talk about it, but you've gotta tell somebody, keeping it hidden only makes it worse).
Spike didn't give a canon nickname to Twilight when she was "cursed" by the poison joke, in fact he said he couldn't work with her name. "Twilight Flopple" is fanon.
There needs to somehow be an entry for "20% cooler".
Great work so far! :)
I think I've gotten a different definition of a couple words than you have.
ReplyDeleteUsually when I see coltcuddler or fillyfooler, I don't think of the genders as much as the ages involved. I've only heard them used in reference to pedofillya. For instance, if Trixie were doing naughty things with Snips and Snails in her wagon, she'd be a coltcuddler.
@Ozark Brony
ReplyDeleteCapital/Capitol - You're absolutely right- fixed.
Species- That's a thing I might do in a later version of the dictionary. What race they are doesn't really matter to who the character is, imo.
Grand Galloping Gala is always awful indeed-I think we felt that was summed up well in the whole "crushing dreams bit"
Flutterguy-Bad jokes are my specialty.
Scootabuse-No. That is where I draw my personal line.
Flopple-See the comment just above yours.
20% cooler-Possibly! We'll see!
Great work-Thanks!
@BronyMike
ReplyDeleteAll of the fics I've seen "fillyfiddler" in use it as a term meaning Lesbian. Usually in shipping fics which I tend to stay out of, but the few I've read use that term.
Random
ReplyDelete1. See "Pinkie Pie"
Pinkie Pie
3. Excuse for all improbable things.
@B.
ReplyDeleteHe's right. After Flutterguy asks if he's coming, he says "Nope. Gotta stay here and look for a cure. Twilight Flopple!"
Can someone PLEASe explain the entry for "It"? I thought ti was a Stephen king joke but then you started talking about telescopes...
ReplyDeleteAnd @B/ What's so bad about defining the term Scootabuse? We're not asking for graphic examples, and you don't have the like the term to define it
@The Lord of Ábrocen Landmearca
ReplyDeleteWatch Look Before You Sleep again.
I think most people can figure Scootabuse out from the name.
Another couple things:
ReplyDeleteYou mention CMFIS before you see the definition for it, so readers trying to find the definition there might get lost (Like I did while looking up that term). Maybe add "CMFIS: See Cutie Mark Failure Insanity Syndrome" as an entry.
Doctor Whoof/Whooves: It's Doctor Who, not Dr. Who. Far as I've gathered from fans of the show it's usually spelt out in full.
All the entries starting with "Fr" should come after "Foal", not before "Flank". Alphabet, people.
Also, just to let you know, this thing is hilarious, and yet at the same time informative and pretty professional. Mad props. I think maybe some pony body parts should be mentioned, á la http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/06/pony-body-part-chart.html, since many of them pop up in Art of the Dress.
Oh, that too. Maybe add entries for some song names.
Ha, fuck I think we broke the link.
ReplyDeleteI was disappointed there was no entry under Chicken
ReplyDelete@BronyMike Good point. It is ALWAYS "Doctor Who", never Dr. Who - keep in mind that the character is known almost exclusively as "The Doctor" and almost never as "Dr. Who" a couple of very early episode in the sixties not withstanding.
ReplyDelete@BronyMike
ReplyDeleteI made the fixes you suggested. Nice eye on the Fr thing. I think I messed up once and then just rolled with it instead of noticing the error.
Baked Bads
ReplyDeleteBridlemaids
Jews- exploded for no reason
Herd
Mareiam-Websteed Dictionary
Muffin
Party
Pinkie Pie Promise
Sasparilla
Sethisto
>Pony Charm
ReplyDeleteIneffective on dragons.
Unless you're Spike. =)
>>> Buzzard -n.
ReplyDelete1. Birds which, contrary to popular belief, can actually buzz.
@BCamp
ReplyDeleteOops, wrong account usage.
Informative document by the way. A few words I didn't understood nor heard about.
Learn something new everyday.
Gilda -PN
ReplyDelete2. A meanie mean pants and a thief
Secret
1. Butt fun
Mustache
1. Sweeeeeet
"X" was funny...
ReplyDeleteI rofled at that one.
Missing Daisy, Rose and Lily. :(
ReplyDeleteBuck + A drug in Fallout: Equestria.
ReplyDeleteDash - See "Buck", (Rainbow Dash)
Celestia + may or may not be a tyrant.
Complaining
Foam Finger
Lauren Faust
Moustache - sweet.
Pills
Punch - has been spiked
Stampede - See "Buck", frightened cows, bushels of brand-new bouncing baby bunnies.
Whining
@Cyl
ReplyDeleteBanjo - n.
1. The only answer.
Xylophone - n.
2. What Pinkie Pie was missing.
Zombies - n.
1. Not very likely
This is brilliant! I read it, and I lol'd.
ReplyDeleteI highly contest the effectivity of Pony Charm on dragons. Neither Spike nor the big red one were immune, the latter was merely angered by blatant gold-digging.
ReplyDelete"Pinkie Sense" def made me cry from laughter.
ReplyDeleteI'm half-way through. Fantastic, very well done!
ReplyDeleteHum, you're missing ‘fillies and gentlecolts’. It appears to mean ladies and gentlemen and it’s used in Friendship is Magic, part 1, Fall Weather Friends and Sonic Rainboom.
ReplyDeleteThere should be an entry for ‘gentlecolt’ meaning gentleman and an alternate definition of filly meaning ‘lady’ or in some other way referring to an adult not child pony.
I need to disagree with Pinkamena Diane Pie being Pinkie Pies full name, since it was never confirmed that her story was an actual happening rather than just one of her sugar trips. After all, she said after her story: "Maybe next time I will tell you the story how I got my cutie mark."
ReplyDeleteOr this should atleast be mentioned in the dictionary...
"Hay" is also used as an exclamation of surprise, as in "Hey". It can also be used in place of "Hello," as in "Hay there." ("Hey there.")
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea, I just wish that the real dictionary was really like this. I liked the Kill Bill reference on the Buck entry but was a little disappointed that there was no David Bowie reference in the Diamond Dogs entry. Still awesome, though.
ReplyDelete"Hoofington" should be in there.
ReplyDeleteCANON city - site of (tgap) Trixie's (ALLEGED) victory over an Ursa Major.
Also, nice entry on Sweetie Belle Derel-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AHAHAH This is awesomely hilarious, APPLE PIE: Substitute for weaponry.
ReplyDeleteAlready ima have a good day today.
Egghead needs to be a definition for Twilight Sparkle.
ReplyDeleteStrikes a good tone. I only have two requests:
ReplyDelete1) How about some etymological notes, such as when/where certain words (especially fan words like bronies and brohoof) were coined, and how they were formed
2) When another in-situ term is used in the definition, (e.g. defining Apple Bloom as one of the Cutie Mark Crusaders), there ought to be a qv notation, and the term ought to be defined (AAAAAPLEOOSA, for example, is used in Braeburn's definition, but is not defined elsewhere)
Okay, don't take it too seriously, have fun with it, but try not to confuse the reader who isn't totally familiar with the show, ya know?
@B.
ReplyDeleteThere's quite a few glaring omissions and some I don't understand why they were in there. I can understand sethisto being in there, but why not cereal or phoe? Why eqd, but not derpy hooves website, flankbook or rainbowdash.net? Why is fuck shit stack in there when ponies the anthology isnt? and finally, why isn't number 3 under pinkie pie "Random". If u need to contact me about more omissions, I can be reached on Rainbowdash.net using this same name
Xen - n.
ReplyDeleteThe first viewer to ever watch a screen cap of Episode 1 of Season 2.
Also being the Director's 2 year old daughter.
http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/06/season-2-episode-1-screener-complete.html
@Delc17
ReplyDeleteActually I just added Sethisto, along with Baked Bads and muffin, a little earlier this morning based on another comment.
As B said, we're open to suggestions. For what we've included, there will be terms we missed.
This is fantastic, just one addition:
ReplyDeleteFOREVER: For how long you lose a friend when you lose his trust.
Also, you should include more community stuff and such if you are including fuck shit stack and EqD. Like "Friendship is Magnets" for example.
@The Dread Pirate Roberts
ReplyDeleteAppleoosa is there, second from the bottom of the 'A's as of this comment.
A couple things: The dictionary is freakin' sweet. Good job.
ReplyDeleteAlso, that is one of the most adorable drawings ever.
@B
ReplyDeleteYou need to add admin (defacto ruler of funnyjunk, calls himself princess CELESTIA), funnyjunk (site filled with many bronies, which tends to have daily flame wars between bronies and the anti-pony brigade), anti pony brigade (extremist group that hates bronies, and is trying to purge funnyjunk of the supposed "pony cancer")
DEFINATELY love and tolerance (slogan adopted by the majority of bronies) and Equestria girls (the song for the bronies given to us by the hub/hasbro) and graceful (fluttershy, and fluttershy's schneezes)
And slight changes:
Ponibooru (full of meme wars, once flooded with porn and became for a short time "pornibooru)
Princess CELESTIAs school for gifted unicorns (reference to X-men's "doctor Xavier's school for gifted individuals")
@B
ReplyDeleteAlso, PLAU (you don't me)
I have another in show joke entry.
ReplyDeleteBooks - n
1. You shouldn't hit them.
2. You should really just read them.
Add Pinkie Pool! Y'know, Pinkie Pie + Deadpool.
ReplyDeleteI read through the entire thing and laughed quite a few times. I am veryy proud of myself.
ReplyDeleteFor explosion appearing twice, at first i was like
ReplyDelete<---Joke
Me
But then i got it, and I was all /)^3^(\
You could probably add few more terms to the second dictionary. if ya want, that is
ReplyDeleteUnder:
General Equestrian Terms
1 Dam = Mother
2 Sire = Father
3 Sharing Breath = A greeting, if you will. Its an acceptance ritual normally shared by heard mates, or blood family of the herd, or mated pairs. ( My mare, Filly and I always greeted each other that way, As I did with an older eccentric pony mare, Dallas, Who I first started my equine experiences with. Oh if I didn't greet Dallas that way, she would either bite me or give me a swift kick in the leg. I learned a might fast about greeting her properly. I passed the knowledge onto Filly who quickly took it. She would get mad if I didn't greet her that way after a few weeks of doing so constantly.)
4 Bit-path = An uncommen term I learned to designate the open space between the horses front set of teeth and their molars, where the bit of a bridle rests. Others call it the "Bars" I don't like that term myself >.< Im not sure what its official term is though. O.o
5 Claim ( to claim or claiming ) = Equine form of adoption, if you will. It can also be a way of delegating ownership over a specific person/pony. I had this happen to me with Dallas, Filly, and a few other horses. Dallas would beat her own daughter when she approached Dallas and me. It was sad, but kinda nice. Certainly was interesting. We later got some Mustangs, I was later claimed by an un-named mare. Boy did she get aggressive to the others around me. She would even buck at her owners if they approached me and her. I was claimed by many of the horses on this farm , all at different times mind you LOL. Even this goofy old stallion, he flat out hated guys . . . but he was fine around me.
I have used those terms in some secluded shorts I wrote . . Some ponies got the terms other were like WTF? that makes no sense. It would be good fer the those new to Ponydom to know... IMHO
My fav equestrian word. Forelock. I loved to keep my Filly's mane and tail nice and tidy. Her forelock was always getting chewed by another mare in the field, I respected her too but I was not going to have my mares head unprotected by a missing forelock. In other words, I think she looked better with a full one . . . I always had to keep loading it up with an anti-chew cream from the tack shop . . . But I loved how she looked when I got it nice and long.
Filly would fall asleep whenever I would mess with her mane, it happened every time n.n It was adorable, she did that ever since I first started to handle her when she was 6 months old. Still does today, but I really don't get to see her anymore. :'C
Though a testament to a real horses loyalty. Even after not seeing her for 7 yrs ( I currently don't get to work with her anymore ) I finally got to visit Filly a few weeks ago, and after 5 minutes of cleaning her mane, she latched on to my wrist, placing it in her bit-path, never hurt me, though she used mush heavier pressure this time. While using my free hand I kept fixin her mane and she fell asleep again. ( when she was 2 and I was in the field with her and the other horses, she would take my wrist and walk me into the grazing area of the woods to eat when no other horse would go back there. I swear she hated being alone. Only ever did this stuff to me, no one else. Oh celestai . . I miss her soo much.
sorry for rambling folks . . . I get like this when i think of my past horse friends :)
Very rapid growth of the community and evolution in the meaning of the words is proving a real problem for the ongoing accuracy of the dictionary.
ReplyDeleteFor example this was the accepted definition on Ponychan just 3 weeks ago:
Fencebucker - n.
1. Transgendered equine.
This is the definition in use now:
Fencebucker - n.
1. Bisexual equine.
We're scramble to find a new term for the first/older meaning, as we've all been caught off guard by how fast the use of the word has changed.
You should add
ReplyDeleteRainbow Dash
- awesome
@Doc Steedly
ReplyDeleteI'll include your terms to the next update of my brony dictionary. thank you for the terms^^
Hey, in the link, Explosion is in there twice. Just thought i would let you know.
ReplyDelete
