Pretty much every aspect of the fandom was hit in some way, including various stats for those of you who are interested in that sort of thing. Even Lauren Faust threw her two cents in. I'm just glad it didn't turn into one of those "look at these sad adults playing with ponies" articles. I was nervous, considering she asked for a picture of me in a (Which you can find near the middle of the article).
Anyway, check it out below!
Wired.com Brony Interview
I'm sure my picture will be shopped to hell thanks to our 4chan background, so at least use the bigger one (After the break, 10 internets to Trixie hat/cloak).
Also up on Cartoon Brew now! Go flood it with pony support!

Sethisto is hawt.
ReplyDeleteI'd would love and tolerate the EFF out of Seth. In a totally non-homosexual homosexual way, of course.
ReplyDeleteYou can have fame or privacy. Not both, Seth.
ReplyDeleteNice article to read. Heartwarming.
just don't read the comments!
ReplyDeleteSo that's Seth...THIS EXPLAINS EVERYTHING.....SOMEHOW.
ReplyDeleteTime for someone to draw a pic of Seth about to get beat up by Trixie, Twilight, and Rarity for flip-flopping about who's the best so much! :P
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteYou weren't kidding D:
I'd recommend ignoring the comments.
ReplyDeleteLove the fact that they made this article for us bronies. Just hate the comments people are posting there. :P
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteSadly, on news sites like Wired, the only people who actually make comments are people who are incredibly right- or left-wing, and just say crap like "it's all the gays' faults" or "its part oft he terrorists' plan." I read the comments for a good laugh.
The comments are one of the most retarded things i have ever seen off of Youtube. They are all just saying ''Haha what a bunch of homosexuals'' and ''They will never get laid'' instead of some actual fekkin' comments.
ReplyDeleteIgnorant comments are ignorant. Even if I wasn't a brony and didn't understand this whole phenomenon, I would still take any guy who kindly admits that he likes ponies more seriously than anyone who bashes it in a hateful way.
ReplyDeleteGood article though. :)
You better not take a break :P I don't know how I'd survive until season 2 without this blog :P
ReplyDeleteI love how in every "serious" place we're posted, the comments section turns into a bunch of babies. /co/ trolls are more mature than the people here.
ReplyDeletePony version of Seth needed now.
ReplyDeleteYeah... I kinda wanna find whoever made that comment about people with Aspergers and make him eat his words... God that made me feel like s***... It's not like we're retarded, we just can't interact with people very well...
ReplyDeleteWe should actually spam the comments all saying that ponies are awesome and stuff, just to make all the other asshats feel awkward and insecure. I mean, I don't want Ponies to be negative, but this is Self Defense.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, Seth IS A BOSS.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least she bothered to do actual research, instead of seeing a bunch of guys fawning over a cartoon.
ReplyDeleteComments are pretty bad. Think they need some brony love and tolerance.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThat just makes us look more insecure and socially awkward. Who gives a hoot if some random commentators on Wired's site are butthurt about ponies? Getting all defensive about it is how furries got such a bad name. Just ignore the dumbasses and be glad that Wired was nice to us and might introduce the show to an even wider audience.
Well, it's time to show those commenters what this fandom is really about.
ReplyDeleteLoving and tolerating of course.
@Anonymous
ReplyDelete"I mean, I don't want Ponies to be negative, but this is Self Defense."
No...this is SETH DEFENSE!
Is this just online, or is it going to end up in the physical magazine?
ReplyDeleteHaters gonna hate.
ReplyDeleteOoo seth
ReplyDeleteGreat article. Shame about the reaction, though. But that might just work in our favour. Wasn't 4chan's banning spree on all pony content a great way to spread the news about MLP?
ReplyDeleteYep, I think that about covers what's up with the fandom. Wired even cleared up the whole Stephen Magnet situation! And hey, I can't complain when Lauren Faust gives us another thumbs-up.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteBasically, there was lots of OC made about it too, so it only boosted our "power" to so speak.
Somehow I avoided the bans even though I joined 3 days prior to those bans.
Just remember to be positive and polite on the comments, last thing we need is to look like a bunch of jerks. This fandom might be able to do the impossible and actually help people break free of gender roles that have dictated society for a long long time. Lets not mess it up.
ReplyDeleteOh Seth how you make me giggle. Great article, actually did some research. To bad the comments are filled with ignorance.
ReplyDelete@Geekthras You know what? You're right, and I take it back.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, calm and reasoned discussion is fine, but don't play into the irrational superfan stereotype because that would be utterly counterproductive to the Five Year Pla- er, to giving the show and the community a positive light.
ReplyDeleteThe comments aren't THAT bad. Awesome read, and Seth looks about 20% cooler than I expected. =D
ReplyDelete@ a href #c8557967431855622962 >Anonymous /a>Seriously, don't read the comments. It's all just hate.
ReplyDeleteI know the comments are pretty bad, but why aren't we talking about Seth more? Look at that guy! What a boss
ReplyDeleteThose wired comments aren't worth the bandwitdh the consume.
ReplyDeleteAnd nice heroic pose there... complete with put-stuff-im-my-hand hand. Awesome!
I thought the article was very well researched and written. It's good to see a positive article about something that would be considered "socially abnormal" by the ridiculous gender stereotypes our society has created.
ReplyDeleteAs for the comments on the article, I just have to laugh, especially at the "oh a bunch of homos" and "these guys will never get laid" comments. I've been with my fiancee for seven years, and she thinks my pony fandom is the cutest thing she's ever seen. She's even watched a few episodes with me.
Hate detected in comments.
ReplyDeleteReady the orbital friendship beam.
I'm not sure about Seth...
ReplyDeleteLet me mullet over.
I can't believe I just made that pun.
If anyone is planning to respond to those comments, just make sure it's not negatively.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous He is pretty handsome alright.
ReplyDeleteApologies for the double post. I forgot to add that it was also cool to see what Seth looks like. Now I can put a face to the person I e-mail my fanfiction to. :P
ReplyDeleteyes it finally went up, glad I could put my two cents in for what I think about the Brony community.
ReplyDeleteI was expecting a cube.
ReplyDelete*shrugs*
~Scratch
Oh lawl, in the small picture the contrast between pillow and bedboard make Seth seem like he has a mane XD
ReplyDeleteIn other news, the comments treat homosexuality and Asperger as a negative trait and judge people based on physical appearance. While do I usually care what people think of me and my actions, I don't give a damn about those comments.
...and you know what? MLP:FIM has made me more sociable, and generally a better person, so the haters can go hate themselves while we're all off loving and tolerating :P
And as usuual, the people in the comments can't think of any legitimate reasons as to why males shouldn't watch this show, resorting to insults instead.
ReplyDeleteAnd bronies are supposedly the "Childish" ones?
Some of the people commenting on that article make me so mad I just want to hug the SHIT out of them.
ReplyDeleteWow, that article turned out really well. I told you there was nothing to worry about, Seth!
ReplyDeleteLook at that sexy blog master! *whistle* Nice pony.
ReplyDeleteFirst goal reached: Wired! Next goal, The Today Show! CAN YOU DO IT SETH? Or should we call you Shaun now?
ReplyDelete...Nah, Seth is cooler by about 20%.
*sigh*
ReplyDeleteHello, Wired. Tertiary demographic here. Adult females.
Don't worry, we're used to being ignored.
The people who left the comments are just bitter, angry, JEALOUS alpha-male jackoffs who have no idea what they want in life.
ReplyDeleteWe found what we want. Happiness through Ponies :} And I'm gonna rub it in the world's face until they convert :}
@ZettaLux
ReplyDelete"Sethisto is hawt."
STOP MAKING ME FEEL EMBARRASSED TO AGREE WITH YOU.
Wait, Seth is from Arizona?
ReplyDeleteOne of the hubs of brony culture started in my state?
Today, I am a proud Arizonan.
Also, that picture of Seth looks boss.
Parasprites gonna parasprite.
ReplyDeleteAnd be meanie-pants.
DERPY SLUG! HEAVY MUFFIN GUN!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA LOOK AT THAT NECKBEA- Oh, huh, Seth doesn't look all that bad.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little disappointed actually. :/
I think it's important to keep in mind how it would look to someone who hadn't seen the show. My Little Pony has to be second after Barbie for the most unlikely brand for adult men to be fans of.
ReplyDeleteWhen I've mentioned to friends, they've always been "...really?", and my response has always been that if it was like how they imagined, I wouldn't be watching it.
So if anyone responds on there, maybe just say why the show's good, instead of being all "PONIES 4 WIN!!!"
Or you could direct them to ED. Where a poll will reveal that 36% of respondents watch porn of it. Um.
Great David Copperfiled pose Seth! Inb4 Seth is my new waifu, just kidding it's a nice picture and you really got balls to do so. Maybe reading the whole article later but wow surely haters gonna hate but on the other hand that is nothing new so who cares.
ReplyDeleteCaption:
ReplyDeleteIt's dangerous to go alone.
Take this!
@Pinkiemon
ReplyDeleteTotally agree.
@Anon
Yes, although I honestly think they could've found a better poster-boy for the article. It might be rude but damn he sure does fulfill the role of aging-man-child-in-mothers-basement.
@Pixel Coder [RebeccaRGB]
ReplyDeleteI feel kind of bad being so excited to get some positive press when it ignored such a big chunk of the community! Especially when it put such a big emphasis on breaking gender roles. Maybe if you e-mail the author, you can get at least get an addendum put it. Might make you look like an afterthought, but it's better than nothing, right?
Good article and love the part, "I'm 22, why do I love this" as I'm 35 and found myself in the same situation.
ReplyDeleteAlso to the comments, "Someone on the internet is making fun of me, whatever will I do?"
And yeah, Sethisto looks like a don.
ReplyDeleteThat's a terrible thing to say about your fellow Brony. At least he had the BALLS to have his picture taken. Would you do the same? I'd imagine not, for fear you'd be called a "ponyfag"
ReplyDeleteYea, I was bracing for the worst, Seth... How do you get along with the ladies?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I saw his pic and I thought they were going to begin bashing MLP like there was no tomorrow, thank GOD they didn't. It's just the idiots in the comment section that're ruining it, I mean someone went on someone else's Facebook and insulted them! That's entering their personal lives! It's just not right...
ReplyDelete@AnonymousDidn't post right:
ReplyDelete"Someone on the internet is making fun of me, whatever will I do?" --sarcasm
This is actually how I expected Seth to look like. Perhaps without the curly hair, but still...
ReplyDeleteMake a poll about the Body-Mass-Index of the fans :D. I say the Results are going to be slightly below avarage.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteHonestly, if were going to have my picture taken with ponies, I'd probably hold RD close to my face and try and imitate the *awesomeface* face.
I don't htink I could pull off what Seth did.
@ a href #c8557967431855622962 >Anonymous /a>
ReplyDeleteHow could I read the comments they're in such a terrible format anyways it hurts my eyes
Lol now we have a picture of Seth
oh exploitable :p
Sorry. My BMI is too high for my tastes. I'm 6 foot, 250 pounds ( broad shouldered of course :} i like sports and beer :}
ReplyDeleteOh and I like ponies ^-^
Wired did a pretty good article there actually. Probably the best one outside of KnowYourMeme.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Seth, I say this is a totally non homo way, that's a pretty sweet pose/pic
LOL, first thought when I saw the article: "Hey, I know that guy, now I can talk about ponies when I see him."
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised my cell phone camera actually takes good pictures. I rarely use the thing.
ReplyDeleteI gotta say Seth is giving me a huge looks like Fred Ewanuick vibe but I'm probably just crazy.
ReplyDeleteYou looked great Seth! Brownosing aside, I liked the article--didn't treat us like crap.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see that we are spreading, infecting everything further.
Oh, I so love those comments on Wired. So many lols were had.
ReplyDeleteI know it sounds terrible and shallow, and I don't intend to insult anyone, but I think they should've picked a more handsome brony for the top of the article. An out-of-work programmer who looks the part doesn't necessarily help the knee-jerk reaction people probably have that we're all just shut-in dorks.
ReplyDelete@ZettaLux
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Though the pose certainly helps. That pose is epic.
(Would be better holding Rarity though)
Lookin hot Seth.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad someone in the comments brought up that their are female Bronies as well. It seems this fandom has a habit of getting caught up in the "omg grown men watch ponies"
ReplyDeleteI sometimes feel that we get clumped in with the older women that nostalgia over G1 and collect pony toys. And though I did watch the show and play with the toys when I was five, I'd never even touched ponies or thought I'd ever be this in love with them until FiM came about.
Damn Seth! I would have never guessed that you look so badass! :D
ReplyDeleteJust finished reading that post that was linked. It was pretty fair and enjoyable. I like that. I might have left a comment on their site, buuuut. Just a tad reluctant to do that.
ReplyDeleteAnd cool, I'm not the only guy who makes Google Alerts based on things with his name or work involved to see what happens to it over time.
Anonymous wrote: "An out-of-work programmer who looks the part doesn't necessarily help the knee-jerk reaction people probably have that we're all just shut-in dorks."
ReplyDeleteSorry pal, that IS shallow. And insulting. And rude. How can you be so judgmental? Go back and watch Bridle Gossip a few more times. You're still ashamed that you like a show for little girls and you're either afraid of being called a fag or that you ARE one for liking this.
Shame on you. Shame on ANYONE for judging a person for what they look like. And I didn't learn that from ponies. I learned it from Martin Luther King.
C'mon Broniesy. You're better than that.
Haters gonna hate I suppose. But comments there, that's just ridiculous. It looks just like Youtube on any given day, how sad.
ReplyDeleteSeth is totally Lord of the Ponies.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the comments need more love, acceptance, tolerance, and friendship. Move, people! Hug the haters!
Also, current or fellow former military bronies weigh in. A lot of people have a hard time accusing us of being anything other than manly for some reason. I fucking wonder why.
Calling us homos makes them bigots right?
ReplyDeleteNo. It makes them RETARDS.
ReplyDeleteBut that's insult to retards!
ReplyDeleteI don't mean retards as in mentally handicapped...just like the word fag doesn't mean gay person ( most of the time anyway ) See South park to know what I'm talking about.
ReplyDeleteNice 'do, Seth.
ReplyDeleteWe can haz pictures of Cereal and Phoe?
Oh god you look like a giant fag.
ReplyDeleteI want to have your butt babies.
@PterosaurPony
ReplyDeleteI think it's more that we're in a demographic that was initially expected to exist on the periphery of the viewers. It's kind of like how nopony really thinks it's all that strange when a 25 year old man admits he's into Transformers, when people see us getting excited about ponies it pings as "normal".
We're not a big news story because we're not doing anything outside the expected norm. It's not quite fair, but it's also ok. We know we're here, the bronies know we're here, and we all get along.
I'm more jealous that I didn't get interviewed too. But then again, what would they have asked me?
Here, have a photoshop:
ReplyDeletehttp://dl.dropbox.com/s/7pyjn9jh9afw04i/LolSethisto.jpg
Working on the Trixie-garb 'shop at the moment as well.
Oooo lookit! A hater followed us home!, Can we keep him, PLEASE!!!
ReplyDeleteTo Pony haters, you must die.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, loved the article!
@crazyredemu
ReplyDeleteThe article brought us some haters?
Can we raffle them? :D
@AnonymousMy point was that people reading the article are going to be shallow, so more pictures to show that bronies come in all types would be helpful to ease in formerly-unaware readers. If they posted a picture of one of the military bronies or something like that, people would be like "What the hell? That's awesome, why's this tough guy like ponies?" instead of "Oh, this guy's probably got figurines from two dozen anime sitting on his desk, ponies are just some other run-of-the-mill show and so are the fans."
ReplyDeletei can't wait for the first video to show up on youtube of some pony-hater getting their ass beat by an enraged disciple of Celestia
ReplyDeleteOh look, trolls in the article's comments.
ReplyDeleteThis is me being surprised.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteFirst time doing this:
http://img862.imageshack.us/img862/5113/roflbotu5mh.jpg
@ a href #c5932590026776544302 >Phoe /a>
ReplyDeleteThat's what I figured. I guess I'm not used to being on the periphery of a show about pastel ponies. But what can you do XD
What would they have asked you. Why they would have asked just how awesome you are :D
(more likely they would have asked whats it like being a female in a fandom about ponies that is dominated by men)
Seth's name isn't actually Seth?
ReplyDeleteOh god my whole world is tumbling down!
@Abalidoth Hah, you said Hub. See its funny because Hub is the channel that MLP is broadcasted on. Oh the coincidence.
ReplyDeleteNo, it makes them ignorant.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteLuke Allen here. They used the worst picture I sent; I should have done a bit more QC. I'm a bit disappointed at the first line, too. Other than that, I love this article.
Let us group-hug them into submission.
ReplyDeleteDear Princess Celestia,
ReplyDeleteToday I learned that the internet will be the internet. Also Seth's name is Shaun, go figure.
Your faithful student
I'm not seeing too many negative comments. There are a few, but they're relatively tame. Was kind of disappointed, I kind of enjoy reading them.
ReplyDeleteHoly shit this blog is being run by a young Tom Hanks.
ReplyDeleteI'm so much happier now.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThey've mostly been hidden by the better comments. It started out pretty nasty but I think the haters have all but given up.
I'll stick with Seth!
ReplyDeleteanon12:53 here, I found them, forgot to sort them by oldest first instead of popular, whoops =/
ReplyDeletePhew... The brony community restored my faith in humanity. I really felt depressed at how many negative comments there were, but look now! It's FILLED with friendship!
ReplyDelete@AlterForm
ReplyDeletei seriously cracked up at that
and Seth, there is nothing i can say that hasn't been said a hundred times, your awesome

ReplyDeleteBWAHAHAHAHA
Love and tolerance totally overtook the comments.
ReplyDeleteJUST AS PLANNED.
(I love this article. It's the best and most well-researched one yet. Plus, we get a picture of Seth. Yay~)
You look good!
ReplyDeleteNow we just need pictures of Cereal and Phoe.
ReplyDeleteSo much comments here and there :) (happy status achieved)
ReplyDeleteGo and post more there, lol.

ReplyDeleteSeth, you won´t stay as a cube for long :D
ReplyDeleteSomepony is sureley going to draw you as a pony.
Hey Seth, you look British. Take that however you want.
ReplyDeleteBadass pose dude.
ReplyDeletebwahaaa! awesome pose blogpony! mad props! brohoof!
ReplyDeleteand yay, maybe we have secret bronies at wired, too, eh?
@AnonymousKudos on getting into the interview, though. Again, sorry if anything I said sounded insulting, I feel bad for phrasing my first post as rudely as I did. But imagine if they put some burly manly-man up there as the first picture, it would probably draw more of those negative commenters to actually look into the fanbase (or even read the article, which I'm pretty sure they haven't in many cases).
ReplyDeleteOr we'd get a bunch of steel mill worker / village people comments instead. Whatever.
/r/ing the Seth pic with a photoshopped eyepatch, moustache (Steven Magnet-tier please), and a ninja Apple Bloom about to drop-kick his beautiful facial hair.
ReplyDeleteExtra points for other humourous additions

Congratulations, Bronies, It appears most of the Hatred and Trolling going on in the comments has been neutralized, or is currently being taken care of by a mass of about...Let's say an average of 5 Bronies for each post that has insulting material in it.
ReplyDeleteGood work, and onward with the friendship!
Also, we know have physical appearances to go off of for finally making a pony-form of Seth. HUZZAH! He won't be trapped in a box anymore!
SETHISTO IS HOT. that is all.
ReplyDelete@AlterForm
ReplyDeleteYOU SIR, WIN AN INTERNET. AND ANY PONY OF YOUR CHOICE. (no offence, Seth, but that's just plain awesome... ;P )
I lol'd
ReplyDeleteThe article was good, and actually well researched.
ReplyDeleteHowever, what happened in the comments section afterwards was pure, unadulterated WIN. The hate messages postponed to oblivion by love and tolerance.
And then people wonder why one loves this community.
Also, as said, Seth indeed has a badass pose. It is dangerous to go alone, indeed ;)
So is wired a big, like mainstream site?
ReplyDeleteGreat article on wired! Also it looks like the trolls in the comment section are getting pwned by Bronies now. =D
ReplyDeleteMy stoofs time!
ReplyDeletehttp://db.tt/4l77lpi
http://db.tt/o4DX3xN
Good article. Well-researched and actually thoughtful. I do wish we could have one of these news stories acknowledge female bronies, though. They always make it seem like this fandom is exclusively male, and the only females watching MLP are little girls.
ReplyDelete@Kjh242
ReplyDeleteLol'd so fecking hard at the box
soon the world will know the greatness that is friendship is magic. more than now I mean
ReplyDelete@FoxOfWar
ReplyDeleteThe comments section looks awesome now, I love the positivity of this whole thing. Like the article says, neo-sincerity.
I also love how news of one of the most dedicated mainstream profiles of the MLP phenomenon only has about a third of comments on here that the Trixie/Rarity-off got. You guys are alright.
And another G&P Sethisto

ReplyDeleteIs it just me, or does Sethisto bear an uncanny resemblance to a young Tom Hanks?

Figured they'd have a picture of the nerdiest, saddest, fattest fuck on the front to set the tone for the whole article.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteWell, the guys is autistic and apparently ponies have helped him reach out socially more than he has before.
So I wouldn't make fun.
What the fuck was the bullshit about "friendship and tolerance"? Thanks for making us all look like a bunch of homosexual autists who can't even get out of their houses.
ReplyDeleteHey Seth, can we call you Shaun?
ReplyDelete@ZettaLux
ReplyDeleteHe looks like Anders Matthesen the top danish comedian. google it you should see the similarities.
Nice read and was fun to see how far the fandom will go. Pitty though at all of those that are scared of something different.
ReplyDeleteHatred is a DISEASE, it's like any other. And there's a CURE. A cure - and I have found it. It's called FRIENDSHIP.
ReplyDeleteBtw, Seth's...handsome for a man.
http://imgur.com/Q57El
ReplyDeleteHeres my submission for the Seth-shoop event. It's what I thought the picture would have looked like in the first place.
I agree with Lightsideluc.
ReplyDeleteNothing personal but first thing that pops in my mind when i look at Mr.Allen is a basement dwelling man-child, who collects anime figures. Yeah yeah love and tolerate, but you gotta admit that they could have made a better choice with our poster boy.
@private-enemy
ReplyDeleteI thought it was cowbell. :P
Great article, it covers just about everything.
ReplyDeleteBut Cartoon Brew? That blog unfortunately has misguided pretensions to "art" that makes them think that the only good animation ever produced was produced in the 1940s, and that the only good animation being made today is being made by unemployed indie directors. They did, after all, once claim that FiM had brought about the end of creator-driven animated TV series. I wouldn't spit in their general direction; haters gonna hate and all that.
@Anonymous Gotta agree here Sethisto should be the poster person

ReplyDeleteSeth and Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day Frontman) separated at birth?
Of course ignore the twenty-something etc female bronies as usual. We exist and we are as much a part of the brony subculture as any male brony.
ReplyDelete-End Rant-
well that was completely awesome. seems our fearless leader has a face now. right on man. now if i see you in the street one day i can stop and brohoof ya in person.
ReplyDeleteSo Seth lives in Arizona eh? I too happen to live in that particular state.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteYou may have a point. Hmm, Seth Armstrong... Works, doesn't it?
Also, another media outlet has fallen to the Equestrian Empire! Glory to the Royal Sisters! HUZZAH!
Seth's a human, my celestia everything I thought is wrong.
ReplyDelete@Spazturtle
ReplyDeleteYeah seriously I thought he was a pony. I am disappoint.
It's when I step into some self awareness via an article like this that I really realize how incredible bronyism really is.
ReplyDeleteDon't stop believing, fellow bronies.
@Spazturtle
ReplyDeleteYou can always make a pony version of him, now that we know how he looks.
This fanbase is starting to annoy me.
ReplyDeletePeople in these comments too.
-A long-time pony fan.
I checked out the article, and I couldn't close it faster. Sure, I like ponies, but I don't run out and buy toys or tell everyone in the world that I like this show.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm guilty of writing a fan fiction, but that's so I can practice writing and have a chance for feedback. I'm doing it for fun and don't want to have the spotlight shone on me.
I might be taking a break from the fandom for a while. Maybe when I can get the first image of the article out of my head I'll come back.
I concur with others here - the article's top image and opening line are regrettable, as is the mention of Asperger Syndrome. Nothing against Mr. Allen though! I'm stoked that FiM has helped you out socially.
ReplyDeleteMy point is that, if FiM becomes more mainstream (with more media exposure and whatnot), I sincerely wish the subculture was better represented from the word "go." That is, well-researched articles (with the correct terminology and whatnot), no attempts to pigeonhole the community under a general "freaks" banner, and better images of fans and fanworks. You know what they say after all - you can only make a first impression once!
I really wonder if the writers are aware of their prejudices and apologetics leaking through on these articles? "You may think My Little Pony is only for little girls - ho ho! Get a load of this!" etc. The Wired piece is especially troubling because, as with many things, the stuff that stands out the most are the negatives; the top picture, the opening line, and the AS quote, as I said. Was the writer aware of how profoundly she would affect readers' perceptions with details like that?
*sigh* Oh, well. I guess bronies are on track to become the next furries. :( Can't wait to see what our "CSI" episode will be like! :p
And then Seth was banished to the moon Ganymede for showing support for Twilight instead of Best Sister Celestia...
ReplyDeleteYou look awesome in your Robe And Wizard Hat :U

ReplyDeleteLet's get this to the front page of Reddit everypony!!
Ugh, I know it's been mentioned, but the picture of mr. allen has left a bad taste in my mouth. Really, they couldn't have found someone who doesn't look they just crawled out of their mothers basement?not okay...
ReplyDeleteSeth's real name is Shawn? His pony name could be Shorn Fetlocks!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you brother.
Top image hurts more then it helps.
ReplyDeleteJust saying.
Alright I have a question. Is this going to be in print, or just on the internet?
ReplyDeleteSethisto looks like Elijah Wood
ReplyDeleteGod damnit why did they not put Shaun at the top of the article. I mean no offense to the guy but it doesn't exactly set the right mood when you put a gigantic picture of an out of work balding guy in a log cabin as the first picture to represent Bronies...
ReplyDeleteWhat up, another Arizonan.
ReplyDeleteSeth, you are a manly man.
lol, Seth looks just like David DaRocha (bassist for Born of Osiris).

I love how everypony realizes how to react to hate. That is they don't react. I love how everypony is just ignoring the Anonymous meanie-pants parasprites in this thread and that one.
ReplyDeleteHating is no way to go, bros. Love ya, Luke.
I love this community please stay around forever and ever.
Dude, you look like Michael Keaton.
ReplyDeleteLuke Allen saw the people wailing and striking out at their brothers in their ignorance, and he was saddened. For Luke Allen is truly a man, and therefore the suffering of all creatures weighs on his heart.
ReplyDeleteIn his Throne-Hall, Luke Allen spoke to Odin, who had come to pay tribute to his glory.
"Can I do nothing to help these wretched beings? See how they wallow in the filth of their own spewings. Surely there is something I can do."
"No, my Lord," said Odin. "You must not. For no man may be raised above himself. He must do that alone, for he who does so will never be alone again." Odin wiped away a single tear from his eye, which flew in to the cosmos and became ten thousand galaxies. "That is the magic of friendship. Do not deprive them of that gift."
Aw, Seth, you're actually awfully pretty.
ReplyDeleteWIRED is my benchmark. we're totally legit now.
ReplyDelete@AnonymousYou're being rather vague when you say the fan base is annoying please explain yourself further
ReplyDeleteI thought the article was really well-written. It gave me positive vibes! I didn't even bother with the comments.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I must applaud is the fella with Aspergers. I've had to live with a friend with Aspergers, and I don't know if you all know just how very infuriatingly difficult it is to deal with the it--for both the person with the syndrome, and the one without! I had tried for years to help my friend out and teach him how folks "work", and nothing made him "get it". I'm at a complete loss with other friends as well.
If ponies could do something I could not, and do it so exceptionally well...hell, that's just freaking awesome. Educational show? Educational show, indeed! I applaud this. So much.
That said, as far the the leading photo into the article, I think those determined to hate on ponies will hate no matter what. I don't think every article can or will cover the topic perfectly. Things will not always go as well as we might hope. Haters will always manage to find something to hate. The trick is to be the better person--always! Be a boss--stand tall and walk proudly. Don't be self-conscious--just do and be your best today and every day, and that will speak louder than anything else you could ever hope to do. :)
Hopefully watching more Rarity could convince Luke to get a makeover. He needs one so bad.
ReplyDeleteSethisto, on the other hand, looks fly like a pegasus.
I realized by Seth's interview that he probably gets really burnt out on Equestria Daily.
ReplyDeleteGo on, Seth, take a break. We won't mind.
^ Oh and on top that, I too am developing a mancrush on Seth.
ReplyDeleteOh great, now you autistic manhildren are spamming Laurens dA with your bullshit.
