Grandfather served in the army, Father served in the Navy, one cousin served in the army, and another cousin served in the special forces and conducted operations in Afghanistan.

ReplyDeleteServed in the Army as a tank crewman for four years with the 1st Cav and returned to civilian life in June. I discovered MLP FIM at the start of my second deployment in February and it grew quickly on me as one of the few things that could really make us smile. I got a lot of my fellow soldiers interested in the shot.
ReplyDeleteThere was one instance where we were taking cover in a bunker while getting hit hard by mortars in the middle of the night and one of the youngest soldiers started singing "Giggle at the ghostly." Everybody started cracking up and had as high a spirit as possible throughout the situation.
My country does the draft; I served 2.5 years, since then going back for yearly re-training.

ReplyDelete*brohoofs and salutes* Happy veteran's day, sir. I'm Army, but most of my brony friends here in "paradise" are in the Air Force, and I'm sure they'd love to know that there are officers that are 20% cooler.

ReplyDeleteI think the majority are truthful. People who falsely claim they're in the military usually don't post specifics, but here I see people claiming they're air force mechanics, navy seabees, etc, which are all things most people wouldn't claim if they wanted to falsely state they're serving.

Closest to me is a predecessor I found on my hometown cenotaph. I know nothing about him other than his name, not even what war he died in (though by inference it's probably WWI).

ReplyDeleteI'm one of the non-specific entries, which will remain non-specific because I'm paranoid about OpSec, not because I'm trying to manipulate others into feeling grateful towards my service, especially since I'm still training and haven't done a gorram thing yet.
Still, you are total BAMF, and thank you for your actual overseas service, and I hope that I can someday feel like I did my part by heading out there myself.
My father was an F-14 pilot on the USS Carl Vinson right after the first Gulf War. Thank you to all those who serve and have served.

ReplyDeleteMy mom works as a civilian in the FDF (Finnish Defence Forces) HQ and my dad is now retired, but used to work in the army in some radio business and stuff (Was a Major)
We have conscription here in Finland, which means everyone at the age of 18-28 must go thru army service OR civil service. I was freed.

Howdy, everypony! I'm SSG Jake Hughes, US Army. Currently stationed in Daegu, South Korea, but I'm PCS'ing in 2 weeks. I'm a 46R, Broadcast Journalist, but I'm on my way to Fort Benning to become a Drill Sergeant. And yes, I plan on working Ponies into that somehow.

Two grandads served in WWII, fighting against the Russians. Served my year in Armored Brigade, Jäger Artillery Regiment, Signals Coy. Made Sgt 3rd class. Which army? Finnish. Something like 40% of Finns have a basic military training of 6-12 months.

Wow, lots of army bronies. I respect them for what they often have to do, but wish that they didn't have to do it.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't possibly do what they do. I'd be too scared of the potential threat of death, and I would never get over killing anyone else; even if they were firing at me.
If everyone were pacifists, there'd be no war. Too bad that's not evolutionarily feasible without becoming like the Borg hivemind.

USAF for a year and half now, My cousins are also all military. One in the Army, Navy, and of course a marine too.

Can't really say what my cousins do since they don't talk much about their careers.
My uncle served in the Royal Australian Airforce. Sadly not a brony though :(

I'm just a lonely PFC in the US Army stationed in Fort Stewart, GA. common sense doesn't exist here unlike the other posts I've been at. Anyway, Ponies are my only escape from the stupidity here. Not all army posts are bad but this place... It just makes the whole army look bad.

ReplyDeleteCurrently on westpac deployment. I've stayed up past midnight to watch the past 3 episodes on slower than slow DDG internet. I start youtube loading at 2300 and by 0000 the buffer is just about full. That's how I'm watching "Cutie Pox" tonight. No regrets!
Ex-U.S. Army Infantry. I was deployed and injured in Afghanistan and medically discharged. MLP:FiM helped me overcome a lot of my PTSD and gave me the strength to recover from my injury. I'm extremely inspired to see so many military Bronies in here. Thank you all for your service.

ReplyDeleteTrust me, the Army as a whole seems to be like that. I was stationed in Fort Wainwright Alaska. It's a frozen hell where the Army sends all their rejected and miserable NCOs.
Gonna try for Army Officers School (AMAN here in Brazil) or start pursuing a Federal Police career next year... Does that classify as military?

Never served myself, but my grandfather served in the US Navy during WWII, and my boss fought in the Gulf War with the US Army.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Senior Airman in the United States Air Force. I'm currently stationed over in England, though, and previous to that, I was stationed in Japan for two years. I can't wait to go back home.

ReplyDeleteAt 20 years old I'm currently in the Singapore Armed Forces serving my mandatory 2 years of National Service as a citizen of my country. I'm in the 36th Combat Engineers, our armed force's one and only bomb disposal battalion. As Singapore was part of the Pacific Theatre in WWII we have our fair share of UXOs buried underground that surface occasionally in excavation works, and we have personnel trained and qualified in EOD courses in the US and UK. I'm proud as hay to be serving my nation and keeping them safe from inadvertent explosions and terrorist threats.
I'm an disabled army vet, served in Iraq for 14 months pretty much going there 1 month after getting out of basic, I was a Fire Direction Specialist in the Field Artillery.

In my country, military service is kind of obligatory for men. If it wasn't for a permanent illness I happen to have, I would serve my country right now too. Alas, that isn't possible for me, but my brother serves in the navy at this precise moment. He is not a brony, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm not military myself but I have family who served. My dad served in the early 90s in the Army. I also have a great uncle and a grandpa who served in WWII in the 100/442 RCT and the MIS respectively. Grandpa is still kicking at 96, but uncle fell during the "Lost Battalion" rescue.

Finnish army reservist (PVT).

Now I am light infantryman in reserve until I turn 50.
I was in Google Docs chat thing for a FiMfic, and one guy literally was about an hour away from going to boot camp for the first time. It was a very dramatic moment, and I'm sure that he has no access to the internet at the moment, so this is a post for him. I do not know his name.
ReplyDeleteGrandpa on my mother's side was in the Ontario Regiment of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps in WWII. He got PTSD and after the war constantly woke everybody up at night screaming "PANZER!" He didn't talk much about the war from what I was told, but I can tell that Regiment was involved in some serious battles from what I've researched. He was also in the Grey & Simcoe Foresters.

My dad is from the USA. He was in the US Army Armored Corps for several years at Ft. Knox, KY. Tank Commander and Acting Staff Sergeant. They were training for what they thought would be WWIII (see: "Cuban Missile Crisis"). He was also in the reserves for a while.

ReplyDeleteI am a soldier in the US Army. I'm trapped on Goodfellow AirForce Base in Texas. I have made it blatantly obvious that I am a Brony to several others, the only other I have come across is one of my sergeants, who for a time had a MLP:FiM Rainbow Dash in their office, it has since disappeared, along with a few smurfs, kinda saddens me that they arent in there anymore. But it doesnt stop the spirit that I still get from the show

Father served in Kuwait as a medic in Desert Storm, joined Army in '82 for citizenship and education. Brother is a Marine currently in Platoon Leaders Course for combat aviation training. He gives brohoofs, even though he does not consider himself a brony per se. I am in the process of pursuing nomination to the Service Academies, also with aspirations for combat aviation. Also, I thought I might share this- a few months ago, an MN soldier died in action, and my friend and I attended his funeral in full dress uniform. When his mother saw us saluting, she started crying.

One of my friends is in the National Guard, and a bunch of his buddies are in other branches of the military. And they're all bronies... except for him.

ReplyDeleteI was a 31F for 4 years and stationed in Ft. Huachuca AZ back in the late 90's. My family has faithfully served this country since WW1. 5 generations of brave men and women have worn the uniform.

ReplyDeleteMy great grandad was a radio operator on an MTB. He saw his friends get shot to pieces before him. I really felt for him. I still like my odds at school though...
ReplyDeleteServing as a SGT in the US Army. Been in for almost 5 years now. Currently stationed OCONUS. Besides watching 'My Little Pony', I spend my free time training in hand to hand combat and I am certified as my unit's Combatives instructor.
ReplyDeleteI originally got into Friendship is Magic because of the Deathbattle episode Rainbow Dash Vs Starscream. The episode made me curious, and I finally found a site that had some of the episodes... I ended up watching all of season 1 in a weekend, and I've been hooked ever since.
I've talked about the show to some of the guys in my unit, but they don't seem (outwardly) interested. I haven't really been teased or bullied for it though. I wonder why?
I also recently went through a traumatic event that really stressed me emotionally. Surprisingly, "FIM" was a major factor in helping me deal with it (As well as my faith).
