You know what I think? I think that we haven't seen the last of discord. He seemed way to calm when he got turned to stone. He probably has some sort of trick up his sleeve.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED this episode. It gave me a nice feeling of peace at the end. The gags were hilarious and now I can't wait for season two!
Oh. My. Gosh. OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH, that was amazing! Way worth the wait.
ReplyDeleteIn addition to the Star Wars ending:
ReplyDeleteThe balloon chase scene is an homage to Jaws. Rarity and Pinkie play the first two barrels they shoot into the shark. Twilight and Applejack play Quint and Brody trying to get the third barrel/rope onto the shark/Rainbow. At the beginning when Fluttershy asks Rainbow Dash if she can hold her down, they even play the MLP theme on piccolo in the style of old sea shanties, just like when Quint and company first set sail from town.
The dancing bison in tutus are obviously a reference to Fantasia's dancing hippos.
The music from the montage where Twilight gets AJ to remember their friendship is reminiscent of Stardust. I'm not sure which scene though.
Interesting, there were some very funny moments but again, felt rushed. Personally think part 1 was better.
ReplyDeleteSorry to say, I'm on the side of, "Where's Luna!?" at the ending. Seriously, at this point I think Celestia imprisoning her is canon.
Anyone who argues the Star Wars homage at the end there was no reason for Luna to be there is on very shaky ground.
I do believe they are saving her and want to get it perfect. Honestly though, not even having a cameo is causing a storm now.
It's the Grand Galloping Gala all over again.
@kal413
ReplyDeleteAnd in the next episode Luna wakes up from a long nap, "Oh my... have I been asleep since 2010? Tia was supposed to wake me up no later than Easter!"
*Celestia* Ooooops! Guess I forgot! Trolololo... ;]
After a bit of thought, I realize I need to reconsider my first appraisal of the episode. It really was good, especially when paired against the NMM two-parter. Both season starts were interesting and fun, though this one certainly seems to offer more. But it wasn't really the season openers that got me to love this show.
ReplyDeleteThe slice-of-life style story that followed is what really hooked me. Even though these first two episodes ended up being a tad disappointing overall, I still have very high hopes for the rest of the season. Discord's influence could have a big effect on the ponies and we could potentially see some interesting character growth out of them all, particularly Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie. I'm curious to see where it all ends up, and where the ponies' lives will take them over this coming year.

ReplyDeleteThe pacing was a problem but that's not why I hated the episode.
ReplyDeleteDoing a two-parter to start season 2 was a mistake. It made sense for season 1 since it set up the series but this two-parter didn't setup anything.
The show's strength aren't the episodes like this one because of the constraints it has due to it being a kids show.
The show's strengths are the regular, slice of life episodes where we see the characters interact with each other. In this episode we did not see the characters interact, not really, because most of them were mindzapped.
I was willing to be patient after 2-1 because I was hoping there'd be a payoff (like Luna coming to save the day and establishing her character for season 2) but there wasn't one so I think the two parter was a faliure. And I'm not hung up on Luna I'm just using her as an example of something with long-term impact. The two-parter needed with end with some kind of surprise/plot twist. It didnt'.
And honestly I didn't even like Discord that much.
No doubt the episode has some great moments that are going to make some hilarious YouTube clips but the episode as a whole fell flat.
@Mistaque Best reason I've heard in a while to where's Luna.
ReplyDeleteIs it weird that I cried?
ReplyDeleteMane 6 save Equestria again
ReplyDeleteHold a Star Wars ceremony and don't invite Luna.
advicecelestia.jpg
Also, wow, Rainbow Dash may have been tethered by two ponies (though she's managed three before), but Fluttershy BOOKED while dragging an air balloon and two other ponies to reach her! Fluttershy stronger than Rainbow Dash? Faster!? Even more reason for me to consider her my favorite!
THIS WAS THE BEST EPISODE EVER!
ReplyDeleteI WAS ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT, i was like NO! not you too Twilight! now hope is doomed! and i was like supersad. but Twilight found out the big importance of friendship and when she returned to herself again I was overjoyed. With a happy big grin almost having some squeel.
Let's hope the upcoming rest of season 2 will be worth the wait.
@Altherix
ReplyDeleteOK, here's the truth, or as close to it as I can get, about Luna's appearing.
The original series, as well as Se02ep02, were all made VERY close together over a short period of time. Most if not all of it was made before the Brony phenomenon took off, and before Luna had a fanbase. She was meant to be a one-shot character. They want to add her in now because of the demand, but the stuff we're watching all was made before that demand existed.
When we see episodes that were made after the fanbase exploded (which should mean the rest of se02), We'll probably start seeing more Luna.
Hopefully.
No Luna. Discord was discarded after two episodes even though he's the best antagonist the show has had as of yet. Storyline seemed pretty rushed, especially near the beginning of Part 1 and the end of Part 2. Twilight waving her horn and fixing everything was a little disappointing too.
ReplyDeleteStill, it was pretty good. I'm thinking Season 2 will be better than Season 1.
Now that was a hilarious episode, I loved how all of them were fighting and arguing, Flutterbitch is just too damn funny. But i have to say I'm happy to have them back being their proper selves. Epic ending on giving Discord a taste of how powerful their friendship really is.
ReplyDeleteWell that was the expected end. See ya never Discord.
ReplyDeleteThis show is better off without villians.
Still love Flutterjerk and Greedity
@Mistaque
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm calling this. He was jumped by Twilight and Friends because as much as he's the embodiment of Chaos, it cuts both ways, so they got the drop on him, and he really couldn't do that much about it.
Though I was kinda hoping for him putting up some resistance to the Rainbow of Light, it fits character that he doesn't. Chaotic Evil is Chaotic, after all.
Also, my head canon is that Luna's on psychological leave, sorting herself out before she comes back to the throne proper, and is exempt from all royal duties. We never see her because she's more or less afraid of being tied to a stick and being burned, after the whole "eternal night" thing, and if she had it her way, we wouldn't see her until at least a couple generations go by.
Rainbow Dash, a fax machine and R2D2.
ReplyDeleteWho would have known Spike could be so many things?
@Quilton Yeah, I'm aware Luna is a, "What Happened to the Mouse?" type character.
ReplyDeletehttp://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WhatHappenedToTheMouse
Thing is, I can't believe anyone working on the show thought that way. At the beginning, there's only "Two" Alicorn (Pegasus/Unicorn) princesses. Plus, her story isn't one of, "She deserved it" more tragic.
It's the fuse the lit the powder keg of her fanbase. I can't believe they missed it happening but yes, your explanation makes sense.
I know many ponies are upset Discord is gone, but come on now, this is a kids show. Sure, Twilight came off as such an arrogant bitch in this episode, but she's good, blah blah blah.
ReplyDeleteGreat episode, but now we must endure another weekend without ponies before episode 3.
ReplyDeleteAwesome <3
ReplyDeleteIt was certainly a relief to see the Mane Six get back to their proper colours and behaviours, but yeah...the 22-minute slot made things rush by necessity.
ReplyDeleteOn that note, with regards to my Pony Psychology series of fics: Woo! Unicorn-Horn Electroshock Therapy is now canon! Woo! Spellbound's denouement doesn't seem so quick and easy NOW, does it? :D Also, check out Trixie: Treasure - the ending has been updated!
*ahem*..leaving unworthy self-link mode now.
I love Discord's throwaway toony moves - like the exploding chocolate milk - and his unremitting arrogant gloating.
It wasn't so much him carrying an idiot ball at the end as him being UNBELIEVABLY confident the whole time.
Why even give them a riddle than CAN be answered? He essentially dangled his demise in their faces and then got shocked when he got ELEMENT'D. Stereotypical archivillain behaviour taken to 11. Nothing wrong with that.
Lastly, with regards to Luna...
they might just be planning to make her nocturnal, now that I think about it. She might have been awake at the end of S1E2, but that could have just been for the sake of the celebration. Either that, or yeah, they're saving her for an actual ROLE instead of a walk-on.
And now to suffer through withdrawal for the next couple weeks. *shakes, shudders, kicks*
My only problem was that this should've been a three-parter, so we could've had more time for things like unDiscording the ponies and the battle vs. Discord.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, this was pretty awesome and now I eagerly await the rest of the season.
That episode was amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteSure, It was rushed, but dammit it was worth every second, I mean, this time we managed to see the interactions between the altered ponies, which was quite amazing considering that we never seen them act like that.
And the animation, that spectacular animation, it goes to show that apparently they have more budget for this season.
Overall, I'm quite pleased with the two parter, specially because of Discord, and to all the bronies bitching about the small things or the lack of a better story: this is still a show aimed at young girls, so if you expect something like fallout equestria or any other dark fanfic, better switch fandoms, because that day will never come.
@Nos
ReplyDeleteNope, I caught it. Someone, ANYone-- make a vid with the actual Star Wars music over this. Please?
@Altherix
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling no one really expected the show to take off the way it has. Comments from Lauren Faust and others show time and time again that they are completely baffled by how many people love this show and what those people get attached to (Pinkamina, Derpy, etc).
Heck, we've made massive fanbases dedicated to random background characters like Colgate Lyra and BonBon. It's taking them time to adjust to it I think. It'll be interesting to see what the show looks like by the time it gets to the inevitable season 3.
I feel like they should have kept it in season 1. the letter pat really would have tied it in as a conclusion to the season.
ReplyDeleteI was Dissapointed :/ I think it went to easy. Wouldnt mind another "To be continued"
ReplyDelete@Quilton I hear that.
ReplyDeleteVery good episode overall! Ending did feel a tad rushed and no Luna, although who would want to see Luna when you've got Her Magnificent Majesty Princess Celestia?
ReplyDeleteThey really laid it on thick in this one, and I LIKED it! Ahhhh lohhhhht.
ReplyDeleteMay the Horse be with you.™
I liked the episode overall, but I do have one major gripe about the plot.
ReplyDeleteI found it disappointing that, ultimately, Twilight single-hoofedly saved the day. Sure, Discord was defeated with the power of friendship only after the gang was reunited, but Twilight was the only one who has the willpower to reunite them in the first place. Don't get me wrong, it was a really nice display of willpower and leadership, but in my humble opinion, it was an insult to the rest of the Mane cast that they were unable to help themselves at all. It was jarring to see a complete absence of heroic willpower on their part.
Now, I realize that if they were able to help themselves, without the assistance of their friends, it would undermine the message that friendship is the most valuable thing of all. So Twilight did have to have a major role in their victory. But I think her role was too big, and her efforts crowded out those of her friends.
It would be a bigger testament to their friendship if Twilight's spell only partially cured them, and they had to display the same amount of willpower as Twilight did to keep the discord from taking over again. Once they were all back together, the elements would be able to cure them completely. (It makes sense; it wouldn't work the first time because Dash wasn't there.)
@Spikely Whiplash
ReplyDeleteI think they did have to. Think about it: Twilight's spell wasn't just an instant cure. She was just making them remember, and they did have to have the willpower to take those memories and overcome Discord's spell with them.
@Quilton No she wasn't did you not see Laurens interview where she said what Luna was supposed to be?
ReplyDelete@Spikely Whiplash I agree with your assessment, and personally would have liked it better if each pony would have overcome her own personal demons, so to speak.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I suspect they went this route to reinforce the Twilight's status as the Pony Messiah, The One Free Pony, The Opener Of The Way, She Whom Bringeth Eternal Harmony Unto Equestria.
KNEEEL BEFORE TWILIGHT!
wonder how long it will take for the 1st 2 to show up without all the logo crap in them?
ReplyDelete@Spikely Whiplash
ReplyDeleteActually I thought Twi saving the day was smart.
The S1 opener was pretty much her running around and being useless without her friends. S2 established that she wasn't just a...focal point..for the other 5. They needed her just as much. It seemed an intentional inverse of S1, and I liked it.
@Enrique262
ReplyDeleteThank you. I really enjoyed this episode was well because it did wrap up the first one nicely. Everything came together as the friendship between the ponies ultimately prevailed. That's means that they are going to keep the premise and innocent of the show.
My biggest fear is them making it something grimdark.
@moocow1452
ReplyDelete>Also, my head canon is that Luna's on psychological leave
Oh my gosh! Now I'm envisioning Luna stuck at the pony equivalent of Arkham Asylum, kept on meds by the unscrupulous Dr. Mare Practice to bilk more bits out of the royal treasury, since the money will stop if she is cured.
Only downside: no song :(
ReplyDeleteBut this episode was awesome! Nothing better than to watch the newest MLP after a day of hard work.
@Woof Hooves
ReplyDeleteProbably a long time. To get them like that it's through iTunes, which charges $3 dollars and episode. That's an outrage for some.
I couldnt stop myself from playing with photoshop a bit. I bet the actual artists could probably do better ;)
ReplyDeletehttp://dl.dropbox.com/u/16123728/RainbowSpike.png
This episode was awesome, shame the end was so rushed.
ReplyDeleteAnd is it bad that i was cheering for Discord?
@quicksilver
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It just feels so perfect.
Season start:
Twilight: I don't need friends.
Celestia: Make friends lol.
Twilight: Now I have friends.
Nightmare Moon: Blargh I am defeated.
Twilight: Now I will study friendship.
Season end:
Twilight: I don't need friends.
Celestia: Here are your friendship reports.
Twilight: Oh Celestia I was wrong and will now make up with my friends.
Discord: Blargh I am defeated.
Twilight: Now I have BFF.
Also, anyone notice how Applejack was the only pony to get a flashback before breaking out of her corruption? I wish they had more time to do that with everypony. That would have made it an even better summation of the first season.
I think that this is the first time I've noticed the voice similarity between Twilight and Timmy Turner.
ReplyDelete@Altherix
ReplyDeleteShe's invisibly in every episode, like Claude from Heroes, or invisible dinasaur hed.
That, and Habsro has a leash on her since she represents desire and isolation to the flip side to Celestia's full tilt on friendship and magic.
Oh man, I couldn't wake myself up this morning to catch the episode on Hub, but this was a fantastic episode...maybe my favorite? Flutterbitch was amazing (all of them were!) and I actually kinda teared up when Twilight turned grey because she had lost all her friends. DisQord was the best ever: DISCORD RULES, CELESTIA DROOLS.
ReplyDelete@MudPuppy
ReplyDeletePerhaps they could have made their willpower more apparent by having Discord start to re-corrupt them in the final battle, only for them to defiantly un-re-corrupt themselves.
@Quilton
You have a good point, though I still maintain that they should have shown some signs of fighting from the inside.
50,000,000 types of AWESOME :D
ReplyDeleteI love how 6 rocks can defeat not 1, but 2 demi-gods...
ReplyDeleteI'm fine with it, but the way Discord was defeated seemed a little convenient, even from the standards of the last 2 parter.
And I will also say it was epic, and not what I was expecting.
I understand that time restraint was an issue when writing the script, but I'm still pretty darn miffed about a lot of things in the episode.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, though. I loved the Discord versions of the ponies, Discord himself, the use of the letters to reinvigorate Twilight and the animation sequence they used in destroying discord was pretty darn cool, but at the end of the episode I wasn't thinking "that was a good episode." ESPECIALLY after the Phantom Menace-esque ending (I HATE that movie).
The first half of the episode was awesome, but after Twilight gets a hold of her letters to Celestia there are a few scenes that bothered me. Why use the "memory spell" when it'd be way more appropriate for Twilight to effectively teach her friends to be good ponies again by reminding them the lessons she learned? Why have a pointless chase Rainbow Dash scene when that time could have been used more effectively? Why does Discord not notice that the mane 6 are back to their normal selves in a scene that exemplifies the Idiot Ball?
WHERES THE 1080p!!!??
ReplyDeleteThe episode was adequate. I felt it could have been better, but unlike a lot of other people here, I am keeping in mind that **I AM NOT IN THE TARGETED DEMOGRAPHIC**. Female, yes, but way older than 6-to-12.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing a lot of people here seem not to understand is that a season opener is always set up to introduce the show to new viewers. A lot of people tend to jump in at the start of a new season, so the studio will always pack in as much character-plus-action as they can. Otherwise, the new viewers can end up lost and bored, which means they don't continue watching.
So for the season opener of a show targeted at young girls, it was perfectly adequate.
@7-Tor
ReplyDelete~"ESPECIALLY after the Phantom Menace-esque ending (I HATE that movie)."~
You have no idea how hard you just made me hit my head on my desk, or how sad I am for you young whipper snappers.
Both Pony and the end of Phantom Menace are referencing this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSZB0NjRqzc
My main problem with the episode can from thinking this was a premiere to the New Season instead of a finale to the last one. That and probably having too high expectations.
ReplyDeleteI predicted Twilight would fall to Discords spell, so Twilight Sparkless actually came true. Also, the letters about friendship was perfect. My complaint about the last episode was Celestia not seeming to do anything to help the Mane 6 out, turns out, she was gathering all the letters Twilight had sent to her to help her get through Discord traps. Discords riddle as to where the Elements are is actually quite Meta as well, what was the first thing in the series we saw? That's right, the origin book, and that's where they were stored.
Discord certainly got a little too cocky after Deharmonizing/Discording Twilight, he basically said Game Won after that moment and started celebrating his rule of chaos. After seeing the Elements fail once, he probably wrote them off as a none-threat. He probably still does as well. It only seems to Imprison him, and he probably doesn't seem to mind too much about it, he'll get out again eventually to start another rule of Chaos. And with this, he still can. Remember, popularity keeps the character in. So If Discord is popular enough, he will come back.
Problems I have are the Crusaders very little involvement in the episode. They are the one thing that don't really... fit. If this is seen as a finale. What did they really contribute? They let out Discord (Atleast that is what it seems) and that's it. They are the one thing that don't fit into these episodes. I was thinking they would be the ones to defeat Discord due to the Cutie Mark symbols in the last episode, turns out that's not the case and probably accounted for most of my disappointment as I was thinking it would go in another direction.
Also, yes no Luna, Weird she isn't there, but I assume they have plans for her in Season 2 proper instead. The Letters to Princess Celestia was the center point, so no need for Luna to show up since she didn't recieve the letters. And I believe there are far greater plans for her. This has to be the case, look how often she is showing up in the merchandise. She IS coming back, it was simply decided, no need for her. I can't judge it until I see how Luna is when she shows up again. Maybe all those Years on the Moon as Nightmare Moon shaked her, and we can find out when she does show up. The only cautionary tale means that Discord is probably not planned for the next season. He could be returned for a Movie though, as antagonists go, he is the fan favourite by a margin, so he would be the villain to go to for a movie when the series gets one (Be it a TV Movie, DVD Movie or Theatrical movie). The only concern that he might not reappear is, again, Luna. Who hasn't appeared since Episode 2. So... I say just wait. We haven't had long enough to tell what is going to happen.
If there is one true complaint I have it's this. In the first season 2 parter, we had a song by Pinkie Pie telling us. I was hoping maybe there would be a song for Discord or Twilight in this episode, just so everyone new would know that yes, there are songs. However they obviously put focus into the Instrumental music in this episode instead. To the point where the standard end credits where replaced with a different piece of music. So, Hub decide to Cut Away and advertise another show during this moment. WHY? I wanted to hear that song, and yet I couldn't because of it, if there is something planned in the credits. Don't cut away and mute the credits! Thankfully we will get whatever played then eventually (hopefully) but it still bothers me when any tv station does this...
Now the wait till Season 2 proper start with Episode 3. Who knows what's happening. All we know is that a new intro song is going to be with it, but everything else is unknown. Heck, there may be another 2 Parter! I can't wait, but we still don't know which day it will air on. And that makes me sad...
Hehe. I liked "New Rainbow Dash."
ReplyDeleteGuys, Discord drinks glass at about 18:36...
ReplyDelete@Killsteal_Wolf
ReplyDeleteDan posted on Twitter that it's not going to so much be a "new" opening theme as much as it is a "remastered" version.
And so Star Trek's Q was defeated with the Magic of Star Wars.
ReplyDeleteAwesome episode!
ReplyDeleteOver a barrel is the episode that has made me laugh the most so far, (bloomberg and applejack, fluttershy wanting to be a tree, horse-drawn horse-drawn carriages, mild west dances, etc.), but with this one now I'm not really sure.
ReplyDelete@NDupree93
ReplyDeleteWell it represents that something new is going to happen. There might even be a new intro animation as well to go with it, maybe featuring the Crusaders or something. Don't know, but still possible.
That's also why I think Season 2 doesn't truly start until Episode 3. These 2 truly feel like Season 1 Finale episode. With the remastered intro song, everything new about the season will probably be in that episode. For example, what further lessons does Twilight have to send to Celestia now, what if she now has to send letters to Luna and teach her about friendship after her 1000 years as Nightmare Moon. It's a possibility. We just have to wait till the next part now in 1, 2, 3 weeks... maybe...
@Phil Srobeighn Against the power of Midichlorians there can be no victory.
ReplyDeleteActually, I like this more than the season's one two-ep (but s1's of course was great too). Well, even more actually I love this one!
ReplyDeleteI loved this episode to tears. The jokes were fantastic, and they were EVERYWHERE! Flutterbitch was just one of the highlights, as many before me cited.
ReplyDeleteI gotta admit, I was a little disappointed at the rushed resolution for Discord. But then the 'Gardens of Equestria' happened, and all was well for me. ^.^
So the current speed ranking of ponies are as follow
ReplyDelete1. Pinkie Pie - Her physic defying characteristics allow her to be at multiple places at the same time
2. Twilight Sparkle - Because Teleportation > Fly
3. Fluttershy - Fastest flyer in Equestria
4. Rainbow Dash - Second fastest flyer in Equestria
5. Applejack - Actually not too sure how fast she runs
6. Rarity - Because Kung Fu Master don't run from anything
Conclusion: Why is Rainbow Dash so SLOWWWWW?
@AdamRB
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. This would have been much better as a full-length movie instead of two 22 minute shows.
Anyone else think we need Derpy/Ditsy x Screwball Shipping or is it just me?
ReplyDelete@Kurogo Oh snap, my bad. Whenever I think of Star Wars I automatically latch onto Episode 1 and how much I loath it. That and I haven't seen A New Hope since I was, like, 13. :P
ReplyDeleteWell, this episode is pretty good and though I do share a few complaints with this, it doesn't really detract from how good this second part is.
ReplyDeleteAlso inb4DiamondTiara'smom.
I NEED MORE PONY. What the hell do i do??!!
ReplyDeleteGreat episode.
ReplyDeleteDiscord is awesome (but stupid of course... as a villain) villain ;)
Animation is perfect, simply perfect
Evil-Mane6 behavior is extremely hilarious :)
And now, few weeks for another episode :(
Am I the only person that started stressing out more and more as the episode went on? XD
ReplyDeleteonce again another awesome episode. I found myself laughing quite a lot through this episode. Tis a shame we have to wait even more for the rest of season 2 but it'll be worth while. also I have max respect for twilight she is a truly awesome pony :D. actually all 6 of them are awesome anyways.
ReplyDeleteI watched this at BroNYCon with about 300 other pony fans in the audience.
ReplyDeleteIt was the most awesome experience ever. The cheering was so loud I had slight hearing loss. :)
BRONIES FOREVER
Hell yea! I loves you equestria daily!
ReplyDeletePony bondage is now canon. Phoe must be pleased
ReplyDeleteWell that was certainly an entertaining episode. Not perfect, no, but assuredly in a higher tier than most. While I am left feeling somewhat disappointed I think it's more of that deflated, 'after-Christmas' type of feeling now that so much mounding anticipation has petered out rather than actual disappointment with the episode itself. After all there's only so much the production team can do story-wise within a given 22-minute time frame, and I think, considering what they had to work with, they did a very admirable job. So yes.
ReplyDeleteAnd while I'm sure people will say I'm biased, karate Rarity bringing the beatdown on a teasing Applejack was absolutely the best moment of that episode (really a shame in a way, seeing as how that was in the very first sequence). Classic. XD All of the corrupted ponies were fabulous to watch in their anarchy though, as was Twilight in her near-futile attempts to deal with them (maniacally-sarcastic Twilight is undoubtedly best Twilight; she was hilarious in this episode). Add to that Rarity giving her rock a gender and name, some beautifully touching moments with Twilight looking back on her friendship lessons of the first season, and exploding chocolate milk and you pretty much have the workings for a brilliant episode. Kudos FiM team, I can't wait to see what you have in store for us next. ^.^
For people who are confused at the latest episode, or don't get it the first time, you should watch the episode twice before making final thoughts. I did that, once for the enjoyment, and the other for clarification, and looking at some easter eggs.
ReplyDelete* Has anyone noticed that Canterlot just got chipped off from the mountain at around 11:35-11:40? Imagine all the other places in Equestria that were messed up by Discord's intentions. That's practically potential fanart I say!
* I also liked the messed-up day and night transition.
* I find that Princess Celestia sending back all the friendship reports back to Twilight Sparkle was very clever - it fits in Celestia's character, and it's a way for the writers to say, "See? Those letters SERVED a purpose!"
* There's a lot more nifty picks hidden in those scenes, we just need to take a second look and pause the video.
For the people who thought it was rushed, it's more fast-paced than rushed. Rushed is more leaning towards incompleteness.
yay! I loved it.
ReplyDeletebut I lost Tom! :(
Pinkie pie could never hate chocolate rain!
ReplyDeleteI also liked the day and night transition.
and also, soap roads. SOAP. ROADS.
So, who thinks Spike is Rainbow Dash will become a meme?
ReplyDeleteStill no Luna I see. Well, as GLaDOS put it:
ReplyDelete"It would be funny, if it weren't so sad."
Overall it's still a great episode, even if a little cheesy.
Also, Twilight's still a walking mcguffin.
I'm probably going to get flamed for this but...
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else fell that its actually pretty mean to put him BACK in stone? I mean they could have just banished him somewhere else so he can screw IT over.
@Nic386
ReplyDeleteWhere exactly could they banish him that he couldn't just pop back whenever he felt like it?
My only gripe was that discord didn't try to fight back when it was fairly obvious that they were restored and Had the elements, instead he just stood there again thinking they were still powerless.
ReplyDeleteStill, awesome episode though!
So.... Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI laughed so hard! This episode was AMAZING!
There were only two things I was a bit disappointed in, and that was
1. No Luna
2. Discord turned back into stone
Besides that, it was more then I could have ever imagined. This has made my entire day, and I can barely wait for the new season!
New conflict! New stories! New characters! New opening! New new things!
FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC!
Brony out.
lol WITH BIG MACINTOSH HE LICKED TWILIGHT LERL!!! THIS EPISODE WAS HILAROUSSSS!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I love Fluttershy more than before
ReplyDeleteThe 1080p download is now up on ponyarchive.org, but as mp4
ReplyDeleteI hope they'll upload it in mkv as I like it.
also, does anyone know where to find english subtitles for the new season?
I have two things to say about it:
ReplyDeleteOne, my heart had been broken into five pieces before Twilight turned back to normal.
Two. I thought it was good before these aired. The GGG was a good season ending. Then when I took this and attached it to the rest of season 1, it pushed the show to reach a new level. I can see why it was originally the season 1 finale, and why they'd be so disappointed it would be delayed half a year and made season 2.
Who knows, I might give a marathon a chance someday now.
As always, the more I watch it, the more I like it.
ReplyDelete"Hey Twilight? What's soaking wet and clueless?"
"Fluttershy, I've had just about enough of..."
"YOUR FACE!"
^-- best part!
"Keep Away" is still painful to watch—reminds me a little too much of the pain of experiencing it. :( But other than that my only complaint is Discord not putting up much of a fight at the end.

BRONY, I got up at 6 to see the Washington premiere! which I realize that I'm not the only one but for me to sneak downstairs past my parents room that early to what ponies is AWESOME! And the new episode was AMAZING dude i was so excited and when Fluttershy was like "THAT BIG MEANY?!?!?!!?" I almost lost it I was literally FREAKING out!
ReplyDeleteI just saw it, and I loved it!
ReplyDelete@Mr Nutt
ReplyDeleteYou ask that like it hasn't already.
I agree that the plot would have filled a threeparter. Some stuff deserved a bit more elaborating.
ReplyDeleteWell the Star Wars scene is becoming a tradition. The first season had 'We blew up the Death Star/the Trade Federation Control ship, let's party!' while this episode had the traditional 'March of the Republic' from A New Hope. Of course, Discord's voice being done by John De Lancie, and they even lampshade it by having him doing a trademark Q teleport at around 19:20 amongst others. So Star Trek got a hit in too. Oh it was so satisfying to see Discord get stoned. It's like kneeing Q in the crotch in Star Trek:Borg.
ReplyDelete@NDupree93 Oh right, I only just saw it on the Friendship is Magic memes page on TV Tropes.
ReplyDeleteThis two-parter was awesome. A Great comedy scenes, great villain and great final. good way to start seasons 2.
ReplyDeleteI probably deserve the brony-hell for this but I’ll miss Flutterbitch even more than Discord. Seeing the cute, quiet and kind Fluttershy acting like a “big meanie” that would put Gilda to shame was incredible funny. She even beats Flutterrage. Can’t wait to see the tons of Fan art involving Flutterbitch. And speaking about Fan art…
Poor Rarity. Of course, everybody will speak about it again as long as the show lasts. As soon as she called the rock Tom, I knew that it would become a new meme. So how are we calling this new “ship”? Raritom? Tomity?
The moment Twilight turned grey was really shocking, didn’t saw that coming. Neither that Celestia would free her be using all the friendship reports. At least she did something. However, I wonder if she’s really as powerful as most Fan Fics portray her. Maybe her only special powers are raising the sun/ moon and immortality?
So Discord is gone (for good?) but I hope we see more villains of this caliber. He was smart, funny and a real threat. NMM used scary trees; this guy twisted the personalities of the whole Mane cast.
Some things I'm noticing on my fourth viewing. At 11:03 or so, there's a brown pony with yellow mane and a Palm Tree cutie mark who walks along the borders of the screen.
ReplyDeleteThere's the already mentioned Screw Ball pony right after that
Then When Discord talks to Twilight directly after that, his head goes left, but when what SHOULD be his tail comes on screen from the right, it's his head. Clearly Discord has mastered Pinkie Pie's 4th wall destroying powers.
INSANE FAN THEORY TIME!
ReplyDeleteDiscord's body is turned to stone but his spirit escaped into Pinkie Pie through her element of Laughter (his favorite). Eons ago when he was first sealed away Luna was using the element of Laughter and Discored escaped into her, turning her into Nightmare Moon after a while!!
As far as the episode itself goes, very good overall, though the same pacing issue from last time, and lack of Luna.
When Spike said that him being RD wouldn't end well, I thought "Something just became canon."
ReplyDeleteRETURN OF HARMONY=RETURN OF THE JEDI??? I THINK MY HEART JUST EXPLODED!!!!!
ReplyDelete@Sunspark They could banish him and then throw him in a dungeon in the place that they banished him to.
ReplyDeleteI want to know who that pegasus pony with the rainbow mane was that took Rainbow Dash's place at the end there. And where Spike went halfwayish through the episode. One minute he was there, next Rainbow Dash was.
ReplyDeleteAll joking over the next inevitable meme aside, I quite liked the episode, Star Wars and all. Sure, it was pretty rushed, but hey, it was nice and actiony, and a real season closer for Season 1, not a start for Season 2. Now I just have to watch both episodes once a day to keep myself from going insane over the lack of the actual Season 2 start until at minimum two weeks from now.
@DashAttack Nope, I totally did, too. once Twi went grey, I was freakin' out a bit.
ReplyDeleteBut all is well, so I'm a whole lot better, now.
on a side note, does anyone here think that maybe Rarity's Magic can't find Diamonds? I went back and the only things they were digging up were colored gems, and the inside of the "Dumb rock' was all colored, too. Maybe that is why her fantasy Stallion giving her a diamond, and "Tom" were such a big deal?
If anyone knows a shot where it shows something that's a diamond, I'll be cool, but right now, I am going to mentally equate diamonds with "still being rare" even in Equestria.
Y'know that someponys want a MLP:FIM movie? I think we just got it. I can't imagine that being topped.
ReplyDeleteplus side: -no gray ponies
ReplyDelete-star wars reference
-flutterbiTCH
-spike barfing letters
minus side: -no luna
-too fast
-WE NEED TO WAIT UNTIL THE REST OF SEASON TWO AIRS!!!!! FUUUUUUUUUU!!!
Is that Scootaloo flying at 11:38?
ReplyDelete@Missinghomebrony
ReplyDeleteI almost shed a single tear when Twilight turned grey, lol
Well, there's a HIGH chance nobody will see this, but what the heck:
ReplyDeleteThe episode was wonderful, but I have to agree it was waaaay too rushed. This could have EASILY been a three-parter TV movie.
Discord... Oh, God, I've was never so sorry to see a character go. He is now in my personal top 10 of most awesome villians ever. Heck, it would have been awesome if he would have been "allowed to stay" but in his own domail... say, the "Everchaos Forest"? That would have been awesome.
Luna... No Luna. I mean, come on, not even a glimpse of her! I am reaaaaally beginning to wonder if Luna wasn't sent back to the moon. What are you chuckling at, Trollestia?
All in all, a GREAT start for season 2. Rushed, yes. Should have been longer, yes. Should have been Luna, yes. Discord *could* have stayed, HECK YES. Awesome? ABSOLUTELY.
Well done, show. Well done.
Oh god, the ending was Star Wars. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't know what to think about that episode.
ReplyDeleteOn one hand, it was pretty hysterical. I was consistently smiling throughout, but something about the humor was... different. It seems like that it was more appropriate for an older audience. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, it just felt... weird.
I'm a creature of habit and not a huge fan of change. I didn't mind the new comedic aspect from the episode, because everything was a bit out of whack, with the presence of Discord and all. I just hope that once the rest of season two is under way, it kind of falls back into the same feel that season one had.
I don't know if what I'm saying makes sense to anyone else.
That episode was hilarious. Probably the most fun of them all so far. And can we ask for much more?
ReplyDeleteI think the creators really did the best they could, given the format they had to work with. Yes, it could have been longer, more epic, Discord could have been a bigger threat, but I don't think My Little Pony was ever going for one of those goals. Discord felt like a lot of wasted potential, but really, most good villains do when they inevitably go down in their stories - Discord just had the misfortune to star in a short one.
Twilight using a "memory spell" (Flashback is Magic apparently, just like in shounen) was cheesy, but not really implausible. And she didn't break Discord's influence by herself too, she also had to recall her memories by reading the letters.
My complaint? Damn, Spike had to go through lots of undeserved crap in this episode without even a "sorry" in the end.
So yeah, could have been better, but it's the high point of the show as it is. Can't wait for more.
I've watched the episode a few times; and all I feel I need to say is this:
ReplyDeleteIf Screwball pony doesn't catch on at least a little, I'm going to feel very sad.
I think Karate Rarity was also using the Crane Kick on Applejack. So there's another shout out.
ReplyDeleteActually, I kind of like the balls on Discord to just let them take their shots at him. I especially liked that slight look of doubt the first time when they actually managed to levitate and glow before fizzing out... There was a slight bit of "wait... Crap, is this actually going to work?" in his expression that helped set up his arrogance the second time. And with that one, I loved that he was fooled by his own handiwork... When AJ told him he couldn't keep them apart for long, he scoffed because, by his handiwork, that must be a lie.
ReplyDeleteIve really enjoyed the episode and like really i do, but i would rather wait until someone uploads a freshly made video of 1080p which yes i know its uploaded already but also some of the captions and mostly from whats labeled from the television kinda what i meant to say asking.
ReplyDeleteTic Tic Tic
ReplyDeleteThis thing on?
OK... about Spike being Rainbow Dash / Fax Machine / R2D2....
A) When Twilight Sparkle activates the Elements of Harmony, all the ponies levitate...
But not Spike. Of course it wouldn't work without Rainbow Dash and
most of the ponies corrupted.
B) Spike magically faxes messages to and from Princess Celestia using
his magic smoke.
An earlier episode shows small objects can also be teleported.
Unlike real-world fax machines, the ORIGINAL is sent and received, as
shown by the Grand Galloping Gala tickets.
PS: Your computer uses magic smoke. Should smoke come out it will
stop working.
C) As Droids, C3PO and R2D2 had to watch the Star Wars: A New Hope medal ceremony from the visitors area.
As a non-equine, Spike had to watch the stained glass window unveiling
from the side.
Tossing my hat in with the disappointed crowd again. Kids show or not, that was a pretty lame, and not to mention, anti-climatic way to wrap things up (on the same level as the Dragonshy episode). This just made me feel even more like it was supposed to be a three parter but scheduling forced them to trim it to a 2 at the last second. Any meaningful development or interaction just got rushed through and/or skipped past.
ReplyDeleteHad some good moments, but there was just so much wasted potential all over it just leaves me wondering why the creative team didn't fight to make sure they could do everything possible with it. Push an episode from this season into next if you have to, just make sure that you don't waste 2 by trying to squeeze 3 into it.
"necklace, necklace, necklace, necklace, crown thingie." and "Spike, you're the new rainbow dash." were the best quotes imo.
ReplyDelete@Saddlesoap
ReplyDeleteDiscord *wanted* them to find the Elements eventually, he knew their failing would be the final straw that would break Twilight. What he didn't expect is that she could get better.
Hmm. "Marechiavellian?" Gotta get those horse puns in every chance you get.
ReplyDelete@NovaFortuna
ReplyDeleteAll slice of life all the time gets boring after a while, I think every so often you need a real antagonist to shake things up a bit.
This is probably my favorite episode now
ReplyDeleteThis was hilarious and cool and kinda dark!
ReplyDeleteHaters gon hate...
@MiColt
ReplyDeleteI certainly wasn't disappointed - I think this is probably my favourite episode of FiM so far. That said, I agree that there was some wasted potential.
Like people are saying, Discord should have put up a bit more of a fight (would also have been nice to not just turn him to stone and have him become like an unpredictable neutral faction in future episodes), but I barely noticed that at the time, surprising though it may seem. In fact, what I think could have used more development was 'turning back' all of the other ponies - Twilight's letter-reading bit was maybe my favourite bit of the episode, and Dash had a cool segment of being turned back, but everyone else got pretty much glossed over, which was a shame.
So yeah, a third part, allowing each pony to get a decent length scene to turn them back and giving Discord a more convincing demise would have made things a bit better, but I don't know how well it would have worked with the viewing schedule: stretching it over 3 weeks might have lessened the impact and made it a bit too drawn out. In an ideal world, I would have had it be a three-parter and aired them back-to-back. Also Discord would have been defeated, leaving them to rebuild things, but he wouldn't have been petrified, instead going elsewhere and perhaps turning up as a neutral faction later on (the whole way he was acting, especially at the end when he just sat there) implied he kind of expected the game to end eventually and just wanted a bit of fun, but he seemed pretty averse to being turned to stone.
I will forever remember Discord drinking the glass from the chocolate milk and tossing it, randomly exploding behind him.
ReplyDelete@Muffinsforever
ReplyDeleteRofl, yeah, I had to pause the video to laugh at that. And a bunch of other points, but that was one of the highlights.
everything about the episode was wonderful, but I was really hoping that discord would notice when he'd lost, and escape; becoming an intermittent character in future episodes just like Q in star trek. :(
ReplyDeleteI mean, we saw in the first part that he was too smart to make the blunders he made in the second part
@StyxD
ReplyDeleteWhy are people acting like Discord's gone for good? Pony please. You saw De Lancie's twitter. Discord will trope his way out of that stone prison sooner or later.
That was... good, but rather rushed and disappointing. There were some hilarious scenes, yet the continuation didn't made up for the first part's exposition and cliffhanger, and that was a very lousy closure, if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteOverall, nicely done.
I'll start with listing my complaints, to get the negative out of the way.
ReplyDelete-Pacing. I'm not convinced they had enough stuff to fill a third episode, so I think just an extra 8 minutes could have helped. Not a deal breaker for me though.
-Discord catching the villain ball at the end. Sure he was certain that the Mane 6 were done for and unable to beat him, but he had a few seconds to tell that things were about to go wrong, and he didn't try to do anything? I mean, sure I knew he had to go, but couldn't he have gone out with a fight?
Yeah, those are my only complaints I think.
The good!
-Dialogue: the scenes with the Discord'd Mane 6 were gold, especially as Twilight started losing it. Seriously, flawless. If we get more lines like we did in this episode for the rest of the series, I will be a very happy pony.
-Discord: I just love Chaos done right, and this was Chaos done right. Discord, can you come to our world and take over? Please? Just so long as you don't mess with my brain, I'm all good with that, really.
-Star Wars ending. I geeked.
-Tom. Already a meme, and now he gets a name? It's like they knew we'd latch onto this.
-Anything else I haven't mentioned.
Now, onto the Luna Lovers. Now, I'm planted clearly on the side of the Lunar Republic, but seriously, did anyone really think we'd get Luna in this episode? Ok, expecting a cameo is acceptable, but do we really have to cry out "EPISODE Y U NO LUNA"? Look at how much of a role Celestia has been given. Excepting any episode where the focus is on them, we shouldn't expect much out of Alicorns. They're not meant to be the main focus.
That episode was simply fantastic! I cried so much when Twilight lost her color...
ReplyDeleteThe resolution of the episode actually reminded me somewhat of the Pony Psychology fanfic. The ending felt like it could have been extended (had time permitted), but it didn't unnecessarily drag it out either.
Like almost everyone (I'm sure), I'm quite interested to see what they have planned for episode 3.
@Muffinsforever
ReplyDeleteDid you notice that when he held the glass in the rain, it filled from the top down?
"I'm just wondering if I can hold you down against your will for a little bit?"
ReplyDeletebest line ever and fluttershys expresion was SOOOO adorable it made me almost fall off my bed laughing
YAY! I saw this live when it first aired, but didn't have a chance to comment till now. I LOVED IT!
ReplyDeleteThis episode was AWESOME fun! I love the little dance number Granny Smith did.
I LOVE the little subtle things like Discord drinking the glass itself, and discarding its contents (and them subsequently exploding XD).
I can see where people seem to say it was a bit rushed. To be honest, though, you could give me a 88 minutes of Pony and it would still never be enough. These characters are just so much FUN! There all kinds of neat things one can explore with them.
I really missed my ponies. :D
(And no worries, Luna WILL be back in future episodes!)
Well, I do agree that there were a couple things like Discord being defeated so easily and that it would have been better with a couple minutes extra. besides that...
ReplyDeleteI CAN'T BELIEVE HOW AMAZING THIS EPISODE WAS! I laughed more then any other episode yet! This was a stunningly amazing job and I think they exceeded my expectations!
And for all you Luna lovers. I was a bit sad Luna wasn't there, but I trust the animators not to have her as some sister that only appeared once. Cross your hooves, guys, because we still have a LOT more episodes to go.
So all together, AWESOME episode. I am so so happy with it, and I can't wait for more! Keep up the awesome work MLP FIM Team!!!!!!!!! xD
Italian subs, ready! YEEHAW!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qwl81McJQU
There were so many wonderful gems in this! I watched it again, and had to watch a few scenes a few times because there are a lot of great jokes.
ReplyDeleteThere was a pony with a screw and a ball cutie mark, and I LAUGHED when I realized that! The little sound effects here and there, like when Discord is clapping!
I loved this so much. It's fun and playful romp I expect of MLP:FIM, and still manages to do it in its own successful way!
I absolutely cannot wait for episode 2x03! =D
I hope rest of the season 2 isn't as...
ReplyDelete...different as the first 2 episodes. Episodes were rushed, characters were ooc and the whole thing just felt different.
Expecialy the ending of the second episode felt bad. Discord didin't even try to fight back.
The end of each of the season openers is a parallel to the end of a Star Wars movie. The end of Elements Part 2 was the same as the end of SW Episode 1, and this ending was the same as SW Episode 4. I think Faust is a Star Wars fan.
ReplyDeleteF**king internet ate my post.
ReplyDeleteThe gist of it was:
-I was dissapointed because the season two pilot felt like a rather weak magical girl anime. Twilight waving her horn and making everything better felt like a copout and No-Selling Discord at the end was unsatisfying.
-The character interaction is still great, and the jokes are as good as ever. "Here Comes Tom" WILL become a meme if I have to spam every forum on the internet. Can't wait for it to get back to the slice of life stuff.
-It just seems really stupid to me that they planned on Luna being a one off character. She's one of two alicorns in existance, Celestia's sister, and one of Equestria's rulers. Did they honestly believe people wouldn't want to see her again? Even if they didn't expect her to become popular, it makes no sense that she'd never show up again. I'm not a big Luna fan (Trollestia For Life), but i'm dissapointed with how she's been handled. I'd rather she get as many side apperances as Celestia than get a dedicated episode and never appear again.
"Congratulations! You're the new Rainbow Dash!"
ReplyDeletenew meme, anyone? :P
Two things:
ReplyDeleteEveryone's making the obvious Star Wars and Stare Trek comparisons. But consider, the mane 6 defeated a Chaos god at the behest of the God Empress of Pony-kind... well God-Princess anyway. Friendship _is_ 40K.
Discord wasn't actually carrying the idiot ball. His plan made perfect sense. Distract the ponies in the maze and use the time to turn them, then let them have the Elements, knowing that they wouldn't be able to use them, and that that was the only thing that could break Twilight.
That meant in the final confrontation he was over-confident and clearly bored of them. He'd broken them, his plan had worked perfectly, they would never be able to activate the Elements... yawn move on. That's why he didn't notice the discrepancies until it was too late, and by then they'd activated the elements of harmoy, and by then it was too late for him to affect them.
A very Awesome episode and an excellant start for Season 2.
ReplyDeleteMy only complaint was that it seemed to fall flat near the end(I got the Star Wars ref) it just lacked the "Umph" I was expecting. Of course it could have also been the fact that I only had 4 hours of sleep and wasn't at my viewing best, so I may get back to it later.
Though I'm sad to see Discord go, it does leave itself open for him to return(in say a Return/Revenge of Discord movie/special). De Lancie did say on his twitter that if people wanted to see him reprise his role, they'd have to talk to Hasbro about it.
And I totally agree about them having him sing.
Overall a wonderfull eps. with plenty of jokes(Poor Spike the least Celestia could have done was just send them all in one go like he did in Griffin the Brush Off.), adventure and most importantly friendship/chaos.
Why does everybody insist that the episodes were rushed? I take it they mean that the *plot* was rushed since the two episodes themselves had production values every bit as high as the episodes from last season. Yes, this latest episode could have done with much more fleshing out, but where was that going to fit in the available 22 minutes? I'm just trying to look at it realistically.
ReplyDeleteAlso, people are really slamming the show for breaking physics during the balloon chase (a few pages back at least)? Um, since when has this show ever adhered to the laws of physics in any more than a superficial way. It's a friggin cartoon. I bet if we take fine measurements on every movement in the series we'll discover that important things like gravity vary on a scene to scene basis. I'm not losing sleep over it.
In short, I fear that this becoming a fandom of super critical ponies who will howl for blood whenever a new episode doesn't deliver perfection. I'm not saying we shouldn't discuss things we did and didn't like, but some people here are taking things way too seriously.
*heavy panting* /rant that nobody will read
Chaos everywhere, Chocolate rain, Flutterbitch, Star wars reference, Dog Mac, Rarity being goddamned Rarity, delicious animation, beautiful bg music. This is why I love this show.
ReplyDelete@Dire Birdbrain
ReplyDeleteI read it. I agreed with it. :)
@Chidadow
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't the spell that was important it was the fact that Twilight was reminding her friends of all they'd been through. Until the moment she has her epiphany with Spike and her letters, she was just assuming that they were all friends because they'd always been friends not because they earned it through ups and downs. she says as much at the end in the wrap up. It's not always easy.
Damn. Never cross a pony, man. I can't believe they turned him back to stone. I thought we were in for some touchy feely redemption like we got with Luna. Nope... equestrian vengeance.
ReplyDeleteOh man, that was AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteLove that Twilight totally lost patience with them, instead of being emo about it. She's a pretty no-nonsense character, and it makes sense that she'd be all "Let's just get through this if you guys are going to be dicks about it. And here's your stupid rock."
Could have easily had another ten minutes of the evil versions of the mane 6 bickering, but the writers covered a pretty ridiculous amount of ground in 44 minutes. Loved the chaos design of Ponyville too.
So many great lines, and the ensemble stuff at the end when they were trying to catch Rainbow Dash was delicious, but today, for the first time (for me), Twilight Sparkle is best pony.
tl;dr - it was so awesome it cured my hangover.
@XxMlgCptMTxX
ReplyDeleteI'm new to the community and you can call me a big fan too. I'm an older gentleman who is an avid animation fan. I just wanted to thank the producers for such a wonderful show and to simply say that Discord is one of the most endearing " villains " I've ever seen. Would like to see more of his mischief in the future.
I loved these episodes. In my opinion, they make a far better season finale than "The Best Night Ever" (which is still among my favorite episodes) did.
ReplyDeleteHere's thinking that this episode will be a fountain of memes between Evil!Shy, Rarity x Tom, NewRainbowDash (which was an excuse to raise the price of Rainbow Dash when they brought her back as Classic Rainbow Dash), etc.
Also, who was everybody's favorite Evil!Pony? Behind FlutterB****, mine is Greedity. MINE!
Wouldn't it be awesome if they took "tom" and made it into six small statues of each of the mane 6 as a remembrance of this event? Take something big and nasty and turned it into a sweet reminder of friendship and beauty. And Greedity was freakin' cool, but Rarity after turning back was fantastic, too. "never speak of this again"
ReplyDeleteHey, where are the BitTorrent downloads?
ReplyDeleteI have very poor experience with trying to download with a web browser, and usually end up having to restart the download repeatedly before I finally get the file.
Watched it (several times), loved it (more each time). I loved how the friendship reports are used to bring the season full circle. It is their friendship that gives them strength and they needed to be reminded of that. THe animation was great through out and there were many funny jokes that I'm sure will become instant memes. Loved the Star Wars reference at the end and how it was done. Just like all the references in the show it was done subtle enough that if you get it you get it, if you don't it takes nothing away from your enjoyment of the episode. I can wait for the rest of season 2.
ReplyDeleteOh and I just realized that we had a Star Trek and a Star Wars reference in the same episode!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if ponyarchive will upload the 1080p version as .mkv?
ReplyDeletedouble rainbow! @20:13
ReplyDelete:)
@mycutiemarkisagun
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm the first one to admit that I didn't see De Lancie's Twitter. But would it be good if Discord returned? They probably wouldn't let him wreak as much havoc as he did in the two-parter (besides, who would want to see the same thing over again?), and seeing him demoted to some mini-boss... I just can't think of a satisfying way for him to show up again.
Woah I just caught an animation error. Not sure if anyone pointed it out yet.
ReplyDeleteLook at 10:27 on the video above (while Pinkie is saying "Any of you! All of you!")
Fluttershy's tail is missing.
that karate mareity scene OMG my jaw dropped when she crane kicked Applejack XD
ReplyDeleteand yes she hit a manticore in s1 but your an idiot if you can't see why that scene was so awesome XD (reply to some meh boring person from the first room during stream)
Poor Spike almost died lol Twilight was so cute in this episode <3 she has the nicest breakdowns. And Tom? god... there's probably going to be a 6 way split ship with Tom now.
Can't wait to see how the actual season 2 episodes turn out now that technically we got our s2 ender!
The 1080p version currently uploaded looks extremely poor quality, much worse than the one last week. The encoding done on it was likely botched, as a 1080p 22m video should not be 457mb.
ReplyDeleteI'll stick with the 720p version for now. Hopefully another 1080p version is uploaded in the future.
Something just occurred to me, and my apologies if this has been mentioned here before.
ReplyDeleteDiscord was able to escape because the Princesses were no longer attuned to the Elements of Harmony, right? So, it follows that Discord will be able to escape again as soon as the Elements are no longer attuned to the mane 6, as they were the ones who sealed him this time. And the mane 6, unlike the Princesses, are not immortal god-ponies, so it's really only a matter of time before Discord escapes again.
I'm hoping to see a 1080p mkv uploaded sometime, the quality of the mp4 is not very good compared to the mkv of the first episode
ReplyDelete@Roxor
ReplyDeleteThere are torrents for the episodes on Pony Archive:
http://ponyarchive.org/seasons/s2.php
Instant win
ReplyDeleteThat explains the grey Rainbow Dash...
ReplyDeleteThat was so...so...AWESOME!!
ReplyDeleteI'm at a lack of words for how good these two pilot/season 1-endings was!!
They captured the essence of Friendship is Magic PERFECTLY!! As always an amazing mix of humour, adventure, love and just pure awesomeness!
And I nearly spit my tea on the screen at Dat Starwars Ending.
I wonder what plot they will use for the season setting? like how season one had the gala to set up early on and at the end (they attended the gala), I mean, It was a ball first season, what super hype up adventure comes for equestria this time? (I doubt they will be more respected now that they saved the world... twice, You know people get the medal of honor and stuff like that but I guess ponies don't work that way?)
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed that people still think that these two episodes were supposed to be the season finale of season 1. Lauren Faust herself even said that this is NOT true at all. GGG was always supposed to be the finale, and it was.
ReplyDeletePeople are confusing the fact that they continued onward to these next 2 episodes, after the first 26, only to keep the hired talent on hand, and keep people busy.
This 2-parter may have been made in the same time frame of season 1, but it was always intended for season 2! Low and behold, season 2, episodes 1 and 2!
Rant over.
Someone used the youtube rip as a base for making the 1080p MKV currently on Pony Archive. Kind of silly. Just making it an MKV will not make it look better, as the encoding that youtube does affected the quality already. The MP4 was 457mb and literally looked exactly the same as this 700mb MKV.
ReplyDeleteSilly people... wait for someone who has the original to upload the true 1080p file.
I hope someone lets us know when the full quality mkv is uploaded, the current one in ponyarchive looks really bad
ReplyDeleteYou know... the color corrected video above is THE BEST VIDEO. Don't forget to like and fav the video.
ReplyDeleteIt is a clean recoding, with the FULL END CREDITS. No hub, no adverts, no popups at the bottom of the screen. It's 100% clean. The colors pop beautifully, and...
Did I mention full end credits!
Watch this!
DO IT!!!
@Mike
ReplyDeleteOut of 782 comments, yours was the first to mention that.
I'm disappointed.
Poor Granny Smith. She used to be a star tapdancer under the Chocolate Reign of Discord, but under the Tyrant Celestia she's back to her saggy old hip.
ReplyDeleteSilly AppleJack.
ReplyDeletegah, when will there be a crisp n clear 1080p like with part 1? the current one on ponyarchive for ep2 is fuzzy and somewhat blurred :/
ReplyDeleteThe series has included several cultural references and homages, but they've usually been quite subtle until now. With the Star Wars closing scene, they're not just evoking SW, but outright mimicking it. While it was fun to see, I hope it does not indicate a continuing trend. It's better when they're subtle about it.
ReplyDelete@Timey Wimey
ReplyDeleteOverreaction much?
At least they're not going Animaniacs or family guy on us.
ReplyDelete@Illidan
ReplyDeletePretty much this
When fluttershy says "good boy angel mummy loves you" she shoots angel her sexy look. Anyone seeing an "evil Fluttershy" and "normal fluttershy" shipping couple?
ReplyDeleteI dun no, second episode, it was kind of weak, i mean its ending, a bit too much drama and pokimon in it, compared to how they defeated the dragon, it wasnt as nice.
ReplyDeleteAfter finally seeing this, I'm firmly convinced that Discord is based on Q.
ReplyDeleteUnlike Q, however, Discord doesn't seem to be quite as observant. You'd think he would have noticed the grey having worn off the main six. Clearly someone tossed him an Idiot Ball at that point.
Guys, have you noticed? The keepers of the Grove of Truth, puppets as they were, really did tell the truth. Friendship among the mane 6 really did break, and in the place that was shown nonetheless. Self-fulfilled prophecy and all that, maybe, but still, it was a master plan indeed.
ReplyDeleteDiscord really was an evil mastermind. Too bad its needed him to be so unobservant.
@ Marlowe he did say make it quick
ReplyDeleteStill no Luna appearances! This makes me a sad pony.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who found the first episode somewhat disappointing, this episode actually blew me away. I personally am not overly fond of the whole "epic adventure" stuff they throw in there, and I found Serious Celestia to simply be tiring and tedious.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the way they weaved everything together here was simply a stroke of genius. I particularly liked Twilight's "necklace, necklace, necklace, necklace, crown thing", like they were pieces of crap they just had to carry around. Perfect! And, of course, the letters. I was SOOO glad they skipped over the whole "flash back" thing for all the others. That would have gotten really old really fast.
I also liked the way they made the effects at the end unique, and not simply a re-hash of the effects that got cast on Luna. I could have done without the "radiating shapes" thing from each of the necklaces, but the way they shot out around him was cool, and the splitting double-rainbow was gasp-worthy.
All the characters kind of went to extremes here. Fluttershy was a bit overdone, as was Twilight. Depicting Fluttershy being as fast as Rainbow Dash kind of undermines our rainbow friend's skills a bit. Also, Twilight flying around and forming the pink bubble was really cool and everything, but I don't remember her ever demonstrating that ridiculous level of skill!
As for Discord being turned back to stone...well...nobody exactly said it was possible to completely annihilate him. Nightmare Moon wasn't exactly destroyed either, so I really wasn't surprised. I guess it just goes back to the weakness of the first episode, which depicted his awakening as being so easy, a small group of fillies could manage it.
Overall, it's a fantastic conclusion, and it was worth suffering through (okay, if wasn't THAT bad) the first episode in order to get to this one. The background chaos, while entertaining, got a bit tired after a while, which the first episode didn't have to worry about too much. The only thing I really, really, REALLY hated was the very end. The ceremony was TERRIBLE! CRINGE-WORTHY! Okay, it's a Star Wars spoof. I get that. But still! Do something with it! It's like an exact copy! Make it into an actual parody! And no, funny smiles don't count as "doing something". It just makes it awkward. At least the party at the end of Nightmare Moon was FUN! Plus, it had that nice thing at the end where Twilight asks to stay with her friends. This felt more like one of those unnecessary epilogues you have at the end of a bad fanfic. Thrown in because it "has to be there" and no other reason.
Okay, end of rant.
With all that said, BRING ON EPISODE 3 !!!
@Ganymede
ReplyDeleteFluttershy wasn't as fast as Rainbow Dash. She was as fast as Rainbow being held down by both Pinkie and Rarity. RBD may be fast, but two additional ponies will slow even her down enough.
Here's a clean rip from Hubworld link for those that get annoyed by those nasty evil watermarks.

Just watched it again at it's still awesome. The Star Wars ending was a bit too over the top with the winking and lopsided grins, but it got saved by the reveal of the new stained glass window. And this is comment #800! *looks up* A rip with no watermarks? Those watermarks are such a pain to remove when making screen caps.
