I'm going with shock. In the show, when shit happens, they just kind of lose it and stampede aimlessly. Also there you go. Hospitals, wheelchairs, and that one guy had cancer. Crossover, though? This isn’t a crossover with anything. Celestia is also not a goddess in this story. Rhyming is really hard. I’m glad it pays off, as am I also glad that Fluttershy being a fatty can be taken seriously. The guns are a griffon invention, so some reverse engineering will be necessary to make them more pony accessable. Writing the musical number was also really hard. I don’t understand why people worry when Pinkie does stuff. This isn’t that kind of story :A Glorified unicorns? Also I love blood drinking and fatties. If Kkat can have Little Pip blush and get humiliated every five pages, I can work my fetishes in too.

Chapter 10 is 13k words, 22 pages at the time of writing this. It might only be 30ish pages. I hope that’s not a disappointment to all of you.
Not at all if ch. 10 does its job and finishes up this arc. 30 pages is still a huge achievement! Some fanfics I've read take this long to write 5k word chapters. I can't wait for chapter 10 to come out. The sooner the better. :D

Althou, so far they've been efficient to stampede away from whatever came xP The wheelchairs also just seemed to be for old ponies or recovery though, and I missed the one with cancer tbh, if it now was that. And honestly, I'm not 100 % sure what the "crossover" term implies, I just guessed it was one due to the vampirism themes. But yeah, I can see rhyming would be hard, one sentence off and it'd ruin the whole thing, or require revision. Yeah, "Buttershy" (as I think that is the fanon term for a fat Flutters) is an interesting touch as said, and I think most can take her seriously at least. And yeah, I know the are griffin tools, it just makes little sense in my head that they would craft them, go into Equestria to sell them, and not make them pony accessible? It's a tad bit like trying to sell gloves (for griffins) to ponies. I can see the whole "if they want it, they solve it" working quite well though. I can imagine it was rather hard to get the singing right and such.

It's Pinkie Pie, it's about ALWAYS her that goes batshit crazy, thanks to stories like Cupcakes she's sadly been permanently marked as prone to do weird shit, that, and the fact she almost never, ever get into trouble herself. Plus, in this series alone, there's been (excluding her banzi from the roof with knives) mind rape, (more or less) mutilation, several deaths, corruption, blood drinking fetish severely powerful dark magic. (although, the "Celestia is not a goddess" makes me ponder, since if now Luna managed to have magic that powerful, and Celestia doesn't have an even close counterpart, I really wonder where she got that power from... yeah, I know, there's always some "dark lord" willing to give to those that desire it... for a price xD) lynching, conning/thievery, kidnapping and child abuse. And that's kinda accurate or correct ones I can remember from the top of my head. I could quite sure several people was ready for Pinkie doing anything from between murder to abduction to rape tbh, it's people on the internet after all xP
As for the unicorn part, it felt a bit "We don't have any unicorns, we're rather defenceless." sorta leaning towards the "EP's suck" that the Fallout Equestria leans towards. Heck, in my test module people went all "only 10 enemies? That's fine we- holy shit they got a unicorn! take it down!". I know EP's can be rather badass, but there's always that "never compared to a unicorn". Few stories find that good balance between the three (since pegasi is obviously included as well, but they also beat EP's since they can fly, make tornadoes and whatnot.) usually, they land in either the "we suck compared to the others." or the "rar, hulk smash." category. Personally think you're doing kinda in the middle of it. (since I doubt any other than perhaps RD or Pinkie would have survived being dismembered.) Since if I recall, only earth ponies died during the hydra attack, was long ago I read it though but. And I can kinda give you that one when it comes to fetishes, personally just reminded of hospitals and needles at the mention of it though heh ^^'
Dammit stonershy! That wasn't an ending, that was a transition! Now with a single line you upped he suspense I am feeling for story two by an exponential level! Overall, and epic ending to an epic story. I give it 1x10^15 stars!

Has anypony made the obvious comparison to the new enemy changelings yet? If not... this story has pretty much called a new MLP enemy by like 8 months. We have a creature that seems to feed on ponies somehow, and can change it's appearance to get you to invite you in. It seems to be trying to gain the affection of Fluttershy, for whatever reason (I do have some chapters to catch up on. Last one I recal reading, has her immitating Rarity to gain Spike's trust.) It seems to have the capacity to influence some ponies (Like with Applebloom). We also have the talk of war in the description. I do need to play catch up.
ReplyDeleteGranted, yours is inspired by a far more traditional style of vampire, but in a sense, the true changelings are also inspired by vampirism. I don't think any of us seriously believed Studio B or Hasbro would have the balls to do as serious a vampirism themed episode as they did.
Congratulations, you wrote the closest thing to a changeling, before season 2 had even BEGUN! Discord, was still not even known then, i think, and certainly not in his true draconequiis form.

ReplyDeleteOkay, read the latest chapter. Rather well written/described as usual. Have to say it felt slightly as a bit of a "fanwank" (or whatever it's called... probably something else.) with the whole show of powers between the two. And have to say I really wonder how they managed to get rid of them, seeing how it seemed to have been quite allot of them. Also, still wondering how the hay Luna managed to create a something stronger than both her and Celestia, and something that was also able to mass produce so rapidly. Granted, it was a doomed sub-race if they got greedy or reckless, like anything that requires living things to survive... hum, have to wonder if their organs still work as normal. Trailing off again heh.

And for some reason I can't help but wonder where exactly the bowl blood comes from... despite several plausible options, and again, salt to it seemed odd to have xP Anyhow, have to say I really liked Pinkie's portrayal in the matter. It kinda reminded me of a potential bittersweet fic with a possible happy ending, but that's going off topic.(and again, the rhyming is great) Giggled a bit at the "non-con blood transfusion" part. Have to say I found the cloud part to be stupid, Fluttershy can already do that, she's a pegasus. It wouldn't drain any blood for her. It'd be a bit like saying a transformed unicorn would have to burn blood to use telekinesis, or a EP to buck apples... unless they can generate clouds out of thin air, then I could see that.
And again, like the changelings, they wouldn't last long, just like locust, except there's no reproduction. With eternal night, no plants, all other ponies would die, leaving the thingamajigs to starve. But that's how allot, ALLOT of monsters are designed. Either by arrogance or foolishness as said, so nothing I aim at this fic alone. Just a recurring "le-sigh" of mine. Anyhow, liked most of the discussion and interaction. Story flows nicely. And have to say the ending was a bit fuzzy, but I tend to space out a bit at times, so I blame that xP Overall, still rather enjoyable.
Also, people going "ending thing" should pay attention to the whole "incomplete" rating. That usually helps.
Le damn, should have updated before posting. Anyhow, yeah, it they currently fall under the "you want it? you deal with it." category.
ReplyDeleteAnd *gasp* you're expecting all your readers to have common sense and the capability to think? xD (althou, I have to admit the pony community has been a lot, A LOT better with this than many others I've seen). Althou, I can partially also blame the semi-"pornographic" blood drinking scene. But mostly just my for expecting people to act like many times before. Heck, even I can get a big jaded at times :P
EP is short for Earth Pony. Like UP and PP. Mostly common within the RPG community of the fandom for easy reference.
As for the changelings. Have to say a changeling/thingamajig relation would have been interesting. They'd (or could) just use each other for sustenance. Although, seeing how often they had to drink blood, it might not work out as balanced.

ReplyDeleteI thought that as well at first, but it seemed to imply either an alternate method (e.g. telekenisis) or mass control. After all, there's no point in making it cloudy to cover up the sun if it requires you to fly up near the sun in the first place.
Still, it'll likely be expanded upon at a later point (though an extra half a sentence of explanation could've cleared it up).

I wasn't really going for fan service with their duel. Mahara and Zecora had every intention to fight to the death, so they were going all out on each other. Also, the part where the sun and Celestia make them extremely vulnerable kind of makes for a big weakness, especailly once you manage to counter their ability to generate cloud cover.
Let's focus on that really quick. The weather manipulation ability is not something as simple as being able to move clouds around. This is more along the lines of making clouds from nothing by pulling moisture out of the air and forcing it to condense. It's very magic intensive, even for a pegasus, since it's essentially doing something that is normally done by machine in Cloudsdale.
The ending was fuzzy?
As for changelings, I think I'll keep them out of blood, unless I can think of a reason to include them that isn't half assed.

And I know I tend to sound like I'm complaining or whatnot, but as said, it's usually not the case, and I'm trailing off again.
And in that case it makes more sense. Even though pegasi kinda seem to be making everything to be put in the machine, and was shown creating the snowflakes. I guess it'd make more sense in my head if it'd be "easier" for a pegasus thingamajig "vampire" to make a cloud cover than a unicorn or a earth pony. (So in terms of "blood drain" it'd be, going from lowest to highest 1: PP. 2: UP 3: EP.) since unicorn magic has been pointed out to be very narrow in what they can do with it.
And yeah, fuzzy. I blame that on reading it to late though. I tend to "zone out" when reading late at times,kinda forgetting what I'm doing and stuff, so don't mind that to much heh.
As for changelings, I think they shouldn't be mentioned. They were a kinda interesting addition, but blood was before them, and you haven't mentioned everything else from the show, so there's no need to drag them in. And as said, it's already an alternate universe. (I think, quite sure I asked about this before ^^' But as said before in such case: I see anything including non-canon or whatnot as "alternate universe". Pretty much just more simple "slice of life" can hide as same universe... and some OC's. But yeah, it'll be interesting to see how things will turn out. Got a few different mental scenarios in my head. And I'm hoping some of them won't be the case heh.
